You’ve prepped well, you know your stuff inside-out and your visual aids are ready. The next big questions are: What should you wear? How should you act?

10 slides give presenters an ample amount of space to summarize their argument. Any more information and the audience is likely to lose focus and doze off.

20 minutes is how long the average person can pay attention without losing his mind wandering. Kawasaki says that, in an ideal world, the last 40 minutes of the presenter’s hour will be utilized in a Q&A session.

A font size of 30 points means that everyone can read a presentation, even from the back of the room, and the presenter is forced to put minimal text up on the screen.

Keep in mind that Kawasaki is talking about a specific situation, a pitch for a room full of venture capitalists.

While his points can be generalized, a business owner may also find themselves in a situation where they aren’t perfectly applicable. It would be good to revise them slightly in different situations.

13 Make eye contact and smile.

You don’t have to stand there and speak like a machine. Your audience will respond better to the presentation if you personalize your interactions with them.

Even in a completely updated presentation, you may find there’s information that just isn’t relevant to your target audience. PowerPoint helps you with this by providing a quick and easy option to hide slides . In the thumbnail pane, right-click the slide you want to hide and select Hide Slide .  You can also hide multiple slides by holding down the Ctrl key , clicking on them and then selecting Hide Slide with a right-click. The hidden slides will now appear greyed out. To reverse this option, simply click Hide Slide again and you slides will be visible.

Another technique to make your PowerPoint company presentation more flexible and interactive is to use hyperlinks . For example, you could hyperlink all the titles of individual sections on your agenda slide so that you can jump from the agenda slide directly to the relevant section with a simple click. This also allows you to respond dynamically to your audience’s reactions or interests.

Pro tip : Use your company logo as a home button. Adding a small logo to the corner of each slide not only strengthens your branding, but also allows you to add a hyperlink to the agenda slide. Click on the logo and you’re back to your PowerPoint presentation overview.

A company presentation lives and dies by its delivery . Even a perfect presentation is of little value if the delivery isn’t convincing. As a presenter, you need to communicate the passion and enthusiasm you feel for your brand through your presentation.

Arouse emotions by using images that speak to your audience . Involve your audience by starting with words such as “Imagine…”. Focus less on “we” (your company) and more on “you” (your audience) . These techniques will help you open the door to your audience’s subconscious – which is where most decisions are made.

Always prepare a ready-to-email format of your presentation . When your customers and partners are impressed, they’ more likely to ask for a digital copy.

Never send your presentation as a PowerPoint file; always send it as a PDF to preserve its formatting and layout. Be sure to pay attention to the file size , too. A company presentation in PDF format should be no larger than about 3MB. An email attachment containing a 30MB company presentation will come across as anything but professional. There’s also a risk that the email won’t even reach the recipient’s inbox due to a limited attachment size.

Step 1: Define the purpose of the corporate presentation

The first step in making a corporate presentation is to determine what your purpose is. What we want to say, what we want to achieve and to whom we are going to present it. Talk to your team, ask them what information about your company is most relevant to your customers, and what content or statistics would help them get more customers. Do a little internal Brainstorming.

From there, we will proceed to create the corporate presentation structure. We will define how many pages and which sections we will need. For more than 30 years, the TED conference series has presented enlightening talks that people enjoy watching. In this article, Anderson, TED’s curator, shares five keys to great presentations:

  • Frame your story (figure out where to start and where to end).
  • Plan your delivery (decide whether to memorize your speech word for word or develop bullet points and then rehearse it—over and over).
  • Work on stage presence (but remember that your story matters more than how you stand or whether you’re visibly nervous).
  • Plan the multimedia (whatever you do, don’t read from PowerPoint slides).
  • Put it together (play to your strengths and be authentic).

