With OneDrive for Business, every person can easily store, access, and share their work files in their personal online storage space in the cloud. OneDrive for Business storage is provisioned on a per user basis and is designed to serve the needs of individual users.

Storage of data other than an individual's personal work files, including system back-ups and departmental and organizational level data, is not supported, nor is the assignment of a per user license to a bot, department, or other non-human entity. SharePoint is the best solution for more advanced content management and collaboration, including storing and managing files, communications, and intranet sites across a team or organization.

OneDrive is one of the most popular cloud storage platforms available, and as you can see in our OneDrive review , it’s one of the best cloud storage options available. OneDrive for Business is equally impressive, earning a spot alongside some tough competition in our best business cloud storage guide. In this OneDrive for Business review, we’re going to explain why.

The short of it is that Microsoft includes a lot of functionality for very little money. Because of the native integration with Office 365, OneDrive for Business is a compelling offer for businesses willing to work in Microsoft’s ecosystem. If you want to choose the software your business uses, though, there are better options; our favorite is Egnyte (read our Egnyte Connect review ).

Although other cloud storage solutions can play the role of a business hub with third-party integrations, OneDrive for Business offers everything you need through Microsoft’s suite of Office applications. That makes OneDrive a great value, and the applications within the ecosystem work well together. However, it also means that you don’t have a lot of choice in the business apps you use.

Office 365 for All

As we’ll get to in the next section, Microsoft clearly wants you to use its productivity apps. For example, the OneDrive Business Plan 1 is $5.00 per user per month, and it only includes OneDrive. Office 365 Basic is the same price with an annual commitment, except it includes OneDrive in addition to Microsoft’s other productivity apps.

Microsoft Office 365 is the center of the ecosystem, and OneDrive is just a part of it. Thankfully, Microsoft’s productivity apps are world class. Outlook is great for email — though short of a fully encrypted email application — and the suite of Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote ) have been staples of small business and enterprise outlets for decades. 

Because OneDrive is simply a part of the larger ecosystem, everything works seamlessly with your cloud storage solution. You can easily share files or folders with others in your business, sure, but also collaborate in real time with the Office 365 suite.

In addition to Office apps, Microsoft includes other services, like Microsoft SharePoint for web-based collaboration, and Teams, for keeping in contact with your coworkers. You can read SharePoint vs OneDrive comparison guide to learn more about these Microsoft products.

Frankly, the Office lineup of apps is second to none. Google Drive gets close with its range of productivity apps, but Microsoft still reigns supreme. The only thing missing from the lineup is a project management app (outside of Trello ), and unfortunately, you can’t solve that problem through third-party integrations. 

Slim Integrations

Cloud storage services that use server-side encryption usually do so to pave the way for third-party integrations (Box Business and Dropbox Business are two good examples of that). OneDrive has integrations but, as mentioned, Microsoft wants you using its own lineup of applications.

There aren’t many integrations. For example, Trello and Wrike are the only options for project management integration (we would’ve liked to see monday.com and Asana , too).

Compared to Box and similar services, Microsoft’s lineup of applications is slim. That’s because you have everything you need with the included Microsoft products. However, if you want to try out other office applications, you won’t be able to do so within OneDrive.

Although slim, OneDrive’s list of integrations isn’t barren. Vimeo integration allows you to upload video files from your drive with just a few clicks, and Autodesk support allows you to connect and share AutoCAD files through OneDrive. Microsoft includes a document signing tool in the form of DocuSign, as well as OneLogin for single sign-on, too.

The problem is that Microsoft includes only one or two integrations for each category. The lineup isn’t lacking — you have everything you need, small business or large. However, you don’t have the same choice in the apps your business uses compared to services like Box and Egnyte.

Powered by Azure

OneDrive for Business is powered by Microsoft’s Azure network. Azure is a global network on the scale of Amazon Web Services , hosting everything from OneDrive to Xbox’s Game Pass cloud streaming. We recommend reading our Microsoft Azure review if you want a full breakdown of the network.

There’s one key upside for OneDrive: because of the size of Azure, Microsoft is able to host your data in a decentralized way. That includes storing copies of your data for redundancy, but also separating your encrypted data from the encryption keys (we’ll talk more about that in the “security” section below).

OneDrive for Business Features Overview

Pricing: onedrive for business.

OneDrive for Business is one of the cheapest enterprise cloud storage solutions on the market. Compared to more expensive services like Tresorit, OneDrive is clearly a deal (read our Tresorit review for more). However, it also matches our other go-to recommendation for businesses on a budget: Sync.com (read our Sync.com for Teams review ).

• Price per user, Unlimited storage, User count: 1 – 99+

If you’re just interested in OneDrive, there are two options: Plan 1 and Plan 2 (we don’t make the names, folks). Between them, there are only two main differences. 

Plan 1 comes with 1 TB of storage per user, while Plan 2 comes with “unlimited” storage (there are limits, technically, though you’ll probably never hit them). Plan 2 also comes with features like file auditing and data retention, both of which are absent from Plan 1. 

Just so we’re clear, the limits kick in once subscribers with five or more users hit 1TB of storage per user. Microsoft will continue to increase that limit up to 25TB per user, at which point it’ll start handing out storage as 25TB SharePoint team sites to individual users.

