Long Essay on Environmental Protection in English 500 words

Environment Protection Essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

The matter of environmental protection is of utmost urgency because of the maximum danger that the environment is in right now. Owing to various human-made activities, the situation is under a dire threat. The damage is tremendous and has reached a point of no return. However much we try, we cannot undo the destruction that has already been inflicted. Thus, we need to lessen the human impact on the environment as much as possible.

The environment contains under it the lithosphere, the atmosphere, the biosphere, and the hydrosphere. The lithosphere refers to the land surrounding us; hydrosphere contains all the water bodies surrounding us; the atmosphere contains all the gaseous fluids around us. Land, water and air pollution is the main reason behind the degradation of the environment.

Environmental protection implies taking care of and rescuing the environment. First, awareness about environmental protection should be spread; the familiar people should know about the need and requirements of environmental protection.

Environmental degradation can be kept under check in some ways. People should be encouraged to plant trees. Forests and vegetations are being cleared extensively for farming and construction purposes. It has led to the depletion of forest resources by and large. The number of trees has diminished to a great extent. Trees are our only source of oxygen in the earth; clearing trees and plants results in depletion and a decrease in the amount of oxygen available in the air. This puts the entire humanity at risk. By facilitating the growth of trees, the greenery can be restored. The loss made can be compensated.

To protect the environment, the pollution rates should be decreased. Air, land, and water pollution needs to be kept under check. Utmost care should be taken while disposing of wastes on water prices; reduced use of vehicles and transportation can help reduce air pollution; careless dumping of solid wastes on the ground can be decreased to regulate land pollution.

Saving water is yet another effective measure for environmental protection. Water is a vital resource, and it is essential for survival. The amount of fresh drinkable water on the earth is very less when compared to the enormous population. Water should thus be saved. The demand for water increases leaps and bounds, while its supply keeps decreasing. Hence wastage and excessive use of water should be curtailed.

Waste management is yet another tenet. Management of waste implies proper disposal of trash. Practices such as dumping of untreated wastes on water bodies and land should be stopped. Appropriate waste bins, sewer systems, and garbage dumps should be [present, where people can get rid of the waste. The municipality should adequately treat it.

Thus the number of ways in which to bring about environmental management is numerous. People need to be more aware and responsible. They should understand the urgent need to be careful in their day-to-day dealings with nature and the environment. They should be more cautious.

The atmosphere is in a very adverse condition right now due to the various unchecked and extreme activities being carried out regularly by humans. The situation has come to such a pass, that the matter to conserve the environment needs to be addressed immediately without any further delay. Essay on Understanding and Nurturing Our Environment

The environment is everything that surrounds us – the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil beneath our feet, and the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit our planet. It's not just a backdrop to our lives; it's the very essence of our existence. In this essay, we'll explore the importance of our environment, the challenges it faces, and what we can do to ensure a sustainable and thriving world for generations to come.

Our environment is a complex and interconnected web of life. Every living organism, from the tiniest microbe to the largest mammal, plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems. This delicate balance ensures the survival of species, including humans. For instance, bees pollinate plants, which produce the oxygen we breathe. Nature is a masterpiece that has evolved over millions of years, and we are just one small part of this intricate tapestry.

Importance of Environment

The environment is crucial for keeping living things healthy.

It helps balance ecosystems.

The environment provides everything necessary for humans, like food, shelter, and air.

It's also a source of natural beauty that is essential for our physical and mental health.

The Threats to Our Environment:

Unfortunately, our actions have disrupted this delicate balance. The rapid industrialization, deforestation, pollution, and over-exploitation of natural resources have led to severe environmental degradation. Climate change, driven by the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, is altering weather patterns, causing extreme events like floods, droughts, and storms. The loss of biodiversity is another alarming concern – species are disappearing at an unprecedented rate due to habitat destruction and pollution.

Impact of Human Activities on the Environment

Human activities like pollution, deforestation, and waste disposal are causing environmental problems like acid rain, climate change, and global warming. The environment has living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) components. Biotic components include plants, animals, and microorganisms, while abiotic components include things like temperature, light, and soil.

In the living environment, there are producers (like plants), consumers (like animals), and decomposers (like bacteria). Producers use sunlight to make energy, forming the base of the food web. Consumers get their energy by eating other organisms, creating a chain of energy transfer. Decomposers break down waste and dead organisms, recycling nutrients in the soil.

The non-living environment includes climatic factors (like rain and temperature) and edaphic factors (like soil and minerals). Climatic factors affect the water cycle, while edaphic factors provide nutrients and a place for organisms to grow.

The environment includes everything from the air we breathe to the ecosystems we live in. It's crucial to keep it clean for a healthy life. All components of the environment are affected by its condition, so a clean environment is essential for a healthy ecosystem.

Sustainable Practices:

Adopting sustainable practices is a key step towards mitigating environmental degradation. This includes reducing our carbon footprint by using renewable energy, practicing responsible consumption, and minimizing waste. Conservation of natural resources, such as water and forests, is essential. Supporting local and global initiatives that aim to protect the environment, like reforestation projects and wildlife conservation efforts, can make a significant impact.

