Cast - Ram Pothineni, Aadhi Pinisetty, Krithi Shetty, Akshara Gowda, Nadhiya and others

Director - N. Lingusamy

Producer - Srinivasa Chitturi

Banner - Srinivasa Silver Screen

Music - Devi Sri Prasad

Ram and Lingusamy’s collaboration for a mass action drama has raised curiosity. While it marks Ram’s debut in Tamil, it also marks Lingusamy’s Telugu debut. This becomes a test for Ram and Lingusamy respectively. Will Ram & Lingusamy prove their mettle. Let’s find out whether they are successful in their mission or not.

What is it about?

Satya MBBS (Ram Pothineni) moves to Kurnool with his mother (Nadhiya) for his house surgeon where he meets RJ Whistle Mahalakshmi (Krithi Shetty). But honest doctor Satya is disturbed by the challenges from local rowdy Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty). He returns to Kurnool as Satya IPS and how he hunts down Guru forms the crux of the story.

Performances Ram is at ease as doctor Satya since he is seen as a soft, handsome and charming guy. When he transforms into DSP Satya he is not in full form. Krithi Shetty is okay as Whistle Mahalakshmi. She is good at songs and romance. Whereas her role is not ended properly and she goes missing in the conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist. Aadhi Pinisetty shines in the powerful role of Guru. He dominates with his performance. Nadhiya is alright as a determined and confident mother. But she is typecast for the role. Brahmaji’s plays dishonest police SI Devaraj which is also regular. Ajay’s character as villain’s side-kick is just filler and adds no value to the story. None of the other characters get noticed.

Technicalities Lingusamy picked up a story that is half-baked and fully predictable. While the characterisations of the lead were etched well, the director is clueless over weaving such a powerful story around them. He totally lost his grip on the film after revealing the crucial twist during the film’s interval. Devi Sri Prasad delivered good songs but he failed in giving thumping background music. But the songs placements do spoil the feel. Visuals are appealing, thanks to neat cinematography. The film’s pace struggles.

Villain Characterisation Songs

Thumbs Down

Slow & Predictable Screenplay Half-Baked Story & Dialogues Routine Climax

Lingusamy is a talented director who has delivered films like Anandam, Awara, Pandem Kodi and Run. But he had also delivered Pandem Kodi 2, Suriya’s Sikindar (Anjaan) that failed to impress. His latest offering The Warriorr, featuring Ram Pothineni, belongs to the latter. This is yet another disappointment from the seasoned filmmaker. The Warriorr takes off on a regular note where the hero is introduced followed by a song and then the hero shifts from Hyderabad to Kurnool where he meets his love interest (Krithi Shetty). There are some cute moments of romance initially. But they are not enough to take the story forward. The actual story begins when the face-off happens between Satya and Guru. The film’s first half is mostly managed by its treatment and the twist is saved for the interval.

Once the twist is unrevealed, the film turns even predictable. The DSP Satya’s mission is to take revenge on Guru and bring his empire down. After the interval, the film takes a nosedive. The director failed to sustain the interest in the conflict between the hero and villain. It is just a one-upmanship game that doesn’t interest the viewers. The scenes like the kidnapping of heroine and hero-villain track expected to work, but they don’t. The songs in the second half only obstruct the flow of the narration. However, songs may work for masses where Ram and Krithi danced well against nice sets. But the patience of critical audiences are tested here. The film is filled with scenes that are already seen in several old mass films.

The investigation of Dean Robert’s murder is also disappointing even after DSP Satya possessing a video proof. And the climax is even underwhelming where the hero lets go of such a baddie, guess why? Because he is a doctor at heart. The film also pays tribute to several doctor-police personnel in real-life. It is evident that a seasoned director suffers with second-half syndrome and the film failed at the script development stage itself. Despite good performances and nice songs, they can’t save the film owing to routine story and flat narration. Overall, The Warriorr is a case of ‘operation failed and patient dead’.

Bottom-line: War On Audience!

