The Homework Club in White City
The Homework Club supports students from year 9 to year 11 at both ends of the ability spectrum to help them reach their potential.
About Homework Club
From supermarket shopping to space travel, mathematics is a critical skill and many qualities are nurtured through the ordered thinking that maths promotes – reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking, critical thinking and problem solving.
Anyone can do maths with suitable training and guidance.
The Homework Club helps students from year 9 to year 11 at both ends of the ability spectrum – those who struggle with or who could excel at maths – to help them be the best they can.
Local students will be given priority, but if places are available, we will consider students who can travel to our Invention Rooms in White City from further afield.
What to expect
The weekly tutoring sessions include homework, coursework and revision support for students, as well as extension tasks for more able students.
- Where : Imperial Invention Rooms, White City
- When : Every Wednesday during term time, from 16.00 – 17.30
Each session is supported by Imperial student tutors - ensuring that all students receive close personalised support - and includes a hot meal. The curriculum content is overseen by Dr Philip Ramsden from the Department of Mathematics.

Make a difference in to your child's attitude towards homework
Why Choose a homework club?
Some children are so self-motivated that they’re able to work undisturbed on homework and disregard the distractions of usual family life, but not every child will find it so easy. Homework is best done in a peaceful place, ideally with assistance from a parent or guardian. If your job, household chores and caring for other children make it complicated to deliver those things you may want to consider the option of a homework club.
How Can We Help?
Based on feedback from our students, we have discovered that homework can be one of the most difficult tasks for children to complete due to lack of concentration following a busy day at school. It is a problem that parents struggle to find a remedy for. There are a number of causes for this. For many families, there is simply not sufficient time during the week to deal with their child’s demanding level of homework. As a result children can then become anxious about meeting the targets for finishing their school homework.
At KLC, we teach in accordance with the National Curriculum. We request children to bring along any Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning or Non Verbal Reasoning homework. Tutors are accessible to work through any difficulties that the child may be experiencing with their homework. Children are presented opportunities to work within a more well defined learning environment, free from distraction and where they feel that they are given the suitable support and guidance.
We cater for a range of ages and requirements
Children work together with the tutor in a small group and when they are self-assured to work independently, they may then do so. Homework is observed and supervised by the tutor but not marked. This allows for the child’s own class teacher to assess how well the child has handled the tasks assigned.

Home-Schooling? These London Museums Offer Free Learning Resources
Last Updated 21 November 2021
Almost a year after the coronavirus pandemic arrived in the UK — disrupting the education of millions of children and young people — families and teachers across the nation are once again getting to grips with remote education.
Whether you're a parent who's struggling to engage a reluctant home learner or a teacher on the hunt for fresh lesson plan inspiration, some of London's biggest cultural institutions may just be able to help. Read on to see what sort of learning resources are on offer from the likes of the British Library, the Science Museum and many more.
Natural History Museum
A homework club has just been launched by National History Museum, which sees expert educators share a new activity every weekday via a Twitter video (though if you're not a fan of the little blue bird, you can also access each activity here ). This week's theme is dinosaurs, with tasks spanning art, poetry and — unsurprisingly — natural history. The museum has not provided a suggested age range but, looking at existing resources, the club seems suitable for primary school pupils.
Parents and teachers: today we launch our #NHMHomeworkClub . Let's start by discussing the most important question of all! What is a dinosaur🦖? Join Connor and Tom as they explore this question and then head to our quiz to test yourself! ➡️ https://t.co/ENV0RLtOcf pic.twitter.com/I1r13FsL45 — NHM Learning (@NHM_Learn) January 11, 2021
Aside from the homework club, a variety of lesson plans, activity sheets and virtual talks on science and ecology can be found here .
Science Museum
Struggling to get a student excited about STEM? Challenge them to create gravity-defying water or a fizzy fountain — just two of the experiments available on the Science Museum website. Here you'll also find fun mathematics games and videos from the museum's galleries that cater from Ks1 all the way up to KS5.
