Essay on Health is Wealth in 200 Words

‘The most important wealth in the world is our health. Today, everyone is running after a materialistic life, ignoring true happiness and their well-being. In this chaotic and digital world, the phrase “health is wealth” holds great importance. It reminds us that having good health is the foundation on which a fulfilling life is built.

Speaking of the advantages of having good health, it allows us to enjoy life to the fullest. Without having a healthy mind and body the whole process becomes elusive.

Moreover, success and productivity depend on being in excellent health. It enables people to achieve their goals, work productively, and give back to society. An unwell person frequently encounters obstacles that prevent them from realising their hopes and dreams.

Keeping one’s health is also an investment in the future. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are two preventative healthcare practices that can assist in avoiding the need for future, expensive medical treatments. It is important to take a responsible approach to protecting one’s general well-being as well as one’s financial wealth.

Finally,” health is wealth” emphasises the importance of well-being in our lives. It reminds us that the priceless gift of health cannot be replaced by any amount of material prosperity. One must put their health first and treasure it beyond everything else if one wants to live a truly wealthy and fulfilling life.

Essay on Health is Wealth in 300 Words

Health is riches, after all. This proverb, which emphasises the critical necessity of health in one’s life, is full of timeless wisdom. It is simple to ignore the priceless gem that good health represents in a world that is focused on material prosperity and material interests.

First and foremost, being healthy helps people to live happy and fruitful lives. It serves as the cornerstone on which all other accomplishments are constructed. When someone is in good health, they have the vigour, strength, and stamina to achieve their aspirations, objectives, and ambitions. Poor health, on the other hand, can be a formidable obstacle that restricts one’s potential and prospects.

Additionally, having good health results in a higher quality of life. Healthy people require fewer medical procedures and are less in pain and suffering. They can enjoy life’s simple pleasures like spending time with loved ones, going outside, and eating good food without worrying about their diet.

The state of one’s health is crucial to their mental well-being. Mental health and physical well-being are tightly related. An emotionally stable and resilient state of mind is frequently a byproduct of physical health. The importance of health in one’s entire well-being is further highlighted by the fact that poor health can result in stress, worry, and depression.

The economic effects of health are another important factor. People who are in good health tend to be more productive at work, which increases earnings and improves financial security. On the other hand, health issues can cause medical expenses and decreased earning potential, which can have a considerable influence on one’s financial security.

The term “health is wealth” embodies a profound truth, to sum it up. The most valuable asset a person can have is good health because it supports all other facets of life. It enables people to live fulfilling lives, pursue their aspirations, and maintain their mental and emotional health. As a result, we must give our health priority and make the necessary investments because it is the only type of wealth that will never be exceeded or replaced by worldly belongings.

Essay on Health is Wealth in 400 Words

The proverb “Health is Wealth” maintains a special place in our lives. It emphasises how important good health is as the cornerstone of a successful and joyful life. The genuine meaning of riches is frequently missed in today’s fast-paced society when success is frequently gauged in monetary terms. This essay explores the deep significance of this adage and shows how true it is that the best asset anyone can have is their health.

Here are all the benefits one gets:

Physical Well-Being

Being physically healthy is the same as being in good health. Our bodies perform at their peak when we are healthy, enabling us to go about our daily lives with vigour and enthusiasm. A productive existence is built on a foundation of physical fitness. It makes it possible for us to work effectively, pursue our objectives, and fully appreciate life. Even the most plentiful wealth becomes meaningless in the absence of health.

Mental Health

In addition to physical health, mental health is a critical element of our entire prosperity. Ageless wisdom is having a good mind and a healthy body. Our cognitive functioning, emotional stability, and resiliency in the face of difficulties are all influenced by our mental health. Material prosperity can become a cause of stress and unhappiness in the absence of mental wellness.

Economic success

Economic success is directly correlated with good health. People may actively participate in the workforce and make more money when they are healthy. Healthier populations are also less financially burdened by healthcare expenses, releasing funds for other basic requirements. As a result, investing in healthcare is an investment in the prosperity of a country.

Life Quality

The genuine wealth of life is found in its excellence. A person in good health can enjoy life’s joys, go on trips, engage in hobbies, and spend time with loved ones. No amount of money can replace the richness that these experiences bring to life. Healthy people are better able to live fulfilling and pleasurable lives.

To conclude, the motto “Health is Wealth” perfectly describes what a prosperous life entails. While having material possessions is necessary for comfort and security, how we use and enjoy our wealth is ultimately influenced by our health. Given that health is the foundation upon which all other types of wealth are formed, investing in it should be a top priority. One must understand that health is the ultimate treasure that neither money nor anything else can ever fully replace or imitate to truly understand its worth. Therefore, let us never lose sight of the fact that our health is the most priceless asset we have when pursuing success and happiness.

It emphasizes that true wealth lies not in material possessions, but in the preservation and enhancement of one’s physical and mental well-being. This essay delves into the significance of good health, its impact on various aspects of life, the role of preventive care, and the steps individuals can take to prioritize and nurture their health.

The Foundation of Prosperity

Good health serves as the bedrock of a prosperous life. Physical and mental well-being are intertwined, creating a harmonious balance that enables individuals to thrive and achieve their goals. Optimal physical health allows for increased energy, stamina, and vitality, enabling individuals to participate fully in life’s activities. Mental well-being, on the other hand, fosters emotional stability, resilience, and the ability to cope with challenges effectively.

It enables them to perform optimally in their chosen fields, make significant contributions, and advance their careers. Moreover, good health contributes to job satisfaction, reducing absenteeism and increasing overall work productivity.

Preventive Care: The Key to Long-term Well-being

Preventive care plays a pivotal role in maintaining good health. Regular medical check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations are crucial in identifying and managing health risks before they escalate. Early detection of potential illnesses allows for timely intervention and treatment, reducing the impact and complications associated with diseases. In addition, adopting a preventive mindset encompasses healthy lifestyle choices. Engaging in regular physical exercise, consuming a balanced diet, getting sufficient sleep, managing stress, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking or excessive alcohol consumption are vital aspects of preventive care. Health is Wealth Essay

A well-known proverb that emphasises the value of health and demonstrates that health equals wealth. Wealth is meaningless to us if we are not well or not feeling good in a condition of physical, mental, and social well-being. We must constantly be in good health. Health is therefore more valuable than material things. Here are a few sample essays on health is wealth.

100 Words Essay On Health Is Wealth

200 words essay on health is wealth, 500 words essay on health is wealth.

Health is Wealth Essay

Only excellent health accompanies us in both good and terrible circumstances, thus health is wealth. In difficult circumstances, no one in this world can assist us. Therefore, if our health is excellent, we can handle any difficult situation. In order to enjoy life, one must be healthy or else, they would have health-related or other challenges. We need to have a good lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, engaging in daily exercise, breathing fresh air and drinking clean water, maintaining excellent posture, getting adequate sleep and relaxation, and keeping ourselves clean in order to preserve good health. If one is unhealthy, one will have problems with their health or other aspects of life.

