Holy Unblocker

Holy Unblocker, an official flagship Titanium Network site, can bypass web filters regardless of whether it is an extension or network-based. Being a secure web proxy service, it supports numerous sites while being updated frequently and concentrating on detail with design, mechanics, and features.

Works with a large number of sites, including YouTube, Discord, and more!

Also has a good amount of locally hosted games featured on the site.

Read below for information if the official site is blocked or for obtaining more links. Can't deploy using any of the free options below? Check out Railway or look into cheap, paid VPS hosting solutions.

Why are updates no longer happening here for this repository?

Please read over here .

  • Youtube.com
  • Discord.com
  • And more sites!
  • Tab customization using the Options menu for improved stealth
  • Considerable variety with the open selection of proxy types

Is Holy Unblocker still being worked on?

Yes! A lot of users may have noticed the initial message about Holy Unblocker being down however Holy Unblocker is now being maintained by a seperate team and no longer by me. You may check it out here once setup or join the TN Discord linked below for more information.

Important Message (Original)

This isn’t the greatest announcement sorry. After lots of thought and severe hesitation I’m shutting down Holy Unblocker and leaving TN. It's just been something that I’ve been super conflicted with for months hence the lack of updates and the massive gaps that happened last year. I just didn’t want to throw away a project that I passionately enjoyed and spent time on while making amazing friends and meeting epic devs here. I could go on forever for who these people are but ima like leave it here. They know who they are :D

The main change of thought is that I’m finally just putting an end right now due to 1) the lack of motivation 2) the community is NOT the greatest at time and not the nicest at times (have to put that out here) 3) the future doesn’t look so good for HU/TN as a project.

Some things I’ll be keeping secret since there are more reasons to this choice unless otherwise for those who don’t find this enough information. Good friends here will know that I’ve been super stressed about this choice for months now. Also regardless a good motivator for this choice is the fact that I’ll be graduating soon.

It’s possible that I may continue/come back for this in the future or keep it on GitHub only. I leave this here because even now I am still doubting myself about this change. But for now I’d check out other proxy sites like Incognito (Duce DOES a ton of updates frequently and he is the creator/developer of Ultraviolet so give him some love) :yayy_hopi:

Check out his Patreon also! For current HU patrons you will not be billed next month and the HU Patreon will be archived so head over to Duce’s patron so he can purchase more domains for Incognito.

With love <3 Emerald :HuTaoHype:

Vauge Explanation for Beginners With External Proxies and Hosting

You will first want to host your proxies locally or externally.

List of some good hosting options:

  • Dedipath (Paid and Dedicated)
  • Heroku (Free)
  • NodeClusters (Paid)
  • Glitch (Free)
  • Repl.it (Free)
  • Azure (Free and Paid)

Out of the list of hosting providers Heroku and NodeClusters rank first as a preference. You may also self-host.

After you have selected a decent VPS, use Cloudflare for the DNS records for both the site and the subdomains for the proxies.

hw help websites proxy

  • @ and www.deepsoil.ml are being used for the local Corrosion proxy.
  • p.deepsoil.ml is being used for Palladium.
  • a.deepsoil.ml is being used for womginx.
  • cdn.deepsoil.ml is being used for a private Corrosion host on the official sites.

As stated previously, Holy Unblocker is hosted locally with Corrosion.

Heroku Steps

So you chose to use Heroku to host. I personally favor it as a free choice.

  • First obtain a card; (Prepaid, Debit, and Credit Cards work). You need this to add custom domains to your Heroku instance.

Make sure you connect your Heroku app to your GitHub and enable automatic deploys. Will make things easier. :)

Freenom/Domain Steps

For beginners, Freenom is a good provider for obtaining domains for free. However the catch is that you can only use properly "Freenom" domains for free being .cf, .ml, .gq, ga and .tk. However these can be blocked rather easily.

  • Get some Freenom domains then add them to your Heroku instance (Personal > [App Name] > Settings > Domains) Add a domain for both www.youdomainhere.cf and yourdomainhere.cf with .cf being interchangeable with other Freenom domain names.
  • If you prefer to obtain premium domains (TLDs) then use Porkbun , which offers domains for amazing prices. Literally a .net domain normally costs around $10. On Porkbun for the first year it costs $3 so its definitely a deal.

Cloudflare Steps

  • Use Cloudflare (make an account), add your site (Freenom Domain or other) and then add your various DNS targets to Cloudflare. Make sure you add Cloudflare's Nameservers which will be given later when you are adding your site.

Make sure they are CNAME although A records also work and try to follow this structure:

Type | Name | Target

CNAME | @ | your-main-heroku-target-here.herokudns.com CNAME | www | your-main-heroku-target-here.herokudns.com

Below are if you want external proxies also with your site:

CNAME | p | your-palladium-instance-here.herokudns.com CNAME | a | your-womginx-instance-here.herokudns.com CNAME | pd | your-pydodgeb-instance-here.herokudns.com

Make sure HTTPS is forced and have SSL set to Flexible for Heroku. Otherwise you can have SSL set to Full.

Preferably if you have your own device use Visual Studio Code. Pretty much the best option you can get but obviously this is an opinion. Also make sure you have Node.JS installed on your machine.

Not going to go too in depth with this part but first fork this repository. The clone it locally through a Terminal of some sort depending on what OS you are on. Make sure you navigate to the folder you want to set this up in.

Now simply add the folder you cloned this repo in in VSC. Then run npm install . I recommend that if you are releasing this publically on GitHub that you add a .gitignore in your root directory with the following exclusions:

Now you have your following workspace environment setup. To deploy the following workspace you just created you will need to look up depending on your hosting provider.

For an online IDE that you can use on your school computer and/or chromebook use GitPod. Basically the equivalent of Visual Studio Code but with in-browser support.

  • Make an account: https://gitpod.io/
  • Fork this repo and enter in this URL to setup your workspace: https://gitpod.io#https://github.com/YourNameHere/Holy-Unblocker/

Use the same steps above by running npm install in your repository and adding a .gitignore in your root directory specifying to exclude node_modules .

A detailed FAQ with common issues and solutions can be found here or on any official HU site on the FAQ page.

Why is the site I am on not working correctly or having CAPTCHA errors?

Captcha support is currently not available on all of the current proxies sadly. Therefore some sites may not work with any of the sites. Read below for issues with links on sites.

Why are some page links not working or leading to 404 pages?

This is an issue with the latest release of Alloy proxy but it may also occur with other proxies.

In this case manually entering the URL of the page you would like to view can solve this or try navigating using the home button. (Reddit, Twitter) The next release of Alloy may fix this also.

When using YouTube on any of the proxy sites, why does the page not load fully or the video is just white?

There are two methods for fixing this:

  • Reloading the page normally when the error above happens should load the video.
  • Or right-clicking the page and doing Reload Frame if you are using some form of Stealth Mode.

When using Discord under Alloy or SysYa, why does the page stay gray/white or the QR code not load?

Once again do the same steps above:

  • Reloading the page normally when the error above happens should load the video

Make sure you are also doing the steps correctly. Simply view link above for extended Discord proxy information/steps.

I am getting 502 errors. What do I do?

When this happens you may either switch sites to fix the error or wait a bit. Sometimes clearing your cache can help.

If you still have any questions feel free to ask them in the discord linked here.

How to Unblock Websites Blocked by School or Work Internet Filters

by Sam Chen | Last updated Aug 14, 2022 | Technology

Internet filters suck. Period. Whether you’re at school trying to access a website that could potentially contain essential information for a research project you’re working on or you’re at work trying to access a how to video on YouTube, schools, workplaces and even governments are all too often way overzealous in their attempts to restrict internet access.

For those affected by ridiculous internet filters, here are a few ways to to bypass the filters to access the blocked websites.

Unblock Blocked Websites

1. use https.

HTTPS stands for Hyperlink Text Transport Protocol Secured. Unlike regular old HTTP, HTTPS is encrypted, so many basic content filters monitoring network traffic should not be able to view the information transmitted. As a result, these content filters can’t filter out the websites either. In order to use HTTPS, just make sure the web address is HTTPS rather than HTTP. For example, https://www.gearprimer.com rather than https://www.gearprimer.com. The website you’re visiting will need to support HTTPS, which luckily most of the internet does. If not, you probably shouldn’t be visiting the site anyway.

How to Unblock Websites Blocked by School or Work Internet Filters 1

2. Use a Web Proxy

A web proxy is a website that acts as a proxy to access other websites for you. If the content filters at your school or place of work is blocking access to a specific list of websites, a web proxy can be an effective way of bypassing these filters as your system will be accessing the blocked site via another site so it won’t trigger the content filter. However, if the filter is also blocking all web proxies, you may be out of luck.

Some popular web proxy services include:

3. Use a VPN

While using HTTPS and/or using web proxies are effective for basic content filtering, stronger, more advanced internet filters will still unfortunately detect and block websites. These filters use much smarter algorithms to detect websites being accessed and as a result will require a more advanced solution to bypass as well.

The most effective method of bypassing content filters is to use a VPN . VPN services are like proxies in that your traffic is going through a VPN provider, except unlike proxies, VPNs use more powerful encryption ensuring that any traffic between your PC and the VPN provider is completely encrypted end to end. As such, as long as a connection to the VPN itself isn’t blocked, this will allow you to bypass any content filter without issue.