Education and Awareness:

Creating a sustainable future requires a collective effort, and education is a powerful tool in this regard. Raising awareness about environmental issues, the consequences of our actions, and the importance of conservation is crucial. Education empowers individuals to make informed choices and encourages sustainable practices at both personal and community levels.

Why is a Clean Environment Necessary?

To have a happy and thriving community and country, we really need a clean and safe environment. It's like the basic necessity for life on Earth. Let me break down why having a clean environment is so crucial.

First off, any living thing—whether it's plants, animals, or people—can't survive in a dirty environment. We all need a good and healthy place to live. When things get polluted, it messes up the balance of nature and can even cause diseases. If we keep using up our natural resources too quickly, life on Earth becomes a real struggle.

So, what's causing all this environmental trouble? Well, one big reason is that there are just so many people around, and we're using up a lot of stuff like land, food, water, air, and even fossil fuels and minerals. Cutting down a bunch of trees (we call it deforestation) is also a big problem because it messes up the whole ecosystem.

Then there's pollution—air, water, and soil pollution. It's like throwing a wrench into the gears of nature, making everything go wonky. And you've probably heard about things like the ozone layer getting thinner, global warming, weird weather, and glaciers melting. These are all signs that our environment is in trouble.

But don't worry, we can do things to make it better:

Plant more trees—they're like nature's superheroes, helping balance everything out.

Follow the 3 R's: Reuse stuff, reduce waste, and recycle. It's like giving our planet a high-five.

Ditch the plastic bags—they're not great for our landscapes.

Think about how many people there are and try to slow down the population growth.

By doing these things, we're basically giving our planet a little TLC (tender loving care), and that's how we can keep our environment clean and healthy for everyone.

Policy and Regulation:

Governments and institutions play a vital role in shaping environmental policies and regulations. Strong and enforceable laws are essential to curb activities that harm the environment. This includes regulations on emissions, waste disposal, and protection of natural habitats. International cooperation is also crucial to address global environmental challenges, as issues like climate change know no borders.

The Role of Technology:

Technology can be a double-edged sword in environmental conservation. While some technological advancements contribute to environmental degradation, others offer solutions. Innovative technologies in renewable energy, waste management, and sustainable agriculture can significantly reduce our impact on the environment. Embracing and investing in eco-friendly technologies is a step towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Conclusion:

Our environment is not just a collection of trees, rivers, and animals; it's the foundation of our existence. Understanding the interconnectedness of all living things and recognizing our responsibility as stewards of the Earth is essential. By adopting sustainable practices, fostering education and awareness, implementing effective policies, and embracing eco-friendly technologies, we can work towards healing our planet. The choices we make today will determine the world we leave for future generations – a world that can either flourish in its natural beauty or struggle under the weight of environmental degradation. It's our collective responsibility to ensure that it's the former.

Sample Essay 1 on Save Environment

In the 21st century, environmental concern has sent shockwaves to the world leaders and people living on the planet. The unprecedented climate changes and natural calamities have become a major global pandemic of contemporary times. The superpowers of the world are boasting high on their technological innovations, but they seem helpless in tackling environmental affairs efficiently.

The environment constitutes the soil, trees, animals, flora and fauna. It comprises plants, air, water, sunlight and the dynamism in eco-system.  We cannot imagine living on this planet earth without environmental sustainability. There is a dire need of saving the environment, especially when the humungous urbanisation activities are taking place. Trees are being cut down mercilessly and the concentration of toxic gases are poisoning the planet. The heavy presence of Methane gases, as well as Cholorofloro Carbons, have massively lead to the depletion of Ozone Layer, which resulted in Acid rain and Skin Cancer in many areas on the planet.

At such crucial juncture, the inspirational speech of Greta Thunberg on Save Environment and other environmental activists should be taken into utmost consideration. There is a dire need for saving the environment & be protagonists for sustainable development in order to do away with the natural calamities.

This essay on save environment can help you in the PTE Writing Essay, TOEFL Essay Topics and TOEFL Sample Essays !

Sample Essay 2

As human beings, we exist because of environmental support. Had there be no air, no freshwater, no other natural resources, our existence would have been impossible. It is because of innumerable trees around us, we are able to breath fresh air. We eat when the process of photosynthesis takes place in plants. We are living comfortably in our habitats when there the food chain in the ecosystem is properly maintained.

Whenever there is any ecological disturbance, be it rise of harmful gases in the environment rise of earth’s temperature due to global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, glacier melting, unprecedented climatic changes, extreme air pollution, and water pollution are taking a heavy toll on human lives and certainly, this is the creation of anthropogenic approach.

Delhi is the best example of poor air quality that engulfed the capital city last year. It happened due to the presence of toxic gases emitting from industrial units and countless vehicles. The poor air quality has forced to change the vehicular movement strategy which resulted in massive human sufferings and hardships.

We have so many examples from the northernmost belt of India, where the massive soil erosion is washing away residential areas away in a harsh deluge. Such conditions arise when trees are being uprooted mercilessly.