Health was once defined as “the ability of an organism to function normally”. However, the definition of health has evolved over time. Being healthy does not necessarily mean physical fitness. Rather, it refers to a state of health, including emotional, mental and social stability. Health is the source of true wealth. A healthy body contains key elements that are essential for the proper functioning of the body. Physical health is the first important factor. Physical well-being is the state of having a healthy body free from disease. People tend to live longer when their bodies are healthy.

A balanced diet is the best way to keep your body healthy. Consuming the right amount of nutrients you need gives you better control over your physical health. Regular exercise is the next very important factor. Don't forget to exercise, even for 10 minutes, to keep your body in shape. Eating junk food all the time is not a good idea. Consuming alcohol and smoking is harmful to your health. Finally, make it a daily priority to get enough sleep (7-8 hours) before using your phone. The best recommendation is to put your phone away two hours before bedtime.

You may have heard the phrase "health is wealth" as a child, but most people still don't understand what it means. Most people equate health with freedom from disease. It may be so in some cases, but health is much more than that. To live a healthy life, you need to be physically and mentally healthy. For example, if one eats junk food all the time and doesn't get sick, that person is not healthy.

In the last century, great efforts have been made to promote physical health. However, overcoming psychological challenges is still lagging behind. According to the World Health Organization, mental health problems account for 47% of disabilities in life when calculated as the number of days people are unable to function normally in their daily lives.

Importance Of Health

Maintaining good health is very important.

Longevity | A person's daily life is affected by an unhealthy lifestyle. Getting the right nutrients helps your body stay healthier and live longer.

Eliminate illness | The key to a healthy life is a strong immune system that can fight off many diseases. The immune system functions as the body's natural defence system against intruders that can harm the body. Maintaining physical and mental health is essential for complete well-being

Improved mental health | Poor mental health is the result of an unhealthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle calms the mind and lifts the spirit. Only mentally satisfied people can work efficiently. Physical and mental health of a person, are interdependent

Live a fruitful life | Healthy individuals contribute to society and nations. A person is considered healthy only if he is free from disease. That way, we may be able to provide a better service.

Economic benefit | Medical costs are rising. Only by investing in one's health in the early stages can one avoid or reduce the severity of the onset of illness. I can.

Achieving Good Health

Making healthy lifestyle changes can greatly improve your health.

By eating nutritious foods—diet has a huge impact on overall health. Our health is directly affected by what we eat. A nutritious diet strengthens your immune system and improves your overall health. Eating more fruits and vegetables is good for your health. It's important to stay hydrated and eat fewer animal products. Bone density and muscle strength are increased through regular exercise and physical activity. Regular physical activity has several benefits.

Adequate sleep is essential to maintaining good health. Getting the right amount of sleep at the right time improves physical and mental health and protects against various heart diseases.

Reducing your consumption of refined sugar has several positive health effects. Refined sugar contains empty calories, which can lead to weight gain and elevated blood sugar levels.

People will benefit from participating in all these activities and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Health is becoming more and more important in today's life. Today, the world is full of electronic gadgets and technology that have a negative impact on our health. From an early age, schoolchildren suffer from many diseases caused by excessive use of computers, mobile phones and the Internet. People value wealth more and as a result become victims of disease and unhealthy lifestyles. However, they must understand that they can live without money but not without health.

  • Health is true wealth, and is more important than money!
  • Staying healthy means having a fit body and mind.
  • We should take care of our health every day.
  • To stay healthy, we should exercise.
  • For a healthy mind, we should meditate.
  • We should eat nutritious food.
  • We should avoid all kinds of packaged and junk foods even if they are tasty.
  • We should drink a lot of water.
  • We must take care of our health and only then will we be able to enjoy life.

When children understand the importance of health at an early stage, they are encouraged to adopt healthy habits since childhood. Writing about this in a small paragraph can be a challenge for young children. Let us help your child write a short essay on Health is Wealth essay in 200 to 250 words:

‘Health is Wealth’ is a popular proverb. It is very true because we must have good health to enjoy life. If we are not healthy, we won’t be able to do anything. We must stay healthy to have fun in life. We have to take care of our physical health and our mental health. Only then can we be truly healthy. To maintain good health, we must exercise regularly, eat healthy food, drink a lot of water, and stay active. Only if we practise this regularly, can we stay healthy. We also need to meditate and think positively to keep our minds healthy. Both our body and mind play equally important roles in keeping us healthy. We must also know about some other factors that affect our health. We should avoid packaged and junk food. We must eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. We should also keep ourselves and our surroundings clean. Along with other things, a proper amount of rest is also important to stay healthy. We must sleep for 7-8 hours every night. We can stay healthy when we follow all these things together.

As children grow older, they are expected to write their ideas more articulately. They will have to express their thoughts in detail, supporting the points they write about the importance of health. Let us help your child write an interesting essay on ‘health is wealth’ for class 3:

‘Health is Wealth’ is a very important proverb. We should always remember this, and it should be our mantra in life. True wealth is our health and not money or properties. We may be extremely rich, have a good job or business, and own huge houses and lands, but all of it becomes meaningless if we don’t have good health. Only if we are fit and healthy can we enjoy life. Good health helps us make efforts and work hard. We can also help others. For all aspects of life, we need to stay healthy.

Staying healthy means being both physically and mentally fit. To stay physically fit, we must exercise and remain physically active. To stay mentally healthy, we should meditate and think positively in every situation. Our food habits also play a very important role in maintaining good health. We should eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Drinking adequate water is also very important. It will strengthen our immunity and make us strong. We should avoid packaged foods. They are loaded with chemicals. We should also avoid junk food. They do not give us any nutrition and cause health problems like diabetes and obesity. Instead, we must eat homemade food full of nutrition. They are always wholesome and hygienic and help us remain fit and healthy.

Health is similar to money, in the sense that we understand the true value of it only after we lose it. We can’t get back the money once lost. Luckily, we can get back our health if we work on it. We have to make an effort to stay healthy. Being active is very important. It is also important that we rest, but laziness is our enemy. So we should know when we are resting or relaxing and when we are being lazy. We need a sound sleep for 7-8 hours every night, preferably at a fixed time. Spending too much time on phones or any other gadget is also not good for our health. Sitting in front of a screen will affect both our body and mind negatively. So, it is important that we limit the use of gadgets and instead play outdoor games with our friends under the open skies. The refreshing fresh air and physical activity act as a treat for our mind and body.

Cleanliness also plays an important role to keep us healthy. We should keep ourselves and our surroundings clean and hygienic. Having a proper bath every day, brushing our teeth twice a day, and washing our mouth after eating food are important daily practices. We should also wash our hands and feet whenever we return home from outside. All these habits together lead to good health. We must stick to these practices with consistency and discipline. These steps will also help us stay healthy in old age. Our body and our mind will be our companions throughout life. So we should take care of them to be happy.

When your child writes a composition on health, they realise the value of staying healthy. They become aware of the practices they should embrace to stay healthy. When good habits are formed at a tender age, they stay even after your child grows up. Essay writing will help improve your little one’s creative writing skills. It will also increase their vocabulary.