  • Windscribe (Free/Paid)
  • NordVPN (Paid)
  • ExpressVPN (Paid)

hw help websites proxy

I’d like to first start off this review with thanking the Kadama team, school has been getting a lot tougher on everyone whether that could be due to lack of effort or just not understanding but Kadama solves those problems. Kadama really understands what it’s like to be a student, they offer basically every course you could need help in and that’s not even mentioning the rewards you get. Kadama is one of the best apps I’ve seen for tutoring / studying not just because of how great the provided material is but they actually add in an extra treat, you can earn rewards through the app.

hw help websites proxy

This app is great. Finding tutors is quick and easy and best of all, they actually help you out well. The way this is promoted on tiktok/Instagram is really clever and honestly makes it even more fun. The tutors talk in a fun way as well making learning not boring but really interesting and fun. It feels like you have a tutor that genuinely wants to help you instead of a tutor teaching you for the money which is nice. Anyways, 10/10 tutoring app, it’s one of the best tutoring apps out there! I would recommend to a friend.

hw help websites proxy

Firstly I should start off by saying this app is really innovative in what it aims to accomplish. Setting up tutors to help students and letting students be tutors is a great app. Especially during this pandemic many students may suffer from learning disabilities and the tutors here might be able to help with that. The tutors have provided insightful feedback especially in regards to the SAT section.Second, the idea set that a student can help be a tutor is a very good idea as students who have a higher understanding of a subject can help another student who doesn’t.

hw help websites proxy

I’ve been tutoring on this app for some time now and the extra income has definitely helped these past few months. Payments are delivered daily and there’s no shortage of students - you earn as much as you’re willing to stay on the app.Lastly, the support staff has been nothing short of exceptional in my experience. They are responsive, friendly, and super helpful and have personally helped me on a number of occasions. Would highly recommend anyone interested in online tutoring to consider tutoring on Kadama.

hw help websites proxy

An app to get instant help on homework & essays. Kadama helps students work through their homework or problems 24/7. It is easy to use and makes learning fun and educational. They turn learning into rewards which is a great incentive and motivation for children and students. This also helps parents if they cannot afford tutoring for their children.

hw help websites proxy

I love this app and I just started today. I am on there as a tutor and I’ve helped about 3-4 kids today with some assistance on assignments. This is a great app to use if you are a broke college student and don’t mind helping kids or young adults to get money. As a student I love this app also people are very helpful. On video call and just messaging. It’s very convenient that is on your phone bc kids and young adults are always on there phones so it’s not like I’m waiting forever to get a tutor.

hw help websites proxy

I would first like to say that this app definitely overcomes the problems many students struggle with, especially now with the pandemic going on. It’s a great way to help students that have trouble understanding certain topics taught in school. I know from experience that learning from online isn’t easy and not the best way to completely understand lessons. Everyone learns differently so this app is great for those at home who are struggling with school!

hw help websites proxy

Kadama is an absolutely amazing app !! I use it as both a student and a tutor. The platform Is very fluid and it’s easy for me to communicate with my students and vice versa. Also While using the app I've had just about zero problems and any I have had Kadama has sorted them out in a timely manner . This app is absolutely amazing for both tutors and students , I’d 10/10 recommend that you give it a try !

hw help websites proxy

After covid started I was extremely worried my GPA would suffer due to the lack of in person instruction. I stumbled upon this app on tiktok and have been extremely satisfied ever sense. The tutors are extremely well versed in every subject, the customer service is amazing, and the app generally feels very smooth and well designed. Strongly recommend!!

hw help websites proxy

I think the app has a very clean and simple design that allows for efficient communication between tutors and students. It has a very good reputation line for tutors that have been on the app by giving them badges and sufficient rewards for their contribution. The pool of students who need help allows anyone who is willing to put in the time to have continuous opportunities.

hw help websites proxy

I've only had this app for less than a week and I have already completed 3 tutoring tasks to help students! This app made me realize that I enjoy teaching others! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to tutor and any student looking for help!

hw help websites proxy

As a user seeing both sides of the platform as a tutor and a student, this app is literally so helpful. Not only can I engage my brain from tutoring and learning I can get paid for it! The great thing about Kadama is that it’s literally so easy to use and you set everything up yourself!

5 Ways to Bypass Blocked Sites Without Using Proxies or VPNs

Why I'm Glad I Bought the M4 iPad Pro Over the Surface Pro

You can do time-lapse photography with your phone: try this, these photography rules leveled up my smartphone photos.

Picture the scene. You're at work or school, and in your downtime, you want to peruse a website. Maybe you want to check your social media feeds or need to watch YouTube for research purposes... but it's blocked.

You could use a proxy service or VPN, but proxies might be blocked too, and VPNs require additional effort (and payment in some instances). So how can you open banned sites without a VPN or proxy? Is there a way to access restricted sites and bypass Wi-Fi firewalls at school, college, and work?

Sites are blocked for a reason: in schools, for instance, it's likely for safeguarding, i.e. protecting students from harmful content. We don't endorse anyone getting round such blocks put in place for good reason; however, in some cases, material can be banned accidentally by overzealous filters or you might need access for research.

1. How to Access Banned Websites Using Short Links Without a Proxy

short links redirect

This is a hugely popular method because it works in most cases. However, that also means administrators are getting wise to it. Still, it should definitely be your first port of call.

Shortened URLs became prominent due to Twitter: back when addresses counted towards the character limit, using short links was a way of condensing a tweet. It's incredibly easy to do. You just copy a URL into a service like Bitly or TinyURL , and it'll give you something like:

Insert it into the address bar, and you should be redirected to where you want to go, bypassing any blocks that might be in place—fingers crossed.

2. Access Restricted Sites Using an IP Address

This way is somewhat comparable to going through shortened links. Though website URLs are blocked, IP addresses might not be.

A URL is a domain name, an IP address translated into words. So while you can see the MUO domain name at the top of this page, the IP address is 54.157.137.27.

How do you find the IP address of a restricted website? In the Windows search bar, search for "Command Prompt." Then type in "tracert" and the desired domain name, and then click Enter . The IP address should appear, and you can copy this into the search bar of your browser.

Most browsers default to HTTPS, so you'll likely see a warning that your connection is not private . If you're sure you want to proceed, you can continue regardless.

3. How to Use Translation Services to Access Blocked Sites

unblock sites using translation services

You're probably familiar with services like Google Translate or Microsoft Translator. Many search engines and browsers offer translation options . Their standard offering is changing one language into another, so you can convert any sentence from English to Japanese, Urdu, French, etc., and back again.

It also translates whole websites—whether you actually need them translated or not. And that's why it's helpful here too.

Visit your chosen translation service. Whatever the site, follow the instructions and type the URL into the text box. For Google Translate, for example, you'll need to change the tab to Websites as it defaults to "Text". Now, click on the link in the translation output. You'll be redirected to it, but chances are that the blocks used otherwise will miss the page as it'll appear under a different address. It will look something like:

It's not perfect. It'll struggle with video streaming, adverts, and social media sites, for example, and responsive pages won't be as smooth as they're intended to be. Still, if it's an article you need to read for research reasons, it's ideal.

And anything you access within the translation window should also bypass your browser's restrictions!

4. Convert Pages to PDF to Access Blocked Websites

unblock websites by viewing via PDFs

You'll generally need to sign up for this method to work. However, it's worth it, not just for reading censored pages but also for creating content that's easy to share and a pleasure to read.

There are plenty of services available online which will convert websites and more into PDFs : you just have to choose whether you want to pay for it or not.

Take Five Filters' PDF Newspaper for instance, a free PHP app that transforms articles into, effectively, a personal publication. You can read output from all your favorite sites in printable A4 or A5 sheets that are more aesthetically pleasing than RSS feeds.

You could use it to bypass blocks because Five Filters does the work of scouring a webpage for you.

It's useless for YouTube, Twitter, and viewing embedded content, but don't knock it until you've tried it. Of course, you'll need to know the exact addresses for articles, as you can't peruse a site. A simple Google search should help you with that; that is, if you know the webpage name. You could combine this technique with another method of bypassing restrictions to fully explore what you want to.

Further alternatives include PDFMyURL , ToPDF.org , and WebToPDF (which lets you view the results in your browser or via email).

5. Tether to Your Phone to Unblock Restricted Sites

You want to view a blocked site. You don't want to bypass using a proxy or VPN. You're clearly a rebel who doesn't play by anyone's rules but your own. In such a case, you won't have any grievances about using your phone when you possibly shouldn't.

The idea here is that you use the internet via tethering your smartphone , so yes, you'll need a top quality data plan to do this. It's not worth it if you just want to read something from a censored site, but if you want to watch YouTube and nothing else is working, this should work... though it's likely to be slow.

Go to Settings . From there, the method will vary slightly depending on your operating system.

On iOS, just turn on Personal Hotspot and note the password. It'll give you the option of connecting through Wi-Fi, USB (if you were really prepared!), or Bluetooth. From there, follow the instructions in that section. To tether Android devices , you'll need to go to Network & internet and then Hotspot & tethering .

This should really only be in emergencies, however, as you risk substantial bills if you go over your data usage limits. And be aware that your organization's IT department might have blocked connection to new Wi-Fi networks.

How to Bypass Firewalls and Blocks Without a Proxy or VPN

Whether you want to access banned adult sites, visit restricted pages for research, or watch a YouTube video in college, it is possible to open restricted content without a VPN or proxy.

Not everyone has the knowledge to effectively use VPNs or proxy sites, but using these techniques, you should be more than capable of bypassing any blocks you encounter without jumping through too many hoops.

  • Online Privacy

How to unblock websites on Chrome and Firefox from anywhere

twitter-icon

When a website is blocked, you’ll see some sort of error message or a page indicating that you’ve encountered a blocked site.

page not available connection reset

Websites can be blocked in a few different ways:

  • IP blacklisting

DNS tampering

Keyword filtering.