THE WARRIORR MOVIE REVIEW

The Warriorr (aka) The Warrior review

The blockbuster Tamil director of the 2000's is back with an out and out Telugu action film. He already has blockbuster action hits like Sandakozhi and Run to his credit. Let's see if his latest The Warriorr too joins this list. The film does have all the ingredients which are required for mass commercial film, a police hero, a fierce opponent and a cute heroine.

Playing a police character is a dream for every hero. It is often considered as the stepping stone towards becoming a mass hero. After Ismart Shankar, The Warriorr is a very smart choice by Ram Pothineni. He is all energy from start to finish and carries the film on his shoulders.

Krithi Shetty gets to play her own version of the pretty heroine in an action film. To her credit she remains a gorgeous diversion especially in the songs.

Aadhi Pinisetty is menacing as Guru. Right from the looks to the way the character behaves, Aadhi nails the part. Aadhi sincerity elevates the face-off between the two main leads. For a hero to win you need a convincing villain.  Aadhi is not just convincing, he is excellent in his part.

DSP's music was already a plus for the movie even before the release. The bullet song became a trending blockbuster. The other songs are in sync with the mood of the film. DSP truly shows his might in elevating a movie with his BGM.

Action sequences are the heartbeat of police films. In The Warriorr the action truly gives an adrenaline rush and makes us root for the hero.

This is Lingusamy's comeback after a brief hiatus and he has chosen the Telugu heartland to tell his story. He almost pulls off a near good comeback making an action commercial film with the Telugu audiences in mind.

The film is not without its flaws. The familiar story of good versus evil has been done N number of times. So, the screenplay becomes predictable after a while. The out of place comedy track doesn't help either. Despite these flaws The Warriorr is a fairly watchable rollercoaster ride. Overall The Warriorr is an out and out Ram Pothineni show.

The Warriorr Movie Review: The routine cop saga

A still from the movie Warriorr

As cops in films go, The Warriorr's Satya, played by Ram Pothineni, feels closer in spirit to Pawan Kalyan's straight-talking Gabbar Singh from the eponymous film (2012) over larger-than-life super-cop Narasimham from Yamudu (2010).

This gritty action entertainer directed by N Lingusamy is literally two films for the price of one. Set in Kurnool, the first half has our protagonist playing a doctor who believes in building trust and saving the people's lives while the second hour has him arriving as a fiery cop smashing the goons in slow motion. The two halves have a common enemy called Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty), a menacing rowdy who rules the roost in Kurnool.

The film opens nicely and coasts along well until it threatens to come incomplete in its final act. A commercial potboiler's potential considerably revolves around the interval bang, and here's where Lingusamy uses it to shift gears completely, albeit with a predictable 'twist'.

Movie: The Warriorr Cast: Ram Pothineni, Krithi Shetty, Aadhi Pinisetty, Nadhiya Director: N Lingusamy Rating: 2.5/5

Lingusamy opts for an entirely different tone in the second half, and it is where The Warriorr adopts many of the typical clichés of masala entertainers. In fact, it is after the interval that the real plot kicks in when Satya begins to find ways to nab Guru and uncover his organised crime racket. Soon he is involved in high-voltage action scenes and chilling confrontations and leaves no stone unturned to get over Guru's maze of accomplices. But Satya moves solely to work on settling scores with Guru, who has transformed Kurnool into a fortress for his criminal activities.

The camaraderie and the banter between Satya and Devaraj (Brahmaji) and other cops ring true, and the dialogues about the police department never feel out of step. And Satya has emerged into a one-man fighter by the time we reach the clunky climax. He's pretty much Gabbar Singh at this point.

Blame it on the disjointed screenplay if The Warriorr works not so much as a gripping, coherent, and racy entertainer, but a string of set pieces. As a result, the film feels way longer than its 155-minute run time, and the climax fight scene that takes place at the historical Kondareddy Buruju seems never-ending.