It’s hard to justify either of those plans, though. Microsoft 365 Business Basic is the same price as OneDrive Plan 1, and Business Standard is only slightly more expensive than Plan 2. Both include some of Office 365. Microsoft clearly wants you in its ecosystem, and like Google, is willing to slash prices to get you hooked (read our Google Drive review to see this playbook in action).

The pricing shows that Microsoft wants you to purchase a 365 bundle, but Microsoft goes further. Unlike the OneDrive for Business pricing, the 365 plans allow you to sign up month-to-month, and you can try out Business Standard for free for one month (something that isn’t present on any of the other plans).

Microsoft 365 Business

Both Microsoft 365 Business plans come with more Microsoft apps. The Basic plan is restrictive, with Microsoft Teams, Exchange, and SharePoint, along with the web versions of Office apps, while the Standard plan includes everything, including desktop versions of Office apps.

If you need advanced security and deployment features, there’s Microsoft 365 Business Premium, too. At $20 per user per month, it’s pricey. However, with remote access wipe and data loss prevention measures, it’s worth it.

When it comes to price and storage, no one beats OneDrive, and only a small handful of services match it (Sync.com among them). Box Business is around the same price, though with far less storage space, and although pCloud Business is close, it’s still more expensive than OneDrive.

We do have one issue with Microsoft 365 Business Standard. Unlike OneDrive for Business Plan 2, which includes unlimited storage, Business Standard caps you at 1TB. We expected to see the unlimited storage feature on Business Standard as well, as it’s Microsoft’s flagship offering. If you need unlimited storage, give MEGA or Dropbox Business a look.

Ease of Use

As cloud management software, the OneDrive for Business desktop app is a little thin. You can manage a few settings, such as choosing a bandwidth limit when you upload and download files from the cloud. Overall, though, the OneDrive app is mainly there to allow you to quickly see your files from the taskbar.

We’ll talk more about syncing and sharing in the next section. For this section, know that Microsoft makes OneDrive very easy to use. Sharing and moving files around is as intuitive as using Windows File Explorer. Even compared to providers like Egnyte , OneDrive integrates seamlessly into your desktop experience.

However, the desktop experience is light. As we’ll get to in the next section, there are a few options for sharing and syncing. Most of your time with OneDrive on desktop, though, will be spent editing the files stored in your account, not configuring the service. If you’re an admin, you’ll need the web app for that.

You can do quite a bit more with the web application, including creating shared libraries for various users on your team. You can automate tasks in the web app, too, which we’ll get to in a moment. 

As mentioned in the “features” section above, Office 365 is the center of the ecosystem, so you have quick access to the various other services included with an Office 365 Business Premium subscription (or whatever plan you choose). Among them, the most important option is “admin.”

There’s a lot in the admin center, from settings for Azure Active Directory to SharePoint. For OneDrive, the two most important are “users” and “groups.” When you add a new user, you can manage their access to what’s stored in your account. Once you have your users set, you can organize them into groups, too.

That’s standard fare for any cloud storage service, but Microsoft goes further. Your users and groups work across your entire subscription. That means you can choose which products your users have access to, how they’re organized in Microsoft Teams and more. The level of control is, frankly, unmatched. 

Thankfully, there are a few ways to automate user management (as well as various other tasks in your Office 365 account). First, you can create user templates to make onboarding simple, and even add multiple users at once. Additionally, admins can set roles for users, reset passwords and more, all from the admin center. 

OneDrive Business really comes into its own with Power Automate, which is essentially a Visual Basic scriptor. Using a flowchart, you can connect Microsoft’s own applications with any integrations you have to automate various tasks. Microsoft includes a massive library of templates to get started, but you can create your own, too.

For example, there’s a template for automatically saving Outlook email attachments to your OneDrive account. That’s a simple example, but the possibilities are almost endless. Once you’ve set up your automated system, you can view analytics and troubleshoot them. Even better, Power Automate is never more than a few clicks away with Microsoft’s ecosystem. 

File Sharing & Syncing

OneDrive syncing works in the same way as Dropbox . Once you sign up for a OneDrive for Business Plan, you’ll be prompted to download a OneDrive application, as well as deploy the same application for all of your employees. From there, users can upload files into OneDrive using the folder the application creates. 

Everything syncs automatically, but files don’t automatically take up space on your computer. Files can either be available only when you’re online, available offline as long as you’re editing or available offline all the time. We like the middle option most, as you can download and edit files stored in OneDrive temporarily, then free up space on your hard drive when you’re done.

If for some reason your files don’t automatically sync, you can always manually sync them using the OneDrive web application. Additionally, OneDrive for Business supports block-level sync . With block-level sync, you don’t need to reupload an entire file whenever you make changes to it. Rather, OneDrive will only update the changes inside your file storage.

Sharing Is Simple

File sharing is just as simple. Once you’ve created a sync folder, simply right-click on a file in that folder and select “share.” You can share internally with other users on your account, or generate a link to share externally. Additionally, you can set a password and expiration date for the shared link. 