We’ll explain these in more detail further down. Before that, we’ll discuss the one-size-fits-all solution for all but the toughest web censorship: a VPN.

Short for Virtual Private Network, a VPN encrypts all the data going to and from the internet and re-routes it through an intermediary server. The VPN acts as a proxy that accomplishes two things:

  • Hides what websites you visit from anyone monitoring your internet connection, such as a school, office, or internet service provider
  • Masks your real IP address with that of the VPN server so that websites can’t block you by IP or location

Our top recommendation is NordVPN , a VPN provider that offers an easy-to-use  app that can unblock blocked websites in more than 61 countries. It boasts robust security and fast speeds, so you can stream video through it or use it while gaming. NordVPN’s browser extension for Chrome and Firefox enables you to use the VPN without installing a separate app. It comes with a money-back guarantee that you can take advantage of any time in the first 30 days, no questions asked.

How to use a VPN to unblock websites at school, work, or abroad

nord vpn browser extensions

VPNs make unblocking websites easy. Just follow these instructions:

  • Sign up for a VPN. We recommend NordVPN .
  • Download and install the VPN app or web browser extension.
  • Select a VPN server in the location you want to browse from and hit Connect .
  • Wait for the connection to be established, then open the blocked website. It should now be accessible.

NordVPN connected

Many VPNs, NordVPN included, offer both native apps that install on your operating system and browser extensions that plug into Chrome and Firefox. If you just need to unblock websites, a browser extension should be sufficient and you won’t have to worry about not having administrative privileges to install software.

But note that with a browser extension, traffic from apps and services outside of your web browser won’t go through the VPN. If you need to unblock some other app or the browser extension doesn’t get the job done, try installing the native app for Windows or Mac instead.

If you’re trying to access restricted websites from abroad, be sure to connect your VPN to a country where the site in question is not censored. For example, BBC iPlayer is only available to people in the UK, so you could connect to a VPN server in London (or elsewhere in the UK) to access it.

How websites get blocked

To understand how websites are blocked, you first need to have a basic grasp of IP addresses and DNS.

IP blocking

Every device connected to the internet has a unique public IP address, including servers where websites are hosted and end user devices like the one you’re using right now.

One IP address for this website is 199.115.114.66, a unique address for the web server on which this site is hosted.

If a network administrator at a school, office, or internet service provider wanted to block this website, they could set up a firewall rule to block any traffic to or from IP address 199.115.114.66.

When you use a VPN, internet traffic first goes to the VPN, and then to the website. The school or office only sees the IP address of the VPN server and not the IP address of the website. Because the VPN server IP address hasn’t been blocked, the user can access the blocked website through it.

IP blacklisting is limited in that many websites have multiple IP addresses because they’re so big. YouTube, for example, uses several IP addresses. IP addresses are not always permanent, so blocking a site by its IP address might not work or might only work temporarily.

Enter DNS tampering.

Also known as DNS hijacking, DNS poisoning, or DNS spoofing, DNS tampering is frequently used as a means to block websites.

Let’s say you’re at a school where this website is blocked. The domain of this website is “comparitech.com.” When you click a link to this page or enter the page URL into your web browser’s address bar, a request containing the domain is sent to a DNS server.

DNS, or Domain Name System, works like a phone book for the internet. Instead of names and phone numbers, it associates domain names with IP addresses. The DNS server looks up the IP address associated with the “comparitech.com” domain name. Under normal circumstances, in response to the request, the DNS server sends back the IP address of the server where Comparitech is hosted. This allows your device to connect to the website and load the page in Chrome or Firefox.

DNS tampering involves changing the phone book. Whomever operates the DNS server can remove or change the IP address associated with “comparitech.com.” Without knowing the correct IP address, the user will either see an error page or be redirected to another site, such as a page indicating you’re trying to access blocked content. This is a common tactic used by China’s Great Firewall to block Facebook, YouTube, and hundreds of other sites. Because domain names rarely change, DNS tampering is far more reliable than just blocking IP addresses.

DNS tampering is more tricky to overcome but most good VPNs these days can bypass it. The VPN will use its own DNS servers instead of the ones provided by your school, office, or ISP. This ensures your DNS hasn’t been poisoned and pages will be unblocked.

Note that not all VPNs can solve this problem, and that’s doubly true for VPN browser extensions. DNS traffic is often sent outside of the web browser and VPNs might leak DNS traffic. Look for a VPN that offers “DNS leak prevention” to ensure you’ll be able to unblock websites. NordVPN’s web browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox include DNS leak protection, which is rare for VPN plugins.

Keyword filtering is less common than other methods of website blocking but might still be an obstacle in schools and offices. A VPN might or might not help depending on where the filtering takes place.

The concept is simple: if a website contains certain words, then block it. Unlike DNS tampering and IP blacklisting, this form of censorship doesn’t require the network administrator to know which sites to block ahead of time. Instead, the webpage is scanned for certain keywords before it can be viewed. Schools can use this method to block sites containing profanity, for example.

Keyword filtering can take place on the network or on the end user device.

If it takes place on the network, then the page is scanned before it arrives on your device. Put simply, the school, ISP, or office intercepts the page, scans its contents, and then decides whether to block it or let it pass to the end user device. A VPN encrypts all of your device’s internet traffic, so the network administrator will not be able to view the page and therefore cannot block it if you’re connected to a VPN.

If keyword filtering takes place on the end user’s device, then a VPN will not help. This might be the case when parental monitoring software or a similar program is installed on a school or office computer. The page is blocked after it arrives on your device based on any sensitive keywords it finds. Because a VPN only protects data in transit across a network, it can’t do anything about a program that scans pages after they’ve reached your web browser. To unblock a site that’s been keyword filtered locally, you’ll have to disable the monitoring software. Perhaps try using a different web browser.

Geo-blocking and IP banning

Geo-blocking and IP banning happens the other way around from all the other blocking methods in this article. It occurs when the website itself blocks you instead of your school, office, or ISP. Websites typically block users based on their IP address or where their DNS servers are located.

Websites that block people based on their location—geo-blocking—usually do so using IP addresses. An IP address not only identifies your device, it also points to your approximate location. A website restricted to users in the UK will block anyone with an American IP address, for example. This is known as “geo-blocking.”

DNS servers are usually operated locally and thus are also a good indicator of your location.

Once again, a good VPN service with DNS leak protection is the solution. Make sure the VPN you choose has servers in the country or city from which you need to access blocked websites. NordVPN has over 6,000 servers in more than 61 countries, so you should be covered.

Note that many websites have caught onto this tactic and have started blocking IP addresses of known VPN servers. This is the case with several video streaming websites like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime Video. If you want to access one of these sites – while traveling abroad, for example – then Comparitech has plenty of resources for finding the best VPN. That being said, NordVPN works with the majority of geo-blocked sites that we’ve tested.

Other ways to unblock websites

Google translate.

unblock websites with google translate

Google Translate includes a feature that allows you to translate entire websites in your browser. You’ll still be on the Google Translate website, but the site you want to unblock appears in your browser window. Here’s how to unblock websites with Google Translate:

  • Copy and paste the URL of the site you want to unblock into Google Translate.
  • Click the hyperlink that appears in the translated box.
  • You’ll see an error page that says the page is already in English. Near the top, click the dropdown menu next to To: and select any language other than English.
  • You’ll now see the page in another language. At the top right, click Original to view the page.

This might or might not work depending on the blocking technique used, and don’t expect all website functions to work normally. That being said, it’s a quick and free way to access blocked sites.

Proxy sites

A quick Google search will bring up no shortage of free proxy sites that you can use to unblock websites from school or the office. Be cautious, however, as many of these sites are neither safe nor private. Chances are the proxy is not encrypted like a VPN, so it can monitor all of your online activity, including any information you enter into the page.

These sites work similarly to the Google Translate method above by displaying a page within a page. Again, don’t expect everything on the site to function normally.

Proxy extensions

Proxy extensions for Chrome and Firefox come in many shapes and sizes. SOCKS and HTTP proxies are the most common. Some proxy extensions like Proxy SwitchySharp for Chrome and FoxyProxy for Firefox let you configure your own proxy extension, but you’ll need a proxy server on hand.

Beware of free browser plugins that come with built-in proxy servers. Like proxy websites, they probably aren’t very private or safe. Plus, any proxy extension that doesn’t authenticate users—no password required—is inherently less safe than those that do and are vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks .

NordVPN’s browser extension encrypts traffic, prevents DNS leaks, and requires authentication to use, making it significantly more secure than the vast majority of proxy extensions.

tails running tor browser check

Tor is an anonymity network that can potentially help unblock websites. Tor uses proxies to make the user untraceable by sending internet traffic through a series of random nodes around the world. This will give you a different IP address and hide the websites you’re visiting from your school, office, or government.

The easiest way to get started with Tor is by downloading the Tor Browser, an alternative browser to Firefox and Chrome that sends all internet traffic through the Tor Network.

Tor comes with a few caveats, however. It’s slow, for one. Second, while Tor is legal, it’s often associated with criminals and hackers. Your school, office, government, or internet service provider might frown upon Tor usage in any form as a result. Plus, some websites block Tor users altogether.

Change your DNS servers

If DNS tampering (see above) is the method used to block websites, you might be able to overcome it by changing your default DNS servers. DNS servers are usually operated by internet service providers, though your school or office might use their own. You can change DNS servers in your internet settings.

A good free option is Cloudflare, which operates secure, private DNS servers. You can learn how to set up Cloudflare DNS here . If you need DNS servers for a particular region or country, try OpenNIC.

