The Ghost Movie Review: అక్కినేని నాగార్జునకు అక్టోబర్ 5 ఓ స్పెషల్ డే! ఆయన కెరీర్ లోనే ఫస్ట్ బ్లాక్ బస్టర్ మూవీ ‘శివ’ రిలీజ్ డేట్ అది. ఆ తర్వాత మళ్ళీ ఇంతకాలానికి అదే రోజున ‘ది ఘోస్ట్’ మూవీ వస్తోంది. నాగార్జున, ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు ఫస్ట్ కాంబినేషన్ లో సునీల్ నారంగ్, పుస్కూర్ రామ్ మోహన్ రావు, శరత్ మారర్ ఈ మూవీని ప్రొడ్యూస్ చేశారు. ఈ యేడాది ఇప్పటికే ‘బంగార్రాజు, బ్రహ్మాస్త్రం’ చిత్రాలతో జనం ముందుకు వచ్చిన నాగార్జున ‘ది ఘోస్ట్’తో ఎలా ఆకట్టుకున్నారో చూద్దాం.

గత యేడాది వచ్చిన ‘వైల్డ్ డాగ్’ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ లో నాగార్జున ఎన్.ఐ.ఎ. ఆఫీసర్ గా నటించాడు. ఆ సినిమా కమర్షియల్ సక్సెస్ సాధించకపోయినా.. ఈ వయసులోనూ నాగార్జున ఫుల్ ఫిట్ గా ఉన్నారనేది ఆ సినిమా నిరూపించింది. ఇక ఈ యేడాది ప్రారంభంలోనే ‘బంగార్రాజు’గా ఫుల్ రొమాంటిక్ పాత్రను చేసి మాస్ ఆడియెన్స్ ను మెప్పించారు. ‘బ్రహ్మాస్త్రం’లో ఆయన పోషించింది గెస్ట్ రోల్ కావడంతో అక్కినేని అభిమానులు ఒక్కింత నిరాశకు గురయ్యారు. ఆ లోటును భర్తీ చేస్తూ దసరా కానుకగా ‘ది ఘోస్ట్’ మూవీ వచ్చేసింది.

ఇంటర్ పోల్ ఆఫీసర్స్ విక్రమ్ (నాగార్జున), ప్రియ (సోనాల్ చౌహాన్) మధ్య మంచి అండర్ స్టాండింగ్ ఉంటుంది. ఈస్ట్ అరేబియాలో ఓ ఆపరేషన్ ను వీళ్ళిద్దరూ సక్సెస్ చేస్తారు. లివ్ ఇన్ రిలేషన్ లో ఉండే వీరిద్దరూ చేపట్టిన మరో ఆపరేషన్ మాత్రం ఫెయిల్ అవుతుంది. ఇండియన్ ఫ్యామిలీకి చెందిన ఓ పిల్లాడిని ఉగ్రవాదులు దారుణంగా చంపేస్తారు. అప్పటికే మానసికంగా డిస్ట్రబ్ అయి ఉన్న విక్రమ్ ఉద్యోగానికి రాజీనామా చేస్తాడు. అతను తన మాట వినడం లేదనే కోపంతో ప్రియా ముంబైకు వచ్చి ఎన్.సి.బి.లో చేరుతుంది. ఇలా ఐదేళ్ళు గడిచిపోతాయి. ఆ తర్వాత ఓ రోజు ఇండియా నుండి విక్రమ్ కు అను (గుల్ పనాగ్) నుండి ఫోన్ వస్తుంది. తన లైఫ్ రిస్క్ లో ఉందని, తన కూతుర్ని చంపేస్తామని కొందరు బెదిరిస్తున్నారని విక్రమ్ కు చెప్పి వాపోతుంది. దాంతో హుటాహుటిన విక్రమ్ ఊటీలో లాండ్ అవుతాడు. అనుకు అండగా నిలబడటంతో పాటు ఆమె కూతురి సెక్యూరిటీ బాధ్యతలను భుజానికెత్తుకుంటాడు. అసలు విక్రమ్ కు అను కు ఉన్న సంబంధం ఏమిటీ? ఆమె కోసం అతను తన లైఫ్ ను ఎందుకు రిస్క్ లో పెట్టుకున్నాడు? కార్పొరేట్ సంస్థలు అండర్ వరల్డ్ తో చేతులు కలిపితే జరిగే పర్యవసానం ఏమిటీ? ఐదేళ్ళ పాటు విక్రమ్ కు దూరంగా ఉన్న ప్రియా మళ్ళీ అతని చెంతకు ఎలా చేరింది? విక్రమ్ ను చూడగానే ఏదో ఘోస్ట్ ను చూసినట్టుగా అరి వర్గాలు ఎందుకు భయపడ్డాయి? వీటన్నింటికీ సమాధానమే ఈ సినిమా!

ముందు చెప్పినట్టు నాగార్జునకు ఇలాంటి పాత్రలు కొట్టిన పిండే. ఆ మధ్య రామ్ గోపాల్ వర్మ డైరెక్ట్ చేసిన ‘ఆఫీసర్’తో పాటు తాజాగా ‘వైల్డ్ డాగ్’లోనూ నటించాడు. అయితే ఆ రెండు సినిమాల కంటే కూడా ఇది కాస్తంత భిన్నమైంది. ఇందులో కేవలం యాక్షన్ కే ప్రాధాన్యం ఇవ్వకుండా కొద్దిగా రొమాన్స్ ను, ఇంకొద్దిగా ఫ్యామిలీ సెంటిమెంట్ ను డైరెక్టర్ ప్రవీణ్‌ సత్తారు మిక్స్ చేశాడు. అండర్ వరల్డ్ నేపథ్యాన్ని మాత్రమే తీసుకుని ఉంటే ఇది రొటీన్ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ అయిపోయి ఉండేది. అయితే కార్పొరేట్ క్రైమ్ ను దానికి యాడ్ చేయడం బాగుంది. నిజానికి ఈ రెండు అంశాలను ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు తన గత రెండు ప్రాజెక్ట్స్ లో విడివిడిగా టచ్ చేశాడు. ఐదేళ్ళ క్రితం ‘గరుడవేగ’ను ఎన్.ఐ.ఎ. నేపథ్యంలో తెరకెక్కించిన ప్రవీణ్ లాస్ట్ ఇయర్ కార్పొరేట్ క్రైమ్ నేపథ్యంలోనే ‘లెవన్త్ అవర్’ వెబ్ సీరిస్ తీశాడు. సో.. ఈ రెండింటినీ మిక్స్ చేసి ఈ ప్రాజెక్ట్ విషయంలో జస్ట్ కేక్ వాక్ చేశాడంతే. అయితే నాగార్జున బాడీ లాంగ్వేజ్ ను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ ను, అక్కినేని అభిమానులను నిరుత్సాహానికి గురి చేయకుండా రొమాంటిక్ సాంగ్ కు ప్రాధాన్యమిచ్చాడు. దాంతో ఇటు ఫ్యాన్స్, అటు మాస్ ఈ సినిమా విషయంలో ఫుల్ హ్యాపీ ఫీలవుతారు. అలానే ఫ్యామిలీ ఆడియెన్స్ ను ఆకట్టుకునేలా సెంటిమెంట్ సీన్స్ ను డిజైన్ చేశాడు. అవీ బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. ఇక క్లయిమాక్స్ లో ఇచ్చిన ట్విస్ట్ అందరినీ సంతోష పరుస్తుంది.

