1-Minute Speech on Environmental Awareness

‘Good morning to everyone present her. Today, I stand before you to present my speech on environmental awareness. Environment refers to the world around us. If we have to keep ourselves safe, we must keep our environment safe. Therefore, environmental awareness is an important topic and we must take our decision in the right direction.

Overpopulation, degradation of the natural environment, pollution of rivers and water bodies, deforestation, etc. are major factors affecting our natural environment. Nature is paying the price of careless human activities.

From individuals to large organizations,  everyone must work hand in hand to enact and enforce policies that prioritize environmental sustainability. Using public transport can help reduce air pollution. Using the blue dustbin for dry waste and the green dustbin for wet waste can help in waste management. Avoiding single-use plastics, switching off appliances when not in use, using renewable energy like solar and wind energy, and planting more trees can greatly improve environmental health.’

‘So let’s take care of our mother nature and work on a greener, healthier, and sustainable environment because our environment’s health is our health.’

2-Minute Speech on Environmental Awareness

‘Good morning my teacher and my friends. Today, I stand before you to present my speech on environmental awareness. We only have one home; our environment. Yet, we are damaging it at an alarming rate. According to a report released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 881 animal species have gone extinct since 1900.’

‘Environment awareness is important because it helps us understand the current state of the environment, including the causes and consequences of environmental problems, is fundamental to environmental awareness.’

‘The environment is losing its natural strength. The average surface temperature is rising, trees are cut down, animal habitats are lost, and smoke is released into the air and water bodies. Our environment has gifted us with everything we needed; food, clothes, shelter, etc. Yet, today, we are the biggest threat to the natural environment. It is all because of our careless attitude towards Mother Nature.’

‘Taking care of our natural environment is our primary responsibility. Small steps like banning single-use plastics, switching off-lights appliances when not in use, closing water taps, etc. Also, adopting sustainable practices in daily life, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, using eco-friendly products, and supporting environmentally friendly initiatives can significantly improve environmental health.’

In 2019, the government of India banned single-use plastics like polyethylene bags and plastic bottles. Experts suggest that instead of using plastic bags, we can look for alternatives and eco-friendly options like paper bags or jute bags.

‘In the end, I would like to conclude by saying that adapting to environmentally friendly activities should be our top-most priority. By polluting the air that we breathe, water that we drink, and food that we eat, we are not only damaging the environment but our health too.’

SPEECH WRITING ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

Let’s break this speech writing guide on the environment into four different sections:

1. Tips to Remember Before You Write Your Speech

2. speech writing lessons on the environment: complete guide , 3. drawing inspiration from ‘great speeches on the environment’  , 4. a sample speech on the environment .

Hold on till the very end of this blog as we have a bonus tip to simplify this process, just for you.

1. Tips to Remember Before You Write your Speech

Crafting a movie requires the crew to plan everything with utmost precision and that’s exactly where the pre-production stage comes to play.

Likewise, before drafting a speech on the environment, you need to focus upon a few things to enhance the speech’s impact on your audience.

At the same time, these tips will help you to stand out in the crowd.

A) Understanding your True Purpose

know your true purpose as a speaker

You possibly cannot deliver a speech about the environment without feeling deeply about the issue.

Firstly, start by questioning yourself, ‘Why should I be concerned about  our environment ?’

Now, start looking for even the slightest changes in your lifestyle in terms of the environment.

These changes can be as evident as the scarcity of water and as ignored as the less appreciation of nature by humans.

This will provide you with the reasons as to how is the issue affecting you?

These reasons can be listed by you during the course of your speech to establish trust, credibility and relatability factor.

Get yourself aware of the urgency of the situation

Go on the internet, research the issue at hand and make yourself aware of the worst-case scenario, that is, ‘what would happen if human beings do not respond now?’

This way, you will connect with the issue emotionally and this will reflect in your voice as you deliver your speech.

You simply cannot expect your audience to feel deeply about the issue unless you yourself feel that emotional connect.

Because somewhere down the corner, we all are responsible for environmental degradation in our own ways.

This realization must first hit you before you convey this idea through your speech.

This emotional connect will reflect in the form of:

  • the content of your speech
  • vocal variety
  • body language

B) Brainstorming Session

mind mapping technique

A speech as informative as this needs to have right facts in just the right amount and at the right places.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches is that the right facts are not incorporated in the right way.