OneDrive for Business allows you to request external files, too. You can click on any folder in your account to generate a file upload link, then automatically email that link. Users outside of your network can use it to upload files, all without having access to your OneDrive account.

To test OneDrive’s speed, we used a 1GB test folder filled with various file types like photos, movies, text documents and more. We uploaded and downloaded the file twice, then averaged the results. Before running the tests, we measured our internet connection speed at 450 Mbps download and 19 Mbps upload on a hardwired connection.

With those speeds, we’d expect an average download time of 18 seconds and an average upload time of seven minutes and 32 seconds.

Thankfully, OneDrive doesn’t stray too far from those numbers. Our average upload clocked in at seven minutes and 43 seconds, just 11 seconds longer than our expected time. The gap is even shorter with our download time results, with OneDrive averaging nine seconds longer than our expected result. 

That’s not too surprising, though, especially compared to other cloud storage platforms that use server-side encryption (read our Icedrive review for an example). OneDrive simply doesn’t have to deal with the level of overhead of a service with client-side encryption. 

We’re giving OneDrive high marks for speed — it earned them. However, with Microsoft’s Azure network powering the service, the speeds aren’t surprising. OneDrive is fast. However, it’s no faster than Google Drive and Dropbox . 

Security & Privacy

Microsoft OneDrive for Business doesn’t have a zero-knowledge encryption model, but it has something close. Instead, Microsoft employs a “zero-standing access” policy. In short, this policy means that engineers can only access your account if it relates to a specific request. Microsoft even goes so far as to segment engineers into access levels, and all but one of them are separated from your data. 

To be clear, these clearances are only granted in response to something, so Microsoft can’t poke around in your account whenever. Still, it’s worth keeping in mind that OneDrive Business is hosted in the U.S., which has some privacy implications (we’ll get to those soon).

As for encryption, Microsoft uses industry-standard 256-bit AES for data at rest (read our description of encryption for more). In transit, Microsoft protects your data with an SSL/TLS channel using 2048-bit keys. When it comes to the encryption practices on OneDrive for Business, everything checks out. 

It’s how Microsoft stores your data that stands out. As mentioned, OneDrive Business uses Microsoft’s Azure servers for file hosting, and Microsoft has a lot of Azure servers available.

The security model takes advantage of the breadth of servers available to OneDrive Business, separating your data and encryption keys and storing them on physically separated servers. Microsoft also copies your encrypted data across multiple servers for redundancy.

OneDrive also doubles up on encryption. In addition to encrypting every file in your account individually, Microsoft also encrypts the disk your file is stored on using BitLocker. BitLocker sits among the best encryption software , and it’s a standard feature in Windows 10 . It’s nice to see the same tech at work in the data center.

The Privacy Dilemma

Privacy is a sticky situation for Microsoft, and not for the same reasons as Dropbox . Microsoft is respectful of user privacy, at least compared to Google Drive and similar services. However, as a company based in the U.S., Microsoft is part of the Five Eyes and is still required to comply with law enforcement under the CLOUD Act . 

Microsoft is doing its part, though. Like all web hosting and cloud storage services, Microsoft collects data about you and the users on your account. However, the terms of use prohibit Microsoft for using this data for user profiling, advertising and market research purposes.

Additionally, Microsoft offers a global network of servers to its OneDrive Business customers, so you can choose where your files in the cloud are hosted. In fact, Microsoft defended a user against a U.S. search warrant for data hosted outside of the U.S. Even better, Microsoft won .

Microsoft even extends GDPR to users around the world. Compared to other cloud-based services, OneDrive is certainly on the right side of the privacy problem. However, you still have to take Microsoft at its word. More so than other cloud storage solutions, Microsoft is transparent in how it collects and uses your data.

Without client-side encryption, though, there isn’t a clear separation between Microsoft and your data. The zero-standing access privacy policy helps with that problem a little bit, and given how fast and convenient OneDrive is, it’s a reasonable tradeoff. However, it’s not as safe as a proper zero-knowledge model like Tresorit offers.

Customer Service

OneDrive for Business comes stocked with a robust support system. However, Microsoft’s approach is mostly hands-off. Support starts in your OneDrive admin center. There, under “health,” you’ll find the “service health” page. In addition to checking server status, the service health page also has any advisories or alerts that might be impacting your service. 

It sounds small, but Microsoft keeps a detailed history of widespread issues on the service health page. You can also report an issue directly on the service health page, contributing to other businesses’ health reports. 

As far as solving problems, Microsoft has an impressive knowledgebase, though most of the articles are targeted at Microsoft’s personal products.

Business admins need Microsoft Docs. As a business admin, you have access to an encyclopedic library of technical documentation, not only covering Microsoft’s consumer- and business-facing products, but also the services that power those products.

That includes everything from practical deployment guides to dense technical documentation about utilizing Microsoft’s various APIs. The document center is Microsoft’s services on paper. Outside of troubleshooting, it provides everything you could ever want to know, not only about OneDrive, but about everything Microsoft does.

Admin Center

Although it’s clear Microsoft wants you to use its self-help resources — it makes them worth using — there are contact options available. In the admin center, you can find help under the “support” tab. Microsoft offers support over the phone and by email.