There is a dire need to embrace the concept of ‘Sustainable Development’ that talks about the judicious usage of natural resources. It is the time when we have to Save Environment from further degradation. It is the time when human beings have to utilise their collective consciousness towards environmental sustainability and refrain using those resources and products which causes environmental degradation

Sample Essay 3 on Save Environment

We have mesmerizing landscapes and breathtaking water bodies which constitute a great contribution to fresh air and houses various species of animals and aquatic life. But, the unfortunate part is the rise of humungous plastic pollutions which lead to a disastrous impact on environmental change. Other than a climatic change, plastic pollution posing a massive threat to the environment, it is affecting not only the quality of soil but affecting the aquatic life as well.

It would grow more alarmingly if concrete steps are not being taken at the right time; it is sure that we may lose water bodies at a vast scale.

Same is the case with the excessive usage of Carbon gases in the environment which is causing the depletion of the Ozone layer in the Stratosphere. Joseph Farman first time discovered the ozone depletion over the South Pole. Its depletion has caused acid rains in many parts of the globe as well as skin diseases.

Another level of environmental degradation is taking place when a large chunk of trees are being cut. Humans not only cut down the vast land of the forest for the construction of houses but destroy the natural habitat of wildlife. When the wildlife is losing their dwelling places, they migrate to human settlements areas, causing a heavy imbalance in the food chain, ecosystem and insecurity for human beings. The massive rise of deforestation has caused floods to enter into human settlements, causing loss of precious lives and property.

Now that the environmental issues are buzzing at the international forums, many awareness programs are being conducted to keep people updated about the repercussions of environmental exploitation. A number of campaigns are being launched to spread the message of Saving Environment.

It is a need of the hour to the hour to protect the environment, come what may otherwise face the brutal repercussions.

Tourism also contributes to the economic growth of a nation as it leads to the creation of jobs for many people (Holden 177). Some people work as tour guides and agents while others work in food and accommodation sector.

Protecting the environment also attracts many foreign investors into the country. Foreign investors invest their money and introduce industries in other nations, thus promoting economic growth (Goodstein 26).

If a country has a terrible environment, investors will avoid making businesses there, and this reduces economic development in a country.

Another way that protecting the environment creates sustainable development is through preservation of natural resources. Most development activities make use of natural resources, and if the environment lacks protection, such resources may become depleted, thus, making further developments impossible.

Also, environmental protection causes sustainable development as governments cut the money spent on health-care costs. A good natural environment protects human beings from diseases like skin cancer, cataracts and other illnesses that arise due to environmental pollution. This, in turn, makes governments cut down on health costs.

Protecting the environment enhances welfare of human beings. People suffer from health-related issues in areas where the environment gets stressed (Frumkin et al. 4). A harmful environment is accountable for almost a quarter of the worldwide disease problem.

In emerging nations, use of incompetent wood-burning stoves to make food causes illnesses. A rising figure of cleaner and more competent stoves, which cut down both the amount of biomass that needs collection to fuel the stove and domestic airborne particulates, are becoming obtainable.

Proper environmental management can lessen the risk of malaria through destroying mosquito habitats, breeding mosquitoes that are resistant to the malaria parasite as well as reducing populations of mosquitoes.

This fact also relates with the concept of sustainable development as health is a vital element in sustainable development. Sick families cannot meet their daily needs, a mother with respiratory tract infections could be unable to take proper care of the family and a sick child is likely to miss school, or underperform in academics.

Protecting the environment enhances continuity of life. The world has limited resources, and rapid consumption of these resources by humans has led to severe environmental degradation. Failure to protect the environment is a crime as it means that we do not care about future generations.

Therefore, we must attach significance to protection of the environment so that we can give future generations a better living space.

As a result of failing to protect the environment, we continue experiencing much retribution from nature. For instance, there is scarcity in land resources due to expansion of towns and industrial development (Rubio 9).

Besides, there is pollution in lakes and rivers due to the large waste that factories emit. The number of deserts has also increased due to continuous cutting of trees. Toxic gas and liquid air have also caused pollution of water supplies.

Protecting the environment secures both plant and animal lives through preventing ozone depletion. The most common causes of ozone depletion are releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere and cutting down of trees. Depletion of ozone makes higher levels of ultra violet rays to hit into the earth’s surface (McMichael 61).

These rays may cause skin cancer and cataracts among human beings. Equally, ultra violet rays affect growth of plants and aquatic food systems. These rays affect nutrient distribution in plants as well as secondary metabolism, thus causing disease in plants.

Besides, ultra violet rays affect the euphotic zone, which limits productivity of phytoplankton. The euphotic zone is the top cover of water column where there is adequate light to promote net productivity.

Although most phytoplankton can move actively to enhance their efficiency and, thus, their continued existence, contact with ultra violet rays from the sun affects survival rates of phytoplankton. Also, ultra violet rays from the sun affect early developmental phases of shrimp, fish, amphibians and crabs.

Other dangerous effects of ultra violet rays to aquatic life include decreased reproductive ability and weakened development of larvae (McMichael 63).

Considering present levels, solar radiation is a restrictive feature, and small raises in ultra violet exposure could cause noteworthy decrease in the number of animals that feed on these minor organisms.