  • So, begin with researching the issue and note down the environmental facts.
  • Prepare a mind map to better organize your thoughts . Jot down the main points and make a rough skeleton of your speech.
  • Once you have done this, try thinking from an audiences’ perspective . Ask yourself, ‘If I were the audience, what would be my expectations from a speech about the environment?’ Note down those thoughts as well.

Try not to be generic while doing the brainstorming session, include the pointers other speakers have missed out on.

In order to stand unique as an orator speaking about the environment, one must learn from the mistakes made by other speakers.

Understand what exactly is your audience looking for and frame your speech accordingly.

We have written an article on How to add facts in a speech? Check it out to balance your speech about the environment with just the right facts.

C) Who is your audience?

audience analysis

A speech about the environment has a dynamic audience . Thus, it can be delivered at a school, college or even a workplace for that matter.

Understand the demographics of your audience, like age and level of education, to mold your speech accordingly.

For instance, if you are delivering a speech about the environment at school, you might want to include less jargon and break down the content in a much simpler way for the students to understand.

Similarly, if you are delivering an environmental speech at a workplace, you can incorporate jargon along with relatable lifestyle experiences to convey your ideas better.

In a nutshell, formulate the content of your speech according to the audience you are catering to.

D) Duration of the speech

Instead of beating around the bush, a good orator tries to make a long-lasting impact without taking too much time of the audience.

Thus, try to keep your speech short and precise without falling into the trap of possible digressions.

After listening to so many speeches on the environment, we all know our expectations from the next speech we listen about the environment.

Thus, most important of all, prioritize the information and interestingly present that information. This way, you give away the essential information while retaining the attention of your audience.

We have written an article on How to deliver a 1-minute speech: Tips, Examples, Topics & More . Have a look at it to make your speech memorable within a short time frame.

Once you’ve learned this, the next step is to have smooth transitions in your speech. This is done to avoid any sort of blabber and convey the ideas effectively.

To know more about smooth speech transitions, check out Effective Speech Transitions: How to Make Your Speech Flow .

A) Out-Of-The-World Title

A speech about the environment can create a certain monotony in the minds of the audience, even before you actually deliver it.

As an audience, we expect that monotony in the environmental speeches.

Thus, a boring speech title can bore your audience to sleep.

Many a times, we stumble upon a speech title we haven’t ever heard of and are naturally drawn to know more about the speech.

The major issue with most of the environmental speeches in current times is a boring title. Titles like  Speech on Save Environment and Speech on Environmental Degradation  can seem pretty daunting to the audience and might disinterest them.

Instead, consider having a thought-provoking title that doesn’t give the speech idea away so that when the audience actually listens to your speech, they pay more attention and start connecting the dots.

This way, something unusual yet related to your speech can assist you to hold the attention of your audience.

Let’s look at a few interesting speech titles. All based on the environment!

Admit it, we’ve grown old reading that water is an essential pre-requisite for the crops to survive and grow.

But, what happens when a speech title tells you otherwise? You obviously get drawn to listen to the speech.

I’m sure after reading this speech title, you are now wondering, ‘which country is she talking about?’

So, the moment you come across a speech title like this, a sense of conflict has been created in your mind and you naturally want to know more about it.

B) Catchy Introduction

A catchy introduction begins with a strong opening line while bringing into light the main idea of the speech.

The attention span of the audience is at its peak at the beginning of a speech. So, now that you know this, make sure you capitalize it!

Instead of starting your speech with something as bland as a  Good Morning , attempt hitting new approaches to grip the attention of the audience throughout the speech.

The last thing a speech topic as common as the environment needs is a bland introduction.

Thus, working on a strong beginning is the most crucial element when it comes to speech writing about environment.

Here are a few interesting ways to jump start your speech:

Start with a story

We all love listening to stories! Be it fictional or real . It’s a personality trait which we all share in common.

You can start your speech on the environment with a story inspired from your own personal experience or you can create your own story.

But, remember even while creating a story from scratch, you need to sound realistic and establish relatability . So, it’s ideal to avoid any sort of exaggeration on your part.

Once you have decided on the story you wish to tell, remember to connect your story with the environment, in general.

To assist you in this process of crafting a story, we have written an article on 9 Storytelling Approaches for Your Next Speech . Check it out to know more!

In this TED Talk, the speaker begins by telling a story about camping by revisiting his childhood days. This gripped the attention of the audience all the way more.