When you create a service request, you first have to search for your problem amid Microsoft’s documentation — or use an A.I.-driven live chat, which accomplishes the same thing.

If your problem isn’t solved, you can put in a request for someone to contact you by phone or email. Microsoft even provides estimates for how quickly you’ll get a response for each. You can also attach up to five files to your request and view a filterable log of your previous requests.

It’s hard for the support system to feel cohesive across the board, though. With so many business and personal services — and a lot of overlap between them — it’s a feat that Microsoft manages to organize its support system at all. 

The support system works well, and with its scale, it’s extremely impressive. You just have to know where to go. Trying to work through Microsoft’s support chain outside of the admin center is an exercise in patience.

The Verdict

OneDrive for Business is an objectively great deal. For less than $15 per user per month, you not only get access to a robust cloud storage platform, but also Microsoft’s entire ecosystem of business applications. There are tiered discounts, so company size may be a small issue. Overall, though, OneDrive for Business is a great value .

It’s not perfect, though. There are cheaper options if all you’re looking for is storage, and some of them even offer client-side encryption. It’s a difference in approach, so we’re not knocking OneDrive for Business here. However, that difference in approach may not align with what your business needs.

The evolution of OneDrive storage

The OneDrive for Business (Plan 2) and Microsoft 365 Business plans include advanced data loss prevention, data retention, eDiscovery, sensitivity labels, and compliance offerings. The Microsoft 365 Business plans include Office integration, email and calendaring, and teamwork and communication features. Administrators can increase storage capacity to 5TB per user and then request additional storage up to 25TB per user by contacting Microsoft Support. SharePoint team sites can be provisioned for storage if a user needs more than 25TB.

What can you store on OneDrive?

As a user, you can store photos, documents, videos and practically all file types in OneDrive.

All Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans and Business storage plans support file sizes up to 100GB. In January 2021,  Microsoft announced  that the supported file size was increased to 250GB. General availability for 250GB file size is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2021.

OneDrive supports up to 50,000 major versions and 511 minor versions.

OneDrive allows storage of almost all file names and file types. The exceptions are listed below in the limitations.

Limitations:

• Characters that aren’t allowed in file and folder names in OneDrive for home, OneDrive for work or school and SharePoint in Microsoft 365 are: ” * : < > ? / \ |
• Leading and trailing spaces in file or folder names also aren’t allowed.
• These names aren’t allowed for files or folders: .lock, CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM0 – COM9, LPT0 – LPT9, _vti_, desktop.ini, any filename starting with ~$.
• Temporary TMP files will not be synced to OneDrive.
• Outlook .PST files are supported; however, they are synced less frequently compared to other file types to reduce network traffic.

Technically, there are very few limitations with OneDrive storage. OneDrive users should also consider the Code of Conduct in the  Microsoft Services Agreement . Many of these rules are practical and common sense. A few of the rules are listed below for reference.

i. Don’t do anything illegal. ii. Don’t engage in any activity that exploits, harms, or threatens to harm children. iii. Don’t send spam or engage in phishing. v. Don’t engage in activity that is fraudulent, false or misleading viii. Don’t infringe upon the rights of others ix. Don’t engage in activity that violates the privacy of others. x. Don’t help others break these rules.

How do I add storage to OneDrive?

OneDrive Home storage plan users can purchase additional storage online within their existing plan. A Microsoft 365 plan provides the best value for storage and allows an individual user to increase storage up to 2TB.

Microsoft provides premium OneDrive plans to increase storage for individual users. To increase to a Premium OneDrive storage plan, click on the Premium OneDrive button in OneDrive Online.

The Microsoft 365 Family plan details will then be displayed. You can then scroll down to view plan options and add more storage.

Business storage plans are managed by the organization’s administrators. As stated earlier, administrators can increase OneDrive storage capacity to 5TB per user and then request additional storage up to 25TB per user by contacting Microsoft support.

The seamless integration of OneDrive into Microsoft 365 has helped OneDrive become a premier enterprise-grade platform for working with, storing, and sharing content. When it comes to OneDrive storage specifics, Microsoft provides several OneDrive plans to choose from for both home and business use. Home storage plans provide up to 2TB max storage per person. Business storage plans on the other hand provide up to 25TB max storage per person. Both plans provide for configuration options to increase storage as needed. There are very few limitations for what can be stored on the OneDrive service. The Code of Conduct section in the Microsoft Service Agreement provides a set of rules and regulations you can reference for how the OneDrive service should be used.

Google drive vs. microsoft onedrive: which is best.

They both have their pros and cons.

There are many online storage solutions for you to choose between, but Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive are two of the most commonly used options, both for personal users and in the workplace. Let's explore some of the key metrics, so you can decide which one will work best for you.

If you're basing your storage choice purely on what they offer for free, Google Drive is probably the one you need. Compared to OneDrive's 5 GB of free storage, Google Drive gives you 15 GB. However, either way, you're likely to fill up that capacity quite quickly.