To be honest, the film has a fascinating premise and an especially unlikely character for Ram. I must say, he submits to his role by delivering a restrained and quiet performance. But the film cannot decide what it wants to be: an action thriller or a revenge drama with some twists and turns. The action scenes are impressively staged, but the narrative is slowed down by a couple of unnecessary songs and a boring love track between Ram and Whistle Mahalakshmi, played by Krithi Shetty.

Krithi's character of a radio jockey doesn't seem to be a crucial figure in the story. The film barely does any justice to her character, giving little room for her to breathe life into it. The other character played by Nadhiya seems like an extension of her portrayal in Prabhas-starrer Mirchi (2013). Her performance in the vegetable market scene and the penultimate one plays to the gallery with clap-trap lines.

The music by Devi Sri Prasad has its high points, especially the songs - Bullet and Whistle - which received a roaring response from the front benchers. The film is enhanced by brutal action and its striking camera work by Sujith Vasudev.

The Warriorr is not a perfect film, but it's way better than many of the regular super hits our commercial directors churn out. It's a masala entertainer with moments, but it's a light years away from being called a masterpiece.

What’s it about?

On his first job, Dr. Satya (Ram Pothineni) moves to Kurnool. Guru (Aadhi Pinishetty) controls the entire city, and his benami supplies poor-quality medicines to the hospital Satya works. No one has the guts to revolt against him, but Satya does. The powerful Guru nearly kills Satya in an incident.

Two years later, he enters the city not as a doctor but as an IPS officer. He is now a police officer and can take on Guru with all the powers.

Lingusamy, better known to the Telugu audience as the director of ‘Pandem Kodi’ and ‘Awaara’, in his Telugu debut has chosen a story of a cop vs a rowdy. “The Warriorr” is set against the backdrop of Kurnool city.

Inspired by true events, Lingusamy has written the story of a doctor becoming an IPS officer. MBBS graduates appearing for UPSC exams is not a new thing but the protagonist of Lingusamy’s ‘The Warriorr’ becomes an IPS officer for a different purpose. The protagonist believes that he can provide better treatment to a society suffering from rowdies than as a doctor. So, the doctor turns police officer for another ‘operation’.

Barring the point that a doctor becomes a police officer, ‘The Warriorr’ doesn’t have any novelty. It is a regular cop story much like Suriya starrer ‘Singam’ or other umpteen cop dramas. Lingusamy presents the first half of the film in a fast-paced manner, leaving no time for us to complain. Filled with mass moments and entertaining scenes, the interval comes in a jiffy.

By placing the entire story of the second half as a direct clash between the hero and the villain, Lingusamy let the film enter into a predictable zone. A mistake in the writing of the screenplay!

When you make the premise a regular battle between the protagonist and the antagonist without any new turns and twists, you invite trouble yourself. That is what happened here. Lingusamy’s narrative in the second half lacks inventiveness.

The standout scene in the entire drama is the villain Aadhi fearing for his life with the silence of the protagonist. The 15-minute kidnap sequence is terrific. But the film turns completely clichéd from here.

Ram single-handedly shoulders the film. Ram gets the chance to show two variations in a movie of a doctor and a cop. Despite playing the role of a police officer for the first time, he gets it right. He manages to hold our attention even when the narrative turns bland.

Krithi Shetty has played her part well. She has shared good chemistry with Ram and danced well. Aadhi Pinishetty’s performance as a villain is another interesting feature. Aadhi’s introduction is one of the best aspects of the film. Among other actors, Nadiya and Brahmaji are noteworthy.

Devi Sri Prasad has once again given foot tapping numbers. “Bullett”, “Dada Dada” and “Whistle” add energy to this film. Sujith Vassudev’s cinematography is another asset.

Bottom-line:  With a regular storyline of a cop vs rowdy, ‘The Warriorr’ solely relies on Ram’s shoulders, and he delivers what is required. Three catchy songs and Ram’s acting are the better part of this routine cop drama. But the masala is not sufficient enough to satiate the taste buds. The second half of the film runs on complete predictable lines.

