2. Chief Learning Officer

Average Annual Salary: $152,225

In education, top executive roles include positions like “chief learning officer”—a senior-level professional who develops and drives strategies that help his or her college or university meet critical business goals. Chief learning officers (CLOs) focus on creating strategies for training, learning, and development, and typically oversee an institute’s latest technologies, such as its online learning platform.

Average Annual Salary: $148,783

A provost—or vice president, depending on the college or university—is a senior-level academic administrator who tends to be second in command after the president. Provosts work closely with deans and department heads, and help determine their institution’s academic goals and priorities, as well as how to allocate the resources necessary to support those initiatives. They often oversee daily operations and work to hire and retain a diverse faculty. 

4. School Superintendent

Average Annual Salary: $116,931

Superintendents are the top executives of a school district. They’re responsible for establishing and overseeing their district’s budget, staffing, infrastructure, and spending. Superintendents collaborate closely with a school board to develop and implement new policies and programs in line with the district’s short- and long-term goals, as well as allocate the financial and human resources necessary to achieve the district’s overarching vision.

5. Elementary, Middle, and High School Principal

Average Annual Salary: $95,310

Principals oversee the daily operations of an elementary, middle, or high school. They hire teachers and staff, manage the budget, and enforce disciplinary rules when necessary. Principals also develop and assess educational programming aimed at achieving student learning outcomes, all while striving to create and maintain a positive learning environment. More than 11,000 principal positions are expected to emerge by 2028, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics .

A principal’s salary might differ depending on whether he or she works at an elementary, middle, or high school. The mean wages for principals at each level, according to PayScale are:

  • Elementary School : $81,095
  • Middle School : $87,989
  • High School : $92,197

6. Academic Dean

Average Annual Salary: $90,339  

Deans work at the senior administrative level of a college or university. The role varies depending on the institution, but deans often manage faculty and staff, set academic goals, implement strategic planning, oversee their department’s budget, help fundraise, support research initiatives, and foster student development. Some departments you might find them in are:

  • Admissions : Those working in admissions develop and lead recruitment initiatives for a college or university. They evaluate applications, decide the number of students who should be admitted to the school, who those students should be, and communicate with prospects and their families.
  • Research : A dean of research often oversees faculty and collaborates with them to create a strategy for developing short- and long-term research initiatives. They also work to secure research funding, oversee the research budget, and establish key industry partnerships.
  • Student Affairs : The student affairs office typically oversees a variety of different departments, such as residence life, athletics, student support services, and diversity and inclusion. A dean of student affairs typically establishes and evaluates nonacademic programs that foster and enrich the student experience, as well as handle disciplinary issues and communicate with students’ parents or legal guardians.
  • Advancement : The advancement office—also known as “development” or “alumni relations” depending on the school—is responsible for securing funding for the college or university from potential donors, including alumni, government policymakers, corporations, and foundations. They nurture and maintain those relationships, ensuring all gifts received are being used as intended.

7. Professor

Average Annual Salary: $78,470

Postsecondary teachers, or professors, work at the college or university level, developing course curricula, instructing students in a specific area of study, and assessing their progress. When they’re not teaching, professors are often conducting research, writing scholarly papers, or attending conferences.

Professors’ salaries vary based on where they are on the tenure track and their area of expertise. The median salary for a professor based on rank, according to PayScale, is:

  • Lecturer: $51,101
  • Assistant Professor : $67,021
  • Associate Professor : $76,250
  • Professor : $87,018

Job Summary

Harvard’s Math Department is working to improve mathematics curricula by building experiences that embrace mathematical modeling, empower students with quantitative tools to better understand the complexity of the world, leverage active learning, and promote problem-solving skills. The department is hiring an Educational Research Scientist to develop methods to assess the efforts underway and to contribute to strategic planning for the future.  The research will have an equity focus, to make sure that the department is building mathematical experiences that foster a sense of belonging and an intellectual community for students who ordinarily are marginalized in the mathematical sciences.