It's certainly worth noting that Google Drive's cloud storage is the same as your Google Photos storage, which is the default cloud storage solution on Pixels and most other Android brands. This is fine if you change your backup quality to Storage Saver or High-Quality , as these take up less Google storage than originally-sized photos and videos. But if you don't, you'll find your storage space being eaten up quite quickly, especially if you shoot in RAW.

So, to get more storage, you might consider one of the paid subscriptions.

We will compare the monthly prices, as many people choose this as a more affordable option. However, whether you opt for Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, you'll pay less overall if you go for the annual subscription.

Which package you go for entirely depends on how much space you need and how much you're willing to pay. If you only need 100GB, Microsoft and Google's plans cost the same, at $1.99 a month. It's when you look at the next level up that things start to change.

Google Drive's Standard package comes in at $2.99 a month for 200 GB, but OneDrive offers 1 TB (five times more than what you get with Google) for $6.99 (just over twice the price) as part of its Microsoft 365 Personal package, meaning you get all the other Microsoft perks included, such as the desktop apps. This is the option that I've taken , and I've never run out of storage.

Google also offers 2 TB for $9.99, and whether this is good value compared to OneDrive depends on how many people you want to add to your Microsoft 365 Family plan. Because you get 1 TB per person for up to six people for $9.99, it's definitely more cost-effective than Google Drive if you fulfill its user capacity.

Verdict —Google Drive is better if you don't want to spend anything, and OneDrive is better for mid-level pricing or if you want multiple users on one account in your family.

Since they are both designed to do fundamentally the same thing as each other, their browser interfaces are very similar. Both Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive let you switch between list and type layouts, but if you want a super-condensed layout, you can get this on OneDrive and not on Google Drive.

Both systems also have an all-important Recent folder in the menu on the left, which usefully updates automatically to give you quick access to the files and folders you worked on most recently.

Verdic t —Other than OneDrive's condensed layout option (I'm not convinced many people choose this anyway), there's not much difference between the two.

Alongside the Recent folders, another important time-saver is an effective search function. Maybe unsurprisingly, given Google's experience in online searches, Google Drive's search function is way ahead of OneDrive's.

On Google Drive, you can narrow down your search to very specific conditions, such as the type of file or folder, the people who have collaborated, when the item was last modified, and the location of the file or folder.

On the other hand, OneDrive's search bar is much simpler. You can apply filters to your search results, but that still leaves fewer refining options than Google Drive's search.

Verdict —On Google Drive, you can search using much more specific parameters, and while you can filter your search results on OneDrive, having the options before you search makes more sense and allows for a more logical experience.

Ultimately, if you're used to Google Suite, you'll probably enjoy the cross-program integration that Google Drive offers, whether that be your Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, or Google Slides. That said, anyone using a Windows computer might find OneDrive more usable. If you're signed in on your Windows computer, you'll automatically have OneDrive ready to go, and if you're a Microsoft 365 subscriber, your documents will start uploading as soon as you've saved them. Whichever you choose, both Google Drive and OneDrive support most operating systems.

If you're using Google Workspace, you have the benefit of integration with many well-known apps, something Microsoft has yet to achieve on OneDrive, with only a handful of third-part app partnerships.

OneDrive's sync speed is much quicker, however, as it uses block-level copying, which only updates changes made since the last sync. It also breaks down the data into smaller chunks when syncing, rather than trying to upload large files in one go.

When it comes to mobile integration, Google Drive and OneDrive both offer good mobile apps with easy file access and organization.

What's more, you can access both Google Drive and OneDrive without an internet connection, and they will both re-sync next time you're connected.

Verdict —As a Windows user and Microsoft 365 Personal subscriber, I find that using OneDrive works best for me, as I enjoy its quick alignment with everything I do on my computer, and it also supports transferring to a new Windows PC . If you prefer Google Suite, you'll probably find using Google Drive less of a headache, and it coordinates well with many third-party apps.

Maybe one of the most important factors for you when considering which storage platform to use is its security and privacy. Both use two-step authentication to make sure that you're who you say you are when logging in to your account, and both offer data encryption.

Where both fall short is that you don't get the benefit of end-to-end encryption. End-to-end encryption means that your file is converted to an encrypted key as soon as it's uploaded, and stays in that same key until someone at the other end (such as someone you've sent a file to) picks it up and opens it. Instead, Google Drive and OneDrive both encrypt your files in transit and at rest. This means that your data is protected as it's being uploaded or if it's sitting in your folder, but not during the whole journey from one server to another with the same encryption key. Ultimately, your data is more likely to be accessible without end-to-end encryption, so both Google Drive and OneDrive leave you open to this potential.

Disappointingly, the bad news doesn't stop there. Neither OneDrive nor Google Drive use zero-knowledge encryption, which means that the app developer can access your files if they so wish. Yes, you might think that there are billions of files and folders out there, so why would they want to access your stuff? That comes down to how much you can trust these big tech firms and their employees to respect your privacy.

Where OneDrive might be preferable is in its Personal Vault , which is a folder specifically designed with an extra layer of security for your important documents, such as your passport or Driving License. It also times out after a period of inactivity. Google Drive's answer to this is to let you easily limit who can access certain files and folders, but this is nowhere near as secure as Microsoft's Personal Vault.

