Show that you understand the current state of research on your topic.
The length of a research proposal can vary quite a bit. A bachelor’s or master’s thesis proposal can be just a few pages, while proposals for PhD dissertations or research funding are usually much longer and more detailed. Your supervisor can help you determine the best length for your work.
One trick to get started is to think of your proposal’s structure as a shorter version of your thesis or dissertation , only without the results , conclusion and discussion sections.

As you get started, it’s important to demonstrate that you’re familiar with the most important research on your topic. A strong literature review shows your reader that your project has a solid foundation in existing knowledge or theory. It also shows that you’re not simply repeating what other people have already done or said, but rather using existing research as a jumping-off point for your own.
In this section, share exactly how your project will contribute to ongoing conversations in the field by:
Following the literature review, restate your main objectives . This brings the focus back to your own project. Next, your research design or methodology section will describe your overall approach, and the practical steps you will take to answer your research questions.

Research objectives are more specific than your research aim. They indicate the specific ways you’ll address the overarching aim.
A PhD, which is short for philosophiae doctor (doctor of philosophy in Latin), is the highest university degree that can be obtained. In a PhD, students spend 3–5 years writing a dissertation , which aims to make a significant, original contribution to current knowledge.
A PhD is intended to prepare students for a career as a researcher, whether that be in academia, the public sector, or the private sector.
A master’s is a 1- or 2-year graduate degree that can prepare you for a variety of careers.
All master’s involve graduate-level coursework. Some are research-intensive and intend to prepare students for further study in a PhD; these usually require their students to write a master’s thesis . Others focus on professional training for a specific career.
Critical thinking refers to the ability to evaluate information and to be aware of biases or assumptions, including your own.
Like information literacy , it involves evaluating arguments, identifying and solving problems in an objective and systematic way, and clearly communicating your ideas.
The best way to remember the difference between a research plan and a research proposal is that they have fundamentally different audiences. A research plan helps you, the researcher, organize your thoughts. On the other hand, a dissertation proposal or research proposal aims to convince others (e.g., a supervisor, a funding body, or a dissertation committee) that your research topic is relevant and worthy of being conducted.

Introduction.
Undoubtedly, the tourism industry holds the likelihood of income opportunities and increased employment, particularly for citizens living in developing countries’ urban areas. In this regard, Meyer (2013) stated that tourism is an essential industry that promotes economic development by creating employment that increases people’s income and is hence considered an essential factor in developing economies.
As in a developing country like Thailand, the economy is largely dependent on the tourism industry. Approximately 25 million tourists visited Thailand in 2018 and generated 1.2 trillion revenues in tourism activity across Thailand. It is further stated by Bramwell and Lane (2011) that the tourism industry primarily supports the economy of Thailand.
Thus, the government has taken several effective initiatives to implement sustainability in the tourism industry. However, particular challenges pose a threat to Thailand’s tourism industry concerning its effectiveness and profitability.
In particular, Chiang Mai is the largest city in mountainous Northern Thailand and is considered an attractive land of colourful hill tribes and misty mountainous scenery. The attractive places and beautiful scenes attract tourists to visit and generate revenue for this city. However, certain factors or issues affect the sustainability of tourism and reduce the tourists’ attention towards Chiang Mai.
Concerning this, Ishii (2012) stated that long-term threats and issues that the tourism industry of Chiang Mai is facing include political matters, regional and local management, accidents and traffic, waste management, and healthcare, water management, deterioration of local culture, competition between local firms and international businesses.
All these factors are making Thailand’s tourism less attractive, particularly in Chiang Mai. According to Chartrungruang (2011), the tourism industry of Chiang Mai is determined to make effective changes in the industry about the attitude of tourists towards the place. It could be possible by making a development plan to maintain the attractiveness and sustainability of this city.
This development plan is likely to address the sustainability problem of Chiang Mai’s environmental, political, and social landscapes and the infrastructure development that will eventually increase the standards of services related to the tourism industry in Chiang Mai.
The following research thus intends can analyse the importance of sustainable tourism the Tourism Authority of Thailand is adopting to address the issues related to tourism management in Chiang Mai and what are the challenges and practices director of the Chiang Mai branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand is adopting for maintaining the sustainability of tourism industry.
Based on supporting evidence, the researcher is likely to address the following research question:
What challenges does the tourism industry in Chiang Mai facing to implement sustainable tourism management?
The following research aims can analyse the importance of sustainable tourism in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Following research objectives have been highlighted that will support the researcher to achieve the main aim of the study:
Tananalyse the factors or challenges that are affecting the management of sustainable tourism in Chiang Mai.
To examine the importance of sustainable tourism in Chiang Mai and how the director of the Chiang Mai branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand manages the tourism industry’s sustainability.
To provide recommendations to the director of the Chiang Mai branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand on how they can address the issues and promote sustainable tourism management.
It is stated by Choi and Turk (2011) that UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organisation) has put a great emphasis on the sustainability of the tourism industry and remarkably suggested to developing countries that all tourism organisations should implement quality standards to enhance the overall quality of tourism products and services such as restaurants, accommodation, location, infrastructure development.
Mowforth and Munt (2015) stated that sustainable tourism is a great concept that has achieved high prominence in the modern tourism industry. Iememphasises implementing quality standards in the tourism sector to promote competitiveness and provide reliable and valuable tourism services.
In addition to this, Harris, Williams, and Griffin (2012) stated that the concept of sustainable tourism had acquired great attention in developing countries for making their tourism industry competitive and increasing the demand locally and internationally. However, certain challenges affect the tourism sector negatively, such as improper waste management, traffic jams and accidents, taxation, shortage of labour, lack of political and government support for the growth and development of the tourism sector.
For example, Ping (2011) stated that the growing population in Chiang Mai has increased traffic jams and waste management problems due to narrow roads available for the vehicle. These issues affect both local and international tourists, thus; reducing the attractiveness and competitiveness of ChiangMai’ss tourism industry.
It is also stated that the implementation of sustainability in Chiang Mai’s tourism industry is a significant concern as the local government is not taking any action regarding these problems and unintentionally supporting the destruction of natural resources, pollution, traffic jams, etc. Larsen, Calgaro, and Thomalla (2011) helped this statement and stated that double taxation is also a significant problem for tourists as they have to pay taxes to both local and national administrative organisations for visiting Chiang Mai with the purpose of tourism.
To address these issues, the director of the Chiang Mai branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand needs to plan and implement development plans to make ChianMai’s’sChianMai’s’s tourism industry more stable and competitive.