The Warriorr Movie Review: Aadhi Pinisetty Shines In A Messy Film

The Warriorr Movie Review: Aadhi Pinisetty Shines In A Messy Film

Cast:  Ram Pothineni, Aadhi Pinisetty, Krithi Shetty , Akshara Gowda, Nadhiya Moidu

Director: N. Lingusamy

As a child, before going to boarding school where movies would never be screened, I'd pester my parents to bombard my brain with as many Telugu movies as possible. Mind you, this was the early 2000s. The films were terribly predictable and would be an assault on the senses. It was the mental equivalent of extra schezwan crispy fried noodles with extra garlic and chilly sauce. But because of the artificial scarcity created by boarding school, I would devour all these Telugu films.

Watching The Warriorr took me down a nostalgia trip I never wanted to go down. It has all the elements of an early 2000s Telugu cinema and barely any nuance or twist expected in contemporary cinema.

A hero enters a new town. Check.

A villain terrorizes the whole town. Check.

A ditzy heroine who's annoying. Check.

Garish costumes and songs. Check.

Hero and villain lock horns at an iconic location. Check.

Unsurprisingly in this film, it's Kurnool and Konda Reddy Buruju. There is much grouse to be taken with Telugu films depicting Rayalaseema as the badlands of the Telugu states. Agreed the region has a history of faction leaders who terrorized towns but hasn't this point been made a billion times?

Do we need one more film to show it again?

Do people from these towns not love? Are there no other stories to tell? Are they all part of a client-patron relationship and are always either subservient to the villain or in awe of the hero? Are there not interesting stories and dramas to be explored there? Are there not fascinating people there who aren't murderers or people waiting to be saved? Auto drivers, teachers, doctors, lovers, students, historians, farmers…film reviewers watching films massacre the image of the region. (Yes yes, I'm from that part so this trope is even more tiresome).

The Warriorr on the other hand chooses to tell the story of Satya (Ram Pothineni) an MBBS intern who comes to Kurnool to become a doctor. He believes that only mothers and doctors know the pain of saving a life and therefore its value. You know he's a good guy because he plays Holi with children, he has a playful relationship with his mother, and lectures the heroine Whistle Mahalaxmi (Krithi Shetty), a successful RJ, to get married. And terrorizing Kurnool is Guru (Aadhi Pinisetty) a real bad bad bad guy. He's so bad he beheaded someone when he was 14 and doesn't care about using children as bait to arm-twist his rivals. Ingenious stuff this is. But he also has a quasi-environmentalist bubbling inside him because every time he takes a life, he plants a tree. A piece of barren land has now become a forest. So maybe this Guru chap is on to something. Is he a misunderstood misanthrope? Only time will tell because this film surely doesn't tell us much more.

Aadhi Pinisetty grimaces and scowls as he delivers dialogues in his accented Telugu and it is commendable that he's trying to salvage a part so comically derivative of every villain in every masala film ever that after a point I was happy that he got this pay cheque. I hope he used the money to buy something nice for himself because I definitely didn't get anything for my money.

Whistle Mahalaxmi is such a poorly treated character, she asks Satya to take her on his bike over speedbumps in the hope that he could cause a bump of his own in her belly. When playing with this kind of subtlety I wonder what kind of notes she was given as an actor. Was it just a page full of emojis with notes that say "Move your mouth a little bit so there can be dialogues dubbed over"? Who knows? But if the art tells something about the artist, then I know the top 5 emojis used by writer-director Lingusami.

I remember as a child walking out of Jagadam in 2007 and Ready in 2008 feeling that Ram Pothineni is going to change the kind of stories that Telugu films tell. But in 2022 his title card which used to read "Ram Pothineni" now reads "Ustaad Ram Pothineni". I guess that's change. And you can't say nobody didn't warn us that progress was going to be slow.

But let's talk about DSP. No, not the clever trick the film thinks it has up its sleeve. Not even Divya SriPada who is another talented actor in this film wasted in the role of "woman getting chased by goons so that Hero can enter" character. I could just imagine her holding the cheque and looking at the camera guiltlessly to say "I did a film called Middle Class Melodies but that doesn't mean I want to remain middle class."