Reporting to the Director of Introductory Math, the Educational Research Scientist will drive efforts to leverage data and systems-thinking to help ensure that the math department is developing students’ quantitative toolkit to take on challenges in their field of study. This role will work closely with faculty teaching introductory courses to design research studies documenting the success of introductory courses, find areas for improvements, and support the dissemination of effective innovations to help catalyze change in mathematics education at a national level. The Educational Research Scientist will also provide mentorship for members of the department interested in educational research.

For applicants with a background in mathematics instruction, occasional teaching in the introductory math sequence may be possible for additional compensation.

Position Description

This role will conduct evaluations in the department and support efforts of continuous improvement. In addition, the Educational Research Scientist will:

Education Research Facilitation:

  • 1. Develop and Implement Assessment Strategies: Devise a comprehensive plan for evaluating key initiatives and establish clear timelines for major projects. This will ensure efficient monitoring and progress tracking.
  • 2. Promote Scholarly Publications: Collaborate on writing and submitting articles to esteemed scientific journals and publications. By sharing research findings, we contribute to the advancement of the education field.
  • 3. Pursue Grant Opportunities: Identify potential grants that align with our research objectives and take the lead in preparing and submitting grant applications.

Department Data Curation

  • 1. Collect and Analyze Data: Gather, clean, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data related to course offerings, thereby helping the department assess the outcomes of various initiatives.
  • 2. Create Progress Monitoring Dashboards: Design data-driven dashboards that enable the department to monitor ongoing progress, allowing for more informed planning and decision-making.

Education Research Mentorship:

  • 1. Provide Strategic Recommendations: Conduct thorough literature reviews to support the department in identifying innovative approaches to enhance educational practices. Communicate these recommendations effectively to relevant stakeholders.
  • 2. Organize Training and Workshops: Conduct training sessions and workshops to familiarize department members with the latest education research, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • 3. Offer Mentorship and Research Opportunities: Provide mentorship to preceptors and lecturers interested in developing their expertise in educational research. Offer them opportunities to engage in meaningful research projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in education, statistics, or related field required.
  • 5 years experience in assessment, evaluation, or education research including work completed as a student.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • ​​​​​​​PhD in Math Education, Educational Metrics, or Learning Assessment preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to consistently demonstrate diplomacy, sound judgment, and flexibility as well as strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to independently plan, organize, and implement team-based projects with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the research pipeline and the process of conducting research.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging.

Technical Abilities

  • Practical experience with reporting, analysis, and data visualization tools preferred (e.g., R, STATA, Power BI, Excel, Tableau, etc.)
  • Excellent judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities.

This position will be based on the Harvard campus, in Cambridge, MA

This is a 3-year term appointment from the date of hire.

Recent PhDs should consider this as a potential postdoctoral position that could set them up for a wide range of positions including tenure track positions but should realize that the research focus will be aligned with the department’s priorities.

The Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks a full-time Education Research Coordinator to support the Back Academic Development Lab in advancing research on the language, literacy, and culture of African Americans. The position will support the lab's research activities as we work on publications and editing in service of the experiences of Black students and faculty. If you are planning for a future in graduate-level research concerning the educational experiences of Black students from a language, literacy, and culture perspective, this role may be for you.