We hope the above examples will help your child frame a beautiful composition on ‘Health is Wealth’. It will help your child expand their ideas and write a paragraph on their own. Your little one will also realise the importance of health through the process of reading and writing the essay.

Physical and mental wellness are crucial for the well-being of children. Unfortunately, in today’s society, children often neglect these aspects of their health due to excessive studying and technology usage. Rather than playing outside, they opt for unhealthy snacks and spending hours in front of screens. These harmful behaviours slowly deteriorate their overall health. Therefore, parents must prioritise their children’s physical and mental health and establish healthy habits from a young age. Regularly maintaining cleanliness is also vital in preserving good health. Simple routines such as bathing daily, washing hands before meals, brushing teeth twice a day, and changing clothes regularly are all beneficial practices that should be instilled in children.

Children and their parents’ excessive use of electronic devices has caused widespread sadness in society. The constant use of these devices is wholly disregarded, without any thought towards the potential negative effects on health. Teenagers engrossed in electronic devices are often discovered, leading to unfortunate situations. The use of technology is commonly linked with feelings of anxiety and hostility. Health issues such as cancer, vision impairment, weight gain, and sleep problems have all been connected to excessive screen time. In addition, emotional well-being also plays a crucial role in overall health. An emotionally stable person should possess strong reasoning skills, self-awareness, and a healthy perspective on life.

In various ways, health is referred to as wealth. An important reason is that we cannot enjoy our wealth, fame, or power if we are unhealthy. Staying active and healthy is no longer an option.

  • Furthermore, other factors like unhealthy food or contaminated water, processed and packaged products, unsanitary living conditions, lack of sleep, and a sedentary lifestyle can also contribute to deteriorating health.
  • A clean living environment also plays a significant role in promoting good health.
  • A sound mind and body can achieve what an unhealthy one cannot – including happiness. Hence, taking care of our health should be our top priority.

Importance of Maintaining Health

We reside in a speedy era where the Internet has drastically reduced distances and people are constantly connected. The norm is to multitask, attempting to meet our responsibilities for various aspects of life. In this struggle, we often overlook making time for ourselves, leading to increasing stress levels.

We may not realize the consequences until one day we face a major health issue, reminding us of the importance of taking care of ourselves. In contrast, in earlier times, life was simpler with moderate working hours, more physical activity from walking and domestic tasks, and a balanced lifestyle with home-cooked meals. However, modern conveniences like cars and household equipment have reduced physical exertion while the demand for longer working hours results in late nights and reliance on fast food. The lack of exercise and sunlight also contribute to unhealthy living conditions and increases the risk of various diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart attacks, and hypertension.

Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize our health just as much as our work by moderating our diet, exercising daily, and maintaining a balanced work-life schedule. Optimal physical and mental well-being leads to practical decision-making and ultimately contributes to success in life while also positively impacting our personality. It takes immense self-control to adopt healthy habits according to research

Health is Wealth Essay in 500 Words

We have all heard the proverb “Health is Wealth”. Ralph Waldo Emerson quoted this. He was the first person to understand how important health is in our life. But very often people do not understand the depth of these words. The real meaning behind this saying is health is the most valuable asset. It determines whether you will live long to accumulate a lifetime worth of wealth. Wealth does not always mean money. It signifies a state of well-being and happiness.

If you are physically fit and healthy, you will be able to earn. Even after knowing all these things, we choose to lead an unhealthy life. We take the concept of health for granted. However, it is time we pay heed to our thoughts and start taking it seriously. Health is the key to a peaceful life devoid of any pain or suffering. It refers to an individual’s overall well-being. To be able to live, you need to have good health, and to maintain good health, one needs to have a healthy lifestyle.

This can be achieved by making habits and following a routine. Exercise, a balanced diet , and sleep are some of the essentials you need for a healthy body and mind. A person with good health can conquer all battles. Good health is a blessing, and it only brings positivity in our lives.

Value of leading a Healthy Lifestyle

Good health is a luxury in itself. We do not realize how privileged we are to be able to lead a healthy lifestyle . Some people cannot afford it. Throughout the day, we are indulged in our activities without worrying about clinic visits.

A person with poor health not only suffers physically but also loses his/her peace of mind. The regular medical attention that is required can drain your mental peace. When you have a fit mind and a healthy body, you can find the motivation to achieve your goals. You can enjoy life to its fullest.

You get to spend time with your friends and families. This also impacts your surroundings. Everything feels positive and happy. This proves the above-mentioned saying. You can live without money, but you cannot live without good health. Life is full of surprises. Some days are good and some days are bad. Good health gives you the capability to fight against all the odds and succeed in life. It encourages you to fight the challenges. It enables you to work hard.

Health has a great role to play in our emotional state of mind. Mental health is equally as important as physical health. You might not have a huge bank balance, but if you are healthy, you will always have a sound sleep. Many people in our world are rich, but they lead a life full of anxiety.

How do you lead a Healthy Lifestyle?

If you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you need to be consistent in your habits. You also need to be disciplined to follow your routines. We have mentioned a couple of things which will help you achieve this.

  • The first habit you need to adopt is daily exercise. Physical fitness is really important for your strength of body and mind. It helps you gain confidence and makes you a stronger individual. Investing ten minutes to go for a walk or to climb up and down the stairs can be helpful.
  • Yoga and meditation can also work wonders. They not only bring inner peace but also benefit your overall health. Spending time outside in the presence of nature can relieve stress. They work wonders on people suffering from depression and anxiety.
  • Keeping your body hydrated is a must. We should drink seven to eight glasses of water throughout the day. This is beneficial for our internal organs and also for our skin.
  • A balanced meal is greatly required for leading a healthy life. Our entire metabolism depends on it. You should eat fresh fruits and green vegetables. You should also include supplements of high protein, vitamins, and minerals in your diet. Nutritious food helps you fight against diseases.
  • Skipping meals is not a good practice. Avoid excessive dieting. People these days tend to strain themselves with extreme diets. This may lead to heavyweight loss and severe conditions like anorexia.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol, cigarettes or drugs. They take a toll on your mental health and can also destroy your lungs and liver.
  • Good hygiene is equally important. Living in an unhealthy environment lowers your immunity and makes you prone to ailments. Thus, cleanliness is vital for maintaining a healthy life. An adequate amount of sleep is required for our body to function properly. You must sleep at least six to eight hours a day.
  • Do not over stress yourself. You must socialise with your friends and family. When you feel anxious, talking about it helps. It keeps your mind calm and makes you relaxed.
  • Visiting a doctor for a timely medical checkup is important. Try to fix an appointment every two to three months. This will ensure your health is on the check and will prevent health ailments.

The basic laws of good health are related to the food we eat, the amount of physical exercise we do, our cleanliness, rest, and relaxation. Introduction

The Dalai Lama once said that people sacrifice their health to make money, and then sacrifice money to regain their health. This highlights how many neglect their mental well-being in the pursuit of wealth. Some even work non-stop, forgetting to enjoy life. However, it's important to find balance. Prioritize your health—mentally, physically, and emotionally. No one can help you unless you choose to live fully in the present. The strength to live well comes from within, and it’s up to you to maintain that balance and happiness.