Verdict —Let's be honest—neither platform is great for privacy, but OneDrive's Personal Vault tips the balance due to the added layer of security it offers for some of your more important documents.

Whether you want to share a folder or file on Google Drive or OneDrive, both programs let you choose what levels of access you give to the person or people receiving it. You can decide whether others can view or edit what you've shared, and you can also decide whether the link you send is accessible to all or only by the people you've shared it with.

Because Google is more of a predominantly online platform than Microsoft, all its apps, including Google Drive, offer seamless in-program sharing and more responsive real-time collaboration. This means you can easily share or collaborate on anything with others, especially those within your organization. The process on Google Drive is more instant than on OneDrive, but both work essentially the same way.

Where OneDrive prevails is with the sharing security if offers, with options to add passwords and link expiration dates to the items you're sharing.

Verdict —Google Drive's user experience during sharing and collaboration is smoother, but OneDrive lets you add passwords and expiration dates to shared links.

Ultimately, which one you choose depends on what you want to use it for. I find my subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal and the perks that come with that mean that I doubt I'll ever use Google Drive again. While OneDrive and Google Drive are probably the best-known cloud storage services, there are many others for you to choose from , each with their own benefits and drawbacks.

Worst Cloud Storage (Downright Terrible & Plagued With Privacy and Security Issues)

There are a lot of cloud storage services out there, and it can be hard to know which ones to trust with your data. Unfortunately, not all of them are created equal. Some of them are downright terrible and plagued with privacy and security issues, and you should avoid them at all costs. Here are two of the very worst cloud storage services out there:

1. JustCloud

Compared to its cloud storage competitors, JustCloud’s pricing is just ridiculous . There’s no other cloud storage provider so lacking in features while possessing enough hubris to charge $10 a month for such a basic service that doesn’t even work half the time.

JustCloud sells a simple cloud storage service that allows you to back up your files to the cloud, and sync them between multiple devices. That’s it. Every other cloud storage service has something that differentiates it from its competitors, but JustCloud offers just storage and syncing.

One good thing about JustCloud is that it comes with apps for almost all operating systems including Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS.

JustCloud’s sync for your computer is just terrible. It isn’t compatible with your operating system’s folder architecture. Unlike other cloud storage and sync solutions, with JustCloud, you will be spending a lot of time fixing syncing issues . With other providers, you just have to install their sync app once, and then you never have to touch it again.

Another thing I hated about the JustCloud app was that it doesn’t have the ability to upload folders directly . So, you have to create a folder in JustCloud’s terrible UI and then upload the files one by one. And if there are dozens of folders with dozens more inside them that you want to upload, you’re looking at spending at least half an hour just creating folders and uploading files manually.

If you think that JustCloud might be worth a try, just Google their name and you’ll see thousands of bad 1-star reviews plastered all over the internet . Some reviewers will tell you how their files were corrupted, others will tell you how bad the support was, and most are just complaining about the outrageously expensive pricing.

There are hundreds of reviews of JustCloud that complain about how many bugs this service has. This app has so many bugs you’d think it was coded by a school-going child rather than a team of software engineers at a registered company.

Look, I’m not saying there isn’t any use case where JustCloud might make the cut, but there’s none that I can think of for myself.

I’ve tried and tested almost all of the popular cloud storage services both free and paid. Some of those were really bad. But there’s still no way I can ever picture myself using JustCloud. It just doesn’t offer all the features I need in a cloud storage service for it to be a viable option for me. Not only that, the pricing is way too expensive when compared to other similar services.

2. FlipDrive

FlipDrive’s pricing plans might not be the most expensive, but they are up there. They offer only 1 TB of storage for $10 a month. Their competitors offer twice as much space and dozens of useful features for this price.

If you look around a little, you can easily find a cloud storage service that has more features, better security, better customer support, has apps for all your devices, and is built with professionals in mind. And you don’t have to look far!

I love rooting for the underdog. I always recommend tools built by smaller teams and startups. But I don’t think I can recommend FlipDrive to anyone. It doesn’t have anything that makes it stand out . Other than, of course, all the missing features.

For one, there’s no desktop app for macOS devices. If you’re on macOS, you can upload and download your files to FlipDrive using the web application, but there’s no automatic file syncing for you!

Another reason why I don’t like FlipDrive is because there is no file versioning . This is pretty important to me professionally and is a deal-breaker. If you make a change to a file and upload the new version on FlipDrive, there’s no way to go back to the last version.

Other cloud storage providers offer file versioning for free. You can make changes to your files and then revert back to an old version if you aren’t happy with the changes. It’s like undo and redo for files. But FlipDrive doesn’t even offer it on the paid plans.

Another deterrent is security. I don’t think FlipDrive cares about security at all. Whatever cloud storage service you choose, make sure it has 2-Factor Authentication; and enable it! It protects hackers from getting access to your account.

With 2FA, even if a hacker somehow gets access to your password, they can’t log into your account without the one-time password that is sent to your 2FA-linked device (your phone most likely). FlipDrive doesn’t even have 2-Factor Authentication. It also doesn’t offer Zero-knowledge privacy , which is common with most other cloud storage services.