విక్రమ్ క్యారెక్టర్ లో నాగార్జున చక్కగా సెట్ అయ్యాడు. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ లోనూ స్టైలిష్ గా కనిపించాడు. విశేషం ఏమంటే, ఇంతకాలం గ్లామర్ డాల్ ఇమేజ్ ని క్యారీ చేస్తున్న సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ ఇందులో దానితో పాటు యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ లోనూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. కార్పొరేట్ సంస్థ అధినేత్రిగా గుల్ పనాగ్, ఆమె కూతురుగా అనిఖా సురేంద్రన్ చక్కగా నటించారు. విలన్ మనీశ్ చౌదరి స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్ బాగుంది. ఇతర ప్రధాన తారాగణంలో జయప్రకాశ్‌, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్, రవివర్మ మాత్రమే సుపరిచితులు, మిగిలిన వారు తెలుగు తెరకు కొత్త!! భరత్, సౌరభ్ అందించిన రొమాంటిక్ సాంగ్ ట్యూన్ బాగుంది. అలానే మార్క్ కె రాబిన్ నేపథ్య సంగీతం, ముఖేష్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ ఆకట్టుకునేలా ఉన్నాయి. దినేశ్ సుబ్బరాయన్, కేచ్ డైరెక్ట్ చేసిన యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. బట్.. ఎడిటింగ్ విషయంలో ఇంకాస్తంత కేర్ తీసుకుని ఉండాల్సింది. సినిమా అయిపోయిందని భావిస్తున్న తరుణంలో విక్రమ్ భారీ తుపాకీ తీసుకుని విధ్వంసం సృష్టించిన సన్నివేశాలకు ఇటీవల వచ్చిన కమల్ హాసన్ ‘విక్రమ్’ ప్రేరణేమో అనిపిస్తుంది. విక్రమ్ ఏమిటనేది అప్పటికే ప్రేక్షకులకు తెలుసు కాబట్టి క్లయిమాక్స్ లో మరీ అంత అరాచకం అక్కర్లేదు.

(The Ghost Review)  కానీ, ఆ త‌ర్వాతే మ‌ళ్లీ సినిమా గాడి త‌ప్పుతుంది. అక్క‌డ‌క్క‌డా మ‌లుపులున్నా సుదీర్ఘంగా, స‌హ‌జ‌త్వం లేకుండా  సాగే పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు  ఏ ర‌కంగానూ మెప్పించ‌వు.  మాఫియా సామ్రాజ్యాన్ని, కార్పొరేట్ కుటుంబాల్లోని సంఘ‌ట‌న‌ల్ని  స్టైలిష్‌గా, స‌హ‌జంగా చూపించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు. ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాలు ప‌ర్వాలేద‌నిపిస్తాయి. పెద్ద గ‌న్‌తో హంగామా  ఈమ‌ధ్య కొన్ని సినిమాల్ని గుర్తు చేస్తుంది.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: నాగార్జున విక్ర‌మ్‌గా మెరిశాడు. ఆయ‌న స్టైలిష్‌గా క‌నిపించిన తీరు, పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు  అభిమానుల్ని అల‌రిస్తాయి.   సోనాల్ చౌహాన్  అంద‌మైన ఇంట‌ర్‌పోల్ ఆఫీస‌ర్‌గా క‌నిపించింది. కథానాయ‌కుడితోపాటే క‌నిపిస్తూ  పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలతోనూ మెప్పించింది.  మ‌నీశ్ చౌద‌రి ప్ర‌తినాయ‌కుడిగా క‌నిపిస్తారు.  గుల్‌ప‌నాగ్‌, అనైఖా సురేంద్ర‌న్ త‌ల్లీకూతుళ్లుగా పాత్ర‌ల ప‌రిధి మేర‌కు న‌టించారు. పెద్దింట్లో పెరిగి, క్ర‌మ‌శిక్ష‌ణ కొర‌వ‌డిన అమ్మాయిగా  అనైఖా చేసిన స‌న్నివేశాలు సినిమాకి కీల‌కం.(The Ghost Review)   జ‌య‌ప్ర‌కాశ్‌, ర‌విప్ర‌కాశ్‌, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యంగార్ మిన‌హా మిగిలిన‌వాళ్లు దాదాపుగా తెలుగు తెర‌కు కొత్తే. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది. ముఖేష్ కెమెరా ప‌నిత‌నం, మార్క్ కె.రాబిన్ నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం సినిమాకి ప్ర‌ధాన‌బ‌లం. రొమాంటిక్ పాట, పార్టీ పాట చిత్ర‌ణ బాగుంది. నిర్మాణం ఉన్న‌తంగా ఉంది.  ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ప్ర‌వీణ్ స‌త్తారు  ఎంచుకున్న నేప‌థ్యం బాగున్నా క‌థ‌, క‌థ‌నాల్ని మ‌లిచిన తీరు మెప్పించ‌దు.

సంక్రాంతికి బంగార్రాజుతో హిట్ కొట్టిన నాగార్జున.. దసరాకు వచ్చి ఘోస్ట్‌తో బాక్సాఫీస్ దగ్గర మాయ చేయాలనుకుంటున్నారు. ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు తెరకెక్కించిన ఈ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్‌టైనర్ అక్టోబర్ 5న విడుదలైంది. మరి ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉంది..? గాడ్ ఫాదర్‌ను తట్టుకుని నాగ్ సినిమా హిట్ కొడుతుందా..?

విక్రమ్ (నాగార్జున) ఒక ఇంటర్‌పోల్ ఆఫీసర్. అండర్ వరల్డ్ అంటేనే మండి పడుతుంటాడు. అలాగే ఆయనకు కోపం కూడా బాగా ఎక్కువగా ఉంటుంది. ఓ ఆపరేషన్‌లో భాగంగా చిన్న పిల్లాడు చనిపోవడంతో.. మాఫియాను అంతం చేయడానికి బయల్దేరతాడు. తన తోటి ఇంటర్‌పోల్ ఆఫీసర్ ప్రియ(సోనాల్ చౌహాన్)తో రిలేషన్ షిప్‌లో ఉంటాడు విక్రమ్. పిల్లాడి మరణం తర్వాత ఇంటర్‌పోల్ జాబ్‌కు రిజైన్ చేసి దూరంగా ఉంటాడు. అలాంటి సమయంలో దాదాపు 5 సంవత్సరాల తర్వాత తన అక్క అను (గుల్ పనాగ్) నుంచి కాల్ వస్తుంది. తనకు, తన కూతురు అదితి (అనిఖా సురేంద్రన్)కి ప్రాణ హాని ఉందని చెప్పడంతో విక్రమ్ అక్కడే ఉండిపోతాడు. ఆ తర్వాత ఏం జరిగింది..? వాళ్లను చంపాలనుకుంటున్నది ఎవరు..? వాళ్లను విక్రమ్ ఎలా కాపాడాడు అనేది మిగిలిన కథ..