This position is a 1-year fixed-term appointment that may be extended based on performance and funding. Consideration will be given to applicants across the United States who provide a resume and a cover letter describing their research interests and experiences, as well as their editing and revising skills. We are also a center for the study of liberatory linguistics. The candidate will engage with students, faculty, and staff at Stanford and throughout the BAD lab collective.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to Professor Anne H. Charity Hudley, the Research Coordinator is responsible for helping with and contributing to the scholarly and public communications of lab activities, managing the lab schedule, and providing support for lab-related events, including online courses and workshops. The Research Coordinator will also be responsible for editorial support for lab-authored publications and publications edited by the lab.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance. General instruction is provided by the supervisor as needed. May interpret study results in collaboration with supervisor or PI.
  • Assist with the development, communication, and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web updates, social media, and/or white papers, for use in recruitment, educational, or awareness of programs, with guidance from the supervisor.
  • Edit and revise manuscripts according to the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) citation formats.
  • Manage correspondence and correspond with authors regarding submission for publication to scholarly publications and edited collections.
  • Conduct literature searches and write literature summaries and manuscripts, requiring preliminary judgments after the supervisor outlines the conceptual approach.
  • Identify, select, extract, and summarize data and structured information. Present summary of findings to supervisor.
  • Build and organize data as requested by the principal investigator or supervisor; use common statistical programs requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data.
  • Maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs. Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants and journal authors. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data as needed. Schedule and/or call participants for appointments.
  • Prepare, distribute, administer, and process questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Analyze and summarize results for review with the supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable humanistic social science-related field or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science. Related areas include Anthropology, African-American Studies, English, Linguistics, Psychology, Sociology, and speech and hearing sciences.
  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  •   Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants.

In addition, preferred qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in African American language as achieved through coursework related to African American language, literacy, and culture.
  • Experience with mixed methods research in the humanistic social science tradition.
  • Editorial skills and attention to detail, including a strong command of the APA and LSA citation styles.

The Ph.D. in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation is designed for individuals who are interested in becoming an expert in research methodology, measurement, applied statistics, or program evaluation.

The program targets experienced educators who hold a master’s degree in a related educational field. Career opportunities may be found in a wide variety of educational institutions including higher education, K-12 school districts, for-profit companies, nonprofit agencies, community colleges, think tanks, government organizations, and other institutions concerned with solving problems in education.

Both full-time and part-time students are welcome. Full-time admission is only available in Fall semester, while part-time admission occurs year-round (Fall, Spring, Summer). Full-time students can expect to complete the program within 3-4 years and part-time students within 4-6 years. We offer most courses online and hybrid in the evening to meet student needs. A limited number of courses are offered in summer.

Graduates from our program may find job opportunities in:

Program Objectives

Graduates of the ERME program will demonstrate:

Position Summary

Please note that this position can be filled at Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral level, depending on qualification and experience of the successful candidate.

This role plays a pivotal part in advancing the objectives of the School of Education's HEA PATH funded New Avenues to Teaching Programme, a transformative initiative designed to reshape educational pathways. This pioneering project is intricately woven into the fabric of the National Access Plan (NAP) 2022-2028, a visionary framework aimed at achieving a higher education landscape where diversity thrives. Its core mission is to ensure that our student and graduate teachers mirror the rich tapestry of Ireland's population, fostering an inclusive environment within higher education institutions. By championing equity and diversity, New Avenues to Teaching Programme strives to enhance student success, optimize outcomes, and propel a new generation of educators towards impactful contributions in our communities.

Post Duration: 1 Year

Where to apply

Requirements.

This title will apply to newly qualified Post-Doctoral Researchers and will be considered as a period of training as the researcher will have dual goals in terms of the research project and their own career development.  The researcher will be mentored by a Principal Investigator (PI).  It is expected that a researcher would spend not more than 3 years at the Post Doctoral level, subject to the term of the project and would then be eligible to compete for a Senior Post Doctoral post advertised by the University.

The primary focus of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be research however a particular emphasis during this stage should include:

  • To conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator/Project Leader.
  • To engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the Principal Investigator, School or College in order to develop research skills and competencies.
  • To gain experience in grant writing.
  • To engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which they are engaged, as directed by, with the support of and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator.
  • To become familiar with the publication process.
  • To acquire generic and transferable skills (including project management, business skills and postgraduate mentoring/supervision).
  • To engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of the research group, School or College.
  • To interact closely with research assistants working on the project and to have an agreed role in supervising them in their day to day work in conjunction with the work package lead and PI.
  • To interact closely with postgraduate research students who are studying for a Masters or a PhD and possibly have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day to day research in conjunction with an academic supervisor.
  • To carry out administrative work to support the programme of research.
  • To carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
  • To contribute to costing research grant proposals and assist in the financial management of a research project.
  • A PhD qualification.
  • Appropriate research experience.
  • Appropriate technical competence and accomplishment.
  • A capability of working within a project team to achieve results.
  • Good communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to gaining practical experience working on a research project.
  • Ability to work well within a team.

