These scoring materials indicate what knowledge and skills students must demonstrate to earn each score point. English Language Arts constructed-response (short-response) questions for grades 3 and 4 are scored using a rubric, scoring notes, and student responses. Constructed-response rubrics are worth up to 3 score points per item.

If scorer X met the expected scoring rate of 60 papers per hour, at an embedded rate of 3% for math items, scorer X would expect to score 12 validity papers within that 6.5 productive hour day. On the 3rd day of live scoring validity papers will be embedded for MCAS items at a rate of 4% for ELA and 2% for Math items.
The annotations that accompany each sample response are specific to that response.