Health is Wealth - Why it is Important to Maintain Good Health

We live in a fast-paced world where the internet keeps us connected 24/7, and multitasking has become the norm. In this rush to meet responsibilities, we often neglect our health, leading to potential breakdowns that remind us of the saying, "Health is Wealth."

In the past, life was simpler, with more physical activity and healthier food choices. Today, modern conveniences and demanding schedules have led to less exercise, poor eating habits, and unhealthy lifestyles, increasing the risk of diseases like obesity , diabetes, and heart issues.

It's crucial to focus on our health through moderation in diet, regular exercise, and a balanced work-life routine. Good health enhances decision-making and success in life. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle requires strong self-control, as changing habits, such as quitting smoking or drinking, is often challenging. Research shows that many struggle to make these changes, underscoring the difficulty of adopting healthier behaviours.

Importance of Good Health

A healthy body has all the major components that help in the proper functioning of the body. The essential component is the state of physical health. Your life term extends when you maintain good physical fitness. If you are committed to exercising with a sensible diet, then you can develop a sense of well-being and can even prevent yourself from chronic illness, disability, and premature death .

Along with physical fitness, a good mental state is also essential for good health. Mental health means the emotional and psychological state of an individual. The best way to maintain good mental health is by staying positive and meditating.

However, unlike a machine, the body needs rest at regular intervals. A minimum of six to seven hours of sleep is necessary for the body to function optimally. Drinking plenty of water and a balanced diet is also very important for your body. If you violate the basic laws of good health, like working late hours, ignoring physical exercise, eating junk food, it will lead to various ailments like hypertension , heart attacks, and other deadly diseases.

What is National Health Day?

Every year on April 7th, World Health Day is celebrated. The World Health Organization (WHO) hosted the inaugural World Health Day on April 7, 1950, to draw the entire world’s attention to global health.

Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) comes up with a new theme for public awareness, such as "Support Nurses and Midwives" in 2020. This supports the situation of COVID-19, where healthcare workers are saving lives day and night without worrying about their health.

The WHO also operates a global health promotion initiative to align equality so that individuals can take control of their lives, "every life matters," and consider their fitness. The government promotes numerous health policies, including food security , workplace quality, and health literacy, in schools, colleges, workplaces, and various community activities.

Good Health for Children

Children need to maintain good physical and mental health. With an increase in the pressure of studies and over-indulgence in modern gadgets, children are losing the most precious thing, which is health. These days, they barely play in the playgrounds, they are more inclined towards junk food and spend more time on the screen. These unhealthy activities are slowly sabotaging their health. Parents should concentrate on the physical and mental health of their children, and inculcate good habits for maintaining a healthy lifestyle from a tender age.

Cleanliness also has a major role to play in maintaining good health. Taking a bath every day, washing hands before eating meals, brushing twice a day, changing clothes regularly, etc. are important habits to maintain good health.

Society is witnessing gloomy faces as a result of children and their parents' excessive usage of a computer, mobile phone, and the Internet. They are constantly using these technological items, oblivious to the fact that they may harm their health. Teenagers are frequently discovered engrossed in their electronic devices, resulting in mishaps.

The usage of electronic devices frequently results in anxiety and hostility. Excessive usage of these products has been linked to cancer , vision loss, weight gain, and insomnia .

Emotional development is another crucial component that should not be disregarded because it determines whether or not a person is healthy. An emotionally healthy person should have a solid sense of logic, realisation, and a realistic outlook.

Why is Health so Important?

The health of a person includes their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. A person's surroundings have a big impact on their overall health. While people often focus mainly on their physical health, it’s just as important to take care of their mental and emotional health to stay truly healthy.

Many people prioritise working hard to earn money and pay little attention to their health. However, without good health, it’s impossible to do the things we want to achieve. To raise awareness about the importance of health, organisations and governments worldwide run social and online campaigns.

Everyone has the right to basic health care, regardless of their economic or social status. Staying healthy is key to living a fulfilling and productive life. In today’s world, where social media , junk food, and work dominate our lives, it’s easy to neglect our health and fitness. Studies show that more and more people are being hospitalised for various illnesses. With the added risk of the pandemic , it’s more important than ever to take care of our physical, mental, and emotional health. People need to realise that no amount of money can replace the ability to be physically and mentally active.

"Health is Wealth" is a timeless saying that highlights the importance of maintaining good health. Without good health, wealth and success mean little. A healthy body and mind enable us to enjoy life fully, perform daily tasks effectively, and pursue our goals with energy and focus. In today’s fast-paced world, people often neglect their health, prioritising work and material gains. This leads to stress, illness, and a diminished quality of life. Maintaining a balanced lifestyle that includes regular exercise, a nutritious diet, and mental well-being is essential for a fulfilling life. Poor health can lead to costly medical bills and lost opportunities, proving that no amount of money can replace the value of good health. Therefore, it's crucial to prioritise health, as it forms the foundation for true wealth, happiness, and long-term success. Remember, investing in your health is the best investment you can make.

Therefore, when a plant is planted the most care is taken of its roots. In the same manner, if we need to take care of our wealth we need to take utmost care of our health.

ESSAY FOR SENIOR SCHOOL/BOARD EXAMINATION:

Imagine yourself to be immortal? Or to live a long life? Or to smile happily each day? Yes! It is health. It is health that lets you be immortal, it is your health that lets you smile happily each day and live the greatest heights of yourself. So, health is the biggest luxury in life. Maintaining good health is one of the tough factors that One has to go through. One needs to maintain fitness by regularly doing exercises, drinking good water and healthy food each day. If one maintains a happy healthy state then one needs to maintain the body.

Stop trying to be lazy, because being lazy will never let anyone fetch his dreams. Try to be very prompt and be conscious of your mind. Working hard by keeping yourself would let you focus on your dreams and separate you from the multitudes. Going to the doctor’s every day and taking appointments would let you rather lose your wealth instead of maintaining it.

By the words of Dalai Lama, the greatest monk, “Man has very strange humanity and it surprised me the most. At first, he loses his health in order to make money, and then he uses his money in order to recuperate his health.”It is very truly said that people at the first start using their health and work day and night in order to reach a very high position. They earn a lot of money and then they start using that money in order to get back healthy health.

But remaining balanced is your capability. Balance each day’s work with your fitness. Always try to maintain a happy as well as a focused routine. One has to work with proper planning. One needs to anyhow maintain a healthy mental, physical and emotional state and it is by this means that no professional or a counsellor can help you out until you have the urge to live. The urge to live and to make use of the present brings out the perfect power in you and it is you who can never let yourself break down.

Our ambiance plays a significant role in our health because we get to face a lot of pollution may be air, water, wind and we get exposed to a lot of pollution and contamination each day. But even in the tough times, we can do it if we have the will to be clean and tidy. God even stays with those people who remain tidy and clean. Because those people are strong enough to stand. Therefore, maintain your health and thereby maintain your wealth.