Bringing the Element of Creativity

Use of adequate props and placards can assist you to add real value to the audiences’ experiences, particularly in a speech about the environment.

Think out-of-the-box and bring this element of creativity the next time you deliver a speech.

By bringing this visual element, you make your speech all the more memorable.

Let’s understand this better with the help of an example.

In this TED Talk about the environment, the orator decides to begin her speech by bringing a small jar. Have a look at how well she connects this prop with the essence of her speech.

C) Relatable Anecdotes

Well, what is the point of delivering a great speech if your audience can’t relate to it?

By stating relatable life experiences, you sound more realistic and believable . As a result, the audience starts respecting your thoughts.

For instance, while delivering a speech about environmental problems and solutions, start discussing how the environmental problems have affected you and your family and what solutions you are considering to deal with it.

Essentially, convey these anecdotes in the form of a story and make sure that these anecdotes are relatable.

D) Body of the speech

Here lies the main purpose of your speech!

It is at this point that you start supporting your ideas with relevant facts and evidence .

In this case, while delivering a speech about the environment, be aware of the real purpose of your speech.

If your speech about the environment is required to list down the solutions to save the environment, try leading the solutions with the micro-level steps which we all can practice in our day-to-day lives and then move onto the solutions at a community level.

Because the major flaw with most of the environmental speeches is that we focus a lot more upon the changes at a government level rather than bringing into light the changes at the individual and community level.

It all begins at home and then the awareness is spread at a community level.

Steer clear of stating the obvious while citing supporting shreds of evidence and think innovatively to come up with information that can actually add value to audiences’ experiences.

E) Drafting a Memorable Conclusion

A captivating conclusion keeps your speech alive in the minds of the audience.

First things first, avoid ending your speech with a bland ‘thank you’.

Instead, in the concluding statement, sum up the gist of your speech and provide the audience with a key takeaway.

To maximize the impact of your concluding remarks, end your speech with a poem or an intriguing question, and leave your audience awestruck by providing them with something to ponder upon.

Check this article to learn effective ways to end your speech with maximum impact.

F) Set the Right Mood

Setting the right tone of the speech is extremely crucial.

This way, you guide your audience to perceive your thoughts in just the intended manner.

You can set the right tone with the help of effective body language , facial expressions and voice modulation.

For instance, while delivering a speech about the environment which demands you to cite the solutions, a sense of hope must be reflected throughout the course of your speech. You can achieve this by sounding optimistic in your voice and having open body language.

In a similar fashion, a speech about the environmental problems would require you to sound empathetic in your voice.

4. A Sample Speech on the Environment

“Why should I be studying for a future that soon may be no more, when no one is doing anything to save that future?”, asked Greta Thunberg, and I’m sure we all are in search of an answer to this question, more so in these unprecedented times when the entire world is at a standstill. Environmental depletion, a term we take so lightly, has been increasing with each year passing by. This year (2020 as of writing), Earth Overshoot Day was observed on August 22, exhausting nature’s budget for the year in just seven months. Even as I speak and you listen to this speech, The residents of Goa are raising their voices against an infrastructure plan which is all set to cut through Mollem National Park and destroy the habitat of thousands of animals. Even as I speak, 10,000 clothing items are being sent to landfills every 5 minutes. All because of Fast Fashion! Even as I speak, more than 80 percent of the world population is living under light-polluted skies. All because of light pollution!  And, when we actually reflect upon all of these things, there’s no one to blame but us.  Yet, we choose to remain silent.  So, I ask you today,   Why are we silent? Why don’t we care about the planet we live on?  I believe that by choosing to remain silent over the environmental issues, we are doing a disgrace to the very act of humanity.  Ain’t we ought to save this environment while we still can?  I know that since time immemorial, we have grown up learning about sustainability. In the most literal sense, we PREACH sustainability. But when it comes to bringing that into practice, our values shy away.  All of a sudden, we start to run short of time. You know why? The reason is we don’t appreciate our environment, anymore. And, that’s the root cause that is holding us back in the pathway towards sustainability.  I still remember when I was 10 years old, my father and I had this really nice ritual of going to the park for evening walks. Back then, it just didn’t matter what headspace we’re in, the air of calmness that surrounded the park would just put us at ease. It was THAT therapeutic!   But, coming back to this so-called modern mechanized era, we’ve parted our ways with this ritual. Now, in these times, even the thought of going to a park sounds cliché to all of us!   We need to learn to appreciate, nurture, and love our environment in order to save it. Because it all begins at home! You and I CAN make the difference and now is the time to inculcate sustainable lifestyle habits. The first step here can be as simple as cutting down the waste we produce in the environment. Be it in terms of buying packaged fruits and vegetables from a farmers’ market or making the area you live in litter-free. Moving ahead, the next step might sound a bit difficult because let’s face it- We ALL love shopping! But, when it comes to leading a sustainable lifestyle, minimalism is the key. Start prioritizing every single time you shop for something. When you do this, you value things you own and don’t end up wasting so much.  Gladly, to our relief, the world isn’t that pessimistic. In this age of globalization, we now have people as ‘environmental influencers’ initiating a call for action. Let’s shower our love and support towards them by drawing inspiration from them.  Therefore, I now say,  Let’s pledge to align our values and actions.  Let’s pledge to spend more time in nature.  And most important of all, let’s pledge to save this planet while we are on this planet.