In conclusion, protecting the environment is essential for enhanced human and plant life, continuity of life, sustainable development of an economy as well as economic enhancement. Natural resources are essential for life on earth, and thus they need protection. Failure to protect the environment may affect future generations of both plants and animals.

Essay 1 (250 Words) – How to Protect the Environment

Introduction

It is very essential for our environment to stay clean and life-sustaining. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The environment we live in is being damaged by our own deeds. There is an urgent need to take proactive measures for environmental protection and involve the younger generation in it.

Steps for Environmental Protection

Below listed are some vital points to ensure that our environment stays out of harm’s way –

  • Ban the use of plastic bags and products.
  • Ensure that your household waste is disposed through proper channel.
  • Stop littering and also encourage others to stop the same.
  • Don’t use chemical fertilizers and pesticides, rather go for organic ones.
  • Minimize vehicle use as exhaust gases are the greatest pollutants of air.
  • Save forests and plant trees because they are the lungs of the environment.
  • Minimize the use of groundwater or surface water.

Role of Students in Environment Protection

Students play a very significant role in environmental protection. They are sensitive, receptive, and take any advice, suggestion, generously. There are several schools that actively take participate in cleanliness campaigns.

Students are filled with energy and enthusiasm and their contribution to such campaigns is incomparable. Also, a student who understands the value of the environment will teach the same to younger and elders in his/her family.

It is very important that we keep our environment safe and free from pollution. Roping in young students for the same will work wonders for the cause.

Essay 2 (400 Words) – How to Improve Environmental Health

Everything that surrounds us is described as our environment. Going by this definition, our natural environment consists of – air, soil, water, forests, plants, hills, oceans, water bodies, etc. It is therefore in our own interest to protect the environment. In this essay, we will discuss on ways to improve the environment and the role of students in environmental protection.

How to Improve Environmental Health

There are many ways to improve the condition of the environment, but the most important ones are listed below –

  • Recycle and Reuse

A lot of waste that pollutes the environment consists of dumped household materials that are no longer in use, like – plastic and glass bottles, tin cans, broken computers, or other plastic items, clothes, etc. These waste materials reach the soil and water and could stay there for years, polluting them and reducing their quality. If we just take a simple step of recycling the waste instead of throwing it into the environment, we would be doing a great job of saving the environment.

Trees are the lungs of the planet; therefore, very essential members of the environment. They act as filters too and keep the air quality index of a place high. They consume carbon dioxide and emit life-essential oxygen. No need to mention the millions of life forms that the trees sustain – birds, insects, reptiles, etc. The more threes we save, we would be doing a great deal towards improving environmental health.

  • Don’t Litter

How many of you have noticed plastic bags, bottles, food packages, etc. littered around at places like beaches, monuments, and market places. The litter is the most damaging to the environment for it simply rots and pollutes it. The best we can do to save the environment is to not litter. Make it a habit to dispose of the waste properly in a dust bin. If you don’t see one around you then wait until you see one.

  • Educate and Inspire

We should educate and make others aware of the environment and how can it be preserved. Special stress should be given on teaching the youngsters and the children. When young children are taught about the value of the environment, they will acknowledge its significance when they grow up. We should also inspire others by planting trees and organizing cleanliness campaigns.

The protection of the environment is in the hands of humans. Only humans can take initiative and save the environment, thereby saving lives on the planet.

Essay on How to Protect the Environment

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – Reasons and Ways to Protect the Environment

In simple words, the environment refers to everything that surrounds us. The trees, plants, forests, rivers, and all are our natural environment. Unfortunately, this natural environment of ours is under threat due to human activities. Humans are damaging the environment on a daily basis, pressing the need for its protection. In this essay, we will discuss on why in the first place we need to protect the environment and the ways we can do so.

Why do we Need to Protect the Environment?

The environment is our home. This is where we live. In fact, it is the most essential requirement for life. Below listed are some main reasons of why should we protect the environment.

  • Gives us food

Our environment is the prime source of food that we eat. Everything from grains, cereals to fruits, vegetables, etc. is produced in the environment. Will it be possible for such a huge population to survive without such an abundant food supply? By damaging the environment we are only impeding our own food supply.

  • Supplies Essential Life Elements (Natural Resources)

The environment gives us the two very essential elements, necessary for life – air and water. We all need air to live, be it animals, plants, or even aquatic animals need oxygen and fresh air. Water is another basic life-sustaining element. If we damage our environment, we are cutting our own supplies of clean air and water.

  • Sustains Livelihood

Billions of people throughout the globe depend on the environment for their livelihood. They have taken up business out of so many resources that the environment provides. Farmers, fruit sellers, fishermen, etc., all depend on the environment for a living.

  • Supports the Complete Eco-System

A balanced and non-damaged environment supports the complete ecosystem in such a way that the planet becomes supportive of life. With a balanced ecosystem, life flourishes, and species expand.

How can we Protect the Environment – 5 Simple Ways?

Below we will go through five simple ways to protect the environment –

  • Control Waste

Improper disposal of waste is the main problem that threatens the environment today. The waste just spreads into the environment, getting into the soil, water, and air and polluting them. Proper waste disposal techniques must be employed to reduce environmental damage.