ది ఘోస్ట్ అని టైటిల్ చూసినపుడే ఇది పూర్తిగా యాక్షన్ సినిమా అని అర్థమైపోతుంది. దర్శకుడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు కూడా దీనికే స్టిక్ అయి ఉన్నాడు. ఎక్కడా డీవియేట్ కాకుండా తాను చెప్పాలనుకున్న కథను యాక్షన్ కోణంలోనే చెప్పాడు. మొదటి సన్నివేశం నుంచే హై వోల్టేజ్ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్‌టైనర్‌గానే మొదలు పెట్టాడు. గరుడవేగలో అదిరిపోయే యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలు తీసిన ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు ఇందులోనూ అదరగొట్టాడు. ముఖ్యంగా సినిమా ఎలా ఉందనే విషయం పక్కనబెడితే యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ మేకింగ్ విషయంలో ప్రవీణ్ రేంజ్ అర్థమవుతుంది. కానీ కథ విషయంలోనూ ఇదే పట్టు ఉండుంటే ఘోస్ట్ రేంజ్ మారిపోయేది. చాలా సింపుల్ కథను అంతకంటే సింపుల్ స్క్రీన్ ప్లేతో తెరకెక్కించాడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు. అదే ఘోస్ట్‌కు మైనస్ అయింది. ఫస్టాఫ్ వరకు సినిమా అంతా సాదా సీదాగానే సాగుతుంది. అనుతో పాటు ఆమె కూతురును చంపాలనుకోవడం.. వాళ్లను విక్రమ్ కాపాడాలని చూడటం.. ఇంటర్వెల్ ట్విస్టుతో ఫస్టాఫ్ ముగుస్తుంది. సెకండాఫ్‌లో అసలు కథ మొదలవుతుంది. అక్కడ కూడా ఎక్కువగా ఎమోషన్స్ కంటే యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలపైనే ఆధారపడ్డాడు దర్శకుడు. దానికితోడు సినిమాటిక్ లిబర్టీ ఎక్కువగా తీసుకున్నట్లు అనిపిస్తుంది. హీరోను చంపే అవకాశం విలన్స్‌కు ఎన్నోసార్లు వస్తుంది కానీ వాళ్లు మాత్రం హీరో వచ్చి చంపేంత వరకు వెయిట్ చేస్తుంటారు. ఎంత కాదన్నా అది లాజిక్‌కు అందదు. అలాంటి సీన్స్ సినిమాలో చాలానే ఉన్నాయి. దానికితోడు గరుడవేగలో ఫ్యామిలీ సీన్లు బాగానే హ్యాండిల్ చేసిన ప్రవీణ్.. ఘోస్ట్ దగ్గరికి వచ్చేసరికి మాత్రం ఇబ్బంది పడినట్లు అర్థమవుతుంది. ఓవరాల్‌గా యాక్షన్ లవర్స్‌ను ఘోస్ట్ ఎంగేజ్ చేసే ఛాన్స్ ఉంది.

నాగార్జునకు ఈ తరహా పాత్రలు కొత్తేం కాదు. ఇప్పటికే ఎన్నో సినిమాల్లో చేసారు. ఇప్పుడు మరోసారి ఘోస్ట్‌గా అదరగొట్టాడు. పైగా ఆయన స్క్రీన్ ప్రజెన్స్ మ్యాజికల్‌గా ఉంటుంది. సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ అందాల ఆరబోతతో పాటు యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ కూడా బాగా చేసింది. మరో రెండు కీలక పాత్రల్లో గుల్ పనాగ్, అనిఖా సురేంద్రన్‌లు ఆకట్టుకున్నారు. మిగతా వాళ్లంతా ఓకే..

టెక్నికల్ టీం:

టెక్నికల్‌గా ఘోస్ట్ హై స్టాండర్డ్స్‌లో ఉంది. మార్క్ కే.రాబిన్స్, భరత్-సౌరభ్ అందించిన మ్యూజిక్, ఆర్ఆర్ బాగున్నాయి. వేగం పాట చాలా బాగుంది. విజువల్‌గానూ ఈ పాట అదిరిపోయింది. దినేష్ సుబ్బరాయన్, కిచ్చా యాక్షన్ సీన్లు సినిమాకు ప్రాణం. సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్ ముఖేష్.జి విజువల్స్ రిచ్‌గా ఉన్నాయి. ధర్మేంద్ర కాకరాల ఎడిటింగ్ జస్ట్ ఓకే అనిపిస్తుంది. దర్శకుడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు మాత్రం కథకుడిగా కంటే.. యాక్షన్ మేకింగ్‌లో మాత్రం అదరగొట్టాడు. స్క్రీన్ ప్లే పరంగా మరింత జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండుంటే ఘోస్ట్ మంచి యాక్షన్ సినిమా అయ్యుండేది.

తెలుగు సినిమా ప్రయోగశాలకు హెడ్ మాస్టర్ అయిన అక్కినేని నాగార్జున నటించిన తాజా చిత్రం “ది ఘోస్ట్”. ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు దర్శకత్వంలో తెరకెక్కిన ఈ యాక్షన్ ఎంటర్ టైనర్ దసరా సందర్భంగా నేడు విడుదలైంది. చిరంజీవి-నాగార్జునల సినిమాలు ఒకే పండుగకు విడుదలై చాలా ఏళ్లవుతోంది. మరి “గాడ్ ఫాదర్”తోపాటుగా విడుదలైన “ఘోస్ట్” ఆడియన్స్ ను ఏమేరకు అలరించగలిగిందో చూద్దాం..!!

కథ: 1984లో జరిగిన హిందూ-ముస్లిం గొడవల్లో తల్లిదండ్రులను కోల్పోయి.. తనను కాపాడిన మేజర్ చెంతన చేరి పెరుగుతాడు విక్రమ్ (నాగార్జున). మేజర్ కూతురు అనుపమ (గుల్ పనాగ్)ను తన సొంత కుటుంబంలా భావించినా.. ఆమె వేరే పెళ్లి చేసుకొని ఇంటి నుండి బయటకు వెళ్లిపోతుంది.

సరిగ్గా 20 ఏళ్ల తర్వాత అను తన తమ్ముడు విక్రమ్ ను కాంటాక్ట్ అవుతుంది. తనను, తన కూతురు అదితి (అనికా సురేంద్రన్)ను ఎవరో చంపడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నారని, ఇద్దరినీ కాపాడాలని కోరుతుంది.

ఊటీ చేరుకున్న విక్రమ్.. అనుపమ & అదితికి ఉన్న శత్రువులేవరో ఇన్వెస్టిగేట్ చేయడం మొదలెడతాడు. ఈలోపే అనుపమ & అదితిపై స్కార్పియన్ గ్యాంగ్ ఎటాక్ చేస్తారు.

అసలు స్కార్పియన్ గ్యాంగ్ ఎవరు? అనుపమను ఎందుకు ఎటాక్ చేశారు? వాళ్ళ బారి నుండి అనుపమ & అదితిని కాపాడడానికి విక్రమ్ ఏం చేశాడు? అనేది “ది ఘోస్ట్” కథ.

నటీనటుల పనితీరు: విక్రమ్ పాత్రలో 63 ఏళ్ల నాగార్జున.. 40 ఏళ్ల వ్యక్తిగా భలే ఒదిగిపోయాడు. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ లో నాగ్ స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజన్స్ భలే ఉంది. నాగార్జునకు ఈ తరహా పాత్రలు కొత్త కాదు. ఆయన క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్ కొన్ని హాలీవుడ్ సినిమాలను తలపించడమే కాక, కొత్తదనం కొదరవడింది. ఇలాంటి నాగార్జునను ఇప్పటికే చాలాసార్లు చూసేశామ్. హీరోయిన్ గా సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ అండంతోపాటు యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ తోనూ అలరించింది.

