Writing an essay on how you spent your summer vacation is a classic way of starting a new school year. Think about this essay as an opportunity to tell a story about your summer while reflecting on the experiences you had. Choose a memorable moment you had this summer and start crafting your essay, giving as many details as possible.

Choosing a Topic

• These can also make nice visual aids if you are asked to present your essay.

• A list might be full of things like babysitting, attending a camp, working at a local store, taking a road trip, etc. This type of brainstorming can help you pick major events and other important moments from your summer.

• For example, maybe you spent your summer traveling around Japan. Think of a memorable moment you had while traveling — maybe you walked up a mountain in the pouring rain — and write about this moment, adding lots of details.

• For example, if you're writing about spending time at the beach, your outline could remind you to talk about the sandcastle building contest you entered, the dolphins you saw, and the ice cream you ate every day.
• Details might be what the other sandcastles looked like, how far away the dolphins were, and what kind of toppings were on your ice cream.

• Instead of saying that you worked in a pet store, ate a PB&J sandwich, and walked home every day, talk about more than just your actions. You could talk about which pets are your favorites to work with, how it felt to eat the same sandwich every day, or what you thought about on your walk home.

• Using sensory details like these will help your readers visualize and engage with your writing. These help your audience make your experiences feel real to them, even though they weren't there.

• For example, instead of saying “I went to the beach this summer,” try saying “I spent my summer swimming in the frigid water at Virginia Beach.” The more details you can provide, the more engaged your reader will be.

Most importantly, summer vacations give us a chance to explore new things. We can adopt new hobbies like painting, dancing, singing and more during this time. Furthermore, it gives us a chance to visit our grandparents or to someplace abroad. Summer vacations bring all types of fun, however, these particular summer vacations were the most memorable for me. My parents made me join a summer camp which was too much fun and then we visited our grandparents’ place.

Summer Camp

As the first day of my summer vacations started, I started getting bored easily. Mostly so because all my friends had gone to someplace or the other. My parents noticed this and decided to send me to a summer camp. Our school itself was organizing one in which my parents got me enrolled.

At first, I thought it would be of no use and would be equally boring. However, to my surprise, I was wrong. The summer camp was one of the best experiences of my life. I got the chance to indulge in so many activities and in fact, it was the first time where I discovered my talent for painting.

We got up early in the morning at 7 o’clock, despite no school. We had trainers who would teach us different things each day. On the first day, I got to learn karate, which was very amusing and helpful. Further, I learned how to play sports like basketball , table tennis, and volleyball.

Finally, came my most awaited part. We were taught painting and unique tips to master this art. I learned it quickly and started enjoying painting. My passion for painting began from this summer camp , and I will forever be indebted to it.

My Grandparents’ Place

After my summer camp ended, my whole family decided to visit my grandparent’s village . It is situated away from the city and is full of lush and greenery. I love spending time with my grandparents so I was very excited to visit their village.

We stayed there for over two weeks, and that throughout that time, I was at my best behavior. I used to get up at 7 o’clock in the morning to take a stroll with my grandfather. Then all the family members would get together to have breakfast full of healthy things and fresh fruits from the farm nearby.

In the evening, we would sit by our grandmother’s bed and listen to stories. Then, my siblings and I used to go to the terrace and play games. We would also gaze at their stars all night, as we did not get that in the city.

Essay Sample on What I Did This Summer

If there’s one word that every student loves to hear is “Vacations” because let’s be real, that’s the best time of the year, is it not? The days out almost endlessly before you with nothing like deadlines to meet and quizzes to prepare for on your mind. And if there’s someone who loves vacations more than anyone else, it’s me. And Oh boy, did I have the time of my life the last summer break I got and here is what I did this summer!

As soon as I got done with my exams, the durst thing I did was heave a huge sigh of relief and collapsed on my bed, exhausted from all the work I’d had to put in the semester. After a quick nap (Okay, not so short rest, I dozed off for four hours), I got up and immediately decided to start planning on how I was preparing to spend my vacations. I called my best friend Ali, with whom I had planned a trip since the school year, and immediately started planning and sorting out the details.

We agreed on a trip to the northern areas of the country and began preparations for it immediately. Two of our other very close friends and we were due to leave by the end of the week, and with barely five more days to go got packing immediately. We left by train on a hot Friday afternoon and reached a cool hill station away from the hot and humid city.

And saying that we enjoyed ourselves on that trip would be nothing short of an understatement.