  • Rain Water Harvesting

Water, either surface or underground water, is an essential resource that impacts the overall health of the environment. If the water runs dry, so would the environment. Rainwater harvesting is a good option to save water and the environment as well.

  • Become Eco-Friendly

It would be in the best interest of the environment, for us to become environment savvy. We can do that by using bio-degradable carry bags instead of plastic, using paper bags, planting trees, taking part in cleanliness campaigns, and a lot more.

  • Stay Away from Chemicals

Avoid the use of chemicals as far as possible, primarily in the agriculture sector. If it cannot be avoided then at least make sure that no chemical reaches the environment and is neutralized after use.

  • Walk More Drive Less

Vehicles today have become the main source of environmental pollution. The exhaust emits poisonous and harmful gases into the environment. If we chose to use vehicles only when it is unavoidable, then we would be helping the environment become clean and healthy.

The environment is the place where we live in and making it dirty would be the last thing you would like to do. It is our duty to keep the environment clean and safe for life – not our own but also of other living species as well.

Essay on Environment Protection – Essay 1 (200 Words)

From last several decades we humans have been degrading our mother earth & its resources on the name of development of technology. On the name of increasing our standards of living unknowingly we are on the way of hampering it further. Today we’ve come so far that it is no more a question of better living but it is just about living now.

Nature has an amazing quality of reviving itself against changes made in itself by natural and manmade factors, but there it has a saturation level too and maybe we have already crossed that. We have degraded it beyond repair. We have accounted to enough deforestation to imbalance the required ratio of carbon dioxide; we have impregnated the water resources with hazardous wastes enough that it cannot purify it further on its own. Soil has been degraded until the level it loses its cultivability. Problems are beyond the count and a perfect solution yet to be found.

We have gone too far and it is already too late. If we don’t start working now, we won’t have tomorrow to repent. It is no more a matter of protecting environment, but it’s about protecting us from getting into danger any further. It is the time to make amends with the nature so that it can grant us few more centuries of human existence in our home, Earth.

Essay on Environment Protection and Conservation – Essay 2 (300 Words)

Protecting environment is the moral duty of every human being on this planet, rather it’s not only protecting the environment indirectly it is about protecting ourselves from major loss. How ignorant can we afford to be when it is the question of our survival?

How to Converse Our Environment/Tips for Environment Conservation

So here are some of the things which we can do to conserve our environment:

  • If you are painting your house, use latex paint, as oil-based paints release hydrocarbon fumes.
  • Instead of using your personal vehicle, go for bike or public transport. Vehicle traffic is a major contributor to noise pollution and also to smog.
  • Try to use less fertilizer or use organic fertilizers instead because when it rains, fertilizers drain into streams along with rain water.
  • Don’t trash the streams instead do volunteering with other groups in cleaning them on regular basis.
  • While using washing machines, try to load it full or adjust the water level according to the load. Washing machines use almost 40 gallons of water.
  • Use bucket for washing cars or other vehicles, instead of hose. Because the water running from hose while you are working wastes a lot of water.
  • Set the sprinkler in the lawn instead of watering it as that will be helpful in saving water.
  • Close the tap while brushing, washing or bathing when it is not in use. 5 gallons of water goes to drain every minute the water runs from faucet.
  • Try to conserve energy by switching off the lights, fans and other electrical appliances when not in use. This will also help in reducing your bill to a much greater extent.
  • If you have mercury thermometer, replace it with the digital one. Mercury is a major pollutant and is non-degradable which moves up to the food chain and causes serious health issues.
  • Thinking about taking a paper bag or plastic from shop? Better yet, take your own canvas bag to the grocery shop and reuse it each time you go for shopping.

These small things can go a long way in saving and protecting the environment.

Essay on Need and Importance of Environmental Protection – Essay 3 (400 Words)

Introduction

Environment is degrading which means the chances for survival of living organisms on earth is decreasing. But there is still some stubborn mentality in some people that the environment is degrading naturally, so it will also recover or be back to normal naturally. This is a very wrong notion. If we don’t start protecting our environment now, then there is a huge possibility that we won’t be able to save our humanity in future.

To consider this problem seriously, let’s think about the possibilities which will arise due to environmental degradation.

  • Firstly, let’s imagine a life without clean air. Polluted air contains dust particles and other harmful particles, which maybe in solid or gaseous form. Haze, a combination of dust particle, smoke and other harmful gases, will occur. This will obscure the vision which will lead to accidents of vehicles, and in worst cases, deaths.
  • Due to high level of CO 2 and CFC, ozone layer will go on depleting, or there will come a time when it might extinct. In this case, harmful UV rays will enter the earth’s atmosphere and can cause skin cancer and other harmful diseases.
  • Carbon monoxide is also a very lethal pollutant. If it enters the human body, it mixes with haemoglobin and makes the circulation of oxygen through blood difficult, which will make us feel dizzy. If the amount of CO consumption through air is more, then this might even lead to death.
  • Due to increase of acids in air and other harmful gases, frequency of acid rain will increase. Acid rains are harmful for every living organism, from microbes to giant animals. It can cause many diseases as well as death. It can make the harmful elements enter the ecosystem through soil and water.
  • Soil having water of acid rain will degrade in its quality. This type of soil won’t possess the required mineral content and water holding capacity which will lead to decrease in the production of crops, or their quality. If the production or quality of crops decreases, then this will directly affect the humans which will lack the energy to perform because of lack of nutrient supply. This can stop the progress of the whole civilization.
  • If the acid rain or CO 2 enters the water bodies in excess quantity, then it will affect the marine life also which will eventually affect the whole ecosystem.