బాలీవుడ్ హీరోయిన్ గుల్ పనాగ్, బాలీవుడ్ సీరియల్ యాక్టర్స్ కొందరు విలన్లుగా పర్వాలేదనిపించుకున్నారు. రవివర్మను పూర్తిస్థాయిలో వినియోగించుకోలేకపోయారు.

సాంకేతికవర్గం పనితీరు: మార్క్ కె.రాబిన్ నేపధ్య సంగీతం బాగుంది. యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ ను బాగా ఎలివేట్ చేశాడు. అలాగే.. ముఖేష్.జి సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ వర్క్ కూడా బాగుంది. యాక్షన్ బ్లాక్స్ ను తెరకెక్కించిన విధానం మంచి కిక్ ఇచ్చింది. తెలుగులో ఈ తరహా బ్లడీ యాక్షన్ బ్లాక్స్ చూడడం చాలా అరుదు. ఆ విషయంలో దర్శకుడు కాస్త రిస్క్ చేశాడనే చెప్పాలి.

యాక్షన్ బ్లాక్స్ విషయంలో మంచి రిస్క్ తీసుకున్న ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు.. స్క్రీన్ ప్లే పరంగా మాత్రం ఎలాంటి కొత్తదనం లేకుండా చాలా సాదాసీదాగా “ది ఘోస్ట్” కథను రాసుకోవడం విస్మయానికి గురి చేసిన విషయం. నిజానికి ప్రవీణ్ మంచి సత్తా ఉన్న దర్శకుడు. సినిమా టీజర్ & ట్రైలర్ తో మంచి అంచనాలను క్రియేట్ చేయగలిగాడు. హాలీవుడ్ చిత్రాలు “మ్యాన్ ఆన్ ఫైర్, జాన్ విక్”ల నుంచి భారీ స్థాయిలో ఇన్స్పిరేషన్ తీసుకుని కూడా.. ఘోస్ట్ క్యారెక్టర్ కు సరైన ఎలివేషన్స్ ను క్రియేట్ చేయలేకపోయాడు. అలాగే.. ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్ కూడా పండలేదు. అందువల్ల ప్రేక్షకుడు కథలో ఇన్వాల్వ్ అవ్వలేక, సినిమాతో కనెక్ట్ కాలేక థియేటర్ నుండి బయటకు వెళ్ళేప్పుడు నిరాశతో, అసంతృప్తితో వెనుదిరుగుతాడు. దర్శకుడిగా బొటాబోటి మార్కులతో పాసైన ప్రవీణ్.. కథకుడిగా మాత్రం ఫెయిల్ అయ్యాడు.

విశ్లేషణ: ప్రస్తుత ప్రేక్షకులు కొత్తదనం ఆశిస్తున్నారు. అది యాక్షన్ సీన్స్ & టైటిల్ విషయంలో మాత్రమే కాదు.. క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్ & స్క్రీన్ ప్లే విషయంలో కూడా. ఈ విషయం ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు పట్టించుకోకపోవడం గమనార్హం. నిజానికి “ది ఘోస్ట్”కి మంచి యాక్షన్ సినిమాగా, మాస్ ఆడియన్స్ & యాక్షన్ మూవీ లవర్స్ ను అలరించగలిగే మంచి స్కోప్ ఉంది. అయితే.. ఎలివేషన్స్ & ఎమోషన్స్ అనుకున్నంతగా వర్కవుటవ్వకపోవడంతో, ఓ యావరేజ్ సినిమాగా మిగిలిపోయింది.

ది ఘోస్ట్ కథ ఏమిటంటే?

దుబాయ్‌లో విక్రమ్ (నాగార్జున) తన ప్రేయసి ప్రియ (సోనాల్ చౌహాన్)తో కలసి దుబాయ్‌లో పనిచేస్తుంటాడు. మాఫియాను మట్టుబెట్టే ఓ మిషన్‌లో జరిగిన ఓ సంఘటనకు మనస్తాపం చెందిన విక్రమ్.. తన ప్రియురాలు, ఉద్యోగానికి దూరంగా ఉంటాడు. మాఫియా కార్యక్రమాలను అడ్డుకొనే మిషన్స్‌లో ఫ్రీలాన్సర్‌గా పనిచేస్తూ ఉండే విక్రమ్‌కు అను (గుల్ పనాగ్) నుంచి ఫోన్ వస్తుంది. తాను, తన కూతురు అదితి (అనిఖా సురేంద్రన్) ఆపదలో ఉన్నామని అను చెబుతుంది.

ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు టేకింగ్

దర్శకుడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు యాక్షన్ ఓరియెంటేషన్‌తో ఎంచుకొన్న ఫ్యామిలీ డ్రామా పాయింట్ బాగుంది. కానీ పర్‌ఫెక్ట్‌గా ఎమోషన్స్‌ను యాక్షన్‌కు మిక్స్ చేయలేకపోయారనే ఫీలింగ్ కలుగుతుంది. కానీ అత్యున్నత ప్రమాణాలతో యాక్షన్ సీన్లు చిత్రీకరించిన తీరు బాగుంది. స్టైలిష్ మేకింగ్, నాగార్జున, సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ లుక్‌ డిజైన్ చేసిన తీరు ఆకట్టుకొంటుంది. యాక్షన్ మూవీకి కావాల్సిన ఎన్విరాన్‌మెంట్‌ను బాగానే క్రియేట్ చేశాడు. కానీ ఒక మంచి యాక్షన్ మూవీకి కావాల్సిన బలమైన సన్నివేశాలను తెరకెక్కించే విషయంలో తడబాటు కనిపిస్తుంది. యాక్షన్, థ్రిల్లర్ జోనర్‌తో స్టైలిష్ మేకర్‌గా ఆకట్టుకొన్నారని చెప్పవచ్చు.

నాగ్, సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ పెర్ఫార్మెన్స్

టాలీవుడ్‌లో యాక్షన్, రొమాంటిక్, ఫ్యామిలి ఎమోషన్స్ చిత్రాల్లో నటించి మెప్పించిన ట్రాక్ రికార్డు నాగార్జునకు ఉంది. కానీ ఒక పూర్తిస్థాయి యాక్షన్ జోనర్‌లో నాగ్ చేస్తున్న అటెంప్ట్స్ ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్‌గా ఉంటున్నాయి. అయితే బలమైన కంటెంట్‌తో లేకపోవడం వల్ల తన టార్గెట్‌కు దూరంగా ఉంటున్నారనిపిస్తుంది. ది ఘోస్ట్ విషయంలో ఇంటర్‌పోల్ ఆఫీసర్‌గా, లవర్‌గా, ఫ్యామిలీ కోసం ఎంతకైనా తెగించే వ్యక్తిగా పలు వేరియేషన్స్ ఉన్న పాత్రలో మెప్పించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడని చెప్పవచ్చు. ఇక సోనాల్ చౌహాన్‌ను ఇప్పటి వరకు రొమాంటిక్ హీరోయిన్‌గానే చూశాం. కానీ ఈ సినిమాలో ఆమె చేసిన యాక్షన్ ఎపిసోడ్స్‌తో కొత్త సొనాల్‌ను చూడటానికి అవకాశం ఏర్పడింది.