Horniman Museum and Gardens
The Horniman is frequently hailed as one of London's most child-friendly museums, so it's only fitting that it boasts a wealth of downloadable educational resources on global cultures, past and present (there are loads on Ancient Egypt, for example). The museum website also claims to offer bespoke virtual sessions for KS1 and KS2, which students can connect to via Zoom.
British Library
British Library's learning resources are handily categorised by subject, so you can find materials related to English, history, religious studies, and citizenship with ease. Highlights include its Windrush Stories series, an audio poetry library, and Discover Children's Books , where you can find writing prompts, author interviews, and fairy tales from around the world.
Imperial War Museum
Imperial War Museums brings history to life via its Home Learning Hub . Here you'll find a new Family Mission each week — from learning Morse Code to making a binbag parachute. For older kids, there's tons of material on both world wars, including some tailored to GCSE students.
Museum of London
The Museum of London has won awards for the quality of its learning programmes and boasts a ton of educational resources spanning English, history, citizenship, PSHE, science, geography and archaeology. Filter by topic, historical era, or education level and discover a wealth of multimedia resources including games, 3D objects and films. We particularly like the look of this prehistoric explorer interactive map and, for older kids, this exploration of London's LGBT history.

Ok, so this one might not be a museum. But this after school club for south Londoners aged 11-14 sounds like an absolute dream for young gamers (not to mention a godsend for parents trying to pry them away from the Xbox). The club runs every Thursday, and topics include 3D modelling, coding, and game development.
The British Museum
The British Museum is currently offering free live interactive workshops for school children aged 7-11 that cover various aspects of the history curriculum — from myth-busting Ancient Egypt to Greek temples. Aside from these, you can find curriculum-based classroom resources for teachers of all ages up to KS5.

The 12 best London coworking spaces
Share this:
Places to call home for the day
Photography: Nicholas Worley
It’s almost 40 years since Dolly Parton derided the idea of working ‘9 to 5’ and it seems that Londoners have finally got the message. With the self-employed set to overtake the public sector for the first time, and even those in regular employment working more flexibly than ever, traditional offices are in decline. There’s only so long anyone can coffee-shop-hop, so a new breed of work spaces is stepping up to meet the demand. Combining the benefits of café culture, members clubs and serviced offices, these 12 London coworking spaces offer something for everyone.
Soho Works Shoreditch
Soho Works is the coworking arm of members club Soho House , created for ‘people that want dedicated workspace and also appreciate Soho House’s design, functionality, friendly service and attention to detail,’ says creative director Tanya Wood. Expect vintage and contemporary furniture, including Victorian dining tables, mid-century sideboards and chandeliers. Its 16,000 sq ft space inside the Tea Building is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and offers a café and concierge desk. Soho Works also pops up at 180 The Strand during London Fashion Week, offering the fashion pack a dedicated place to work (free of charge) between the shows. Next up is a Soho Works LA, coming soon.
Best for: Those upgrading from laptop-working in a members club TEA Building, 56 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JJ
The Ministry, Southwark
Media and music industry workers can find themselves a south London home at this refurbished Victorian printworks, opened by the Ministry of Sound. As well as the usual meeting rooms and desk spaces, the London coworking space offers a few extra touches – including an on-site recording studio and a tequila bar in the ladies toilet. Refurbished by local studio Squire & Partners , The Ministry is all exposed brick and metal beams, harking back to the building’s industrial past.
Best for: Music industry members looking for collaborators 79-81 Borough Road, London, SE1 1DN
Mortimer House, Fitzrovia
Until its recent renovation , the marble mosaics, plaster mouldings and terracotta ceilings of this seven-storey block had been hidden beneath unassuming office interiors. New York architecture studio AvroKO has lovingly restored Mortimer House’s Art Deco details, turning it into a London coworking space with a focus on hospitality and wellness. Members can order ‘room service’ to their desks, relax in a Mad Men style fifth floor lounge, and enjoy access to yoga and fitness classes. There’s even a meditation room for those extra stressful days.