Bonus tip: a quick checklist.

Now, as promised, we have got a quick checklist for you to follow the next time you write a speech about the environment.

Follow this checklist to eliminate the most common flaws and stand out in the crowd as you deliver a speech about the environment.

1.Find out your ‘why’. State the purpose of you delivering a speech about the environment to establish an emotional connect with the environment to convey your thoughts more effectively.
1.Research well on the environment to avoid generic facts and provide your audience with just the relevant facts.
2.A topic as vast as the environment requires you to draw a mind map to gather your thoughts better. Know what content will mark repetition and what will stand out in a speech topic as common as this.
3.The audience here is dynamic as it includes people from different age groups and different walks of life. So, get the audience analysis done to employ your communication skills accordingly.
4.Keeping in view the duration of your speech, prioritize the content of your speech. You don’t want to bore the audience. Keep your speech to-the-point, nice and engaging to keep up the interest of the audience.
5.Prepare a first draft of the speech by jotting down the key elements (Make sure you think from an audiences’ Point of View while preparing this draft).
6.Provide a catchy and relevant title. Avoid generic speech titles like ‘Speech on Save Environment’ as it will lead the audience to expect monotony and pay less attention to your speech on the environment.
7.Structure your speech by dividing the content into introduction, body and conclusion.
8.Start well! Don’t start your speech on the environment with a bland good morning. Either begin with a story related to environment or use relevant props to relate it to your core idea about the environment.
9.Relevant detail-oriented body with less generic content, more environmental stories and less touched concepts about the environment.
10.End well with a call-to-action! Generic environmental speeches lack actual takeaway for its audience. Make sure your audience actually takes something away from your speech for working towards a better environment.
11.Add relevant personal experiences to establish relatability. State why you care about the environment and provide the audience with a reason to care.
12.Work on speech delivery techniques by improving body language, voice tonality and facial expressions.
13.Practice, practice and practice.

IN CONCLUSION

By having a close look at the sample speech attached above, you’ll understand the use of storytelling technique in the opening remarks of your speech.

The sample speech includes a story which follows a question directed towards the audience which instills them to ponder over the situation in hand.

The body of the sample speech constitutes three simple solutions towards a sustainable environment instead of going all vague and broad by citing the generic solutions. So, the key here is to be specific and realistic while listing solutions in your speech.

The thoughts have been organized in a poetry format so as to conclude the speech in an interesting and memorable manner.

We hope that this article aids you in the speech writing process the next time you write a speech about the environment, or any descriptive topic for that matter.

Essentially, there’s no escape to the ever-present threat to our environment. So, make sure you write your next speech on the environment well because always remember it’s never just about you but more about having a call of action.

To make you aware of the intensity of the threat, let’s talk some facts, shall we?

  • We only have 10 years to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. before it go irreversible by 2030.
  • In just the span of past 22 years, we have recorded 20 warmest years.
  • More than a million species are prone to extinction due to climate change.
  • Every hour, 1,692 acres of productive dry land become desert.
  • We are using up 50% more natural resources than the Earth can provide. At our current population, we need 1.5 Earths, which we do not have.

If this still doesn’t scare you and bring into the light the urgency of situation which we are facing, try checking these articles to know more harrowing stats, all about the environment!

A Speech on the Topic “To Be Healthy, Keep Your Environment Clean”

keeping the environment clean speech

As part of a sanitation program for students, you have been invited to give a speech on the topic: To be healthy, keep your environment clean. Write your speech .