Doctoral Degree Overview

University of Idaho offers two advanced Education degree programs, the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Differences between the two are explained below. Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)

The Doctor of Education prepares students as professional leaders, educators and practitioner-scholars who actualize the knowledge base in their respective field. Students will:

Create and model ethical evidence-based best practices

Lead organizational change 

Establish a caring and collaborative learning community

Support the principles of teaching and learning practices

Utilize the principles of effective leadership

Develop proficiency utilizing and applying technologies

Evaluate the individual, organizational, and societal contexts of learning

Design research that addresses professional policy issues

Integrate ethical sensitivity toward diversity and social justice in research, teaching and learning

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

The Doctor of Philosophy prepares students as researchers, faculty and/or discipline-based scholars who contribute to the knowledge base of their respective fields. Students will:

Engage in ethical, empirical, theoretical, and/or conceptual inquiry

Develop an active research agenda

Engage in grant-writing, proposal and manuscript preparation and presentations

Develop understanding of pedagogies and content 

Contribute to professional organizations, societies and/or academies

Adult, organizational learning and leadership, ph.d..

A Ph.D. in Adult, Organizational Learning and Leadership will prepare you to lead and teach professional development and training programs as a leader or educator. This doctorate program at the University of Idaho prepares students in a wide range of careers including higher education, business, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Autism Spectrum Disorder & Related Disabilities, Ph.D.

The Ph.D. specialization at the University of Idaho is designed to prepare prospective university faculty and leaders to teach, conduct and disseminate research and secure funding for research in the area of autism spectrum disorder and related disabilities. This highly structured program is designed to accommodate full- and part-time doctoral students both at a distance and on campus, and to produce high-quality leaders that are philosophically oriented toward family involvement, cultural competency, inclusive and multi-tiered supports, evidence-based interventions and research to practice scholarship.

Career and Technical Education, Ph.D. or Ed.D.

This program prepares education professionals for leadership positions in public or private education systems, including K-12 districts and community colleges. The degree is designed for experienced educators who want to perform and apply research to address practical problems relevant to their personal careers and local educational landscapes. As a student in this program, you will lead original dissertation research, likely within the context of your professional work, with a focus primarily on real-world, real-time applications in your local community. Students graduate proficient in program evaluation, case study and action research.

Curriculum and Instruction, Ph.D. or Ed.D.

This program offers opportunities to contribute to national and international conversations surrounding the many complex issues in today’s educational system. This research-oriented program is designed primarily, but not exclusively, for students who want research and/or teaching careers in higher education. As a student in the program, you will design and implement original dissertation research to address a specific problem or issue in the field of education. Your work should lead to publishable articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Students in this program become proficient in advanced statistical and qualitative research methodologies and gain the skills to lead further research in their professional careers in academia.

Educational Leadership, Ph.D. or Ed.D.

A Doctor of Education (Ed.D) or a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree with an educational leadership emphasis is for students who want to learn advanced skills and theories that will help inform and improve research and practice. This degree prepares students to assume positions as research-based faculty members in universities, high-level administrators and analysts in schools, school districts and in state and national-level agencies. The doctorate can also open doors in the private sector as a consultant and CEO.

Exercise Science, Ph.D.

This Ph.D. program prepares you to help advance the field of exercise science through teaching, research and service at universities or other exercise-related institutions. As a student in the program, you will focus your doctoral studies in biomechanics, exercise physiology or sport psychology. You also will lead independent research in the field, with opportunities to conduct performance, physiological or motor-skills tests in the on-campus Human Performance Laboratory which houses the Exercise Physiology Lab and the Biomechanics Lab.

Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), ph.d. or ed.d..