ESSAY FOR CLASS 12th/ COLLEGE/PROFESSIONAL FIELD:

The older the proverb  ‘health is wealth ‘becomes the newer the significance of it is being defined. The connotation of ‘ health is wealth ‘ apparently seems to be very simple that is physical fitness which should be our prime concern since it is the most precious gift of God. but in the modern epoch does the meaning of the proverb is still confined to sound health only?  The controversy arises and rarely does it stop.

Physical fitness may be the mark of good health and it is the most expensive asset that a mortal possesses. It is a temple as has been defined by Shakespeare since it is the platform of maintaining spiritual thoughts and ideas too. A  healthy body is a containment zone of the strength of mind and positive energy.

If we flip through the pages of our medication practices of ancient times, the grand contribution in this field was made by Charaka and Sushruta & there in the Ayurvedic practices did advise us to keep our body and mind feet and fine all the time .it  is often heard ‘ early to bed and early to rise to keep the body healthy wealthy and wise’ so waking up early in the morning and doing some exercises and walking for half an hour at least may not adversely affect anyone’s body, rather it makes one vibrant and vivacious.

Regular taking a bath, washing clothes is another good habit which may prevent one from being affected by any serious illness. Food habit is another part which should be taken into account to leave lively and jovial. Junk food adds spicy food may not help to build a strong body and mind. According to the Gita, food habit matters a lot in the formation of a person’s personality.

The people who are prone to fresh and pure food grow as Swastik and those who like spicy food along with non-veg, grow as Rajasik and while others are interested in decayed and stale food, they are known as tamarisk to mask. So a person’s intellectual growth depends on his food habit which ultimately leads to his all-around development. The mere absence of ailment may not lead to a happy or healthy life of him. This, in order to be healthy on, has to be mentally, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually healthy.

Due to the excessive use of a computer, mobile and Internet by the children and their parents are dark faces is being witnessed by society. Becoming quite an oblivion of the fact that these electronic goods may damage their health, they are frequently using it. Teenagers are often found to be busy with their electronic goods and met with accidents.

Anxiety and aggression are the fruit of the frequent use of electronic products. The excessive use of these items often leads to cancer, loss of vision, weight gain, and insomnia.

Emotional development is another important factor that cannot be overlooked it makes an individual a healthy one. An emotionally healthy person should have a good sense of reasoning, realization, and a realistic approach.

A socially healthy person can be one who has the ability to communicate properly and connect himself with others easily. Forgetting his ego he can easily mix with the person in front with a positive vibe and energy. To maintain a healthy relationship with the person in particular and society as a whole. He treats others with dignity and honors ultimately derives all sorts of pleasure and happiness in life. Thus he freezes him from all kinds of diseases and negativity.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy which indicates that only work or study may not help a person to lead a very happy life rather it makes life very monotonous and boring to get relief out of it or from the boredom of daily or routine life sports and games cannot be ignored rather it plays a major role for the development of an individual.

Each and every human being should join in sports and games and get free themselves from the daily boring routine life. It is because sports and games help man to evoke a spirit of unity, develop leadership quality and make a man perfectly disciplined man aims to accumulate wealth to become rich. Everyone dreams of having a treasure trove and becoming a millionaire but if a man loses his health all his dreams shattered and efforts were undertaken during his life go in the way.

Hence sound health is necessary which can be considered as a source of a healthy mind and a healthy lifestyle.

Epidemiologist’s report says that wealth will grow prominently when one should fit in every aspect, well-being not only the physical fitness, it’s also a development of mental, social as well as emotional fitness. There is a saying, ” health is a valuable treasure of life ”, first fitness leads a direction of successful living. Success cannot be enjoyed without it.

To emphasize, the self-control motto, a “Take Control Campaign” comes into the role.

Poverty: is one of the critical factors, which is the root cause of serious consequences of poor health. Most infectious diseases, airborne diseases kill millions of poor people, lack clean food, water, and proper sanitation. Unavailability of the proper healthcare system for them, not even took the vaccination for their children. The government should take necessary steps for the development, by reduction of poverty, improving quality of food and water, and also provide proper sanitation, it can safe millions of lives and also stop the spread of many air-borne diseases, leprosy, etc.

Environmental factor affects health: there is various health-related illness, for example, asthma, malaria, typhoid, depression, pulmonary diseases, etc. To some extend human life is responsible for environmental hazards, for an instance, the production of food by using pesticides and fertilizers damages the environment, by eating these chemicals filled food is the main reason for causing cancer, and by deforestation, pollution increases which is the major cause of asthma, many heart problems, and there are so many examples are present.

Nowadays, people spend lots of money on medical advisors, various doctor consultations, to take better care of their health.

So always care for health, as you care for wealth because health is wealth.

The term is coined by the famous counselor and guide, Ralph Waldo Emerson.

If a man starts to choose to live a lifestyle without a plan or in an unhealthy manner then, he has to face a lot of problems. Mentally he would be depressed and physically he would be untidy and dirty and emotionally he would be always unstable. An unhealthy life would let a person wake up late at night and wake up late in the morning. This would not only swing their mental state but also pollute their environment. One would face a lot of anger and sorrow and sometimes they would have fits.

Each year on the seventh of April, the whole world celebrates World Health Day as a recognition of the biggest precious gift of this life.

Health is Wealth Essay in English

An essay is a piece of writing that revolves around a particular theme and contains the academic opinions of the person writing it. A basic essay mainly consists of three parts: Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.

It is said that “A healthy man is a wealthy one”. But man needs to keep his body and mind fit and healthy. ‘Health is Wealth Essay in English’ will tell you everything you want to know about health.

Health is Wealth Essay in English

Health is Wealth Essay in English (900+ Words)

Taking care of our health is crucial for leading a prosperous life. Unlike other creatures, humans are known for their exceptional intelligence, which allows them to control nature. However, our mental and physical well-being must be maintained to stay fit and healthy. It is said that “Health is wealth,” as regular exercise helps us stay fit and keeps our minds sharp. Good health ensures a lively and active mind and affects our emotional well-being.

Recent studies indicate that the fast-paced lifestyle of today’s world has resulted in various health problems, such as heart and neurological disorders. Maintaining good health enables us to maintain a positive outlook on work and life in general.

Regardless of the difficulties and obstacles we face, life should be lived happily and positively. To enjoy life’s pleasures, we need the energy and enthusiasm that only a healthy body can provide.

Maintaining good health for children begins from their infancy and relies heavily on the health of their mother and the cleanliness of their environment. A balanced diet containing essential nutrients is crucial for both the mother and the baby. It’s vital to prevent serious diseases like polio, diphtheria , and typhoid to keep children healthy.

Parents cherish their children and hope for their physical and mental growth. While it’s their primary responsibility to care for their children, everyone else is equally responsible for ensuring their good health. Children are the future of the country and society, so it’s essential to provide them with adequate care.

A healthy child grows into a healthy adult. A well-rounded development during childhood lays the foundation for their future capabilities and contributions to society. Therefore, it’s beneficial for educators, neighbors, friends, athletes, teachers, physical and mental trainers, the media, social workers, doctors, and gymnasts to play an active role in inspiring children toward good health.