Let us first find out the meaning of environment and how it relates to our health. Our physical environment refers generally to the things that surround us. Examples of things found in the environment are trees, water bodies, weeds, domestic animals and buildings. Since we depend on these things on a daily basis for our survival, it follows that the cleaner we keep our environment, the healthier we will be.

It is in the interest of our health to empty discarded cans and other containers that have water in them. This is one effective method to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes that cause malaria.

It will also stop them from eating our food and drinking from rivers from which we fetch water for our household chores. Another positive outcome of this measure is that the domestic animals will not be able to destroy flowers and ornamental plants which we have planted to beautify the environment.

A further step to keep the environment clean is to properly dispose of both solid and liquid waste . Rubbish around our houses, for example must be burnt regularly to prevent flies from perching on them and then flying off them to contaminate our food.

Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen. There is a saying that cleanliness is next to godliness. Today, a clarion call is going out to each and every one of us. Let us all act in ways that can protect and keep our environment clean. This is a less expensive way to fight disease in our communities.

Finally, allow me to end my speech with another saying I believe we all know too well. Prevention, they say, is better than cure. Thank you.

Introduction to Cleanliness Speech

A Speech On Cleanliness is usually given to address the importance of tidiness within and around the individual and society. Cleanliness is a vital way to live a healthy life. One who keeps clean keeps the diseases far away from him. In this article, you will understand the way to speak on the importance of cleanliness and ways to maintain it in a simple and easy language. There will be a variety of formats to present your topic in, it can be a Long Speech On Cleanliness or a Short Speech On Cleanliness.

Long and Short Cleanliness Speech In English

Long speech on cleanliness.

This kind of Speech On Cleanliness is helpful for students in grades 8-12, as there are many awareness programs held now especially in schools so students can present with a Long Speech On Cleanliness. Take a look below.

Good Morning and a very warm welcome to everyone gathered here, today I ABC (mention your name) have the opportunity to speak on the importance of cleanliness. We have all heard of the saying Cleanliness is next to Godliness, which means it is in clean places that God resides. Many would like to keep their houses clean but throw their household waste into the streets irresponsibly, which is harmful to the environment.

When one thinks of cleanliness, it is important to understand that cleanliness can be explored on many levels. Personal cleanliness means maintaining personal hygiene on day to day basis in the ways like brushing your teeth twice a day, taking bath every day, keeping your hair tidy, making up your bed, cleaning your cupboard, wearing clean clothes, doing laundry regularly, eating clean by avoiding junk foods, tidying up your reading desk, and keeping your room clean. Personal cleanliness is very important in order to lead a healthy life. At the same time, it is important to be considerate of the environment we live in and take accountability to keep our surroundings clean as well.

We must be aware of our surroundings and the harm it causes when we destroy it by making dirty littering plastics all around. Environment cleanliness is equally important, which is why our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a campaign to keep India clean by keeping our surroundings clean called “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.” It is our responsibility to make the Swachh Bharat Mission a successful one as this is also a responsibility towards our nation. Often when tourists visit India, they complain about the lack of cleanliness, leaking sewage, open defecation, and the lack of awareness to practice proper hygiene. This kind of attitude gives a wrong impression of India and Indians.

There are so many steps already taken in the direction of the success of this mission, by making dustbins available on every street and by building public toilets, especially in villages. This practice will be helpful for our health as well. When one lives in unhygienic conditions, it is an invitation for diseases. Unhygienic conditions only serve as a breeding ground for more harmful bacteria and viruses. As we have learned during this pandemic due to the outbreak of a virus the only way to keep it afar is by staying neat and clean, always cleaning hands after touching a surface, and cleaning up after you come home from a long day of work. Cleanliness will keep you healthy, when you are healthy you are capable of taking healthy and fit decisions for yourself and lead an active life.

A cleaner lifestyle is helpful for you and everyone near you. So, when making these small changes, your life will also have a bigger impact. Share the same with your near and dear ones and help them to lead a clean and healthy life as well, and lead by being an example to them.

Thank you.

Good morning everyone I ABC (take your name) am thankful for this opportunity to speak on Cleanliness and its importance and benefits. Cleanliness is the Gandhian way of living, so in 2014 on Gandhi Jayanti, our Prime Minister launched a mission to promote the idea of clean living further by pledging to build toilets in remote villages and small towns and providing a hygienic sanitation facility. Cleanliness is important at every stage of life be it in our own personal way or when we are a part of society.