The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences (EHHS) has a specialization in STEM education within its Ph.D. in education. The college focuses on the disciplines within STEM not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these disciplines are deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most effectively.

There are various areas of expertise and experience in EHHS that include but are not limited to:

Moscow city life

Moscow provides offers attractive student life at any cost and time of the day or night. The city is full of clubs, restaurants and bars. Tverskaya Street is also one of the busiest shopping streets in Moscow. Today the city has many of the world's largest nightclubs, bars, creative spaces and restaurants turned into dancefloors.

The city is renowned for their selection of museums, theatres, public libraries, and concert halls. Wonderful art museums are spread throughout the city such as the Tretayakov Gallery, which houses the world's best collection of Russian icons and pre-revolutionary Russian art. Transportation in the city, though often congested, is very efficient. There are a lot of airports and train stations that will make traveling to other cities very simple.

International atmosphere in Moscow

Moscow features a diverse international population coming from countries that made up the past Communist Bloc such as Ukrainians, Tatars, Armenians, Azeri, Moldovans, Belarusians, including other migrants from Central Asia. Moscow is also Russia’s capital of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, but other religions are also practiced including Buddhism, Catholicism, Islam, Judaism, and more, confirming the city’s diversity.

Moscow’s beautiful sites and busy lifestyle has increased the number of international tourists, adding to the city’s international atmosphere. Many universities in Moscow, as well, have tens of thousands of international graduates every year, although you will probably need to speak Russian in order to enrol.

Weather Moscow

Moscow has long, cold winters usually lasting from November to the end of March. Temperatures can fluctuate between the city centre and the suburbs between 5-10°C (41-50°F). Heat waves may occur during summer. Average low temperatures are -10°C(15°F) in February, while average highs reach 24°C (76°F) in July.

The Associate Director for Applied Research and Evaluation is responsible for the development and implementation of the applied research agenda around five focus areas, which undergirds a digital data platform. This position will require the successful candidate to work closely with all units within the Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs (DCA), and the DCA senior team and engage with a cadre of university, health system, and community partners. This position will assist in providing direction, supervision, and coordination of Duke’s Strategic Community Impact Plan’s (SCIP) five focus areas for targeted dissemination: Housing – housing affordability and infrastructure; Education – early childhood and school readiness; Employment – college and career readiness; Health – food security and nutrition; and Community – nonprofit capacity.

The Associate Director will be expected to manage and supervise DCA’s major quantitative and qualitative applied research and evaluation grants and projects from inception to publication and dissemination. The ideal candidate will have expertise in at least one of the SCIP areas of focus and have a background in designing applied research programs and conducting evaluation studies using mixed methods approaches, leading or coordinating complex research projects, and working in a collaborative setting. In addition to managing the office’s applied research endeavors, this position may also participate in select research projects. The ideal candidate will also have experience conceptualizing and preparing briefs, reports, articles, and grant proposals and responding to requests for research-based information. The Associate Director of Research will supervise and mentor a team, inclusive of undergraduate- and graduate-level community applied research assistants.

Work Performed:

  • Develop and implement an overarching vision for an applied research and evaluation agenda for the team aligning with the SCIP and mission of the office.
  • Supervise and coordinate major quantitative and qualitative applied research and evaluation of grants and projects, from inception to dissemination of knowledge on the digital data platform.
  • Supervise and mentor the research team consisting of full-time and bi-weekly staff and student interns.
  • Design, manage, and execute large multi-phase research projects across the SCIP focus areas and relevant to DCA’s mission in collaboration with DCA units, and campus and community partners.
  • Complete and interpret quantitative and statistical analyses on archival data sets.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director for Partnerships and Technical Operations to develop evaluation frameworks, methodologies, and data collection tools, especially for the digital data platform.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director for Advancement to develop evaluation metrics and reporting processes for community grants and sponsorships.
  • Build trusted relationships with campus and community partners and stakeholders by providing high-quality research support.
  • Prepare research and evaluation reports summarizing key findings, conclusions, recommendations, and best practices.
  • Share knowledge and understandings of community assets and community-identified needs.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to internal staff, campus partners, and community partners.
  • File and manage IRB applications.
  • Present and publish research findings on the digital data platform and to other internal and external audiences/
  • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

Minimum Required Qualifications:  

Education/Training

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a master’s degree program.  