I am talking about DSP – Devi Sree Prasad. He croons a song that goes "He's a fighter, He's a survivor, He's the warrior". That's him. Nearly 3 decades in, he's churning out films and knowing when to give good music and when not to. You knew  Pushpa: The Rise was going to be a great film when the music felt fresh and rooted in the film's context. You felt the same with the music of Uppena and Rangasthalam . But listen to him croon the above lyrics in The Warriorr and it feels like he probably sang it when he was stuck at a traffic signal, after missing three meals in a row, and he had heard the story of this film.

But the real fighters, survivors, and warriors are my parents who put up with me when I was a petulant child. Now I understand what they felt like while they sat with me through countless mediocre films.

What's Behind

Energetic Star Ram's The Warriorr directed by Lingusamy is generating immense interest. Ram is making his entry into Kollywood with his mass action entertainer while Lingusamy is doing the same in Tollywood. The film is releasing on July 14,2022 amidst huge expectations. Let us see how Ram showed his power as The Warriorr at the box office.

Story Review

Satya (Ram Pothineni) goes to Kurnool to join as a House Surgeon in the Kurnool government hospital. As Satya endears himself to all as a doctor with a generous heart, stunning developments take place in his life. To find out those stunning developments and how his relationship with his mother Rajyalakshmi (Nadiya) and how his love life with Whistle Mahalakshmi (Kriti Shetty) progressed and what it has got to do with the hard core criminal and aspiring politician Guru (Aadi Pinisetty), what is the secret behind DSP Satya, enjoy The Warriorr on the screen.

Artists, Technicians Review

Ram slipped into the role tailor-made for him. As he has done lover boy roles and mass roles in his career, doing the role with dual shades turned out to be a cakewalk. While as a doctor he looked soft and handsome and his chemistry with Kriti Shetty appealed to all. Then as a tough police officer, he looked mass and rugged and took on Aadi Pinisetty. His body language, expressions, and emotions are good in both roles. He showed variations in these things as a doctor and as a police officer.

Kriti Shetty looked cute and oozed with glamor in songs. She got a good screen presence and made the best use of it. She emoted well in a few of the scenes. The songs are well choreographed between both of them and it is a treat to watch both of them on screen. Nadiya performed well as a caring mother and at the same time showed her toughness when confronted by Aadi. Aadi Pinisetty looked menacing on screen. His looks and hairstyle are perfect and his mannerisms are good. However at times, one gets an impression that he imitated Allu Arjun's mannerisms and dialogue delivery in Pushpa. Brahmaji performed well as a cop showing dual shades. Akshara Gowda, Bharati Raja, Jayaprakash, Ajay, and others performed according to their roles.

Lingusamy is known for his mass action entertainers. When Ram teamed with Lingusamy, many expected breathtaking action sequences. Lingusamy tried to elevate Ram's mass image with intense action blocks. He started off the narration in a slow and normal manner and as the story progressed elevated Ram's heroism vis a vis Aadi Pinisetty. The narration went on a predictable note and as in Lingusamy's earlier films, the story lacks logic. He blended the first half with family elements, a few romantic scenes, and sentiment sequences in the Hospital to show Ram as a person who cares about everyone. Ram and Kriti Shetty's romance is shown in a realistic and appealing manner and with the entry of Aadi Pinisetty, the narration picks up pace. The entire first half talks about Ram as a caring doctor trying to bring justice to the people taking on the mighty and powerful Aadi Pinisetty. The Interval block introduces Ram as the DSP and this sets the stage for the clash between Ram and Aadi in the second half.

The second half is loaded with mass action elements between Ram and Aadi and though the intensity is there when movie lovers expected Lingusamy to take it to the next level, it comes down crashing. Few of the action blocks are shot in an interesting manner but the second half turned a bit predictable and routine and finally, the story comes to an end. Scenes involving Ram and Naditya elevated the mother-son bonding, Ram and Kriti Shetty, a beautiful romance, and Ram and Aadi, a clash of personalities. For all the highs, Lingusamy failed to power Warriorr to the next level with a weak story, screenplay, and direction.