When we live a clean life we lead a healthy and disease-free life. Take small steps towards the greater good of society and one can always start at home. Keeping our rooms and homes clean is the first step towards a cleaner life, personal hygiene can be maintained by taking care of our health and bodies clean, taking bath daily, brushing our teeth twice. Throwing the plastic or any food waste in the dustbin. One must maintain cleanliness at the workplace as well, and inevitably this will show a great impact on society and enhance environmental cleanliness. To keep the environment clean, do not engage in littering on the streets or urinating in public rather use a public toilet for sanitation.

Cleanliness will help you in taking good care of your own health while also keeping the environment clean. When the environment is clean, we lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Cleanliness should not be a one-time mission, it should be a practice and a daily habit. Stay clean and stay disease-free.

13 ways to save the Earth from pollution

You might use plastic water bottles, yogurt cups, and straws for just a day, but they can remain in the environment for years. And that pollution can harm habitats and the animals that live there. Cut down Earth’s trash with these tips.

Bust the balloons

Balloons eventually fall back down to Earth … and can end up in the ocean, entangling animals or being mistaken for food. Skip the balloons at your next party, and ask friends to do the same. Make pom-pom decorations instead!

Bin for the win

Always throw trash in the can. Garbage left outside might harm wildlife and end up in the ocean. Trash that’s properly brought to a landfill is kept out of the sea.

Fish responsibly

If you go fishing, don’t leave nets or lines in the water. Animals can become entangled in the trash.

Scientists estimate that about half the world’s sea turtles accidentally eat plastic and other trash. Keep the ocean clean by never leaving toys or trash at the beach.

Dump plastic

According to one study, over eight million tons of plastic pollution end up in the ocean each year. Drink from a refillable water bottle, place your sandwich in cloth or a reusable container, and use bar soap instead of bottled.

Garbage club

Form a club in your classroom to reduce your waste at school . Monitor what’s thrown away each week, and think about ways to cut down on those items.

Trash trooper

Participate in a community cleanup . The groups that host the events sometimes weigh the collected trash, which helps leaders make decisions about laws that encourage people to waste less.

Recycle right

People in the United States recycle only about 35 percent of their waste, so recycle what you can. Ask for help to create a paper and plastic recycling program in your classroom.

Business talk

Does your favorite ice-cream shop use plastic spoons? Ask an adult to help you talk to the owner about switching to a non-plastic option. Some kinds of spoons are even edible!

Do-good goodie bag

Don’t fill your birthday goodie bags with plastic yo-yos and other trinkets for your friends. Instead, give them homemade treats or coupons to a local bakery.

Straw sense

Experts estimate that Americans use about 500 million plastic straws a day, and they’re one of the top 10 trash items found during ocean cleanups. If you must use a straw, find a reusable metal straw or a paper version or make your own.

Pest Friends

Ask your parents to buy food and clothes that are made without pesticides—chemicals sprayed on crops to kill bad bugs. The problem? Pesticides also can kill critters like bees that are eco-friendly.

Stuffed with stuff

Items shipped to your home often come wrapped in plastic packaging; toys bought at the store are covered in it. Think about what can be bought secondhand, what can be shared, and what doesn’t need to be purchased at all.

8 Ways to Keep the Earth Clean

Litter on beach. Image credit: NOAA.

By: Amanda Laverty, Knauss fellow with NOAA’s Marine Debris Program

April 18, 2017 — Here at the NOAA Marine Debris Program, Earth Day is every day and we are always encouraging others to get involved and support efforts working toward a clean environment and healthy planet.

Our oceans are filled with items that do not belong there. Huge amounts of consumer plastics, metals, rubber, paper, textiles, derelict fishing gear, vessels, and other lost or discarded items enter the marine environment every day, making marine debris one of the most widespread pollution problems facing the world's ocean and waterways. The ultimate solution to the problem lies with every single one of us—preventing marine debris in the first place.

First, consider how you might personally contribute to marine debris and follow the “4Rs” whenever possible. Refuse unnecessary single-use items, like plastic straws or cutlery when possible. Reduce the amount of waste you produce by choosing products with less packaging. Reuse items when you can and choose reusable items over disposable ones. And, Recycle as much as possible — bottles, cell phones, ink cartridges, and many other items can be recycled.

Next, spread the word to others! Tell your family, friends, community, and more about this important issue and what they can do to help.