Good VPNs like Nord operate their own private DNS servers. A few providers offer smart DNS proxy services that are adept at unblocking geo-blocked content, though there’s not much benefit to these over a VPN.

Note that if DNS tampering is not the blocking method being used, changing your DNS servers won’t make a difference.

Facts & Expert Analysis About Free Proxy Sites

  • Poor Encryption: Proxy services either use weak encryption protocols like SSL and HTTPS or don’t use any encryption at all.
  • Changing Locations: Proxy websites change your location but don’t protect you from advanced cyberattacks or help you circumvent censorship and government surveillance.
  • Bad for Bypassing Streaming Geoblocks: Proxy services can’t access streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Max and Disney Plus.

Though the best VPN offers top-notch security and privacy, it can be overkill for certain web use cases. For example, if you want to mask your IP address, access geo-blocked websites or compare prices around the world, the best free proxy websites will suffice. However, the market is awash with proxy websites, and picking the best one can be burdensome.

We scoured the web and found numerous free proxy websites. We then tested these sites and browser extensions to narrow the list to the 10 best free proxy websites. In this guide, we’ll highlight how each proxy website works to help you pick one that suits your needs.

We rewrote this guide to update our proxy recommendations and increase the list to 10. It also provides more information in an easy-to-read format and includes a how-to guide.

When to Use a Free Proxy Website

Use a free proxy website to browse anonymously or unblock geo-restricted content on a private or secure network. For example, you can use a free proxy website to access a website or social media channel that’s unavailable or restricted in your country on your home WiFi.

However, we don’t recommend using a free proxy website on unsecured networks such as public WiFi or in countries where anonymizers and VPNs are banned. Remember that proxy website encryption is either non-existent or weak, and it doesn’t shield you from government surveillance or cyberattacks.

Try one of the best free VPNs to enjoy an advanced level of security and privacy, and keep cyberattacks and government surveillance at bay. We’ll shed more light on how proxy websites differ from virtual private networks (VPNs) later in the article.

Benefits & Disadvantages of Using Free Proxies

  • Proxy websites mask your IP address, enabling you to browse the web anonymously
  • Proxy websites enable you to access blocked websites and services regardless of location
  • Proxy websites cache popular websites, speeding up data transfer
  • Most proxy websites are free to use
  • Free proxy websites have limited security & privacy features — they are designed to reroute internet traffic & nothing more
  • Free proxy websites have limited privacy since they don’t encrypt your traffic
  • Some free proxy websites store user data & browsing logs
  • Some free proxy websites can cause web browsing slowdowns
  • Some free proxy websites are fraught with digital ads

How to Choose the Best Free Proxy Service

When looking for the best free proxy service, choose a service with solid security and privacy, servers in countries relevant to your needs, and consistent speeds and uptime. Let’s get into the details of the selection criteria:

  • Proxy server locations: Pick a service with a nice spread of proxy servers, preferably one with servers in countries where the websites and services you want to unblock are located.
  • Security and privacy features: Pick a proxy website with the strongest encryption to protect your data, such as AES 256-bit.
  • Speed and reliability: Choose a free proxy website that doesn’t slow down your connection and has excellent uptime to ensure access any day, any time.
  • No-logs policy: Choose a free proxy website backed by a strict no-logs policy, which guarantees it won’t gather or store your data, browsing history or logs.
  • Usage limits: Choose a proxy website without usage limits or one that offers usage limits relevant to your specific needs. For example, if you want to send large files, choose a service with no file size limitation. If you want to make numerous web requests, choose a free proxy with no daily request limitation.

1. CyberGhost Proxy — Best Free Proxy

CyberGhost proxy browser extension

More details about CyberGhost Proxy:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Website: cyberghostvpn.com
  • Ad-free browsing experience
  • Firefox & Chrome extensions
  • IP addresses in 4 countries
  • No DNS leaks
  • Limited IP options

CyberGhost’s proxy plugin stands out because it protects all browser traffic rather than traffic to a specific site. The proxy service passed our DNS leak test, meaning it doesn’t leak your traffic to internet service providers (ISPs). It’s also secure enough to block malicious content and protect you when using public WiFi connections.

CyberGhost’s proxy offers IP addresses in the U.S., Romania, the Netherlands and Germany, making it ideal for accessing geo-restricted sites in those countries. However, it isn’t apt for circumventing government censorship or workplace firewalls. In addition, WebRTC leaks of our IP address occurred during testing, so it may not be ideal for thwarting advanced cyber threats.

2. hide.me — Best SOCKS Proxy

Hide.me proxy site

More details about hide.me:

  • Website: hide.me
  • No manual setup needed
  • IP addresses in 3 countries
  • No download required
  • Works on all web browsers
  • Some sites don’t open on the proxy browser

hide.me is a SOCKS proxy service from a reputable VPN provider, so it excels at security and privacy. It supports SSL encryption, which guarantees high levels of security for data transferred between the browser and website server. Even better, the hide.me proxy service abides by the provider’s no-logs policy, meaning it doesn’t collect or store your data or browsing history.

You don’t need to download any app to use the hide.me proxy service — just open the proxy’s website, type in a website URL and click “ go .” Depending on your IP address needs, you can tweak the proxy location to Finland, Germany or the Netherlands. The only issue we had with the hide.me proxy is that it couldn’t bypass geoblocks on some websites.

3. PlainProxies — Best Proxy for Data Scraping

PlainProxies for web scraping

More details about PlainProxies:

  • Pricing : Free, $31.70 per week
  • Website : plainproxies.com
  • No download or installation
  • Servers in over 50 countries
  • No ads on the free plan
  • No rate limits
  • Can’t select proxy server location on free plan

PlainProxies is a robust web data scraping platform with a robust proxy infrastructure and web scraping APIs. It has proxy servers in more than 50 countries but doesn’t disclose IP address options to free users.

PlainProxies randomly connects you to a server in its infrastructure, but you can’t pick a preferred proxy server location. This can be off-putting for users looking to access content in specific countries. During our testing, PlainProxies connected us to a Polish server.

This minor issue aside, PlainProxies is one of the few free proxies that offer an ad-free browsing experience. It also doesn’t impose rate limits, allowing you to browse the web and gather data without worrying about hitting bandwidth or DNS request limits.

4. CroxyProxy — Best Proxy Browser

CroxyProxy proxy site

More details about CroxyProxy:

  • Pricing: Free, $3.50 per month
  • Website: croxyproxy.com
  • Paid servers in 6 countries
  • Service ads on the free plan
  • Doesn’t unblock some sites

CroxyProxy’s free proxy website uses SSL encryption to protect you online, especially when accessing websites that don’t use HTTPS. Sadly, CroxyProxy had DNS leaks during our testing, so it’s not ideal for users on unsecured networks and might not guard you against advanced online threats.

However, it ticks the box for accessing blocked websites over private connections. Its standout feature is the auto-suggest tool in the proxy search function. All you need to do is type in a keyword and the tool will suggest relevant websites and services — just like Google does.

CroxyProxy doesn’t allow free users to change the proxy server location. You have to upgrade to a paid plan to use the full range of IP addresses in the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Germany, Canada and Israel. Paid users also enjoy an ad-free browsing experience.

5. VPNBook — Best Proxy for YouTube

VPNBook proxy site

More details about VPNBook:

  • Website: vpnbook.com
  • Free servers in 3 countries
  • 256-bit SSL-encrypted traffic
  • Frequent service ads
  • Cluttered user interface

VPNBook acts like a proxy browser, enabling you to bypass geoblocks to access restricted content without downloading or installing an app. The service uses SSL encryption to protect you on unsecured websites, such as those that don’t use HTTPS. Sadly, its encryption isn’t strong enough to circumvent government censorship or other strict firewalls and geoblocks.

The web interface looks cluttered because of the incessant ads, which ruin the browsing experience. That aside, VPNBook offers proxy servers in three countries: the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. You can set the proxy server option to “ random ” to allow VPNBook to pick an optimal server for the best performance.

6. Steganos Proxy — Best Proxy for U.S. Users in Europe

Steganos proxy website

More details about Steganos proxy:

  • Website: steganos.com
  • Free servers in 4 countries
  • Ad-free experience

The free Steganos proxy is chock-full of service ads. Behind the ad-cluttered interface is a reliable proxy website with IP address options in the U.S., Germany, France and Spain. It’s great for U.S. residents looking to bypass regional blocking to access content and compare product prices in Europe and vice versa.

Keep in mind that since the Steganos web proxy isn’t encrypted, it can’t unblock streaming services. This free proxy doesn’t leak your DNS requests, but our test results showed that it had WebRTC leaks. When connected to the proxy, strict geoblocking systems — such as those that streaming services use — will easily pick up your actual location and block your attempt.

7. ProxySite — Free Proxy With No Install Required

ProxySite multiple servers

More details about ProxySite:

  • Pricing: Free
  • Website: proxysite.com
  • Free EU & U.S. proxy servers
  • Supports SSL encryption
  • Doesn’t open certain sites

You don’t have to download or install an app to use ProxySite. Just pop over to the free proxy website, type in the URL of the service or website you want to access and click “go .” The service will present the results in a flash. The only issue is that ProxySite is laden with service ads, which can ruin the browsing experience.

ProxySite claims to have 20 servers in the U.S. and 18 in Europe. However, we determined that the servers are spread across four countries. There are 10 servers in the U.S. and nine in Canada, and the European servers are located in France and Belgium. Since ProxySite allows you to pick specific servers, you can test them out to find one with optimal performance.