Devi Sri Prasad's songs are foot tapping and Whistle and Bulletu songs stand out. His background music at times elevated the proceedings but at times failed to do so. Sujith Vasudevan's cinematography is good and could have been better. Naveen Nooli could have used his editing scissors more to do away with the routine elements both in the first and the second half. Production values are fine.

Rating Analysis

Ram and Lingusamy's The Warriorr increased expectations with interesting promotions. The foot-tapping songs increased the hype and fans got excited about Ram's Kollywood debut. Lingusamy true to his forte elevated Ram's mass image to another level showing him as a caring doctor and then as a ruthless police officer. Though Ram's heroism is elevated with a few intense action sequences, foot tapping mass beats, the story turned out to be extremely routine and Lingusamy failed to power it to another level with his screenplay and direction. Considering all these aspects, CJ goes with a 2.75 for The Warriorr.

The Warriorr Movie Review

The Warriorr Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating 2.5/5

Dr. Satya (Ram Pothineni) works at Kurnool government hospital, cross paths with the local don Guru (AdiPinisetty) . Vexed with the inactive police officers who afraid to take on Guru, Dr. Satya himself becomes IPS officer. Satya is posted to Kurnool as DSP, confronts with the menacing Guru. Rest of the story deals with the Satya, Guru’s actions to counter each other

Expectations are moderate to above the average on this film due to HIT audio. First one hour of the movie is fast-paced despite being a regular story. The director Linguswamy shows his strength dealing with mass elements mainly highlighting the villainy. Mass scenes offer some freshness from shot making perspective, but the honeymoon period is short lived. When the doctor becomes IPS, the movie goes redundant loops instead of racing up. Writing team had good opportunity to elevate the movie further as the foundation in first half was setup for the Satya Vs Guru war in second half. However, the film turns predictable and unappealing confrontation scenes spoil second half

Ram as a doctor looked innocent, and equally good as IPS officer.KrithiSetty as RJ Mahalakshmi looks wise is just okay. Color Color song is a routine hero introduction song. Audio hit songs “ Bullet Song “ and “whistle song” come in second half , both sets follow same color scheme anddances are good. AadhiPinisetty role is menacing as mafia don Guru. Devisri Prasad background score is not up to the mark. However, the songs are good.

  • Ram,Aadhi Performance
  • Mass appealing first half
  • Three Good Songs
  • Predictable story
  • Redundant Guru Vs Satya scenes

‘The Warriorr ‘film is a mediocre one. First half of the film works for the masses, second half is not up to the mark.Ram and Aadhi did perform well. Entire movie runs on Satya Vs Guru thread, which turns as the major drawback.

The Warriorr Review: Loses The Battle

The Warriorr Review: Loses The Battle

Movie: The Warriorr Rating: 2.5/5 Banner: Srinivasaa Silver Screen Cast: Ram Pothineni, Aadhi Pinishetty, Krithi Shetty, Nadiya, Akshara Gowda, and others Music: Devi Sri Prasad DOP: Sujith Vassudev Dialogues: Sai Madhav Burra Editor: Navin Nooli Production Design: DY Sathya Narayana Presents: Pavan Kumar Producer: Srinivasaa Chitturi  Written and Directed by: N. Lingusamy Release Date: July 14, 2022

One film that has generated the right buzz and hype with its songs and promos in recent times is “The Warriorr”. The “Bullett” song went viral. With Tamil director N Lingusamy helming the film, it has raised curiosity. Has the film lived up to all expectations?

Let’s find out.

Story: Satya (Ram Pothineni), a young doctor in Kurnool, pretty soon understands that rowdy Guru (Aadhi Pinishetty) controls the entire city.

When Satya complains about Guru in a police station, he also comes to know that the police are of little to help to the people here.

When Satya directly confronts Guru, the rowdy beats the doctor to the pulp. Satya’s mother (Nadiya) takes her wounded son to another city. Two years later, Satya is back in the city. This time as an IPS officer!