According to Anderson, presentations rise or fall on the quality of the idea, the narrative, and the passion of the speaker. It’s about substance—not style. In fact, it’s fairly easy to “coach out” the problems in a talk, but there’s no way to “coach in” the basic story—the presenter has to have the raw material. So if your thinking is not there yet, he advises, decline that invitation to speak. Instead, keep working until you have an idea that’s worth sharing.

Lessons from TED

A little more than a year ago, on a trip to Nairobi, Kenya, some colleagues and I met a 12-year-old Masai boy named Richard Turere, who told us a fascinating story. His family raises livestock on the edge of a vast national park, and one of the biggest challenges is protecting the animals from lions—especially at night. Richard had noticed that placing lamps in a field didn’t deter lion attacks, but when he walked the field with a torch, the lions stayed away. From a young age, he’d been interested in electronics, teaching himself by, for example, taking apart his parents’ radio. He used that experience to devise a system of lights that would turn on and off in sequence—using solar panels, a car battery, and a motorcycle indicator box—and thereby create a sense of movement that he hoped would scare off the lions. He installed the lights, and the lions stopped attacking. Soon villages elsewhere in Kenya began installing Richard’s “lion lights.”

Moz’s strategic vision for the future

This presentation, written by the  co-founder of Moz , explains the future for the company. He talks about the move away from being purely SEO based and shifting into the marketing and sales industries, adding value further along in the pipeline.

Numbers are difficult to remember because they have little semantic meaning on their own. Rand uses bold colours and graphics to help readers contextualise these numbers. He chooses a few data points, such as the audience slide, and explains them in context.

The presentation is clearly laid out and easy to read, with humour added to give the impression Moz is a fun place to work.

Slides from a talk Dharmesh Shah, co-founder of HubSpot, gave at the 2016 SaaStr event talking about how HubSpot got started with inbound marketing and the movement they have created behind it.

Storytelling is extremely important  when it comes to effective corporate presentations. This presentation paints a story which stimulates different parts of the brain and increases retention of the material.

Eric schmidt.

Eric Schmidt, the  former CEO of Google , talks about how Google works at a high level, including the importance of culture, communication and innovation.

Google is an incredibly complex company and Eric could have killed the presentation by explaining the company in depth. Instead, he focusses on a few key points and ideas, including ‘smart creatives’ and culture, that he wants to communicate to the people reading.

Eric chooses a cartoon styled presentation, with drawn illustrations to add meaning to his text. This is in line with the enjoyable culture Google tries to emphasise.

When delivering presentations to a general audience, senior management in your company, or even a venture capitalist, a successful presentation isn’t about the PowerPoint slides you create – it’s about much more than that.

These nine points will help you deliver a powerful presentation.

1. Establish Your Credibility Right Up Front

Lets face it, your audience is more likely to listen to what you have to say if they know you are credible. And it’s not about a lengthy intro with your career highlights.

Instead, whether giving a public presentation or an internal presentation, start your presentation by establishing credibility before you give them information.

You can use a short story about your background related to the topic, share an experience that shaped the presentation or conclusion, or even reveal the legwork or other references that support your information and is directly related to what you are about to tell them.

Make a point about establishing credibility -- don’t just hope it happens.

2. Include a Goal Early in the Presentation

If your audience knows the purpose or goal of the presentation from the start, they are more likely to relate what you have to say with that purpose as you present your material. This makes it easier at the end to get the action you want, whether it’s funding, approval to proceed with an initiative, to change their minds, or simply get agreement and understanding.

It will also help you shape your presentation by focusing you on that goal rather than straying from the primary purpose.

3. Use Supporting Material Liberally

Even if you establish your credibility, you also need to establish the credibility of what you say during your presentation. Instead of just presenting the material, accompany it with information that supports it and gives it credibility. You don’t have to include it in your slides, but make sure it is in your speaking notes.

For instance, you can tell a story, give statistics, reference research, or even provide quotes from well-respected figures that support your message.

And don’t be shy about addressing credibility. You can even say “you may be sceptical about this, but ...” or “I know this is surprising, but ...”