8. Whoer Web Proxy — Best Free Proxy For Dutch Websites

Whoer free service

More details about Whoer:

  • Website: whoer.net
  • Works on all major browsers
  • 22 paid proxy locations
  • No rate limit
  • Limited connection speed
  • Frequent connection errors
  • Only one free proxy server

Whoer is a web proxy that works flawlessly on all major browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Sidekick, Vivaldi, Brave, Opera and Yandex. We installed the Chrome web proxy and the process was straightforward. Using the proxy app is easy — just select the server location and toggle the “on/off” button.

With the free version, you can only connect to the Netherlands proxy server, which is suitable for accessing Dutch-specific sites and services. When connected, Whoer protects all your browser traffic. The only issue is that the plugin is glitchy, and it took us multiple attempts to connect to the Netherlands proxy server.

9. Proxyium — Free Proxy With No Rate Limits

Proxyium proxy site

More details about Proxyium:

  • Website: proxyium.com

Proxyium offers a simple way to anonymously access blocked websites and digital services. It has free proxy servers in Poland, the United States, Singapore and Germany. The servers are ranked based on their speed. By default, Proxyium connects you to the fastest server, enabling you to enjoy a fast browsing experience.

Proxyium SSL encryption passed our DNS leak test but had WebRTC leaks, which isn’t surprising given its comparatively weak encryption. Leak issues aside, the proxy service doesn’t have a download limit, so you can use it all day without worrying about blowing through DNS requests or data limits.

10. FilterBypass — Free Proxy for Social Media

FilterBypass browser plugin

More details about FilterBypass:

  • Website: Chrome web store
  • Doesn’t disclose IP options
  • Not easy to use

Last on our list is FilterBypass, a browser proxy plugin suitable for circumventing firewalls and gaining access to social media sites in countries that ban them. You’d expect this browser plugin service to encrypt all browser traffic, but that’s not the case. FilterBypass requires you to select the domain to proxy. For example, if you choose YouTube.com, it will proxy traffic to YouTube.

You can’t pick a proxy server, so you don’t have control over where your traffic is routed. You only need to define the domain to proxy and FilterBypass will relay your traffic through a random server built to circumvent censorship.

Using FilterBypass can be tricky for beginners. You don’t select the domain to proxy on the app. Instead, when you click “ options ,” FilterBypass takes you to a web page where you can choose the domain. After that, you have to toggle the “ proxy mode ” button to proxy traffic to the selected domains.

Proxy Alternatives: Free Proxy Servers vs VPNs

Proxies and VPNs mask your real IP address and reroute your traffic through a remote server. However, they differ in that proxies rarely encrypt your traffic. On the other hand, VPNs use robust encryption, such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), for extra security and online privacy. Learn more in our VPN vs Proxy vs Tor guide.

The following table shows the key areas where VPNs and proxies differ:

:
Uses advanced encryption standards like AES 256-bit, ChaCha20 or IKEv2Uses no encryption or weak encryption standard
Unblocks virtually any online service, including streaming services, geo-restricted websites and social mediaUnblocks blocked websites and social media, can’t unblock streaming sites
Bypasses the strictest surveillance and censorship systems like the Great Firewall of ChinaCan’t bypass censorship or surveillance
Most VPN providers adhere to a strict no-logs policyMost web proxies don’t have a logging policy and will log your browsing history and IP address
Some providers are incredibly fast; others are slowSpeed varies, but some web proxies offer limited speeds
Protects the entire device’s trafficProtects traffic to the proxied website only
Large pool of servers to prevent server overcrowdingA small number of proxy servers can cause overcrowding during peak hours
Varies, but all providers require you to download a VPN appEasy to use — no download or installation required
Free and paidUsually free
Excellent customer support options like live chat and emailNo customer support

Final Thoughts

The best free proxy website masks your real IP address, allowing you to browse the internet anonymously. However, proxy websites have limited capabilities. For example, they lack the advanced encryption required to bypass censorship and surveillance, thwart cyberattacks or unblock streaming services.

For these reasons, don’t use proxy websites to protect yourself on public networks or in countries with heavy censorship and surveillance. If you must use an anonymizing app in countries with censorship or need to access streaming services, we recommend trying a top VPN like ExpressVPN for extra online security and reliable unblocking.

Have you used a free web proxy before? Which proxy service did you use, and for what purpose? Did the web proxy serve its purpose? We’d like to hear about it in the comment section. As always, thanks for reading.

How to set a browser proxy server in Windows

How to set a browser proxy server in Windows

Proxy servers are intermediaries between your PC and the internet. When your browser uses a proxy server, the websites you access see the proxy as the actual visitor instead of your computer. This can improve your online privacy and security while also helping you bypass content restrictions on the internet. Enterprises also use proxies in order to monitor, filter, and secure what their employees browse on the internet, in an effort to ensure that the accessed content respects the company’s policies. Read this tutorial to find out how to change Chrome’s proxy settings and configure a proxy in Firefox, as well as the steps to set up a proxy for Edge, Opera, and Opera GX in Windows. Let’s get started:

NOTE: If you don’t know what a proxy server is and why you may want to use one, you should first read this article: What is a proxy server? What are its benefits & drawbacks? . Then, depending on what browser you’re using, skip to the chapter below that applies to it.

How to change Chrome’s proxy settings

Chrome does not offer any unique configuration options for setting a proxy server because it uses the same proxy settings as Windows 11 or Windows 10. To change Google Chrome’s proxy settings, first, click or tap on the “Customize and control Google Chrome” button from the browser’s top-right corner. Its icon looks like three vertical dots. Then, click or tap on Settings .

This opens Windows’ proxy settings page from the Settings app. Here, regardless of whether you’re using Windows 11 or Windows 10, you get the same options to automatically configure the proxy settings with a script address or use a manually selected proxy server. However, things look a bit differently in the two operating systems, so here’s what you should expect to see in Windows 11 versus Windows 10:

In Windows 11, the Proxy page from the Settings app contains all the options available for configuring and changing the browser proxy server. What you’ll see should be similar to the screenshot following this paragraph. If you need help setting a proxy on your Windows 11 computer, I recommend reading this in-depth guide: How to set the proxy settings in Windows 11 .

  • Unblock Websites

Our Verdict

The easiest way to unblock websites is to use a virtual private network (VPN) . VPNs are easy to use and change your IP address to bypass website geo-blocks on a range of devices. To unblock websites without a VPN, you can use a web proxy, mobile data, or the Tor browser, although they each have significant drawbacks.

How to unblock websites

Websites can be blocked by governments, ISPs, copyright holders, website owners, and network administrators at school, college, and work.

Typically, these blocks are based on your IP address, geolocation, or local network. Fortunately, there are lots of different tools you can use to unblock websites.

We’ve tested over 20 different methods to find the most effective way to unblock websites on different devices.

Quick Guide: How to Unblock Websites Using a VPN

  • Choose a VPN and install it onto your device . If you need help picking one, read our our top-rated VPNs .
  • Open the VPN app and choose a server location . If you’re trying to unblock geo-restricted content, select a server in the location you require.
  • Connect to the server location . You can run an IP address test to verify it has changed.
  • Visit the blocked website . The site you’re trying to access will now be unblocked.

Based on our findings, a VPN is the most effective tool for unblocking websites using any browser. VPN software bypasses even the strictest website blocks, is very easy to set up on almost any device, and delivers fast connection speeds.

How to Unblock Websites (6 Methods)

The best method for unblocking a website will depend on the type of block in place and the reasoning behind it .

After testing 20 different methods, we’ve summarized the most effective and easiest ways to unblock websites, along with their strengths and weaknesses, in the table below.

Method Cost Ease of Use Unblock Websites Unblock Streaming Services Speed Security
Free or Paid Easy Yes Yes Fast High
Free Very Easy Yes No Slow Low
Free or Paid Easy Yes Yes Fast Moderate
Free Easy Yes Yes Moderate Moderate
Paid Moderate Yes Yes Fast Low
Free Difficult Yes Sometimes Slow Low

Below is a more detailed look at each method, with simple step-by-step instructions for unblocking websites.

1. Use a VPN

Effective way to unblock websites Some have a subscription fee
Easy to use apps on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS & Firestick Installation required
Encrypts your web traffic Slows network speeds
Range of server locations Dangerous VPNs might log your sensitive data
Customer support

Using a VPN is the most reliable way to unblock websites and access restricted URLs .

VPNs work by encrypting your web traffic and routing it via a remote VPN server. This hides your IP address and geographic location from the websites you visit.

It also prevents your ISP, government, and Wi-Fi admin (e.g., at home, at work, or on public WiFi) from being able to monitor your browsing activity .

Not all VPNs are created equally, though. Some come with obfuscated servers designed to unblock streaming services and bypass simple firewalls, while others fail to unblock any streaming services at all.

Thankfully, there are many high-quality, affordable VPNs on the market — like PIA which costs just $2.03 per month on a two-year subscription. This is a great value VPN, especially since the average cost of a VPN is around $4.00 per month on a multi-year subscription.

ExpressVPN Streaming Channel 4

ExpressVPN unblocks Channel 4 on desktop, mobile, and home devices.

VPN apps are simple to install on a range of devices, making it the most versatile method to unblock websites. You can use a VPN to access restricted content on your phone, computer, tablet, and even on a Smart TV or Amazon Firestick.

However, if you’re using a public computer or school computer, you might find your administrator restricts app installations . If that’s the case, we recommend using a web proxy, proxy browser extension, or mobile data instead.

To learn more about bypassing website blocks at school and college, read our specific instructions on how to unblock websites at school .