The rest of the drama is Satya vs Guru.

Artistes’ Performances: In his career, Ram Pothineni has never played a cop until now. As a doctor turned police officer, he delivers a flawless act. He is in his form. He shows a marked difference between his two avatars - doctor and cop.

Aadhi Pinishetty has delivered a believable act in the role of rowdy Guru.

Krithi Shetty gets a cute role of Radio Jockey, but her character doesn't add much value to the story. She complements Ram very well with her dance.

Nadhiya is okay. Brahmaji gets one noticeable scene.

Technical Excellence: Devi Sri Prasad’s music is a huge asset. The catchy songs – “Bullett” and “Whistle” have helped much to the proceedings. Sai Madhav Burra shows his mark in some of the dialogues. The camerawork and the production design and values are decent.

Highlights: Ram Pothineni’s act as a cop DSP's Songs Krithi Shetty’s kidnap scene

Drawback: Regular story Climax and final scenes Predictable narrative

Analysis Director Lingusamy’s maiden Telugu directorial starring Ram follows the regular theme of action dramas. The story isn't anything new except for Ram being a doctor turned police officer.

The introduction of Aadhi Pinishetty is interesting. For every murder he does, he plants a tree. To prove his murderous acts, the camera zooms on a vast forest. Such sequences have added novelty to an action drama at the start.

The fun romantic drama between the Radio Jockey (Krithi) and the doctor (Ram) in the beginning makes the proceedings watchable. Although the clash between Ram and Aadhi Pinishetty is routine, the early portions hold our attention.

The problem with this predictable storyline is that director Lingusamy has not added any new twist after the interval. It is a plain fight between a hero and a villain.

Everyone knows that hero will win against the villain in the end. So, what’s the thrill? The excitement one needs when two forces clash goes missing here in the second half.

The only highlight in the second half of the film is Krithi Shetty’s kidnap scene. The tense moments are written, acted, and directed terrifically. Barring this, the rest of the film goes on the expected line - the battle between the hero and the villain.

Lingusamy has presented Ram in his fiercest avatar as a cop, but he should have added more masala in the final portions.

The Kurnool backdrop, a rowdy controlling the entire city, a police officer taking on the rowdy… none of these are new to the Telugu audience. Perhaps, director Lingusamy thought a doctor becoming an IPS officer to give treatment to the wounded system might bring newness to the mass genre. It would have been different had he infused some energy in the latter part.

Despite three terrific songs, Ram’s hyperactive performance, and a couple of interesting scenes, the film lacks the ‘fire’ required for such mass entertainers.

In a nutshell, “The Warriorr” is like Rayalaseema’s famous Ragi Sankati but this Sankati is not served with ‘Kodi koora’ but with sambar or chutney. Hence, the spiciness is missing. It is edible, but not tasty enough.

Bottom line: Not Whistle Worthy

Satya (Ram), a doctor, comes to Kurnool city as an intern in a hospital. He soon finds out about injustice happening in the city and exposes one scam that’s related to the hospital. The issue angers Guru (Aadi Pinisetty) who is a rowdy terrorising the city.

What happens when an angry Guru decides to kill Satya? How Satya comes back reformed and takes head on the monster is the movie’s core plot.

Performances

Ram is back with a new outing after a long gap. He plays a character with dual shades that helps him cater to both the class and mass. As doctor Satya, Ram is extremely classy whereas he turns ‘massy’ as police. He does well in both roles with required fun and intensity.

It takes a little time to get used to Ram as a police officer in uniform though. His personality is accentuated, but that’s only initially and we settle down eventually as the aggressive cop avatar takes over.

Krithi Shetty plays a routine commercial cinema heroine in the true sense. She is there only for comedy and songs. She has nothing to show as an actor. However, glamour wise she is presented well, especially in the songs.

Director-Lingusamy-

N Lingusamy, a senior name in Tamil cinema, directs The Warrior. It is a mass action entertainer the likes of which he has handled deftly in the past.