4. Begin Separate Ideas with Powerful Quotations or Images

For more impact, introduce each separate topic or idea with a relevant quotation or full-screen image that evokes the topic instead of using a stock title slide. Add a word or two about the topic if you have to, or simply say it out loud and let the quote or image support it.

This gives your topic more impact since a strong quote or image will stick in their minds as they listen to the related material. It also breaks up the presentation, particularly if you have no choice but to include dry material like sales graphs or bullet points in your PowerPoint presentation.

5. Ask Thought-Provoking or Rhetorical Questions

An effective way to convey information is to ask a question first instead of launching into the presentation material. This will get them thinking about the material in the context you want.

For instance, you could say “You might wonder why ...”; “When I started to look at this issue, I asked myself ...”; or “How much longer should we ...?”

Be sure to consider your audience and the things they would wonder about, and phrase your questions so you answer those things for them, while at the same time advancing your message and your goals for the presentation.

6. Make Startling Statements

Sometimes the best way to get attention about information you are presenting is to make startling statements. It gets their attention and if you can back it up with your information, you will drive home your point.

If necessary, you can pull one fact out and use it, even if it isn’t your main point. It is simply a catalyst for your message.

7. Be Prepared for Difficult Questions

Questions may come up during your presentation or even at the Q&A session, so you need to be prepared for the most difficult ones, particularly ones that may derail your presentation or subvert your goal. Since you should know your topic and your audience, you should plan for these kinds of questions.

Consider all the objections the audience might have or questions they may raise about your points and information. Include the most critical ones within your presentation to sideline objections, or be prepared to answer them when they come up.

This can be as simple as being able to justify statements or address concerns about an approach from subject matter experts like finance, IT, HR, etc., who may be part of your audience.

8. Have Your Own Questions Ready in Case Nobody Asks One

Regardless of whether you are doing a public presentation or a focused business presentation, you should leave time for questions and answers at the end. If nobody asks a question, be prepared with your own questions that you can then answer. Ease into them by saying something like “I’m usually asked…” or “One thing you might still be wondering about is ...”

Of course, your questions should be directly related to getting your message across and achieving your goal, so use them strategically. Even if you get questions, you can still use yours at the end of the Q&A.

9. Have a Second (Short) Closing After the Q&A

Just like an encore or a curtain call, you should include a short closing after the questions. This is the time to summarize (again) and drive home your key messages and points, including your call to action.

If you need to, you can prepare a slide for this, but you should be able to do the final closing without a slide to support you.

Team Presentations are routinely used in academia. However, there is a significant lack of published research outlining a framework for team presentation strategies and techniques that can be applied to students, faculty and business professionals. 

Dr. Daniel Usera, Clinical Marketing Professor, walks readers through the dynamic task of presenting as a team with different examples . W hile comparing and contrasting different styles that are well explained and easy to understand. The article instructs and informs readers about transitions styles and presentation styles. 

Initially, he highlights the speech writing five-point outline. Typically starting with an introduction, three main points, and a conclusion. After highlighting topics, he explains various speaker's roles. T he opener who delivers the introduction, each following speaker presents a main point, and a closer who finishes with the conclusion. 

Each group member should access and lean into their strengths during the presentation to complete the experience. Usera mentions in the article that speaker roles should depend on talent, subject matter experience, and the size of the team. To facilitate a team ’ s transitional periods between speakers, Usera spotlights four different options which are Hosted, Un-hosted, Overhand, and Topical transitions.

Let's get started:

1. Choose Your Slides

Selecting slides in the Movea template

To delete unwanted slides, click on the View tab and select Slide Sorter . Then, hold down the Shift key and click on each slide you don’t want to keep. After you've selected all the unnecessary slides, right-click and select Delete slide . Then, switch back to Normal view . 

2. Add Your Content

Add your own content. Double-click on any text area and press Control-A or Command-A to select all the text. Then, paste your own content or type it in. 