A tourism project proposal is a business plan that specifies the start and conclusion dates, as well as the objectives and goals for your project work . They explain why your project concepts should be implemented to potential investors, partners, and stakeholders. Businesses can utilize project proposals to stay focused and fulfill what was promised while the project is being carried out. Successfully implementing sustainable tourism projects, on the other hand, remains a major difficulty.
To fully realize tourism’s potential as a driver of long-term growth, the industry need innovative and cost-effective approaches to development projects and sustainability efforts. Hence, a tourism project proposal can assist companies and their stakeholders in making long-term training plans . They can forecast how they will deploy funds, time, and other resources, as well as how the project will affect their firm in the future.
One of the most common causes of project failure is a lack of competent management. Using tried-and-true tactics will help you improve the effectiveness of your project proposal. If you’re sample planning to make your own tourism project proposal, consider these approaches to guide you in making a successful proposal:
The hospitality sector is characterized by a wide range of private and public stakeholders, as well as the local community, who will be affected regardless directly or indirectly by decisions about tourism growth in their destinations. In order form to execute a tourism project successfully, prioritize effective leadership, good teamwork and delegation, and stakeholder engagement. Therefore, partnership between the government, the corporate sector, and the community to ensure joint decision-making on common issues is needed.
Understanding the stakeholders and their requirements is critical to a project’s success. Offer context for the project scope and the problem it aims to address. You should include a brief history of the problem as it relates to your company, a quick overview of your project’s requirements, and some project specifics.
In order to assure project success, the project management review team must consider and regulate a set of characteristics and variables throughout the project. The project manager must keep track of various variables throughout the project life cycle.
To substantiate your proposal and justify the project’s existence, you’ll need data, statistics, graphs, and charts. You’ll need as much real data, facts, and examples as you can supply to construct a convincing proposal, so look into previous initiatives, both successful and unsuccessful.
Finish your proposal with a conclusion that sums up the problem, solution, and advantages in a few sentences. Make your sample proposal stand out by restating important concepts or data you want your audience to remember.
Your proposal should contain a narrative. To produce a unified whole, each component and element must operate together.
The purpose, aims, precise objectives, technique, and expected impact of the project should all be included. The objectives must be presented in measurable terms, and they must be explicit and compatible with the statement of purpose of need and the proposed project’s purpose.
Sustainable tourism addresses the demands of visitors, the industry, the environment, and host communities while taking full account of current and future economic, social, and environmental repercussions.
Recognize that most tourism incorporates the destination as a whole, including ecosystems, natural resources, cultural assets and traditions, communities, aesthetics, and built infrastructure, in addition to industry firms.
All in all, as entrepreneurs, you must recognize the necessity of an effective project proposal to boost the hospitality and tourism industry. ✔ During selection, narrow down the ideas to those you find interesting in class. When creating a topic for a tourism project , eliminate other topics you have learned until you are left with the ones you find fascinating. This can make the whole process of research to be fun for you compared to when you select an idea you find boring. Scholars tend to put more effort into interesting projects because they are curious to learn more which will be a plus.
✔ It is always advisable to consider the scope of your tourism research topic. During creation, it is advisable to modify an idea in a way that you will end up with a manageable idea. If that is not considered, you might find your study to be too narrow or wide making it difficult to get the best results. Your research topic must be easy to understand.

By following these steps, you can identify a research topic that captivates your interest, addresses important issues, and contributes meaningfully to the field of tourism. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are widely used in tourism and tourists tend to take for granted that they can use the Internet for most of their travel arrangements, even when travelling to countries in the developing world. But not all tourism operators have the resources, whether financial or skills, to benefit from the use of ICT, and there is a risk that this could exclude them from itineraries. While it has the potential to contribute to pro-poor tourism, ICT can thus also have the opposite effect, unless concerted action is taken to include small poor operators into some form of Internet presence. This is the conclusion drawn from an exploratory study conducted among small tourism operators in the Siem Reap region of Cambodia. The paper concludes with a proposal of an Internet platform promoting pro-poor tourism in the area and suggests that the Cambodian government has an important role to play in facilitating use of the Internet by this segment of the tour...

This paper reports research carried out in Cambodia during 2003 on international tourism to that country. Over two hundred tourists responded to a lengthy questionnaire that established the benefits they sought from tourism, the activities in which they indulged whilst on vacation and their philosophies of travel. From their replies it was possible to categorise tourists to Cambodia using cluster analysis and benefit segmentation techniques into two distinct clusters – those travelling on a package holiday and those travelling independently. These two groups had very similar demographics, but were quite distinct in terms of their attitudes to travel style, their needs for food, drink, entertainment, and accommodation, the entertainments and diversions sought, and their means of relaxing. However, they were very similar in their need to interact with the Cambodian people, and experience as much as possible the culture and history of Cambodia. This data can be most useful in product development and promotion for the Cambodian tourism industry.