Essay on Importance of Protecting the Environment – Essay 4 (500 Words)

Good Environment is a pre-requisite for the survival of life on Earth. There are visible signs that it is getting degraded. Still, there are no visible changes in our lifestyles to stop the condition getting worse then what it is now. Things that are doing harm to the environment such as working in industries or factories, commuting via fuel-driven vehicles, using air conditioners, etc have become an essential part of our lives. The amount of energy that we are using is essential and there is no other alternative to it. Mentioned below is a reality check of how we are being the major contributors in environmental degradation despite being fully aware about the importance of protecting the environment:

  • Over Population : Many parts of our planet are being over populated by human population. Over population means more demands and less supply. This creates an imbalance and disturbs the ecosystem as for human survival, the shelter of birds and animals are getting destroyed. This also increases the fossil fuel consumption and the harmful impacts of it on the environment.
  • Pollution : Increased population leads to increased waste to make the supplies reach the required rate. This wastes level leads to air and water pollution. The condition of pollution is so bad that to date, 2.4 billion people do not have access to clean, drinkable water. Humanity is constantly polluting the irreplaceable resources like air, water and soil, which takes millions of years to replenish. Not only air, water and soil pollution, humanity is also responsible for noise, radiation and light pollution.
  • Global Warming : The major cause for this is the increased level of CO 2 , and that is because of the increased rate of burning of fossil fuels. Current measurements of CO 2 levels have exceeded above 400 ppm breaking every record dating back 400,000 years. And this has lead to increase in earth’s temperature, which leads to melting of glaciers and increase in ocean level to rise.
  • Non-Veg Diet : Human’s digestive tract is a long one like that of herbivores. But still most of the human population relies on non-vegetarian diet. To grow a hen of 1 kilo, many kilos of wheat is required, but 1 kilo of wheat can satisfy the hunger of 2 persons. Hence, this non-veg diet is really expensive to the environment.
  • Deforestation : Deforestation is required for creating land space for making roads and homes for humans. This leads to destruction of the habitat of wild animals and birds. It also leads to constant increase of level of COSince there are no trees to absorb this gas so it remains in the atmosphere leading to global warming.
  • Excess Usage of Useless Commodities : For the sake of vanity, we use commodities such as leather shoes, belts and jackets which are made from the skin of animals without thinking about the impact it has on the animals. Animals suffer because of this while we adorn such decorative items made from their nails and tusks.

So, we know how humans are the ones responsible for destroying the environment and killing the humanity. It’s time to acknowledge and understand the importance of protecting our environment and work in that direction.

Essay on Pollution, Environment and Environment Protection Act – Essay 5 (600 Words)

Environment is the surrounding in which the living creatures live and interact. Everything that is needed by an organism to survive is provided by the environment. It includes physical, chemical and natural forces, which are required for the survival of the living beings. Environment has been serving mankind since the beginning of the time, and continues to do so. But since the last few decades, nature is suffering at the hands of mankind, and payback for this has already begun. Recent researches have proved that if this imbalance caused is not made right the reckoning will come. This doom can only be avoided with staunch and effective measures taken for its revival as soon as possible.

Pollution and Environment

Our entire human existence is dependent on the nature itself. We depend on the nature for a tiny pin to the most complex man made constructions. Environment has come to our aid in every way possible. Ayurveda, a practice of medicine since ancient India which is completely dependent on natural herbs, is facing crises due to depletion of various species of plants. Species of various animals and plants have become extinct or on the verge of extinction due to unnecessary interruption in the ecosystem by the humans.

Ozone layer which prevents ultraviolet rays from sun to enter our atmosphere is getting depleted due to the increase in harmful gases causing pollution in the environment. Because of the increasing demands of the increasing human population, the pollution is increasing. Man started polluting the environment since the first fire was produced. From then to now, man has been polluting the environment in the name of development. Due to cumulative effect of ozone depletion and greenhouse effect the temperature on earth is rising continuously resulting in global warming.

As a result of which glaciers at the poles are melting and contributing to rise in the sea level, many major cities inhabited by humans are predicted to submerge in water in next few decades. Post effects of this environmental degradation are beyond our imagination, need of the hour is to preserve our environment in the best way possible, not only because it is our moral duty to do that, but because it’s our only to way to survive from the harm.

Due to exponential growth of population along with industrialization, the quality of environment is degrading. There is a crucial need for conservation and preservation of the environment.