మిగితా పాత్రల గురించి

మిగితా పాత్రల్లో అనుగా బాలీవుడ్ హీరోయిన్ గుల్ పనాగ్.. అదితిగా అనికా సురేంద్రన్ నటించారు. ఎమోషనల్ సీన్లలో గుల్ పనాగ్, అనికా తమ పాత్రలకు న్యాయం చేశారు. రవివర్మ, శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యాంగర్, ఇతర విలన్ పాత్రలు పెద్దగా ప్రభావితం చేయలేకపోవడం వల్ల వారు తేలిపోయారనే చెప్పవచ్చు. బలమైన నాగ్, సోనాల్ పాత్రలకు దీటుగా మిగితా పాత్రలు తెరపైన కనిపించలేకపోవడం సినిమా నెక్ట్స్ లెవల్‌కు చేరుకోవడంలో ఊగిసలాడిందనిపిస్తుంది.

టెక్నికల్ అంశాల గురించి

టెక్నికల్ విషయాలకు వస్తే.. సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్‌గా ముఖేష్ జీ పనితీరు బాగుంది. భరత్, సౌరభ్ అందించిన మ్యూజిక్ బాగుంది. ముఖ్యంగా బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ పలు సన్నివేశాలను ఎలివేట్ చేసింది. ధర్మేంద్ర కాకరాల ఎడిటింగ్ బాగుంది. సునీల్ నారంగ్, రామ్మోహన్ రావు, శరత్ మరార్ అనుసరించిన నిర్మాణ విలువలు బాగున్నాయి. స్టైలిష్ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్‌గా రూపొందించడం చూస్తే.. సినిమాపై వారికి ఉన్న అభిరుచిని తెలియజేసింది.

ది ఘోస్ట్ గురించి ఫైనల్‌గా..

యాక్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్‌తో ఫ్యామిలి, ఎమోషనల్ డ్రామాగా ది ఘోస్ట్ రూపొందింది. ఒక థ్రిల్లర్ కావాల్సిన అంశాలన్నీ చక్కగా కుదిరాయి. కానీ ఫ్యామిలీ డ్రామాను పూర్తిస్థాయి ఎమోషనల్‌గా డ్రామాగా రూపొందించి ఉంటే స్టైలిష్ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్‌గా మారి ఉండేదనిపిస్తుంది. బిజినెస్ డ్రామాను ఆసక్తికరంగా ప్రేక్షకుడికి కనెక్ట్ చేయలేకపోవడం ఈ సినిమాకు మైనస్. కథ, కథనాలపై మరింత కసరత్తు చేసి ఉంటే డెఫినెట్‌గా మంచి యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ అయి ఉండేది. ఈ సినిమా కమర్షియల్ స్టామినా బాక్సాఫీస్ వద్ద కొద్ది రోజులు ఆగితే తెలుస్తుంది. యాక్షన్, థ్రిల్లర్ సినిమాను ఆదరించే వారికి ది ఘోస్ట్ నచ్చడానికి అవకాశం ఉంది.

The Ghost Review

What's Behind

King Nagarjuna is gearing up to show the power of his stunts as an Interpol agent in The Ghost. Nagarjuna is following the sentiment and releasing the film on October 5, the same day when he scored a hit with Ram Gopal Varma's Shiva which turned out to be a cult classic. The film directed by Praveen Sattaru stars Sonal Chauhan as the female lead. Let us find out whether Nagarjuna gave goosebumps to all as The Ghost.

Story Review

The Ghost story revolves Nagarjuna add the Ghost and how he takes on the underworld Mafia. Vikram ( Nagarjuna), am Interpol agent gets surprised when his sister Anu ( Gul Panag) calls him after many years. He decides to meet his sister, much against the wishes of this colleague, lover Priya( Sonal Chauhan). This results in interesting twists and turns and lands the lives of everyone in danger. 

To unravel the mysteries of The Ghost and how it is connected to his niece Aditi (Anika Surendran), Pankaj  Nair ( Ravi Varma) enjoy The Ghost on the big screen. 

Artists, Technicians Review

Story of the Ghost readied by Praveen Sattatu is to show Nagarjuna in an action avatar. He starts the proceedings with action sequences setting the tone for the narration. Just like in PSV Garuda Vega he generates interest by unraveling each and every twist accordingly. He blended the action sequences with the right kind of emotions. The interval bang is well designed and it paves way for the second half. In the second half Nagarjuna goes all out to seek revenge and the climax blasts the minds of all. Praveen Sattatu's story is interesting and exciting and it is treat to Akkineni fans and action movie lovers. 

Nagarjuna who late has been doing feel-good romantic and family entertainers, deviated and came up with an  out and out action entertainer. He excelled in intense action and stunt scenes composed by the stunt choreographers. He showed good emotions while trying to save his sister and nice. Nagarjuna as usual looked slim and fit to play the role of an Interpol agent. 

Sonal Chauhan played the second fiddle to Nagarjuna and even she performed breathtaking stunts. Gul Panag got the important role of Nagarjuna's sister and she did well in her emotions. Aneka Surendran played the role of Nagarjuna's niece and she looked bubbly. Others like Ravi Varma, Srikanth Iyengar performed according to their  roles.

Songs of Bharatt-Saurabh didn't make an impact. Mark Robin however with his background music maintained the intensity. Dialogues are ok and Dharmendra Kakarala's editing could have been far better. Production values are good.

Rating Analysis

Altogether,  Praveen Sattaru thrilled Akkineni fans by showing Nagarjuna in a completely different way. None would have expected such transformation from Nagarjuna. The film has everything action movie lovers expect along with the emotions. However few may put off as the film lacks connectivity. Had Praveen Sattaru fine-tuned the story and script and added few twists and turns, along with few impactful emotions, The Ghost would have made a powerful impact. Considering all these elements, cinejosh goes with a 2.75 rating for The Ghost.

The Ghost Movie Review : సినిమా స్టోరీ ఏంటి?

ది ఘోస్ట్ అనే సినిమా స్టోరీ విక్రమ్ అనే మాజీ ఇంటర్ పోల్ ఆఫీసర్ కు సంబంధించిన స్టోరీ. కొన్ని రోజుల పాటు ఆయన అండర్ వరల్డ్ కు వెళ్లిపోతాడు. అయితే.. తన సోదరి, తన సోదరి కూతురును కాపాడుకోవడం కోసం అండర్ వరల్డ్ లో ఉన్న విక్రమ్ కాస్త బయటికి వస్తాడు. తన టీమ్ తో కలిసి పోరాడి తన సోదరిని, ఆమె కూతురును ఎలా కాపాడుతాడు అనేదే మిగితా స్టోరీ.

ఈస్ట్ అరేబియాలోని ఓ ఆపరేషన్ కు వెళ్లిన విక్రమ్, ప్రియ(సోనాల్ చౌహాన్) దాన్ని సక్సెస్ చేస్తారు. వీళ్లిద్దరూ లివ్ ఇన్ రిలేషన్ షిప్ లో ఉంటారు. అయితే.. మరో ఆపరేషన్ ఫెయిల్ అవడంతో విక్రమ్ తన ఉద్యోగానికి రాజీనామా చేసి వెళ్లిపోతాడు. ప్రియ మాత్రం ఎన్సీబీలో చేరుతుంది. ముంబైకి షిఫ్ట్ అవుతుంది. ఐదేళ్ల తర్వాత తన నాగార్జున సోదరి గుల్ పనాగ్(అను) ఫోన్ చేసి తన కూతురును చంపేయబోతున్నారని, తమ లైఫ్ రిస్క్ లో ఉందని నాగార్జునకు చెప్పి వేడుకుంటుంది. దీంతో విక్రమ్ ఊటీకి వెళ్తాడు. అక్కడ తన లైఫ్ నే రిస్క్ లో పెట్టి అను, తన కూతురు అదితిని కాపాడుతాడు. అసలు.. విక్రమ్ సోదరిని, తన కూతురును ఎందుకు చంపాలనుకుంటున్నారు. అసలు విక్రమ్ ఎవరు? ఆయన చిన్నతనంలో ఏం జరిగింది? ప్రియ తిరిగి విక్రమ్ దగ్గరికి వచ్చేస్తుందా? అనే విషయాలు తెలియాలంటే సినిమాను వెండి తెర మీద చూడాల్సిందే.