In school, children have the opportunity to develop both their physical and mental capabilities. Good health has always been essential, but it’s even more critical in this competitive age where modern requirements demand it. Nowadays, life is fast-paced and stressful, starting from an early age.

The educational curriculum is extensive, and children are expected to meet high standards, with competitions becoming more challenging every day. Under these conditions, students need to study hard and sit in the classroom for long periods. Therefore, educational institutions should prioritize physical exercise and entertainment programs for students to learn well and maintain good health.

A good school or educational institution is one that provides students with adequate facilities for sports and other activities that promote physical exercise and entertainment. After long periods of mental work, students need outdoor exercise to refresh their minds.

A young person with a good academic record and sound health is more likely to achieve their goals in life, regardless of their chosen career. Good education and good health enable people to face challenges with confidence, leading to progress and the desired outcome.

Having good health is essential for better performance and outcomes in life, regardless of the profession one belongs to. Both physical and mental health are equally significant in this regard. Everyone should prioritize taking care of their health to become a result-oriented individual.

Even an unskilled person can manage their job well with the help of good health. We can observe several physically fit individuals working on farms all day, using their energy to earn a living for themselves and their families. This gives them mental satisfaction and a restful night’s sleep. Furthermore, a physically strong and intelligent person can provide better assistance to society and gain appreciation from others.

Several professions require good health as the primary eligibility criterion. A well-built and mentally fit individual can perform better in the armed forces, paramilitary, police, and other similar forces. We have seen numerous individuals in these forces decorated with awards for their extraordinary performance and heroic acts under incredibly challenging conditions.

There are several job opportunities available for healthy individuals. Even in the private sector, where professional skill is the primary criterion, companies seek individuals with a strong and healthy appearance. Good health has extraordinary value everywhere, and it pays off for an individual throughout their life.

When a person’s mind is filled with disappointment and negativity, it shows on their face. On the other hand, a healthy mind with positive thoughts brings a sparkle to their face. The connection between the mind and body is strong, and they continuously influence each other. If not controlled, they can trigger a cycle of reactions.

Good health is valuable and should be improved, especially in areas where people are suffering due to the lack of healthcare facilities. In many rural areas, hospitals run without doctors and medicines, and people with multiple diseases or injuries do not receive proper treatment. The cost of treatment in private hospitals for major diseases is too high for poor people to afford.

Improving healthcare facilities alone cannot solve the issue. People need to be aware of the importance of regular physical exercise for sound health and efficiency at work. Joining gymnasiums and yoga camps can also help improve health. This can inspire others to adopt healthy habits and stay disease-free.

If a person can free their mind from negative thoughts like self-indulgence, they can motivate themselves to improve their body. This can help them overcome illnesses that have psychological origins. Good health can lead to a better mind.

Health is Wealth Essay

I am sure you are probably hearing the saying “Health is Wealth” while growing up. However, it is also important to understand the actual meaning and concept behind this term. Most of us think that ‘Health is Wealth’ means living a life without any disease or illness. While this is partly true, there is a lot more associated with this term.

Health is Wealth means that a person should lead a healthy lifestyle, including his physical and mental health and personal hygiene. For example, let’s suppose that you don’t have any illness, but you are still living on junk food; yes, that is not a healthy lifestyle. In fact, you need to adopt a healthy diet routine and timetable while minimizing the amount of junk food as much as you can.

Your health is a precious thing and a priceless gift to you by God, and you should cherish and protect it at all times. In simple words, taking care of your health should not be an option; it should be a necessity. To justify the phrase ‘Health is wealth’, you need to take care of your physical fitness, cleanliness, and your mind. Doing physical exercise, eating healthy foods, and being confident & relaxed are the key elements to a healthy lifestyle.

Introduction

A wise man once said, “We sacrifice our physical and mental health to make money, then we spend that money on regaining the health after it is damaged, and the cycle goes on.” This statement means that we damage our health by working 24/7, and when we die, that is when we realize that we never really lived. And this is exactly what we should not do. You may have all the luxuries in the world, but you have nothing if you don’t have good health.

Life is all about balancing different things and aspects, just like work and your health. You can build a balance between mental & physical fitness and your work. As we all know about the popular and common saying that “Health is Wealth”. It is as true as our life. Good health keeps us always happy and gives us feeling of complete physical, mental, social and intellectual well-being. A good health keeps us away from the diseases and health disorders. A great freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi (also called Bapu) has said that “It is health which is real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver”.

A good health helps us to life a good, balanced and healthy life. Our good health needs several things to get done on daily basis. The meaning of most common saying “health is wealth” is very simple and easy. It means our good health is the real wealth of our life which gives us good physique and mind and enables us to enjoy whole life by managing its all challenges. Good health promotes a good mental, physical and social health. I completely agree with this saying that health is actually a true wealth as it helps us at all. A good health keeps us away from the metal and physical disabilities as well as other medical conditions including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, fatal diseases, etc.

A physically or internally unfit person has to face lot of challenges in the whole life even she/he has to be depend on someone else for performing daily basic needs. This situation is quite embarrassing for one who faces it. So, it is good at all to maintain a good health forever to be happy forever without anyone’s help. It is true that to maintain a good health we need money and to earn money we need good health. But it is also true that without money we can live life and without a good health we cannot live life happily. Because our good health helps us all the time and encourages us to do something better in our life, instead of earning money only.

We have to perform multiple tasks throughout the day in order to earn more money however we forget that good health is as necessary for our healthy life as air and water for the body. We forget to take proper food in timely manner, daily exercises, proper rest, etc to just earn some false wealth. We should never forget that our health is a real wealth of the life. It is true for all that Health is Wealth.

A good health reduces the stress level and promotes healthy life without any sufferings. We should always be aware of our health and go for regular health check-up. We should eat balanced food having fresh fruits, salad, green leafy vegetables, milk, egg, dahi, etc in timely manner in order to maintain the good health. In earlier days, life was not so hectic. It was quite simple and free of too many challenges with healthy environment in comparison to these days. People were healthy as they had to perform all the daily routine activities by their own hand and body. But now, life in the technological world has become easy and comfortable but hectic because of the competitions. Now-a-days, easy life is not possible as everyone wants to earn more money to get better life than others. Now-a-days, living life has become costly and tough as well as unhealthy as everything like air, water, environment, food, etc has become contaminated, infected and polluted.

People have to work for at least 9 to 10 hours in the offices by just sitting on the chair without any physical movement. They come to home in the late evening or night and become too tired to perform any household work or exercise. Again in the morning they get up late from bed and do some necessary works like bath, brush, breakfast, etc and go to their office. In this way, they live their daily routine only to earn money and not their life for themselves. It is very necessary to earn money for fulfilling some basic needs however, it is also necessary to live a healthy and peaceful life which needs a good health.

3 Minute Speech on Health is Wealth

Short speech on health is wealth.