From white water rafting to trekking on narrow mountain trails, we did it all. And before we knew it, our trip came to an end. With a rather sad heart but with numerous memories made to cherish, I came back rather unfortunate that the trip had come to an end but still rather happy that I still had a month and a half worth of lazing around left to do after spending probably the best two weeks on my life up north with my closest buddies.

Now here’s a fun fact about myself. I’m an avid football player, and with my university course load and those pesky exams, I hadn’t gotten much time to play the sport I was so dearly in love with. However, a few days after I returned, the club I played for had registered to participate in a local league, which I was excited about. And in a few days, the tournament kicked off with us cruising through the tournament’s group stages.

In the meantime, I had also decided to start with a new hobby – Baking. However, needless to say, that enthusiasm of mine didn’t last very long (two burnt cakes long to be very precise), and thus I decided to focus my attention on some that were, let’s just say, more my cup of tea!

I also promised to make sure I was productive this summer break, so I decided to start a social internship, much to my parent’s delight. I filled the application forms, and the next thing I knew, I breezed through the interview and was due to start the following week. And let me tell you, that was probably one of the best experiences; working with kids at the hospital was an eye-opener for me as to his we take our health for granted. Seeing the smiles on the little kid’s face would leave me feeling accomplished from inside, and I found happiness in the fact that I was finally giving back to the community.

With my internship ending and the tournament coming to a close as well (which we managed to win, thanks to a thrilling penalty shoot-out in the final), my summer break had come to an end too. And as upset, I was at having to go back to my boring life of assignments and exams, I was very pleased that this summer was one of the finest I’ve ever had. I wish I get an opportunity to experience such times every single year.

Pretty much anyone I know has had to write one of those whether it was in grade school, or even in university. The essay in general is fairly straight forward, however there can be changes and specific requirements the instructor wants you to do with the assignment. This essay will explain exactly how you go about telling the tale of your summer vacation.

I would not assume you need to do any research for this essay. The summer break was your own.

Let's start this one at the most simple of places, summer vacation. You were there, I wasn't. It is that concept that is the basis for this type of essay. An individual writes this essay from the first person perspective explaining in detail how they spent those summer days. Depending on if you just spent those lazy summer days basking in the sun, or if you were travelling the countries or Europe, what you say, and the way you say things may very much differ. We're keeping this simple. I would not assume you need to do any research for this essay. The summer break was your own. You are the only one who truly knows the extent of how you spent it, and now it is your turn to tell your story to the world.

No summer is too dull

For those who had more interesting more action packed summer vacations these essays can be pretty straight to the point. Just tell the story of your adventures. For those who spent the days just sitting out in their backyards or down at the beach you get to be a bit more inventive. I say this because you can only word "I spent my summer lying out in the sun at the beach" in so many ways. It is the less action packed summer vacations which end up having more interesting papers if written correctly. Perhaps you will decide to spend a bit more detail on the way that you took a particular route into work every morning until halfway through the summer when your route was destroyed via road construction and you were forced 10 miles out of your way to reach the same destination. Or perhaps you spent every Thursday afternoon at the beach, until one week when the week was closed because of salmonella bacteria. No summer is too dull. The only thing which may be lacking in the essay is the way that you enliven your vacation.

Sometimes you might want to stick to the most interesting facts

Thinking a bit more, there is possibly one way this essay could be difficult to write. If you did have such an extensive and interesting summer, perhaps a trip to Europe, and you wanted to include as much of the trip as possible in the paper, however the instructor placed a word limit on the paper. How is it that you explain your travels from Paris to Milan, from Milan to Moscow, in only 1000 words? In such a case I would suggest you write only the most interesting features of the trip. Or perhaps if you want to include as much as possible, remove particular details write in more specific generalities. The next day we went to two museums in Milan before heading to the train station to leave for Moscow. The train from Italy to Russia took this duration of timeaˆ¦ If you have a lot to say, you have a few ways to use your words to describe your experiences, just think of how you want to convey the experience and let the writing do it for you.

So to conclude, this essay isn't original. The essay isn't something which hasn't been done. Adversely the essay isn't something you should particularly worry about even if you had a "dull" summer. Let your writing make the summer interesting, even if you didn't travel to foreign countries. Something interesting can be said about what happened to you over your summer vacation, it's all a matter of how you word it. Good luck, and get writing!

As we were done with the dinner, we thanked Jacque and made our way to the Moulin Rouge…The great time was just ahead!”