Work requires knowledge of both statistical analysis and interpretation generally acquired through at least four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Seeking a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, economics, public health, neuroscience, political science, psychology, statistics, sociology, criminal justice, public policy, or another relevant field. At least three years of experience in research/data analysis or related position, post-graduation from a PhD program. In addition:

  • Deep knowledge of, and experience with quantitative research methods and statistical methods including R or equivalent program/ language (like Stata, SAS, ArcGIS, or Python) to analyze complex datasets.
  • Experience documenting and organizing code to facilitate reproducibility.
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with, social science research methods, including survey methods, and other quantitative research methods.
  • Self-starter, able to define and initiate new projects and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Proven record of primary responsibility for managing and authoring major quantitative research reports and publications.
  • The desire to work with a diverse team and a commitment to racial and social justice, as well as to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong presentation skills, and a strong desire to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring a research team.
  • Familiarity with more than one statistical method.
  • Familiarity with University IRB procedures.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, qualitative research and/or legal research methods.
  • Experience with graphic/visualization programs.

  • Willingness to address issues and take ownership, knowing when and how to escalate issues and concerns.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on data cleaning and basic analysis.

Dr. anne fitzpatrick associate professor.

Dr. Anne Fitzpatrick is an Associate Professor of Development Economics at The Ohio State University's Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics. She received her dual Ph.D. in Economics and Public Policy from the University of Michigan in 2015. Dr. Fitzpatrick's research focuses on health and education in developing countries, particularly issues affecting women and children. She specializes in conducting randomized evaluations aimed at testing policies to improve health care and education quality, with the ultimate goal of improving the well-being of individuals worldwide. Dr. Fitzpatrick has conducted research studies in Ghana, India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Pakistan, and Uganda.

Dr. Marijke Hecht Assistant Professor

Dr. Marijke Hecht is an Assistant Professor of environmental education in the School of Environment and Natural Resources. She works collaboratively with educators, learners, and urban communities on design-based research to understand and develop pathways for people to learn about and care for the natural world we are all a part of. Her interdisciplinary approach to research weaves together environmental education, community-based ecological design, learning sciences, and naturalist practices to explore questions of environmental identity development, environmental literacy about complex ecological issues, and the structure and function of learning ecosystems.

Before entering academia, Dr. Hecht worked in Pittsburgh, PA non-profits to lead two major environmental projects – advocating for the Nine Mile Run aquatic ecosystem restoration, one of the largest urban stream restorations in the U.S., and managing the design and construction of the Frick Environmental Center, a public education and welcome center that is net-zero water and energy and is LEED Platinum and Living Building Challenge certified. She received her M.S. in Botany from the University of Vermont and her Ph.D. in Learning Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Cara Lawson Assistant Professor

Dr. Cara Lawson is an Assistant Professor in agricultural communication whose research focuses on finding ways to better communicate about complex issues in agriculture, science, and natural resources to help create more resilient communities. Toward this effort, Dr. Lawson studies how people seek and process information, and works to better understand factors that influence attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Dr. Lawson received her Ph.D. from Texas Tech University and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Sara Mastellar associate professor

Sara L. Mastellar, PhD, is an Associate Professor who has been at Ohio State ATI since 2017. She is originally from New York state, where she grew up keeping horses on her parents’ dairy farm and participating in Pony Club and 4-H. She earned a BPS in management specializing in Equine Business Management from Cazenovia College, where she also rode on the Intercollegiate Dressage Association team. She then earned her PhD in equine nutrition at the University of Kentucky. After her graduate work she spent three years as the equine instructor at South Dakota State University. In addition to her degrees, she has earned a Graduate Certificate in College Teaching & Learning from the University of Kentucky and completed teaching professional development certificates at both South Dakota and Ohio state universities.