ఈ సినిమాకు కథ, దర్శకత్వం వహించింది ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు. ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు మొదటి మూవీ పీఎస్వీ గరుడ వేగ ఎంత సూపర్ డూపర్ హిట్ అయిందో అందరికీ తెలిసిందే. ఈ సినిమాలో నాగార్జున ఇంటర్ పోల్ ఆఫీసర్ గా కనిపిస్తాడు. ఈ సినిమా కోసం కొన్ని నెలల పాటు కత్తి, గన్ ట్రెయినింగ్ ను తీసుకున్నారు నాగార్జున. ఇలాంటి పాత్రలు చేయడం అంటే నాగార్జునకు పెద్ద కష్టమేమీ కాదు. ఎందుకంటే ఇలాంటి జానర్ లో నాగార్జున ఇప్పటికే చాలా సినిమాలు చేశాడు. చాలా సినిమాల్లో నటించాడు. గగనం, ఆఫీసర్, వైల్డ్ డాగ్ లాంటి సినిమాలన్నీ ఆ తరహా సినిమాలే. అయితే.. ఈ సినిమా మాత్రం ఫుల్ టు ఫుల్ యాక్షన్ అండ్ ఛేజింగ్ గా ఉంటుంది. అయితే.. ఈ సినిమాలో కాస్త రొమాంటిక్ యాంగిల్ కూడా ఉంటుంది. దాన్ని కూడా టచ్ చేశాడు డైరెక్టర్. విక్రమ్ క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్ ను పర్ ఫెక్ట్ గా సెట్ చేశాడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు. తనకు ఇది రెండో సినిమా అయినప్పటికీ రిచ్ లుక్ తో సినిమాను తీశాడు. ఇక.. నాగార్జున అక్కగా నటించిన గుల్ పనాగ్, ఆమె కూతురుగా నటించిన అనిఖా సురేంద్రన్ బాగా నటించారు. అలాగే విలన్ గా మనీశ్ చౌదరి ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు.

టాలీవుడ్ కింగ్ నాగార్జున, టాలెంటెడ్ డైరెక్టర్ ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు కాంబోలో తెరకెక్కిన చిత్రం ది ఘోస్ట్. ఈ మూవీ దసరా కానుకగా.. అక్టోబర్ 5న ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. అసలే టీజర్, ట్రైలర్ సినిమా మీద అంచనాలు పెంచేసింది. మరి ఈ సినిమా కథ, కథనాలు ఎలా ఉన్నాయి? ఆడియెన్స్‌ను ఈ చిత్రం ఏ మేరకు మెప్పించిందో ఓ సారి చూద్దాం. ది ఘోస్ట్ కథ ఏంటంటే.. విక్రమ్ (నాగార్జున) ఓ అనాథ. కల్నల్ నాగేంద్ర నాయుడు విక్రమ్‌ను చేరదీస్తాడు. నాగేంద్ర నాయుడు కూతురు అనుపమ (గుల్ పనాగ్), విక్రమ్ అక్కాతమ్ముడిలా కలిసి మెలిసి ఉంటారు. అయితే అనుపమ మాత్రం తనకు నచ్చిన వాడైన అశోక్ నాయర్‌ను పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటాను అని ఇంట్లోంచి వెళ్లిపోతుంది. 20 ఏళ్ల పాటు ఇంటికి దూరంగా ఉంటుంది. అనుని జాగ్రత్తగా చూసుకునే బాధ్యతను విక్రమ్‌కి అప్పగించి కన్నుమూస్తాడు నాగేంద్ర నాయుడు. 20 ఏళ్ల పాటుగా దూరంగా ఉన్న అనుపమ తన బిడ్డ అదితి (అనికా సురేంద్రన్) ఆపదలో ఉందని విక్రమ్‌కు కాల్ చేస్తుంది. తన సమస్యను వివరిస్తుంది.

అసలు అనుపమకు వచ్చిన సమస్య ఏంటి? అదితిని చంపేందుకు ప్రయత్నం చేసిన వారు ఎవరు? విక్రమ్ ది ఘోస్ట్‌గా ఎందుకు మారాల్సి వచ్చింది? అసలు ఘోస్ట్ వెనుకున ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ ఏంటి? ఈ కథలో ప్రియ(సోనాల్ చౌహాన్) పాత్ర ఏంటి? చివరకు అదితిని విక్రమ్ కాపాడాడా? అన్నదే కథ. ఎవరెలా నటించారంటే.. నాగార్జున ఇప్పటి వరకు అన్ని రకాల పాత్రలను పోషించారు. యాక్షన్, రొమాన్స్, కామెడీ ఇలా అన్ని రకాల కారెక్టర్లలో కనిపించారు. ఇక ఘోస్ట్‌లో అయితే మరింత స్టైలీష్‌గా కనిపించాడు. యాక్షన్ సీక్వెన్స్‌ల్లోనూ కొత్తగా కనిపించాడు. విక్రమ్, ఘోస్ట్ ఇలా రెండు రకాలుగా మెప్పించేశారు. సోనాల్ చౌహాన్ చేసిన స్టంట్స్ అదిరిపోయాయి. అయితే హీరో  హీరోయిన్ల మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ అంతగా వర్కౌట్ అయినట్టు అనిపించలేదు. అనుపమ పాత్ర, అదితి పాత్రలకు మంచి ఇంపార్టెన్స్ లభించింది. శ్రీకాంత్ అయ్యర్, రవి వర్మ వంటి వారు తమ స్టైల్లో నటించేశారు.

ఎలా ఉందంటే.. కిడ్నాపింగ్స్, ఎక్స్‌టార్షన్స్, బ్లాక్ మెయిల్స్ నేపథ్యంలో ఈ కథను రాసుకున్నాడు ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు. ఇక ఇందులో ఫ్యామిలీ డ్రామాను ఇరికించడంతో కొత్తదనం వచ్చింది. ఫ్యామిలీ ఎమోషన్స్, యాక్షన్ ఎపిసోడ్స్ అన్నీ కూడా బ్యాలెన్సింగ్ చూపించాడు దర్శకుడు. ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు సినిమాల్లో మేకింగ్ బాగుంటుందని అందరికీ తెలిసిందే. ది ఘోస్ట్ చిత్రంలోనూ ప్రవీణ్ సత్తారు మార్క్ కనిపించింది. కథనం ఎక్కడా కూడా స్లోగా అనిపించదు.