Here are a few easy and effective ways you can choose to reduce your daily impact and make a world of difference:

  • Bring a bag. Remember to bring reusable bags to the grocery store or for any other shopping activities to reduce consumption of disposable bags.
  • Invest in a reusable water bottle. Acquiring a reusable water bottle would not only greatly reduce the amount of single-use plastic you use, but it would also save you money in the long run! If you’re concerned about the quality of your tap water, consider using a water filter.
  • Bring your own reusable cup. Think about how many disposable cups are used every day in just your local coffee shop. Bringing a mug for your morning coffee can reduce the amount of waste you produce annually. Imagine how much waste we could reduce if we all made this simple daily change!
  • Refuse single-use items. Take note on how often you rely on single-use items and choose to replace them with more sustainable versions. Refusing plastic straws and disposable cutlery when you go out and bringing your own containers for leftovers are a few ways you can start today.
  • Avoid products with microbeads. Facial scrubs and beauty products containing plastic microbeads were banned in the United States in 2015, but won’t be fully phased out until 2019. Read the labels when purchasing products and opt for ones that contain natural scrubbing ingredients like salt or sugar.
  • Shop in bulk. Consider the product-to-packaging ratio when purchasing items and choose larger containers instead of multiple smaller ones. When you have the option, also consider purchasing package-free foods and household goods.
  • Make sure your waste goes to the right place. Do your best to ensure that the waste you dispose of ends up where it should. Recycle the materials that are recyclable in your area and make sure to reduce the likelihood of your garbage ending up in the environment by keeping a lid on your trash can when it’s outside.
  • Compost. Composting at home reduces the volume of garbage sent to landfills and reduces the chance of some products becoming marine debris.

These are just a few ways that we can incorporate taking care of our ocean and Great lakes into our everyday lives. By doing our part to work toward a sustainable and debris-free planet, we’ll also be providing others with inspiration and a good example to follow. As individuals we have the potential to make a big difference and together we can change the world.

Speech on Keeping School Neat And Clean

Taking care of your school is like caring for your own home. A clean and tidy environment makes learning fun and easy. In the same way, keeping school neat gives everyone a sense of pride and responsibility. Let’s explore why it’s important to keep your school clean and neat.

1-minute Speech on Keeping School Neat And Clean

Good day, everyone! Today, we’re going to discuss a very important topic: ‘Keeping School Neat And Clean’.

Firstly, cleanliness is next to godliness. This means that being clean is as important as being good. So, let’s make our school a place that looks and feels good. We can start by picking up any litter we see and putting it in the trash can. Remember, even small actions can make a big difference.

Next, cleanliness is good for our health. Dirty places can make us sick. Germs and bugs love dirty places, but we don’t want them in our school, do we? So, let’s keep our school clean and stay healthy.

Also, a clean school helps us learn better. Imagine trying to study in a messy place. Not easy, right? But in a clean school, our minds can focus on learning. So, let’s keep our school neat and tidy to make learning easier.

Finally, when we keep our school clean, we learn important skills. We learn to take care of things. We learn to work together. We learn to be responsible. These skills are very important in life.

So, let’s all promise today to keep our school neat and clean. Remember, a clean school is a happy school, and a happy school is a great place to learn. Thank you!

2-minute Speech on Keeping School Neat And Clean

Good day, everyone!

Today, I want to talk about a very important topic – keeping our school neat and clean.

Firstly, let’s talk about why cleanliness matters. You might think it’s not a big deal if there’s a bit of litter here or a bit of dirt there. But, cleanliness is about more than just looking nice. It’s about being healthy too. When we keep our school clean, we help to keep ourselves and each other from getting sick. After all, bacteria and germs love dirty places.

Now, let’s think about how a clean school makes us feel. Imagine walking into a classroom that’s spotless. The tables are shining, there’s no rubbish on the floor, and everything is in its place. It feels inviting, doesn’t it? A clean environment makes us feel good. It makes us want to be there and to learn.

We should also respect our school’s cleaning staff. They work hard to keep our school clean. We can make their job easier by not making a mess in the first place. And, if we see them cleaning, we can say thank you. They deserve our respect and appreciation.

Lastly, let’s remember that our school is like our second home. We spend a lot of time here. Just as we wouldn’t want a dirty home, we shouldn’t want a dirty school.

Thank you for listening. Let’s all work together to make our school the best it can be.