Dr. Mastellar’s research program focuses on supporting undergraduate research and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Undergraduate researchers have been mentored through presentations at Equine Science Society (ESS) meetings and publication of journal articles.

She currently teaches: Introduction to Horse Science, Introduction to Animal Sciences Lab, Basic Horsemanship, Equine Marketing, Equine Facility Management, Equine Nutrition & Feeding, Horse Judging & Evaluation, and Undergraduate Research.

Dr. Lorrayne Miralha Assistant professor

Dr. Lorrayne Miralha recently joined the faculty of FABE-OSU as an Assistant Professor, specializing in Watershed Modeling and Data Analytics. Her research interests encompass a broad range of topics, including water quality modeling, harmful algae blooms, intensified agriculture, forest disturbance, and the development of management and policy solutions for the sustainability of our water resources. Specifically, her research leverages spatial and temporal statistics, GIS technologies, machine learning, and watershed models to improve our understanding of the processes and drivers influencing water quality on multiple scales. Dr. Miralha has secured more than 5 million dollars in funding since joining The Ohio State University, which will support the next generation of scientists and professionals interested in water resources sustainability.

Dr. Asmita Murumkar assistant professor

Dr. Murumkar is an Assistant Professor - ecosystems services field specialist in the Department of Extension and Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at The Ohio State University. Her research areas and outreach programs include Field- and watershed scale modeling of hydrology, water quality, and soil health, Agroecosystem resilience - Ecosystems services (e.g., soil carbon sequestration, soil health, and water quality), Farmer-friendly decision tools, Climate change and land use change, Remote sensing and GIS application in agriculture, Carbon credits, and markets. She is leading a state-wide ecosystem services modeling and stakeholder engagement program to improve water quality, soil health, and crop production. She is working on Farm-to-watershed scale decision tools:

  • USDA Agricultural Conservation Planning Framework (ACPF) for locating in-field and edge-of-field conservation practices,
  • NRCS Stewardship Tool for Environmental Performance (STEP) and COMET FARM/Planner for informing payment for ecosystem services (soil carbon, greenhouse gas emissions, water quality, etc.,),
  • Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model for evaluating effects of Ag conservation practices on water quality and soil health,
  • NOAA’s Ohio Applicator Forecast tool for managing farm nutrient applications based on forecasted risk of runoff.

Dr. Osler Ortez Assistant professor

Dr. Osler Ortez comes from backgrounds in coffee production (Nicaragua), soybean production (Kansas and Argentina), and corn production (Nebraska and the U.S. Midwest). He earned his B.S. degree from Zamorano University in Honduras (2014), his M.S. degree in Agronomy at Kansas State University (2018), and PhD in Agronomy and crop Production at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2021).

In 2022, Osler started as an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University with a 3-way split appointment at the service of the land-grant mission areas with 50% extension, 30% research, and 20% teaching. He leads an applied research and extension program in corn and emerging crop production systems, and he provides leadership and supervision to the Ohio Corn Performance Test, a flagship program with 50+ years of history in CFAES. Additionally, Osler teaches Domestication and Utilization of Agronomic Crops during the Spring semesters. Dr. Ortez's interests and specialization include corn production, emerging crops, organic production, cover crops, and cropping systems. He works with collaborative teams of faculty, extension students, staff, farmers, federal agencies, and industry to develop knowledge and education in crop production.

Dr. Radin Sadre assistant professor

Dr. Radin Sadre is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science and member of the Foods for Health Research Initiative at The Ohio State University. Her interdisciplinary research program focuses on the discovery and biosynthesis of high-value plant natural products for human health and well-being. Dr. Sadre’s team combines omics approaches with genetics, biochemistry, plant metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology with the aim of developing new approaches for the sustainable production of medicines, food, and industrial feedstocks.