అసలు కథ ప్రారంభించేందుకు కొద్దిగా సమయాన్ని తీసుకున్నట్టు అనిపిస్తుంది. కానీ కథ ట్రాక్ ఎక్కిన తరువాత.. పరుగులు పెడుతుంది. విక్రమ్.. ఘోస్ట్ అని రివీల్ చేసే సీన్, ఇంటర్వెల్ అదిరిపోతుంది. అయితే సెకండాఫ్‌లో ఘోస్ట్ ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్‌ను మాత్రం అంత ఎఫెక్టివ్‌గా చూపించినట్టు అనిపించదు. ద్వితీయార్థం మాత్రం కాస్త గాడితప్పినట్టు కనిపిస్తుంది. క్లైమాక్స్ ఊహకు తగ్గట్టుగానే సాగుతుంది. ప్రథమార్థంలో ఉన్న ఇంట్రెస్ట్ సెకండాఫ్‌కు వచ్చే సరికి ఉండదనిపిస్తుంది. ఇక సాంకేతిక చూస్తే.. మార్క్ కే రాబిన్ ఇచ్చిన నేపథ్య సంగీతం అదిరిపోయింది. పాటలు, మాటలు అంతగా గుర్తుండవు. ముఖేష్ సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ పర్వాలేదనిపిస్తుంది. ధర్మేంద్ర కాకర్ల ఎడిటింగ్‌ ఓకే అనిపిస్తుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్టుగా ఉన్నాయి.

The Ghost Movie Review: High on body count, low on originality

2022 seems to be the year of swashbuckling spies, guns, and dead kids. While watching  The Ghost  it is hard to shake off the memories of  Vikram  and  Beast  in multiple instances. Similarities to one of these films should be leading to enjoyable results, right? Unfortunately, that’s not the case here. Every time we feel the film shows some promise, we are almost immediately given a reality check and told to keep our expectations under control. We keep rooting for the film to go a notch higher but it keeps refusing.

Nagarjuna plays an Interpol officer named Vikram (his first film in 1986 was named Vikram, allow me to remind you) and he is introduced in an Arabian desert, taking down a battalion of a suspicious, unnamed group of militants. He is joined by Priya (Sonal Chouhan) and together they wipe the hell out of the bad guys. They take down the last man and instantaneously begin kissing as the action sequence segues into a romantic montage song that plants information about Vikram’s struggles with trauma and his dear relationship with his adopted family. It is a bit jarring and it assures you to gain momentum. The actual action begins—or you think so—after the song when Vikram and Priya are on a mission to rescue a kid from a bunch of kidnappers. It starts with an uninspiring chase and ends with a tragedy, propelling Vikram to take down the whole underworld. When the film’s title appears, we are brimming with excitement, but the pleasure is only momentary with our curiosity being put to rest almost immediately with a text, ‘5 years later’. What happened to Vikram’s rage and the mission he set out on? We have to wait for that. This, I believe, is the biggest problem with the film: its refusal to focus on the amusement—violence and action—and insistence to meander on a rather generic plotline for an excessive runtime.

We hope to see Vikram hunt down thugs of the underworld in style, but before we get to that, we have to sit through a painfully long and generic set-up that features the protagonist double up as a guardian for his sister-like Anu (Gul Panag) and her reckless daughter Adithi (Anika Surendran). The conflict is not just bad guys after their lives but boardroom politics too. I would be lying if I say I wasn’t reminded of Trivikram’s recent films where the conflict is all about shares and stocks in a company. These portions of the film make you restless to see the action we signed up for.

When the film eventually enters the action zone in the final 35 minutes, it is entertaining, despite lacking inventiveness. The reveal about the origin of Vikram’s sobriquet, 'The Ghost’ is strongly reminiscent of the Babayaga story from  John Wick (2014). It is a concerned father warning his son about the repercussions of the grave mistake the latter has committed in both films. The highly hyped-up Katana sword is put to terrific effect here with dozens of glorious kills in the second half. The final 30 minutes of the film, suffused with bodies, blood, knives and guns, serve as a much-needed departure from the generic-ness that pervaded the set-up and the pay-off is indeed a treat to behold. 

Dharmendra Kakarala’s editing complements the action choreography by Dinesh Subbarayan and Kecha Khamphadkee superbly in the effective flashback sequence, collectively infusing energy into the overall mood. Mukesh G’s choice to punctuate red in an action sequence—featuring a blood red moon—set in a boat with neon lighting, darkness, and silhouettes in other action sequences lend a wonderful style to the whole origin story. The wide image of a hooded man holding a sword in the rain while dozens kneel before him, begging for mercy, is perhaps the best frame in the film. I wish  The Ghost  was actually about… the ghost and less about Vikram and boardroom politics. 

The action sequences are delightfully violent—bodies are chopped into pieces with the sword, a thug is beheaded and then his head is shot, making it explode like a watermelon, and there are countless headshots—and almost rescue the film. However, I wish there was a stronger purpose to the action here. The climactic action sequence, set in a church, is superbly shot but you can’t help but wonder about the futility of the whole sequence. The need for action and violence is barely registered, reducing the sequence to a deliberately crafted set-piece for the sake of spectacle. 

While we naturally accept to suspend our disbelief when we walk into a movie theatre,  The Ghost  expects a tad too much from us, barely trying to care for the reality. Physics is secondary; it is fine if the hero dodges all the hundreds of bullets. Emotions are primary; shouldn’t a person who is raging with sadness and anger at least attempt to take a shot at someone when he is in a position to, instead of waiting for the hero to finish off every man standing? Such glaring direction errors break the interest the film just managed to grab from us.

If there’s someone in the cast who gets the best deal after Nagarjuna, it is Sonal Chouhan, who puts up a surprisingly effective show in the action sequences. She is believable and moreover, not once does her character seek help from the man here. She always saves herself and others. Sad that she couldn't save the whole film though. 

The Ghost  is, in a way, a quintessential revenge drama that’s packaged with the flourishes of a modern-day actioner. To rehash a classic review line—just like the film is a rehash of many films—The Ghost is an old bullet in a new gun. It could have been what  Vikram  was to Kamal Haasan, but ends up being what  Beast  was to Vijay.

Story: After a failed mission, Interpol officers Vikram (Nagarjuna) and Priya (Sonal Chauhan) part ways. They also break up their relationship. Vikram also quits his job.

Five years later, he gets a call from his estranged sister Anu (Gul Panag). He heads to Ooty and finds that his sister and his niece (Anikha Surendran) are under threat. 

Vikram agrees to stay there and protect them. Anu is a chairperson of a huge business empire. Another company is trying to take over Anu’s company. Despite his efforts, Anu gets killed in an attack.

Will Vikram protect his niece safely? 

Artistes’ Performances: For senior Nagarjuna, the role is a cakewalk. He has done such roles in the past. All he does in the film is wields swords, blast ammunition, and indulge in shootouts.

Sonal Chauhan appears as an Interpol officer. She does some decent action stunts. Gul Panag plays a typical sister’s role.

Anikha Surendran plays the role of rich brat convincingly. 

Technical Excellence: Mukesh’s cinematography is terrific. More than anyone else, the stunt masters have more work to do in the film, and they excel in their jobs. The background score is apt. Editing lacks sharpness as the lengthy action episodes go on and on.

Analysis We all know that story takes a backseat in action dramas. But when the wafer-thin plot serves as an excuse to flip one action sequence to another, it feels dated. “The Ghost” is one such example. 

Praveen Sattaru who won the name for his slick execution of “PSV Garuda Vega '' wrote a one paragraph story. An Interpol officer who quit the job gets a personal assignment of saving his sister from the enemies. Praveen Sattaru has not developed any worth talking about moments other than this one-line story and filled it with a series of action stunts. 

One action sequence is set in a desert, the other on the busy city roads and the next one in a hill station. Another one is in a house. The next one is in another place. The locations change, and the scenes change, but the crux remains the same: a fight scene. 

