Into The Wild Synthesis Essay

Different people have different goals. Everyone wants to achieve something, whether it’s becoming a surgeon or graduating high school. In the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, for Chris McCandless it was out of the ordinary. McCandless wanted to go out into the wild alone with nothing besides a few general needs. Some of those needs consisted of a journal, a camera, a large bag of rice, a small cooking utensil, matches, a knife, and some fishing twine with a hook. Most people would think that’s a suicide wish to just go out in the wild, others just thinking it was crazy and wondering who his parents are. Then there are people that find him as an inspiration for going after his goal. McCandless thought it was finally a chance to go on his own and see what’s out in the world. People think that since McCandless died out in the wilderness , he didn’t accomplish his goal. McCandless on the other hand felt the complete opposite. He achieved his goal of seeing parts of Alaska that most people would dream of doing but wouldn’t actually conquer it because they are too scared of what might be out there. To start off, McCandless felt as though he accomplished his goal from the journey that he went on because of all the passion that he had for nature. Nothing stopped him from going out into the …show more content…

Everyone sets their goals at different expectations than others which is why you typically don’t go for the same goal as other people. The adventure that McCandless went on was dangerous, but it fit his expectation to be independent and to find where he belongs.McCandless valued self-reliance ,he needed to be his own person, with his own vision and way of thinking so that others wouldnt influence him along the way. He recognized that the only way for him to find his own truth would to be self-centered and focus on his own being first, without others clouding his sense of

Compare And Contrast Mccandless And Mccunn's Venture Into The Wild

Both men had the same intentions in mind, to set out on the road to Alaska. Their aspirations of Alaska had the same overall dream to live off the land. McCunn went to remain in the wilderness and shoot pictures of wildlife. McCandless went to live a simple life in nature without materialistic influence.

Into The Wild Chris Mccandless Similarities

Into the Life of Chris McCandless Chris McCandless, a unique man, embarked on the journey of a lifetime. During his adventure, he broke away from the constraints of society and he learned what is important in life. I admire what Chris was trying to accomplish by heading “into the wild”, and I can see parts of my beliefs in his. My experiences are different from McCandless’ experiences in as many ways as they are similar.

Chris Mccandless Transcendentalism Analysis

He wanted to hide from reality from the mistakes his father made so with a surge of recklessness and erroneous optimism he went into the wild. Thoreau went into the wild for a greater purpose to live simply thinking on a higher plane, understanding the human heart, and connecting to nature. Perhaps it could be argued that McCandless lived out Thoreau’s beliefs in terms of living modestly in nature better than Thoreau because McCandless actually ventured into the wilderness rather than living outside of town, he lived in solitude rather than Thoreau who had many guests, and he risked his life to live out his philosophy. This shows the main discrepancy between Thoreau and McCandless – the planning and execution. Thoreau never advocates the need to be reckless but he escapes to the woods for inspiration and discovery.

Self-Confidence In Into The Wild, By Jon Krakauer

In Into The wild, Krakauer narrates the last couple of journeys Mccandless had on his adventure to Alaska where he ultimately died. Mccandless Touched many people's lives through all of his journeys. Mccandless went on these journeys because he was confused in life when he figured out his dad had cheated on his mom. This changed Mccandless to the point he began to hate his parents. Mccandless had a lot of confidence in himself so he left on an adventure to find his identity.

Chris Mccandless Persuasive Analysis

Although some might argue that McCandless should have notified his parents that he was going to take this trip, however, if he would’ve told his family they would have gone out of their way to bring him back home. Furthermore Mccandless did tell his parents that he was going on this trip and didn’t find the need to tell them where he was going minute by minute. He was an adult and understood what the consequences were. Ever since Mccandless was a kid he was isolated, he felt that he didn’t belong in the world he lived in.

Duality Of Mccandless Behavior

This quote states that McCandless’s behavior is not completely unique or unusual. Though he obviously lives in a way that very few do, and particularly very few who grow up with the opportunities he has, the motive behind his behavior is not uncommon. This also reflects the idea that he would have been looked upon with appreciation and would have been considered a person who had accomplished something impressive. Because he died, however, many have criticized him, and have seen in his daring only arrogance and stupidity, when in reality it was probably mostly influenced by his crave for adventure.

Christopher Mccandless Life Analysis

Doing everything flawless with no agitation and finessing the trip to Alaska to fall short to a poisonous plant. The only thing that McCandless could have done to survive would probably be not crossing the river because that was the main complication that got him stuck. To conclude, I would agree with Shaun Callarman at the end because there was plenty of evidence on how inadequate Christopher McCandless’s decisions were and how unpredictable his situation was. There was no other way this journey could have ended for McCandless except if he just stayed home from the beginning. Overall, he was amateurish and incompetent person that could not accomplish his dream, but did inspire endless people to follow their dreams and achieve nature tranquility.

When Chris Mccandless Was A Transcendentalist

His goal was to live off the land and keep a journal of his physical and spiritual progress as he faced the Alaskan Wilderness and the forces of nature. He was determined to make his dream come true. “An epic journey that would change everything.” In July of 1990, is when Chris Mccandless started his adventure.

Chris Mccandless Motive Essay

McCandless plan was to go out into the bush of Alaskan and live off the country. Krakauer believed that McCandless had very little experience a year prior to heading out to Alaska. McCandless subsisted for a month on the Gulf of California living of just five

What Is Chris Mccandless Thesis For Into The Wild

The adventure of the wilderness is something that is occurring throughout very many different wishes. He just wanted to live the dream he wanted to pursue in the adventure of catching prey and surviving in the wilderness on its own. Applies to McCandless journey in a few ways of his childhood. He then realized how all the factors in different reasoning in the entire prompt and wilderness.

Return To The Wild Analysis

Although he can mainly recall his memories as a child being awful, there was one thing he could remember that he actually did like, which was going on adventures. McCandless became quite an adventurous man and loved being out in nature where he can feel safe and content. McCandless may have succeeded in his revenge towards his parents and being out in nature, he died died accomplishing what he wanted to the most, living to the

Chris Mccandless The Wild Literary Analysis

A pilgrim, perhaps” (85). Some argue that McCandless was cowardly in his decision to “run away from his problems” and selfish in failing to seek further communication with his family, thereby rejecting them peace of mind after his disappearance. While this is

Mccandless Characteristics

It is based entirely on opinion that whether McCandless in any way represents what is wrong or right about American character and as an American and growing up in America I am undoubtedly biased. Overall I believe his characteristics of being a hard-worker, optimism, friendliness, frankness, stubbornness, riskiness, and individuality are good, but the abandonment of his family and stubbornness to the extreme are bad. Because McCandless was American this journey and death became a representation of American culture however it wasn’t American values that McCandless felt the drive to do his Alaskan Odyssey but rather arguably it was human nature. There are people of different countries who journey into the wilderness alone recklessly or solo climb mountains without any gear, but we only take McCandless and use him to represent American

Into The Wild Argumentative Essay

Some of these situations could have been prevented yet he decided to do some sort of an “trial and error”. Whether it was kayaking through the colorado river or surviving under extreme weather conditions, McCandless made it his responsibility to beat the odds. So what and who was he proving that he could live within nature and survive?

The Controversy Of Chris Mccandless Into The Wild

The life of Chris McCandless can be considered a controversy. A majority of the population that has heard his story or read the book argue on whether Chris McCandless was admirable for his choices, or foolish for them. Many choose to believe that McCandless was admirable for his decision to live on his own in the wilderness. While others can only see him as a young fool that took advantage of his surroundings. The latter of the population base their thoughts on the last four months of the young man’s life.