Dr. Grazyne Tresoldi assistant professor

Dr. Grazyne Tresoldi is an A ssistant Professor of Animal Welfare Science in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University.  She  was born in a small town in rural Brazil (Campo Erê, Santa Catarina), into a family deeply rooted in food production, particularly in the hospitality and meat industry. However, her passion for companion animals led her to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine. Along the way, she discovered her true calling in the field of dairy cattle, realizing that her mission was to enhance the well-being of farm animals and champion sustainable farming practices.

To pursue this mission, she sought additional professional training in animal behavior and welfare, which granted her the privilege of collaborating with producers and institutions worldwide. This journey brought her to the US, where, prior to joining The Ohio State University, she completed her PhD at the University of California, Davis, and served as an Assistant Professor at California State University, Chico until 2023.

Her research offers significant opportunities to improve dairy cattle welfare, production, and farm sustainability. She is particularly interested in developing strategies to mitigate weather-related risks and identify the barriers and opportunities for implementing improved animal welfare practices. In both the classroom and beyond, she is dedicated to raising awareness and knowledge about food animal welfare among students, educators, and dairy industry allies, equipping them to address challenges in responsible food production. Her goal is to inspire positive change within the food animal industry for the benefit of animals and those who depend on them for sustenance.

Dr. Sam Ward Assistant professor

Dr. Sam Ward started as an Assistant Professor of Forest Entomology at OSU in July 2023. After completing his PhD in Entomology at the University of Minnesota, Sam spent two years as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University. From 2020-2023, he was an Assistant Professor of Insect Ecology in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology, and Plant Pathology at Mississippi State University. Sam’s research group (Landscaped Ecosystem and Forest Entomology Lab; LEAFE Lab) studies the ecology and management of insects that feed on trees. Most projects are aimed at understanding drivers of the arrival, establishment, and spread of non-native insects (invading species and imported biological control agents), with a particular emphasis on mitigating ecological and economic impacts of invaders.

We are accepting applications for the position of Director of Clinical Education for The Physician Assistant Program . The program will be offered on the campus of Rowan College of Jersey in Sewell, NJ, which also houses the Sewell campus of the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine.  The Director of Clinical Education will work closely with program personnel to develop and administer the program in compliance with the standards of the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA). 

The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for the supervision of the clinical education portion of the Physician Assistant Program and reports to the Program Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clinical site development, including locating prospective sites, recruiting sites, and formulating affiliation agreements 
  • Maintain agreements, required individual site requirements, and certificate of liability with placement sites
  • Obtain, file, maintain, review, and update clinical instructional faculty (preceptors) credentials, certifications, licenses, and CVs
  • Develop and implement mechanisms to recognize clinical affiliate participation in program and educational activities
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clinical preceptors
  • Conduct continuous evaluation of clinical sites, preceptors, and clinical year students
  • Develop and coordinate the clinical year SCPE rotation schedule and assign students to clinical placements
  • Provide orientation to the clinical phase of the program for students and new faculty
  • Conduct and document clinical year student evaluations, progress and remediation, including feedback from preceptors
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise didactic learning outcomes and instructional objectives, examinations, and evaluation methodology/tools, including selection of required texts
  • Monitor the receipt of all clinical evaluations and ensure all documents are filed and final grades submitted in a timely manner

  • Participate in regular faculty meetings, retreats, program, college and university committees, and professional organizations
  • Attend local, state, and national conferences and designated programs pertinent to physician assistant education and practice to enhance teaching, management and/or clinical abilities
  • Engage in scholarly activities, community service, and program related grant or research projects

Qualifications

  • Possess a minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited PA program
  • Be NCCPA certified and have or be eligible for current licensure in New Jersey
  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience as a physician assistant in a clinical setting
  • Teaching and administrative experience preferred
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills including good oral and written communication abilities
  • Must have strong organizational skills necessary to develop and implement both short and long-term plans
  • Must be able to oversee multiple different aspects of the clinical curriculum to ensure compliance with ARC-PA standards
  • Must have a familiarity with common office and academic software