No film in recent times has come with a series of action stunts with little to no story. Furthermore, given all the hype around threats that the hero’s sister faces, we expect a strong antagonist who might prove to be more than a match to the hero Nagarjuna, but what we get is a cardboard villain character.

To be fair, the first half of the film at least has some reasoning as it focuses on Nagarjuna’s Interpol days and a brief flashback about his family. The second half is a mess. The climax is excruciatingly bad. 

By adding “KGF”-like machine gun sequences and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram-like fight scenes, Praveen Sattaru has spoiled it further. For a film that also talks about sister and niece, the sentiment scenes are superficial. 

The blame entirely lies on Praveen Sattaru. It is his lame writing that is the villain. 

On the whole, “The Ghost” is another senseless action drama with no effective storytelling.

What happens when a few killers try to kidnap the girl and her mother? Who is The Ghost , and what’s his purpose forms the movie’s basic plot.

Performances King Akkineni Nagarjuna has once again picked up an exciting, action-packed role in the line of Gaganam and Wild Dog. He navigates through the proceeds with ease and exhibits a body language that is unique to him.

When we look at Nagarjuna in the movie, it is clear that he is enjoying doing it. The work also is lighter in drama even though it has a serious issue related to the lead. Nagarjuna breezes through the proceedings, but there is nothing memorable here.

Sonal Chauhan plays the female lead in the movie in the typical sense. She has a good opening block along with the star but is later missing in action. Sonal surfaces in the second half again, but it’s too late by then to have any impact.

Looking at the opening block of The Ghost, one definitely feels that there is a genuine action thriller on cards by Praveen Sattaru. Unfortunately, the dream is short-lived, and none other than Praveen Sattaru is to be blamed.

Praveen Sattaru has been dabbling in various genres since the beginning of his career. He cracks the formula and then fills the script with details related to the formula. All his films show similar patterns, which has worked for a few of them. But, when it comes to The Ghost, he has failed spectacularly.

The biggest issue with The Ghost is missing nativity. Apart from Nagarjuna, there is nothing to hold the attention to. The setting, the relationship beats, the personal problem pertaining to the hero, and everything looks very derivative.

What works amidst them is the action scenes. Two action blocks stand out, one at the beginning and another during the flashback. But, apart from them, nothing engages.

The artists, setup, and execution lack the realism required to have the impact. The action scenes without any foundation don’t work. Even a slick action thriller isn’t exempted. We have a couple of examples recently where the emotions were blended wonderfully. The same doesn’t happen between the kid and Nagarjuna in The Ghost.

Not only does the story feel alien, lacking nativity to the audience, but we also have elevations that feel too over the top and dilute the impact of the thin wafer story, which is already an issue.

The climax after all that happens, the twists along the way, nothing adds up to make an impact. There are good shots, some excellent BGM work, and nice action, but nothing comes together as a whole to leave one impressed.

Overall, The Ghost is a wasted opportunity considering the resources at disposal. A couple of action scenes and Nagarjuna are all that movie has to grab attention, and they are not enough.

Anikha Surendran is alright playing a spoilt rich brat who later develops affection. Srikanth Iyenger and Ravi Varma are repetitive and getting typecast in their parts. The rest of the actors have nothing to talk about.

The Ghost Review - Partially Engaging Action Saga.

The Ghost is a Telugu language Nagarjuna starrer action thriller. The film is directed by Praveen Sattaru of PSV Garuda Vega fame.

Nagarjuna is an Interpol Officer in Dubai. He also works in the shadows as ‘The Ghost’ to assassin all the criminals. He gets a call from India that his adopted family is in danger, and the operation starts.

Writing/ Direction

Director Praveen Sattaru has got the basics right, he showcases how capable the hero character is and the neat flashback brightens the emotional angle. Starts off as a regular commercial flick with action, glamour, etc. Creates interest after the story is established, it doesn’t have any exceptional plot or anything, but convincing enough conflict with the correct amount of heroism. The first half of the film is decently engaging, especially the Goa portions and the impactful interval setting. However, the latter is boring with outdated scenes and the drama becomes weak. The measured emotions goes past the limit, too much gore in the fight portions, heroism is over-the-top and these factors spoil the second half’s story-flow. The only thing that was noteworthy after the halfway mark was the solid pre-climax action sequence and the twisted finish it had. Talking about the twists, there are a couple of them and both were easily predictable, so didn’t have any shock value when they were revealed. The direction was kind of unexciting from the beginning, which was evident in many scenes. Logical loopholes are visible out there, throughout the flow. The church climax is horrible, in how many more action movies are we going to witness the same mission gun shoot-out. Not this, not Vikram , not Rocky , no other movie managed to give that excitement which Kaithi offered at the end.

Performances

Nagarjuna has carried the film well on his shoulders, he somehow brings that believability to the high-octane action, guess it is because of gun-play and not much with empty hands. I wish his look-set could’ve been stylish and more cool rather than being flat. Major miscast for the villains, which took out the seriousness in the subject to an extent, all of them seemed so away. The three lead ladies had prominent roles and they all did a good job, especially Anikha Surendran.

Technicalities

Songs are passable to listen to and in the movie as well as they appeared as montages. Background score lacks punch, the tunes must have been more powerful to elevate those action pieces. Nothing to blame in the camera work, different locations have been presented nicely with some quality wide-angle shots. Edit pattern could have been different, the scene order I mean, that could have made the screenplay more interesting. Stunt choreography is a mixed bag as the fights might not appeal to everyone, the action scenes are admirable at places but it becomes extremely violent for no reason towards the end.

A simple plot that could have been more relatable if it was approached in a grounded manner. Decent first half is brought down in the process of trying to make it look so cool.

What Is Prabhas’ Role in Kalki 2898 AD?

Kalki 2898 AD , one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, is about to be released in less than a week. Fans are very excited about the Prabhas- led film’s release. The movie is expected to bring back the massive glory to Prabhas’ career, much like the Baahubali film franchise. While his complete look as the lead character has been revealed, he recently gave more insights into it.

Prabhas will play the role of Bhairava in the upcoming mythological sci-fi action movie . The makers are leaving no stone unturned in promoting the film across audiences of all languages. They began by introducing Bhairava and his automobile with AI assistant Bujji. The car has been taken to several cities now, including Chennai and Mumbai. Moreover, the film’s entire cast, including the pregnant Deepika Padukone, also came together to promote the movie. During one such event, Prabhas recently opened up about Bhairava and revealed what kind of a superhero he is.

Prabhas’ role in Kalki 2898 AD explained

As per 123telugu.com , Prabhas threw light on his character Bhairava and revealed that it has grey shades despite being a superhero. He said, “My character has a lot of grey shades. I will be seen as a superhero, and there is also a humor touch to it. Telugu audiences have seen me in roles like these before. But for non-Telugu audiences, this is the first time they will be watching me in a funny character with grey shades. I think this is the best character I have ever played in my life.”

Bhairava’s mischievous side was shown in Kalki 2898 AD trailer. He could be seen goofing around and working for a good sum of money. However, he is also given a task to bring an important woman to the evil.

Prabhas’ Bhairava will be seen doing some high-octane action sequences in the upcoming movie. Besides him, Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Ashwatthama, will also be seen coming face-to-face with Bhairava. Despite the two trailers, the story of Kalki 2898 AD still remains a mystery for the audience.

Nag Ashwin directed Kalki 2898 AD, which will be released on June 27, 2024.