Environment Protection Act, 1986

Environmental Protection Act is an act passed by the Parliament of India in 1986 in an attempt to protect and conserve the environment. This was enacted by the government after the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. It was a gas leak incident in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in December 1984. It was considered as the world’s worst industrial disaster as the official immediate death toll was 2,259 and over 500,000 people were exposed to Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) gas. The purpose of establishing this act was to make people implement the decisions of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. It was for the protection and improvement of the environment and the prevention of environmental hazards.

Environment Protection acts have been put in place to stop people from damaging environment in the race of becoming better than others. Individuals just think about themselves. These acts are a way to make them realize that we are standing at the verge of environmental degradation. However, all these efforts will go in vain until the individuals consider saving the environment as their very own responsibility. We all have to come together, individually, to save our planet by saving our environment.

Students were seen guarding Hindu temples and other places of worship in social media footage and images verified by Al Jazeera’s fact-checking agency Sanad, including in Chittagong, the country’s second-largest city.

“Miscreants are systematically attacking various public and private institutions to prove the students’ movement wrong,” Chittagong University coordinator, Russell Ahmed, told the Bangla Tribune newspaper.

“To prevent any kind of attack on the places of worship, temples and churches of different religions in Chittagong, we have made a committee in each district … to keep watch from Monday evening,” he said.

In the capital, Dhaka, a Muslim man was seen guarding the Dhakeshwari Temple, a Hindu place of worship.

“A Muslim man spotted praying salah in front of Dhakeswari temple… and protecting the hindu temple from all the evil people who are trying to stop the reform by attacking minorities and public properties,” Saif Ahmed, the social media manager of the Bangla Tigers cricket team, shared on X .

Both Muslim and Hindu neighbours were guarding and protecting the temple, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.

Students who led the protests against Hasina over government job quotas they said were discriminatory also urged people not to target minority communities in the Muslim-majority country of 170 million people.

Nahid Islam, a student at Dhaka University and one of the protest organisers, told local media: “There is no grouping or division among us. We are against any kind of religious incitement, sabotage or division. We will prevent any such attempts.”

The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) urged people to exercise restraint in what it said was a “transitional moment on our democratic path”.

“It is our duty to protect all Bangladeshis, irrespective of religion and politics, from discriminatory violence, and not to harass any particular community, create division, or seek vengeance. Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, believers, atheists – no one will be left behind or be prejudiced on our democratic path; together, we are all proudly Bangladeshis,” Tarique Rahman, the BNP’s acting chair, wrote on X.

Diplomats concerned

Monday was the deadliest day of unrest since the protests erupted last month, with at least 122 people killed.

“Houses and shops of minority people were attacked, vandalised and looted, at least 97 places on Monday and Tuesday,” Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, said in a statement, the AFP news agency reported.

“Such attacks on minorities are against the fundamental spirit of the anti-discrimination student movement,” Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) head, Iftekharuzzaman, told AFP.

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said the country was “monitoring the situation with regard to the status of minorities”, adding that the Indian government would “remain deeply concerned till law and order is visibly restored”.

The United States embassy in Dhaka called for “calm”, in a post on X.

“We are concerned about reports of attacks on religious minorities and religious sites in Bangladesh,” it said, a message echoed by European Union diplomats.

EU heads of mission “are very concerned about incoming reports of multiple attacks against places of worship and members of religious, ethnic and other minorities in Bangladesh”, EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley posted on X.

How to protect your college laptop: A student’s guide to cybersecurity

Chris Hoffman

Security is essential for any laptop, whether you’re on a college laptop , a gaming laptop , or especially a business laptop .

Get Windows 11 Pro for cheap

Windows 11 pro.

Windows 11 Pro

But college laptops face unique challenges. For example, if you’re a student and you’re connecting your own laptop to your school’s network — perhaps in a dorm — then you should really be using a VPN for protection, especially for certain online activities.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about keeping your college laptop safe, secure, and protected during the school year.

Avoid viruses and other malware

Windows Security selection with mouse cursor hovering over

Protecting your PC against malware is essential. Whether we’re talking about viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkits, or any of the other gnarly things you may encounter online, an antivirus is critical protection.

Modern Windows PCs come with Microsoft Defender Antivirus built-in, which is good enough for most people . You’ll want to make sure real-time scanning is enabled, and there are other settings you should tweak .

Our favorite antivirus suite

Norton 360 deluxe.

Norton 360 Deluxe

But if you want more features and top-of-the-line protection, a paid antivirus solution can be worth it. PCWorld’s current top pick is Norton 360 Deluxe ( see our review ), which includes a wide variety of extra tools, including a feature that lets you control access to your webcam.

Are you using a Chromebook? Good news! You don’t need antivirus software. But regardless of your laptop’s operating system, you should always follow the best practices for staying safe online .

Use a VPN to protect your privacy (and get around content blocks)

Open laptop with VPN protection on screen and phone nearby

Many college networks block you from viewing or accessing certain types of content. If you want to get around those content blocks — and prevent your college IT department from seeing which websites you visit — then you absolutely need a VPN.

A VPN (virtual private network) is a service that lets you route your internet connection through their private servers, encrypting your traffic along the way so that no one can see what you’re doing.

This can be useful for getting around blocks, whether it’s to access certain websites or play Steam games. Indeed, if your college IT department blocks or throttles Steam, a VPN can let you play anyway.