3. Customize Fonts

As you’re entering the content, it’s easy to update your fonts at the same time. While the text is highlighted, select a different font from the drop-down menu on the Home tab of the ribbon.

A great PowerPoint presentation shares the key points of a specific subject. However, sometimes, project status reports require more information and data. Accelerator Summer Business Immersion: HCA Healthcare Presentations

The 3-week Accelerator® Summer Business Immersion certificate program at Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management allows college students and recent graduates to get real-world consulting experience through client projects. HCA Healthcare was one of the 3 clients for the summer 2024 cohort; read below for information on HCA Healthcare, the project the students were tasked with, and the solutions the students prepared. 

The Client: HCA Healthcare

Accelerator students spend 3 weeks learning from Vanderbilt Business faculty.

HCA Healthcare , one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, was the Week 2 client for the summer 2024 Accelerator students. HCA Healthcare consists of 188 hospitals and approximately 2,400 sites of care, including surgery centers, freestanding emergency rooms, urgent care clinics, home health and hospice agencies, and physician clinics, located in 20 states and the United Kingdom. The organization is headquartered only a mile from Management Hall, where Accelerator students gathered to work on the HCA Healthcare project and pitched their resolutions to leaders within the organization. 

The HCA Healthcare Project

Students were tasked with exploring and presenting novel growth strategies and opportunities for HCA Healthcare to increase earnings. They were provided information on the organization’s current assets and a map of its major markets; they were also given select financial and general boundaries and limitations.

Accelerator Student Presentations 

The student teams had 10 minutes to present and pitch their ideas to leaders from HCA Healthcare. A slide deck accompanied each presentation to help attendees visualize the pitches, including financial models and cited resources. The students pitched various well-thought-out ideas and developed ideas for the organization to branch into new growth areas. After each team concluded their presentation, the team from HCA Healthcare had the opportunity to ask detailed questions and seek clarification on any components of their pitch. 

“As someone who grew up in Nashville, it was amazing to have the opportunity to work with HCA through Accelerator,” says Anson Anderson , 2024 Accelerator participant and undergraduate student at Hamilton College. “HCA’s feedback and the project itself both gave me a high level of confidence in my consulting skills.”

The Winning Team

The winning team for Week 2 gathered for a celebratory photo in the lobby of Management Hall.

The HCA Healthcare team awarded first place to Team B, Anson Anderson , Ty Cosse , Peyton Hudson , Aidan McCormack , Patrick Treacy , and Nick Tan . Team B was coached by Matthew Gordon (MBA’24) and Jeffrey Kohl (MBA’24). The team developed and presented a proposal for HCA Healthcare that pulled on the heartstrings of everyone watching the presentations.  

Feedback from HCA Healthcare

Before announcing the winning team for the project, the representatives from HCA Healthcare shared their notes on what they were impressed with and graciously gave suggestions for ways students could improve for future clients. They noted specific ways teams impressed them; for example, they credited the winning team, Team B, with establishing an unmatched connection through storytelling and another team for implementing humor into their presentation.  

“I enjoyed the HCA Healthcare project because it provided me with real-world consulting experience while focusing on an issue I’m passionate about,” says Peyton Hudson , 2024 Accelerator participant and undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 19, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire ZT Systems , a leading provider of AI infrastructure for the world’s largest hyperscale computing companies. The strategic transaction marks the next major step in AMD’s AI strategy to deliver leadership AI training and inferencing solutions based on innovating across silicon, software and systems. ZT Systems’ extensive experience designing and optimizing cloud computing solutions will also help cloud and enterprise customers significantly accelerate the deployment of AMD-powered AI infrastructure at scale.

AMD has agreed to acquire ZT Systems in a cash and stock transaction valued at $4.9 billion, inclusive of a contingent payment of up to $400 million based on certain post-closing milestones. AMD expects the transaction to be accretive on a non-GAAP basis by the end of 2025.