Health is the biggest wealth for a human being in his/her entire lifetime. One can survive without excess money but can’t survive without good health. Health is something that we can’t buy with money but we can take care of it and we can cure it when needed with the help of the money. If a person is not having good health, he will not be able to enjoy his/her life to the fullest. Money doesn’t make a person rich and happy but good health does. Moreover, a person can’t feel complete and happy without good health.

speech on health is wealth

Good health is one of the main elements of happiness that a person needs in his/her life. We can see various people around us that are happy without having a lot of money. However, they are happy because they have good health and they enjoy their lives. We can also see many people that are having a lot of money and are rich enough to buy anything they want but still, they are not totally happy. Moreover, they are not satisfied with their lives. The reason behind the sadness of the rich people is mostly that they don’t have good health and they worry about this thing a lot. However, they can’t buy good health with their money.

How to get a Healthy Life?

If someone wants perfect health then, first of all, he/she has to improve the quality of the thoughts that generate and occur in their minds. When a person thinks positively then he\she improves his\her chemistry from within. For a healthy lifestyle, one should follow many rules and should also sacrifice many things in their daily routines. On the other hand, if a person spends half an hour on exercise daily then he/she will be able to eliminate the toxicity from the body.

The Problem With Saying Suicide Is Preventable

illustration of mind prison surreal abstract concept

W hen I left my father’s condo for the airport on a sunny March day in 2018, I did not once think that he might kill himself. Yes, his depression had returned, dense and unsteadying. But he had just come home from a week of voluntary inpatient care at the psychiatric hospital. He had a psychiatrist, an acupuncturist, and a sunlamp. During my visit, I drove him to his outpatient group therapy. We played Scrabble and listened to 80s dance hits.

What I saw when I spent that week with my father was a man doing everything he could to shrug the mantle of depression from his shoulders. But within 48 hours of me leaving, my father ended his life.

He was one of more than 48,000 Americans who died by suicide in 2018, a then-record that has since been surpassed by steadily rising suicide rates in the midst of a mental health crisis the surgeon general called “ the defining public health crisis of our time .”

As this crisis rages on, we have made strides in fighting suicide, like the 988 lifeline and increased barriers on bridges and high structures throughout the United States. This spring, the Biden administration released a new 10-year strategy for suicide prevention . These improvements bolster the declaration that now feels ubiquitous in mental health messaging: suicide is preventable . But that phrase masks a nuanced, persistent reality of suicide that we must acknowledge.

Read More: America Has Reached Peak Therapy. Why Is Our Mental Health Getting Worse?

Though well-intentioned, the truth is that not all suicides can be stopped, even with the best efforts. But right after my father’s death, everywhere I looked I read that suicide is preventable. This instilled an immediate, unconscious conviction in me of a double failure: my father, who had not done enough to save himself, and those of us who loved him most, who had not done enough, either. Collectively we could have deterred his death. But we did not.

In the months following my father’s death, I channeled my guilt into an obsessive energy toward understanding and advocating for suicide prevention. I fundraised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention , lobbied for policy change in Tennessee, and charted my father’s risk factors against his protective factors , certain I would find the tipping point where he should have gone left instead of right—where I should have stayed, instead of left him.

Alongside the insistence that suicide can be stopped lie reminders for survivors not to feel guilty or blame themselves, a request that feels impossible, as you’re handed checklists of preventative measures. But it is not only for the sake of those left behind that we should add nuance to what we mean when we say suicide is preventable.

The crux of the issue with blanketing suicide as something that can be stopped is that it flattens one of the most confounding psychological, medical, and philosophical questions of being human into something simpler than its reality. Perhaps one day we will be able to say that, with the right blueprint, suicide is preventable. But we do not have the knowledge, let alone the resources, to make that true now.

Today I imagine my father on a precipice, teetering between life and death. I will never know exactly why he fell one way and not the other, in the same way we do not know what causes one person to take their life and another to not. We do not know whether the seeds of suicidality are planted moments before a person decides to die, or decades. For each individual, it is different. But it is not something we can cut open on the autopsy table, tracing its progression and tearing it out at the root.

This does not mean suicide prevention efforts are futile. One of the few, but most encouraging, empirically backed strategies to reduce suicide deaths is limiting access to lethal means —hence the importance of bridge barriers, firearms safety, and safe medication storage. But as my therapist reminded me after my father’s death, people have still found ways to end their lives while in the middle of inpatient mental health treatment. There were no guarantees that anything I might have done would have stopped my father’s death.

At first, I interpreted his reminder as bleak. But over time, I started to see the way that my obsession with what could have gone differently dehumanized my father. It was both more painful and more honest when I began to accept that my father’s reality was different from my own. I would have given anything for him to still be alive, but I also did not want to deny what life was like for him. In a world still riddled with stigma against mental illness, those who die by and attempt suicide deserve the dignity of us acknowledging their pain as real.

This is a scary thing to admit, to both validate the severity of psychological crisis without dismissing suicide deaths as inevitable. And though I want us to add nuance to our language around suicide prevention, I do not believe the suicide epidemic is unstoppable. But we need more than better quality and access to mental health care (which, we do need)—we also must frame mental health as something inclusive of trauma, poverty, substance abuse, and economic, food, and housing insecurity. We need to intercept suicide far before the crisis moment.

Take, for instance, Italy’s community-centered Trieste model , where people in mental health crisis are directed to short-term stays in peer-managed housing that is more similar to a home than a hospital. The Trieste model also focuses on meeting patients’ basic needs, like food, clothing, housing, and jobs. In the U.S., California awarded $116 million to launch a pilot program replicating the Trieste model in Los Angeles. But the program has been stalled since it received funding in 2019, and remains under revision. More concentrated efforts, like free school lunch programs that have been shown to improve student mental health, can help address some destabilizing factors with more immediacy as larger systemic changes take hold.

We can also expand therapeutic interventions in a system that does not have enough clinicians to meet the needs of a worsening mental illness epidemic. Earlier in 2024, Alaska passed a law requiring mental health curricula in public schools, following in the wake of states like New York and Virginia. Alabama high-schoolers have been testing a self-guided pilot program to improve mental health literacy before crisis, which research has shown works .  These kinds of approaches contribute to a broader ecosystem of knowledge and resources that help reduce how many people reach a crisis point to begin with.

Acknowledging that, currently, suicide is not always preventable alleviates the burden for survivors wondering what we did wrong. It also honors that what the world is like for those who die by suicide is real to them, rather than implying that they failed in not doing more to help themselves. And it allows us to admit how much we still don’t know, giving us space to create more holistic, expansive solutions for all that mental health care can be.

When I stopped focusing over what might have prevented my father’s suicide, my perception of his life burst open into so much more than how he died. His death had made me question whether any of the joy and laughter and car sing-a-longs I’d shared with him in the days before were real. But once I accepted that his suicide was both his choice to make, and just one part of his story, I recognized that his depression did not invalidate all the other things that drove him. Like showing up for the people he loved, solving problems, and creating beauty around him. The way he died does not diminish how dedicated he was to growth and evolution, and it does not invalidate the countless ways he chose to live.

I have hope that, with continued research, interventions, and destigmatization, suicide deaths will decline. But I also have peace knowing that my father’s death is not defined by what he or I did wrong, but instead is one of the many continuing unknowns we must make space for in how we speak about mental health.