How to Unblock Websites with a VPN:

  • Subscribe to a trustworthy VPN. We recommend ExpressVPN .
  • Set up the VPN. Install the VPN on desktop, tablet, or mobile. Launch the app and sign in to your account.
  • Choose a server location. Select a server location nearby or in a specific country to unblock a website.
  • Connect to the server. Click on the connect or power button.
  • Browse the internet. You’re now connected to a VPN server and can unblock websites.

2. Use a Web Proxy

Free Doesn’t work with streaming
Requires no setup or manual installation Most proxies are unencrypted, so ISPs and network administrators can still see your activity
Unblocks text-based content May break website functionality
Easy to use & no installation Slower speeds
Some let you choose a server location Can be extremely dangerous
Website owners & network admins sometimes block web proxy sites
Only works in one tab

Using a web proxy is another quick and easy way to unblock websites for free. To do this, simply find a proxy site, enter the URL you want to unblock, press enter, and the restricted content should appear.

Like a VPN, a web proxy works by routing your web traffic through a remote server on its way to your desired website. This temporarily replaces your IP address with the IP address of the proxy server, effectively hiding your physical location from the website you’re visiting.

Hide.me proxy unblocking a website

Hide.me Proxy is able to unblock simple text-based websites.

Free web proxies have some serious limitations, though. They only work in a single browser tab and typically don’t work with streaming apps or websites like YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+.

This is because free proxies lack obfuscation and their IP pools are easily identified by streaming services and infrequently recycled.

In our tests, web proxies weren’t ideal for everyday browsing. They failed to unblock social media sites like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. We also couldn’t load free web games with a web proxy on CrazyGames, Poke, and AGame.

Web proxies typically offer no encryption . Some inject your traffic with ads and malware, or leak your real IP address to websites. They’ve even been known to capture usernames and passwords if you use it to log in to streaming services or other accounts.

Overall, free web proxies might be a great one-time solution to unblock websites, but they’re not secure or effective enough to use on a daily basis for streaming, social media, or gaming.

  • Copy your chosen website URL.
  • Open a web proxy site. We recommend Hide.me or Proxyium, which are both free to use.
  • Paste your website URL.
  • Choose a server location. Select a server nearby for less speed loss.
  • Turn on security features. Some VPNs offer TLS encryption and block cookies.
  • Click Go. You’re connected to a proxy server and can browse your chosen website.

3. Use a VPN or Proxy Browser Extension

Easy to use extensions Some require a VPN subscription
Unblocks websites easily Usually weaker encryption
GPS spoofing for unblocking streaming services Only works on one browser tab
Range of server locations Not available on mobile
Available with Chrome, Firefox & Edge

If you spend a lot of time in a specific browser and ease of use is your priority, we recommend using a VPN or proxy browser extension. A proxy browser extension is a midpoint between a VPN and a web proxy .

A browser extension is not as simple or as quick to set up as a web proxy, but we found them to be more effective and reliable for unblocking websites than web proxies .

For example, in our tests, browser extensions allowed us to stream YouTube videos, whereas most web proxies failed at that hurdle.

Some VPN and proxy browser extensions are free (like Windscribe Free and TunnelBear Free), but most are part of a paid subscription (e.g. ExpressVPN and NordVPN).

NordVPN Chrome Extension on macOS

Our tests found that the NordVPN Chrome extension works with US Netflix, but not consistently.

It’s important to keep in mind that a VPN browser extensions are effective, but a majority of them are actually proxy extensions, so they don’t offer the same level of protection and encryption as a VPN app.

How to Unblock Websites with a Proxy or VPN Browser Extension:

  • Register with a VPN that offers a browser extension . We recommend ExpressVPN , NordVPN or Windscribe Free .
  • Add the extension to your browser. Go to your VPN’s official website and navigate to their downloads page. Find your chosen browser’s add-on and install it from the correct store.
  • Connect to a server. Open the extension and connect to a server. Now you can browse the web and unblock websites.

4. Use Mobile Data

Unblocks websites and apps on mobile, including streaming, gaming & social media Requires good signal
Hotspot to other devices like tablets or laptops Personal hotspots can drain mobile battery and data quickly
Fast speeds (depending on your provider)
Prevents your school or work network admin from monitoring your activity

One of the easiest ways to unblock a website on your phone is to switch from WiFi to cellular data .

This lets you access any app or site that’s blocked by your network admin, so you can access social media, stream video, play games, and generally browse the web without interruptions.

Bear in mind that this only works if you want to bypass network-level blocks . Some school-issued devices and business laptops are configured to only use that institution’s WiFi or have content filtering software installed into the device.

Mobile service setting on iPhone

Go to your mobile settings to disconnect from WiFi and use 3G, 4G or 5G.

Another drawback is that your monthly data will likely run out faster if you’re using it often. You’re also reliant on your cellular phone provider’s signal to browse the internet, which could be an issue if you’re outside a major town or city.

Using this method, you can also turn your phone into a personal hotspot and share your internet with other devices , like Chromebooks or tablets.

How to Unblock Websites with Mobile Data:

  • Open mobile settings.
  • Tap WiFi or network settings.
  • Toggle WiFi off. A 3G, 4G, or 5G symbol should appear at the top of your screen to show you’re using mobile data.
  • Visit the blocked website. Your chosen website or app should now be unblocked.

How to Turn Your Phone Into a WiFi Hotspot:

  • Follow the above steps to turn on mobile data.
  • Turn on your Personal Hotspot. Tap Personal Hotspot and toggle on Allow Others to Join .
  • Set a password. We recommend using a random password generator.
  • Connect to the Personal Hotspot. On your chosen device, navigate to WiFi settings and connect to your new hotspot.
  • Visit the blocked website. You should be able to view the website.

5. Use Smart DNS

Geo-spoofing works to unblock streaming services
Some have a subscription fee
Fast connection speeds Typically have smaller server networks
Works on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Smart TVs & games consoles Doesn’t hide your IP address
Included with some VPNs like ExpressVPN, NordVPN & Surfshark Won’t encrypt your web traffic
Setup can be complicated for beginners

Smart DNS is an effective tool for accessing websites blocked or restricted in your region . It is cheap, compatible with a wide range of devices, and commonly used to unblock streaming services due to its extremely fast connection speeds.

Smart DNS works by rerouting your DNS (Domain Name System) requests through a proxy server in a country of your choosing. It therefore differs from proxy and VPNs, which redirect all of your traffic through the proxy server.

Streaming US Netflix with MediaStreamer

ExpressVPN’s MediaStreamer unblocks US Netflix.

By only rerouting your DNS requests, Smart DNS services are able to achieve much faster speeds than a VPN or a web proxy .

Speed is prioritized over security, however. Unlike Tor or a VPN, a Smart DNS tool will not encrypt your traffic or even hide your IP address.

This lack of encryption means employers, ISPs, and governments can see which websites you visit, and so can still block you. It also means personal IP address bans will still be enforced.

In this sense, we don’t recommend using Smart DNS for bypassing censorship or accessing restricted websites at work .

For unblocking streaming content, however, Smart DNS is often an excellent option. Smart DNS is usually cheaper than a VPN, offers faster connection speeds, and is compatible with a wider range of devices.

Control D is the easiest-to-tuse Smart DNS server we’ve tested. Using it, we can quickly connect to servers that unblock DAZN, Max, BBC iPlayer, and more. It costs just $20.00 per year for existing Windscribe customers.

That said, some of our favorite VPN services, (ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark), offer Smart DNS with their VPN subscription .

How to Unblock Websites with the Smart DNS:

  • Sign up for a Smart DNS service. We recommend MediaStreamer and Control D.
  • Register your IP address . Go to your provider’s website, log in, and provide your real IP address for their allow list.
  • Change your DNS server address. Now you should be able to find the provider’s DNS server addresses. Once found, go to your device’s Network Settings > DNS Settings . Enter your Smart DNS server addresses and click confirm.
  • Restart your device. This will clear your location cache.
  • Open your streaming service . You’ll now have unblocked the streaming service’s country library.

6. Use the Tor Browser

Free Extremely slow speeds
Works to unblock websites in highly-censored countries Not available on iOS devices
Decentralized network maximizes user anonymity Can’t be downloaded on public PCs or work devices
Strong encryption Associated with criminal activity

The Tor browser is a free, open-source web browser that was built to maximize anonymity online. It is available to download on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android devices.

Tor works by encrypting your internet connection and then routing it through three volunteer-run servers or nodes, known as the Tor network. Using Tor ensures that websites cannot see your real IP address or geographic location. Instead, they see your connection as coming from the location of the exit node.

However, Tor is actually not a good solution for everyday browsing . In fact, Tor can actually be quite dangerous , with websites full of obscene material, phishing links, and malware.

It’s also not effective for bypassing geo-restrictions on streaming platforms like Netflix because it randomly selects an exit server, meaning you can’t select an IP address in a specific country. Furthermore, it’s far too slow to support HD streaming, let alone online gaming.

Connected to Windscribe free and the Tor browser, we accessed ProPublica’s onion site.

Connected to Windscribe free and the Tor browser, we accessed ProPublica’s onion site.

Instead, the Tor browser should be used to bypass censorship restrictions imposed at the government-level .

Tor is designed with journalists and whistleblowers from authoritarian countries in mind. Its triple encryption and decentralized network architecture make it much harder for governments and police to track your online activity.

We don’t recommend using Tor if you’re using a work or school-issued device , as Tor is often associated with criminal activity. Just using the service can put you on a police watch list in some countries.

Some workplaces, colleges, and schools actually block users from downloading the Tor browser on the local network. It’s also banned in certain countries, including China and Russia.