I recommend cloud storage services based on their best use case. For example, if you run an online business, I recommend you go with Dropbox or Google Drive or something similar with best-in-class team-sharing features.

If you are someone who deeply cares about privacy, you’ll want to go for a service that has end-to-end encryption such as Sync.com or Icedrive . But I can’t think of a single real-world use case where I would recommend FlipDrive. If you want terrible (almost non-existent) customer support, no file versioning, and buggy user interfaces, then I might recommend FlipDrive.

If you are thinking of giving FlipDrive a try, I recommend you try some other cloud storage service . It’s more expensive than most of their competitors while offering almost none of the features their competitors offer. It’s buggy as hell and doesn’t have an app for macOS.

If you are into privacy and security, you won’t find any here. Also, the support is terrible as it is almost non-existent. Before you make the mistake of purchasing a premium plan, just try their free plan to see how terrible it is.

If you’re looking for alternatives to Dropbox, there are plenty of options and competitors available that offer a range of key features to suit your needs. Many of these alternatives provide online storage for your files, including photos and videos, with different storage limits to choose from. Some also offer cloud servers and project managers to help you work collaboratively.

Data privacy is a major concern, so it’s important to look for providers that offer secure user accounts and backup space. For enterprise users, lockout device services can be a valuable tool for keeping your data safe. Video sharing and office applications are also common features, as well as support for different media files.

Pricing options can vary, depending on your needs and the level of service you require. Folder structure is also an important consideration when choosing an online storage provider, as is the level of cloud computing and cloud solutions they offer. Finally, be sure to consider the security options available, including encryption and two-factor authentication, to ensure that your data is safe and secure.

Dropbox Business starts at $12.50 per user per month and is geared towards companies and enterprises. The Dropbox Business Standard plan offers more storage (5TB) and comes with advanced collaboration and team features.

Dropbox also offers tools such as Dropbox Paper to help you easily work with other people online on important documents.

Dropbox pros and cons

The best part about using Dropbox is the simplicity that is inherent to all its services and tools. Unlike many other cloud storage providers on the market, Dropbox believes in keeping things simple and making everything easily accessible . Even if you aren’t good with computers, you can easily learn the ropes in a few seconds. Yes, it’s that easy.

Dropbox offers an app for almost all devices, including Android , Windows , Mac , and iOS , which makes it easy to access and sync files across all your devices.

Although Dropbox provides a lot of features, its service is not suitable for all use cases. For example, Dropbox only offers 2GB of storage on its free account plan , while some of the other services on this list offer as much as 15GB of cloud storage for free.

Although Dropbox does offer easy collaboration with the Dropbox Paper tool, it doesn’t have as many collaboration features and options as other providers on this list.

Dropbox comes with “basic” security such as 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest and 128-bit AES encryption for data in transit, as well as two-factor authentication.

But Dropbox’s biggest drawback is still its security . To be more specific, its data center is in the US (which is the founding member of the so-called ‘Five Eyes’ network of intelligence agencies). Plus, it doesn’t deploy end-to-end encryption and lacks zero-knowledge privacy.

How to encrypt Dropbox and make it secure?

As I mentioned above, Dropbox does NOT come with end-to-end encryption.

However, there is a solution, and that is to use Boxcryptor (a third-party app) that encrypts your sensitive files and folders in Dropbox.

What does Boxcryptor do?

It encrypts Dropbox. Boxcryptor encrypts your files (all your files or a selection of files) locally on your device before they are uploaded to Dropbox. Boxcryptor adds the missing security layer Dropbox doesn’t provide.

How to Switch from Dropbox to Google Drive, Sync.com, and pCloud?

Transitioning from Dropbox to other cloud storage services like Google Drive, Sync.com, or pCloud involves a few, but easy, steps. First, you’ll need to download your data from Dropbox, then upload it to the new platform. Here are detailed steps for each service:

1. Google Drive:

• Go to the Dropbox website and sign in.
• Choose the files or folders you want to download.
• Click on “Download”.
• Go to Google Drive and sign in.

Regarding your query, for OneDrive for Business, there is no 1 TB extension cost and 2 TB extension cost, but there is a 5 TB extension cost. For more details, please view the following information.

Normally, OneDrive for Business (Plan 1) provides 1 TB storage for each user and costs $5.00 user/month. Other subscriptions include OneDrive for Business (Plan 1) also provides 1 TB OneDrive storage, such as Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, etc.

To increase OneDrive for Business storage, you need to purchase OneDrive for Business (Plan 2) . It costs $10.00 user/month and provides unlimited individual cloud storage . You can view this article:  Compare cloud storage pricing and plans and the screenshot.

For unlimited individual cloud storage, please view the following points.

First, it will increase the storage from 1 TB to 5 TB. However, the admin may need to edit the current storage limit to 5 TB (go to the Microsoft 365 admin center).

Second, when a user has filled the 5 TB of OneDrive storage to at least 90% capacity, the admin can request Microsoft to increase the default storage space in OneDrive to up to 25 TB per user.

For your reference: Check OneDrive site eligibility for increased storage

If the user reaches at least 90 percent of the 25 TB capacity of OneDrive storage, the admin can raise a support ticket to request Microsoft to provide additional cloud storage in the form of a 25 TB SharePoint team site.