Treasury recovers $1.3 billion in unpaid taxes from high-wealth tax dodgers

WASHINGTON (AP) — The IRS has collected $1.3 billion from high-wealth tax dodgers since last fall, the agency announced Friday, crediting spending that has ramped up collection enforcement through President Joe Biden’s signature climate, health care and tax package signed into law in 2022.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel traveled to Austin, Texas, to tour an IRS campus and announce the latest milestone in tax collections as Republicans warn of big future budget cuts for the tax agency if they take over the White House and Congress.

Yellen said in a speech in Austin that in 2019, the top one percent of wealthy Americans owed more than one-fifth of all unpaid taxes, “leaving ordinary Americans to shoulder the burden.”

“To fix this, we’ve channeled IRS funding toward significant investments to combat tax evasion,” she said.

In 2023 and 2024 the IRS launched a series of initiatives aimed at pursuing high-wealth individuals who have failed to pay their tax debts. The IRS said the campaign is focused on taxpayers with more than $1 million in income and more than $250,000 in recognized tax debt.

Image

Agency officials said since the program’s launch, almost 80% of the 1,600 millionaires targeted by the IRS for failing to pay a delinquent tax debt have now made a payment, leading to over $1.1 billion recovered. And in the first six months of a new February 2024 initiative, the IRS collected $172 million from 21,000 wealthy taxpayers who have not filed tax returns since 2017.

Republicans have called for funding for the IRS to be cut.

Donald Trump’s campaign for president said he would drastically reduce spending on federal agencies — and that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris “cast the tiebreaking vote to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to go after your tip income.”

That debunked claim comes from a plan the Treasury Department proposed in 2021 to bring on that many IRS employees over the next decade if it got the money. At least 50,000 IRS employees are expected to retire over the next five years.

The National Taxpayer Advocate, the independent IRS watchdog, issued a 2023 annual report stating that the IRS employs roughly 681 armed agents .

In its efforts to modernize, the agency this year also launched a program called Direct File, which allows people with very simple W-2s to calculate and submit their returns directly to the IRS. The IRS said in April that those using the program claimed more than $90 million in refunds.

While the program included 12 participating states in the 2024 tax filing season, more states have joined in for the 2025 tax season, including Maryland, Oregon, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Connecticut, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Maine.

“ Doing more cancer screening won’t reduce Black-white health disparities ,” by Adewole Adamson, Vishal Patel, and H. Gilbert Welch

The response.

The op-ed unfairly and dangerously diminishes the value of cancer screening in reducing health disparities. As the writers acknowledge, numerous, complex factors contribute to poorer outcomes for Black patients than for white patients. Long-standing problems — like structural racism, poverty, lack of health insurance, and reduced care access — lead to poorer health and outcomes. Medtech innovators have forcefully advocated for Medicare, and other, policies to facilitate patient access to technologies, both established and emerging — including cancer screening — and are developing devices that are faster, more accurate, and more accessible than before. Cervical cancer screening kits for home use are in development. AI-enabled medtech devices are achieving more accurate diagnoses and helping clinicians find appropriate care pathways.

These devices have tremendous potential to reduce the number of tests needed for accurate diagnoses and to direct patients to the best care. Early detection can directly impact patient outcomes, treatment options, and financial burden. A patient whose cancer is detected early may have a better prognosis and may require less aggressive and/or less lengthy care. Longer care can be especially financially debilitating for under-resourced patients. Equal or higher rates of screening for Black patients relative to white patients is a positive development. It reflects years of dedicated advocacy toward getting patients what they need.

Of course, the work is far from over. For example, women with dense breast tissue need screening beyond mammograms, and access to supplemental screening is inadequate. Addressing health disparities in cancer diagnoses and care requires a comprehensive approach, and screening plays a vital role.

So rather than cast screening as the enemy, we should promote it alongside the necessary steps preceding and following it. Maybe screening gets an under-resourced patient in the door. If there’s a cancer diagnosis, the next step should be ensuring access to appropriate treatment, not devaluing the screening that led to the diagnosis.

The authors would have patients question the value of screening. Will that accomplish better health? Instead of dismissing cancer screening, which has been shown to work, those with a voice in health care debates should continue promoting equal access to all the resources that improve patient health.

“ Why you may not need a checkup every year ,” by Daniel Morgan

Dr. Morgan describes a health care philosophy embraced by many physicians. We are cogs in a medicoeconomic system that pays no heed to the interests of the patient. The chaos is united in only one central concept: financial gain. Any practicing physician must acknowledge this reality. Dr. Morgan gives more voice to those in the profession who have grown weary of the inherent conflicts of trying to practice good medicine, while at the same time being inundated with perverse incentives which feeds the bottom line.

— Walter Bortz

“ To stop mpox from becoming the next pandemic, we must address global vaccine inequities ,” by Wilfredo R. Matias

“Have we learned nothing from Covid-19?” That’s the right question, but Dr. Matias reaches the wrong conclusion. The real lesson is not to rely on the World Health Organization to look after the needs of developing nations. In the case of mpox, there isn’t a vaccine shortage. Both Bavarian Nordic (the manufacturer of the adult vaccine) and KM Biologics (manufacturer of the mpox vaccine for children) are ready and willing to ship their products to nations such as the Congo. What’s standing in their way is the unwillingness of the WHO to “precertify” that these products are safe and effective. Now the WHO says countries can begin to negotiate pricing before their process is complete. The WHO is in over its head. It is neither staffed nor financially resourced to undertake a thorough review of vaccine data — unlike either the European Medicines Agency or the Food and Drug Administration.

The WHO should step aside and let the expert judgment of gold standard global regulators expedite delivery to the Congo and other nations in Africa and elsewhere. Vaccine “prequalification” is a joke — a dangerous one — and a lesson we should have learned from the WHO’s debacle during the Covid-19 pandemic.

— Peter Pitts, Center for Medicine in the Public Interest

“ Health care price regulation is undemocratic ,” by Ge Bai

A for-profit health care system is immoral and amoral. It matters not that price regulation is undemocratic, it’s just necessary.

— Bruce Saunders

In general I agree with this opinion. However, in order to have competition, the consumer/prospective consumer needs to have adequate understandable information regarding the likely cost between providers, and there needs to be a bare minimum of providers competing with each other. In many nonurban areas, there is no real competition due to a shortage of providers for many services — and for some specialties there is no real competition even in major metros. These situations exist with or without any price regulation or incentives. And in order to have real competition, providers must be more transparent than they are — for most services there is little true transparency even after the recent transparency requirements were imposed. So if we are going to back off of pricing regulations, we will need a corresponding improvement in true transparency for competition to become a reality.

— Patrick Pine, Robert F. Kennedy Farmworkers Medical Plan

“ A harm-reduction approach to eating out ,” by Sophia Hua

Portion control is a key factor in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, so the author’s exhortation to restaurants to offer two size options is sound. For those with just a bit of willpower, however, there’s another alternative: the doggie bag. When the plate of food arrives, just divide it all in half and take home the leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner. This limits calorie intake and proves a better bargain when the check arrives.

— Alison Sneider