Want to get around content blocks without a VPN? One option is to turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot, then connect your laptop to your phone. You’ll end up burning through mobile data, but at least the traffic won’t go through your college network.

Our favorite VPN for torrenting

NordVPN

VPNs are especially critical if you plan on torrenting at college. Of course, I don’t condone doing anything illegal. Whatever you end up doing while connected to a VPN is ultimately your responsibility.

When in doubt, don’t do anything on a college network that you wouldn’t do if you knew people were watching you. Even if what you’re doing isn’t technically illegal, you could still be violating your college’s code of conduct or honor system.

Set your college network to “public”

Whether you’re connecting your laptop to a Wi-Fi network or a wired Ethernet connection, you’ll want to keep that network set as a “public” network in Windows .

If you’re on a public network, Windows Firewall will protect you and disallow others on the network from connecting to shared files and other services on your laptop. (The “private” network setting should only be used for networks where you trust everyone who’s connected, such as your home network.)

On Windows 11 laptops, Windows automatically sets new networks as “public” networks. In that case, leave the setting alone — don’t set a network as “private” unless you trust everyone on it.

On Windows 10 laptops, Windows will ask you whether you want your PC to be “discoverable” whenever you first connect to a new network. Say “No” unless you absolutely trust the network.

Safeguard your passwords

Closeup of white laptop keyboard with Windows key prominent

Password managers are extremely useful if you want to practice good password hygiene for near-zero effort — and you should have good password hygiene, especially in college when you’re going to be juggling lots of different accounts for various purposes.

The best free password manager

Bitwarden

A password manager stores all of your username and password combinations in a single place and remembers which sites and apps go with them. When you reach a login page, the password manager can auto-fill the right login credentials for your convenience.

But while convenience is nice, the real value of a password manager is that you no longer have to memorize your passwords. You can make them as strong and complex as needed, and you can have a unique one for each account. All of this maximizes your online security.

Further reading: The best password managers

Beyond strong, unique passwords, you should also use two-factor authentication to make your accounts even more secure.

And don’t neglect using a strong password for logging into the laptop itself. Consider using a Windows Hello fingerprint login or Chromebook fingerprint login for better security.

Protect against theft (and be able to find your laptop if it’s stolen)

Hopefully, no one will walk off with your laptop. But if you want peace of mind for that sort of thing, you might want to select a college laptop that has a Kensington lock slot . Then, you’ll be able to lock your laptop to your desk — in your dorm, for example.

If your laptop is ever stolen, you can use the built-in Find My Device feature on Windows to locate it. But in order for it to work, you need to have the feature enabled before your laptop is stolen.

Windows 11 settings page for Find My Device feature

To enable Find My Device on Windows 11, navigate to Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device . On Windows 10, head to Settings > Update & Security > Find my device . You can then use Microsoft’s online Find My Device tool to not only track your laptop’s location but also lock it down remotely.

Find My Device isn’t as accurate for laptops as similar features would be for phones because laptops don’t have cellular connections and aren’t on all the time. However, Find My Device may work better than expected on a college campus as long as the laptop stays connected to the college network and doesn’t leave campus.

Using a Chromebook? Unfortunately, Google’s Find My Device feature doesn’t track Chromebooks like it does with Android phones.

Encrypt the files on your laptop

In case you lose your laptop and can’t find it with Find My Device, you don’t want your data to fall into the wrong hands — so you’ll want to encrypt your files ahead of time.

Most modern Windows 11 PCs have a feature called Device Encryption, and it might already be enabled if you sign into your laptop with a Microsoft account. If you sign into Windows with a local user account, Device Encryption won’t be enabled and your files are at risk.

Windows 11 settings page for Device Encryption feature

You can check whether Device Encryption is enabled on your PC from the Settings app. On Windows 11, head to Settings > Privacy & security and look for a Device encryption option.

If you want more control, you can always set up BitLocker encryption on Windows — but you’ll have to pay for a more expensive Windows Professional license for that feature.

Using a Chromebook as your college laptop? Chromebooks always have encrypted storage, so you don’t need to worry about this.

Back up your files regularly

Blank Surface Go laptop on wooden desk workspace

Backups are essential. Who wants to redo an entire paper or project due to a corrupted file or broken hard drive? Not you!

At the very least, make sure you’re storing your files on the cloud, whether through OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or whatever you prefer. This way you’ll have access to your files on all your devices, even if your college laptop suddenly breaks one day.

The best for cloud backups

Idrive online cloud backup.

iDrive Online Cloud Backup

But for true data safety, consider using proper cloud backup software. It may cost you, but you’ll thank yourself if you ever lose everything at the worst possible time. See our picks for the best cloud backup software .

On top of that, you should enable the File History feature in Windows for free, effective, continuous backups of your data.

Now your college laptop is protected

While using a laptop at college comes with unique challenges, much of the cybersecurity advice here is the same for any PC. If you want to go beyond, check out the best free security tools for your PC .

We’ve recommended some paid software options throughout this article, but none of them are absolutely necessary. Free alternatives exist, and most of them are good enough. In the end, you can keep your college laptop safe and secure without spending a dime.