Best for: Wellness fanatics Swan Court, Mortimer Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1T 3JH
The AllBright, Fitzrovia
This all-female coworking club inhabits a converted Georgian townhouse, and offers desk space as well as a place for women to meet up and collaborate. The interiors are about as far away from the classic corporate office as you can get, and are replete with velvet sofas, wooden floors and wall hangings. As well as a programme of on-site events, The AllBright has its own fitness studio, as well as a beauty and treatment room.
Best for: Women entrepreneurs who want to network 11 Rathbone Place, London, W1T 1HR
De Beauvoir Block, Hackney
Dominated by pastel pink and filled with plants, this coworking space is sure to appeal to anyone looking for an office upgrade. It’s a more relaxed option than many other shared London coworking workspaces, with cane chairs and velvet sofas dotted about for casual meetings. There’s a downstairs boardroom for those all-important conference calls, as well as a cafe for lunchtime – stocked, of course, with rose-tinted teapots and tableware. With casual memberships starting at £100 a month, it’s also a slightly cheaper option than some of central London’s coworking clubs. Take a closer look at De Beauvoir Block .
Best for: Anyone that still loves millennial pink 92-96 De Beauvoir Road, London, N1 4EN
Fora Central Street
Fora (plural of ‘forum’) takes inspiration from the hospitality industry. Its Clerkenwell location, a collaboration between Fora and Studio RHE, was the first of an ambitious programme of 20 London launches over three to five years. Says so-founder Enrico Sanna: ‘Our professional spaces and concierge service increase productivity and encourage collaboration.’
Best for: Jetsetters looking for an upgrade from hotel lobbies 71 Central Street, London EC1V 8AB
Campus London
Always fancied working at Google? Well now you can. Google Campus might not have a slide but it offers co-working spaces designed by Jump Studios , equipped with a Lego-clad reception desk and an ‘inspiration wall’. Expert speakers, networking events and mentoring from Google staff help fledgling business grow.
Best for: Tech startups with a thing for Lego 4-5 Bonhill Street, London EC2A 4BX
Central Working
‘Their offices are cool, but it’s also a place where you get stuff done,’ says one resident of Central Working, which now has seven London bases including a space on Clerkenwell Road. Collaboration is a big part of productivity, and networking is such an important element of this space that they’ll give you your money back if you don’t make a ‘meaningful connection’ in the first 30 days.
Best for: Start-ups hoping to meet likeminded people 86-88 Clerkenwell Road, London EC1M 5RJ
The Office Group at the Shard
Claiming to have pioneered the concept of the shared workspace in Britain when they launched in 2003, The Office Group now has 33 London coworking spaces. The most dramatic location has to be the 24th and 25th floors of The Shard – if only for those views. Members can use any of its sites, which will soon include hubs in Waterloo Station and Hammersmith’s Lyric Square – both opening in Spring 2019
Best for: People who need the flexibility to work across London The Shard, 24/25, 32 London Bridge St, London SE1 9SG
WeWork Southbank
Coworking giant WeWork has 39 locations in the capital that are either open now or coming soon, but its London ventures started at Sea Containers house on the Southbank. A communal penthouse with views across the Thames, bicycle storage, showers and a pet-friendly policy all conspire to create a relaxed vibe that’s almost like working from home.
Best for: Pet-loving people who keep a dog under their desk 22 Upper Ground, London SE1 9PD
Forge & Co
‘Eating out at lunchtime is often where you have your best ideas as a team,’ says Forge & Co director Steve Beale. ‘In today’s “always on” culture, it’s important to get a change of atmosphere during the working day.’ Dining is at the heart of Forge & Co’s coworking spaces, which encourage people to reclaim the lunch hour by offering nourishing salads, pasta and grilled meat and fish.
Best for: Those of us who get so busy we forget to eat 154-158 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6HU
Makerversity
Makerversity at Somerset House is a London coworking space for designers, markers and start-ups. It includes access to all of the tools and machines (think 3D printers, CNC-cutters etc) you need to bring your ideas to life. Nearby Somerset House Studios also offers residencies to a curated selection of artists and makers.
Best for: Makers who need access to machinery Somerset House, Victoria Embankment, West Goods Entrance, London WC2R 1LA