How to Unblock Websites with the Tor Browser:

  • Visit the Tor Project’s download page. The Tor browser is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.
  • Select your operating system and download the corresponding file.
  • Set up the Tor Browser. Open the file and set up the Tor Browser. We recommend using the Tor Project’s installation guide .
  • Configure the Tor Browser. Click on C onfigure Connection > Privacy & Security and select Safest Security Level . Never enter full screen mode in the Tor Browser as it can reveal your device details.
  • Connect to Tor. Click on the purple connect button and open your chosen website. We recommend using DuckDuckGo to surf the dark web.

How to Unblock Websites on Different Devices

Unless you can quickly fix the problem by switching to mobile data, the overall best way to unblock a website on almost any device is to use a VPN .

This is certainly the case for devices where native VPN apps are supported, such as on macOS and Windows PCs, iPhone and Android smartphones, and on some streaming devices like the Amazon Firestick. Not only is a VPN the most effective option for these devices, it is also extremely easy to set up and use.

If you want to unblock websites without a VPN, a Smart DNS service like Control D is a great alternative. It’s fast, compatible with desktop, mobile and TVs, and it’s able to unblock streaming services with ease. However, Smart DNS doesn’t hide your real IP address or encrypt your online traffic — leaving your activity exposed to your network admin and ISP.

Smat DNS and proxy browser extensions are good for devices without native VPN support – such as Chromebooks, Roku, games consoles, and smart TVs.

Below is a table summarizing the unblocking method we recommend based on the device:

iPhone & Android Mobile Data, VPN
Chromebook Proxy Browser Extension, Smart DNS
Windows & Mac VPN, Smart DNS
iPad & other tablets VPN
Amazon Firestick VPN
Apple TV VPN, Smart DNS
Other Smart TVs Smart DNS
Roku VPN Router
Xbox & PlayStation VPN Router, Smart DNS

Ultimately, the method to use depends on your own personal preferences . You’ll have to balance efficacy, ease of use, privacy, security, and speed.

Why Are Websites Blocked?

There can be multiple reasons why a website gets blocked on your network.

Some blocks are entirely legitimate, such as preventing children from viewing inappropriate material online. Others are more questionable, such as government-sanctioned online censorship.

Network Administrators at School, College, or Work

Schools and businesses often place restrictions on the internet use of their students and employees. The same is true for parental controls and other restrictions on home WiFi networks.

This type of website block is usually intended to reduce distractions and increase productivity, although they might also be used to protect children and prevent malware.

Typically, blocks at work and school apply to gaming and gambling sites, social media platforms, adult websites, and video streaming services. In theory, they can apply to any website the administrator decides to censor.

These website blocks tend to be implemented in the form of URL-based or IP-based block lists. If you try to access a blacklisted URL or IP address while connected to the local network, your connection times out, and you’re unable to view the page.

Solution : If your network admin is blocking websites using WiFi, use a VPN, web proxy, proxy browser extensions, or mobile data to unblock websites. If you’re using a work laptop or school-issued device, try using a web proxy or proxy browser extension.

Website Owners & Copyright Holders

There are many reasons why a website might choose to prevent you from accessing it, including operational costs and GDPR compliance, but by far the most common is to do with copyright laws and licensing regulations.

Streaming websites such as Netflix, YouTube, and Max (formerly HBO Max) have to block visitors from countries where their content is not licensed, in order to comply with the law.

To do this, these websites use your IP address to determine your physical location and then block you accordingly. This is referred to as a geographic restriction — otherwise known as geo-restrictions.

This is also how some websites impose personal bans on users. Common on video-sharing and gaming websites, personal bans target users who have violated the website’s Terms Of Use in some way.

Solution : If a website or streaming platform is blocking you, a VPN service is the easiest way to bypass these restrictions.

Governments & ISPs

Most governments censor their citizens’ internet usage to some degree. In most countries, this means stopping children from accessing harmful websites, and upholding national law, such as intellectual property rights or gambling regulations.

However, some governments also use internet censorship for political reasons. This can range from controlling the information citizens can access online, to full-scale internet shutdowns during moments of civil unrest and political instability.

These forms of government censorship are most commonly enforced through the country’s internet service providers (ISPs), which are the telecommunication services that connect your device to the internet.

When compelled to do so by law, these ISPs will set up firewalls in their network, which scan your traffic as it passes through. The firewall then blocks your connection if it detects activity that fits a certain description.

Firewalls can be set up to detect particular URLs, IP addresses, port numbers, protocols, and even certain types of website content (using a method known as Deep Packet Inspection ).

Solution : If your ISP is blocking certain websites, use a VPN. It will hide your IP address and encrypt your connection, so your ISP can no longer see the websites you’re visiting. In extreme cases, (e.g. if you’re a political activist or whistleblower) the Tor Browser can be used to unblock websites, but it can be dangerous.

What’s the Best Way to Unblock Websites?

Generally, the best way to unblock websites is to use a VPN. They are the most effective tool for the job, and offer an unparalleled mix of privacy, security, and performance.

With a VPN, you can easily bypass geographic restrictions and access censored websites at school, home and work. The only downside is the cost, but with an average price of $4.00 per month, it’s unlikely to break the bank.

How Do I Unblock Websites without a VPN?

There are multiple ways you can unblock websites without a VPN. You could use a free web proxy or a proxy browser extension.

If you want to unblock a website or app on your phone, you could disconnect from WiFi and use mobile data. If you have enough data and keep an eye on your battery, you could hotspot your mobile data to another device, like a Chromebook.

Is It Legal to Unblock Websites?

In the vast majority of countries, unblocking websites is completely legal. However, keep in mind that you may be breaking school or workplace policy by accessing restricted websites.

Using a VPN to unblock YouTube, Netflix, and other content platforms is also legal — although you could be breaking the service’s Terms of Use.

In some countries, such as China and Russia, VPN use is highly restricted and Tor is banned. We advise researching local laws before using any method to bypass government internet filters.

Unblock websites and protect your network from malware

Proxy server

As an intermediary between your network and the websites you visit, a local proxy server can help improve the throughput of your broadband connection, restore order to a troubled network, and in some cases can help protect your network from malware infections.

What is a proxy?

A 'proxy' means a substitute. To the computers on the local network, a proxy server is another way to connect directly to the web by giving the user a different IP address. There are several different types of proxy servers. For example, a web proxy server keeps copies of recently accessed web pages on your hard disk.

  • These are the best free proxy services and the best free privacy software available

When you navigate to a page, the proxy accesses the cached version if it's up to date. This is faster than downloading static files from the site.

Why people use proxy servers

You may be tempted to disable the proxy settings in your browser to view sites your boss would rather you didn't during work hours. However, to ensure that everyone on the network uses the proxy to access the internet, system administrators often block all access to the internet at their firewall, except traffic coming from or going to the proxy. So to access anything outside the local network, you must use the proxy.

Forcing everyone to use the proxy gives system administrators great control over what their users can access. The same principle can be used at home by parents and those simply keen to bolster security.

If you find unexpected access attempts in a firewall's log file from inside a proxy-protected network, they're probably coming from malware that doesn't know how to test for a local proxy and has tried to go directly online.

Public vs private proxy

While there are many different types of proxies, as we’ve mentioned, they can be sorted into two categories: public proxies and private proxies. As the name suggests, public proxies are free and open to the public, while private proxies are used by only one person.

Because of the influx of users, public proxies are often far less effective than private ones. They’re also more dangerous, as the proxy operator can see your web traffic and potentially hijack your network.

Windows 10 proxy

How to set up a proxy server on Windows

Setting up a proxy on Windows is fairly easy, as newer Windows software automatically detects proxy settings.

To set up a proxy on Windows 10 , simply head to your Settings screen and open the Network and Internet section. From there, click on the Proxy tab and choose from the list of available proxy settings.

For Windows 8 users, the steps are slightly different. Start by opening the PC Settings application and click on the Network Proxy icon. You’ll see a selection of proxy servers to choose from. Enter the proxy’s URL and then save your settings.

If your Windows network can’t automatically detect your proxy, you can set it up manually by entering the proxy’s specific IP address and the port number of the proxy. Your provider should have this information if you’re using a private or business proxy.

(Note you can check a list of common proxies here .)

Mac proxy system preferences

How to set up a proxy server on Mac

Mac users can also take advantage of easy-to-use proxy services. To set up a proxy server on an Apple Mac, start by opening your System Preferences and clicking on the Network icon.

From there, scroll down and click the Advanced button. On the right, click on the Proxy tab. You’ll see a list of different proxy protocols.

Mac proxy

You can check the Auto Proxy Discovery box if you want your Mac to deem whether a proxy is necessary and configure its settings automatically.

To set up a proxy manually, select the type of proxy you want to use and type its corresponding address and port number in the open fields. If the proxy is password-protected, check the Proxy Requires Password box and enter the username and password in the boxes provided.

Once you select a proxy, enter the address and port number in the space provided, click OK and you should be set.

Types of proxy servers

You’ll notice a number of different proxy protocols under your network settings, with each providing a different service. The three most common protocols include:

  • HTTP: The most common type of proxy protocol, it’s mainly used for web browsing. This type of proxy is unsecured, so it’s best to avoid using it for sensitive sites.
  • HTTPS: The secure version of HTTP. Choose this option when you want to send and receive sensitive information like passwords, credit card numbers, etc.
  • SOCKS: A more versatile form of the HTTP protocol, SOCKS can handle more kinds of internet traffic and is often used for torrenting. Due to its popularity, it’s usually much slower than other proxies. It also supports HTTPS.

Using a proxy to unblock websites

Because a proxy reassigns your IP address, you’re able to access content that may not have been available in your geographic area. For example, someone in the US could use a proxy to connect to a network in the UK. Sites and services that are UK-based will then be available to them.