I came over this thread while searching on increasing OneDrive business storage. Thank you for your replies, they were very helpful.

However I have some questions please:

if someone already has business premium subscription , that includes OneDrive plan 1( 1 TB).

he wants to purchase onedriveplan2 to add the storage.

the question is: does he pay for OneDrive upgrade? or for the full OneDrive plan 2 addon?

provided he pays for option 2, full OneDrive plan 2 price: Will the OneDrive plan 2 storage( 5 TB at first) be added to the storage in Business premium( OneDrive plan 1 , 1 TB), so the total storage he has is 6 TB?

There was a mistake in my previous reply. After having the OneDrive Plan 2, you need to contact your admin or IT department to edit your OneDrive storage limit . For the detailed steps, please view the following screenshots.

Last August I was informed that the increase by 1 TB from 1 TB to 2 TB would occur with a nominal monthly cost under $6-$7 per month as I recall.

Since then no increase has occurred from my One Drive.

Please advise the course of action for this increase.

How the Developers of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Introduced Future Saga

• Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Producer Jun Song shares new details on how they’re bringing the villainous Future Saga into the game.
• Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – Future Saga Chapter 1 launches May 24, 2024, for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
• The Xbox Series X|S version will support Smart Delivery, allowing all progress and DLC to carry over from the Xbox One version.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 celebrated its 7 th anniversary back in October 2023 with a big update featuring new modes and in-game events. Keeping to the development team’s determination and wish to keep Xenoverse 2 ’s content fresh and new for the players, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 takes a step towards the future by introducing an entirely new four-part saga for both Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball fans to enjoy with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – Future Saga Chapter 1 coming on May 24, 2024, alongside the release of the Xbox Series X|S version of the game — fans who own the game digitally on Xbox One can enjoy a free upgrade thanks to Smart Delivery tech.

Producer Jun Song joined us recently to share new details on what players can look forward to when Future Saga arrives in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 later this week.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America: When did you start planning new chapter Future Saga?

Producer Jun Song : It was considered in conjunction with the plan for the major update that was implemented last October. To ensure that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will continue to be enjoyed for a long time, we added new content and made various modifications in the October major update so that all users can enjoy it equally.

For similar reasons, we thought it was necessary to provide a fresh and exciting story for users equally by entering a new Saga. The message “Take a Step Towards the Future” expresses the meaning that with the October update and the upcoming new saga — Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will break from the past and move on to the next “future.”

Bandai: What is the concept of the “Future Saga”?

Song : There are two major points: To settle the battle against “Fu” and to depict the struggle for the “future” of the world. This concept is also expressed in the name of DLC.

Until now, Fu has often conducted experiments out of curiosity, causing trouble for the protagonists and other Time Patrollers. However, since Fu himself was not doing it out of malice, the protagonists ended up getting flabbergasted every time.

In Future Saga, however, Fu acts with a clear purpose. And as a result, the battle will develop into a battle for the “future” of not only the “Time Rift” but also that of the protagonists and the entire world.

Note for Readers : The Time Rift is a crack in history that has been created by repeated altered history. The inside is an alien space, but the events that take place there, for better or worse, do not affect the “history” of the world itself.

The Future Saga will be comprised of 4 chapters, each of them has its own story but would be most enjoyable to know the story of Fu if you play all the chapters.

Bandai: Who is “Fu” anyway?

Song : Fu made its first appearance in the extra mission of the paid DLC Extra DLC Pack 2 . He’s an experimental mutant created by Dabura, who utilized the cells of his sister Demon Queen, Towa, and Demon King, Mira, to revive the Demon Realm.

However, Fu only has interest in experimentation and research, and not in the revival of the Demon Realm. Due to this, he rebelled against Dabura, and since then, he has repeatedly conducted experiments (incidents) and research on “energy produced by altered history.” The protagonists have found themselves caught in the trenches in the process.

Bandai: What is the new form of “Ultra Supervillain” that has been newly introduced?

Song : Throughout the Xenoverse series, the “Villainous Mode” and “Supervillain” sorceries have been a source of trouble for the protagonists and Time Patrollers, but in Future Saga, the “Ultra Supervillain” sorceries are introduced.

While it can provide tremendous energy, it is also very dangerous because its impact on history is so great, but it seems that Fu intends to harness this power. This “Ultra Supervillain” will be an important key throughout the Saga, so we hope you will pay attention to it.

Also, the relationship between Fu and the protagonists is also of great interest. Fu and the protagonists have formed a strange friendship through past incidents, and this Saga will focus on the relationship between the two.

Bandai: Any additional comments you’d like to share?

Song : Future Saga will tell a story that Dragon Ball fans will be excited about, but the DLC is also designed to be enjoyable for those who have stopped playing after clearing the game.

We are also preparing a lot of additional content for the free update that will be delivered at the same time, so we hope that you will take this opportunity to play Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 .

The concept of the Xenoverse series, “enter the Dragon Ball world yourself,” is an important pillar of the Dragon Ball game franchise, so we will continue to work hard on with proper plans for future development.