Lingusamy picks a wafer-thin story for The Warrior. It is all about the screenplay and treatment for the movie to succeed. He has delivered successful mass outings in the past with similar hair brain plots. Unfortunately, Lingusamy fails to do so here.

Right from the start, there is something off with The Warrior. The transitions between the hospital scenes to family fun are poorly done. One gets a messy vibe before things settle with a powerful villain introduction block.

By the time the villain is introduced and some drama happens related to the hero, the issue plaguing the movie becomes even more transparent. There is an unevenness in proceedings. The screenplay fails in building momentum and energy out of some well-executed scenes. The predictability on top of it all further mars the experience.

The pre-interval and interval blocks again are symptomatic of the above-mentioned problem. There are small parts which give a terrific impression, but overall a high is missing.

The second half starts on a much better note with Ram taking charge as the cop. The focus is on action and drama which leads to a cohesive narrative briefly. The build-up and delivery in a couple of action scenes are neatly done.

However, the same issues related to unevenness crop up again. Additionally, the weakness in direction is also visible. Many scenes fail to hit the high due to dull and flat execution. The face-off between the hero and villain is a classic example here. It should have been explosive. There is material but a combination of direction, background score and writing don’t let it explode.

The last half an hour including the climax is laborious, to say the least. The narrative chugs along to reach a predictable face-off and then end. The duel between the hero and villain is a mere sparkle when it should have been a bomb.

Overall, The Warrior is a routine mass entertainer which has some mass moments working intermittently. But, a weak direction and screenplay play spoilsport. What should have been a cracker of a mass entertainer turns out to be a boring actioner.

Krithi-Shetty-The-Warriorr-Telugu-Movie-Review

Apart from the lead pair, Aadhi Pinisetty and Nadiya have key roles. The former especially is crucial to the whole movie as he is the antagonist.

Aadhi Pinisetty gets a typical mass villain role who is powerful and dreaded by everyone. It is in contrast background-wise compared to his last such memorable act in Sarrainodu. However, there is nothing much here for the actor to do. We have seen it all before and he pulls it off with ease. There is a good screen presence, but the impact is missing barring a few scenes. The whole act would have been forgettable if not for those small well portrayed bits.

Nadhiya appears on and off playing the mom. She is alright and delivers the required. Among the rest, there are a few known faces like Ajay, Jayaprakash etc. but they are wasted.

Music Director Devi Sri Prasad

Devi Sri Prasad gives typical commercial songs that work on screen with placement and choreography. When it comes to the background score, it is a mixed bag. Some parts are fine, but a few are very jarring and loud and come across as noisy. Then there are a few repetitive bits which are both outdated and loud.

Sujith Vassudevan’s cinematography is alright. There are some portions which could have been better visually. Naveen Nooli’s editing should have been better during the initial portions. The choreography of a couple of songs is fine. The writing is ordinary.

Highlights?

Ram And Aadhi Couple Of Action Blocks Two Songs

Screenplay Routine Story Direction No Real High BGM

Aadhi-Pinisetty-The-Warriorr-Telugu-Movie-Review

The same subject could be made racy with a better screenplay. An alternative take would be better integration of romance and family drama or external hurdles in the narrative.

Ratings: 3/5 Review By: 123Telugu Site:123Telugu

On the whole, The Warriorr is a typical masala cop drama that has some impressive mass blocks. Ram and Aadhi Pinisetty hold the screen with their impressive act but the story is a bit routine and predictable. If you are okay with this aspect and like to attempt a mass film, The Warrior can be happily given a shot at a single screen to enjoy the euphoria.

About ‘The Warrior’… An action entertainer with a commercial feel. Ram, Adi Pinishetti’s acting… Kriti Shetty’s glamour… three songs… action episodes… good. The length is longer. Hence, the second half is slow. Linguswamy of yesteryear was not seen as a director. If you go to this movie without any expectations, you can pass the time happily. ‘The Warrior’… for commercial movie lovers!