Of course, there’s always the issue of privacy when you’re dealing with proxies. If you want to browse the web anonymously, you may be better off using a VPN.

Proxy vs VPN: Which is better?

When it comes down to privacy, convenience, and ease of use, a VPN always wins. Whereas a proxy only covers the specific web browser you’re using, a VPN encapsulates your entire network.

By connecting to a secure VPN server, you’re able to take on another IP address while encrypting your entire network – giving you more options to browse, stream, and download without having to worry about your network being exposed.

More than that, VPNs are generally easier to use and offer more options when it comes to streaming. Popular paid services like ExpressVPN provide premium encryption protocols and offer secure VPN servers in cities around the world. See the link below for our picks for the best VPN services.

Access Blocked Content

Access Blocked Content

Accessing blocked content through a free web proxy is a common solution for bypassing content restrictions and ensuring online privacy. Free web proxy serve as intermediaries between users and restricted websites, effectively circumventing censorship or regional limitations. By concealing the user's IP address , they grant access to content that might otherwise be unavailable, expanding the reach of information and entertainment.

Anonymity

When users access the internet through a free web proxy, their IP address is masked , making it challenging for websites to identify and track their online activities. This added layer of anonymity is particularly important in an age where data privacy is a growing concern. It enables individuals to browse the web with a reduced risk of being tracked, enhancing their online privacy.

Faster Load Times

Faster Load Times

Faster load times are a critical factor in optimizing the user experience when using a web proxy. Speed is paramount in today's digital landscape, and faster-loading web pages can significantly improve user satisfaction and retention. Web proxies achieve this by utilizing various techniques, such as server caching, data compression, and optimized routing. These strategies reduce the time it takes to retrieve and display web content, ensuring that users can access websites swiftly and efficiently. Whether it's for accessing blocked content or preserving online privacy, a web proxy that prioritizes faster load times enhances the overall browsing experience, making it more seamless and enjoyable for users.

Content Filtering

Content filtering is a crucial aspect of online security and access management. Through content filtering , organizations and individuals can control and regulate the types of content accessible on their networks or devices. This process involves defining specific rules or criteria to either permit or block certain web content categories, such as explicit material or malicious websites. Implementing content filtering solutions not only enhances security by preventing exposure to harmful content but also boosts productivity in a workplace setting by reducing distractions. By leveraging content filtering tools and techniques, users can create a safer and more focused online environment tailored to their needs.

Geolocation Bypass

Geolocation Bypass

Geolocation bypass is a valuable feature provided by web proxies, enabling users to circumvent restrictions based on their physical location. Geolocation restrictions are commonly used to limit access to region-specific content or services. Web proxy mask the user's IP address and route their connection through servers in different geographic locations, effectively tricking websites into believing the user is in a different region. This allows users to access region-restricted content, services, or websites, expanding their online possibilities. Whether it's accessing international streaming libraries or unblocking websites in censored regions, web proxies with geolocation bypass capabilities provide users with greater flexibility and access to a global online landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Web proxy is an intermediary server that acts as a gateway between a user's device and the internet. It forwards user requests to web servers on their behalf, effectively masking the user's IP address.

When a user sends a request to a web proxy, the proxy fetches the content from the target server and then sends it back to the user, providing a degree of anonymity and allowing access to blocked content.

Web proxy offer several advantages, such as enhanced privacy, access to blocked content, and the ability to bypass content filters or geo-restrictions.

Web proxy are commonly used to maintain anonymity, improve online security, and access websites or services that may be restricted in a particular region.

Wproxy.net offer features like caching to improve speed by storing frequently accessed content and reducing the need to fetch it from the original server repeatedly.

Web proxy servers and VPNs both serve as intermediaries between users and websites, but their operation differs. Web proxies receive a user's request, fetch the targeted website's response, and send it back to the user. In contrast, VPNs operate at a system level, routing all types of traffic, including web browsing, music streaming, file sharing, and gaming, through a secure tunnel. This distinction in operation affects their capabilities and usage.

Web proxy are often used for specific tasks like bypassing content restrictions or accessing blocked websites.

Today's NYT Connections Hints and Answer for August 26 (#442)

Why you shouldn't sign in with google or facebook, why public wi-fi is a hacker’s playground (and how to protect yourself), quick links, virtual private networks, shadowsocks, decentralized vpns.

Not everybody has the luxury of accessing any website they want to. It could be that your job's network admin doesn't want you to go to YouTube or even that your government doesn't want you to watch news it doesn't approve of. Whatever the case may be, there are ways to access blocked sites.

Below we'll go over some of the best ways in which you can bypass blocked sites. There's no one way that will work for everybody all the time as all have their pros and cons. However, each has their uses. Let's get started.

The first method is to use a proxy, a lightweight tool, usually operated in a browser window, that reroutes your internet connection and gives you a fake IP address ---called "spoofing." By rerouting your connection, you're fooling the block into letting you through, an effective method that's at the basis of all the methods we'll go over.

However, proxies are pretty limited tools. They're perfect for unblocking YouTube while at school or work, but other than that there's a good chance they won't work. Use them from a country like China that restricts internet activity and you may even get in trouble for using one. Still, if you want to give them a whirl, we like the ones offered by HideMyAss and Hide.me .

A much better option are virtual private networks. To quickly explain how VPNs work , they're much like proxies in that they reroute your connection and spoof your IP, but they're better because they also encrypt your connection, making it much harder to see what you're doing.

VPNs are great for unblocking sites, it doesn't matter if you're trying to get past Chinese internet censorship or simply to watch what another region's streaming services have to offer. Besides cracking blocks, they also offer a decent measure of protection against anybody trying to spy on you, too, so they're a privacy tool, to boot.

However, they come with a big caveat: they cost money, and the best ones like our favorite ExpressVPN will cost a lot. Most free VPNs aren't very good and probably should be avoided, though even the good ones like PrivadoVPN will limit your usage in several ways. As such, if you don't have the money or just don't want to spend it, VPNs are a poor option.

A third option is to use Shadowsocks , a protocol designed to tunnel under the Great Firewall of China but that can also be used as a proxy of sorts. Unlike proxies, Shadowsocks encrypts the connection, but not to the same standard as a VPN. It's meant to unblock and hide traffic, not secure it against attack; you shouldn't use it for torrenting , for example.

If that sounds like what you need, you'll be happy to know that setting up Shadowsocks is easy with an open-source program called Outline. It handles everything for you, including setting up a server and you should be able to crack any block with just 20 minutes of setup. The only thing that costs money is the server, but it's only $5 per month through DigitalOcean .

Our penultimate option may be interesting for anybody that doesn't have money, namely using The Onion Router, or Tor, to get past blocks. Tor rose to prominence as a way to access the dark web and the illicit goods on offer there, but it's actually a very useful way to access blocked sites as it does a fine job of spoofing your IP, on par with VPNs.

When you use Tor , you're bouncing your connection between different so-called nodes, usually run by volunteers, which each have their own IP address. This makes it extremely hard to track you and, because the nodes aren't commercially owned, make your IP seem more "real."

We really like Tor as a way to get past blocks, but the downside is that it's slow, and we mean slow . As such, it's not the best choice for downloading large files or streaming Netflix shows. It's also a little trickier to use and you need to have a bit of know-how to operate it effectively.

Our final pick may be the best of both worlds, a fusion of the ideas behind VPNs and Tor. Called decentralized VPNs, they offer the protocols and security of VPNs with the decentralized nodes of Tor. This should make them the perfect way to break through blocks while staying secure.

However, using a decentralized VPN right now, at least as of 2022, is still a bit iffy. To use one---like Orchid or Mysterium ---you need to sign on to a service, buy cryptocurrency and contend with a lot of obscure technical terms before you can get it to work. Accessibility doesn't seem to be too high on anybody's list right now.

That said, once it does work, it's pretty cool. While there are still some issues, as with any new tech, it could very well be that in a few years dVPNs will be the method of choice for circumventing site blocks.

How-to-Unblock-Websites-Hero

There are several ways to try to get around content blocks online. We’ve compiled a list of 13 ways to bypass blocked websites. If you want to know why sites restrict content or the legality of getting around content blocks, skip down to our sections on why websites get blocked  and  whether it’s legal to unblock them .

1. Unblock websites using a VPN

Using a VPN is one of the easiest and most reliable ways to get around content blocks and unlock the URLs you want. A  VPN (virtual private network)  routes your internet traffic through a remote server, letting you choose your virtual location.

When you connect to a website with a VPN, the website thinks that the virtual location shown by your VPN is your actual location, which means you can unblock content in different global regions. And that’s just one of the benefits of a VPN — VPNs also encrypt your connection, helping to secure the data and personal information like credit card details you enter when shopping online .

Here’s how to unblock websites with a VPN on both desktop and mobile:

First, download and install your VPN — get a free trial of AVG Secure VPN right here:

Downloading and installing AVG Secure VPN.

Now set up your VPN on Windows or get your VPN set up on Mac .

Turn on the VPN and select a server location.

You’re now browsing anonymously and securely from a virtual location!

A VPN is one of the easiest, most comprehensive tools to bypass content blocks. But if you’re using a public computer at a library or need to unblock websites at school, a VPN may not be the best option, because you need to download it.

Some content providers have also started blocking known VPN IP addresses, so your VPN might not work on the sites or services you want to use. When VPN providers realize one of their IPs has been blocked, they usually open new addresses to provide more options.

Highly secure

Encrypts your data and connection

Can unblock websites

Some VPNs are optimized for streaming and bypassing geo-blocking

Good VPNs offer customer support

Not free (most reputable VPNs aren’t free)

Download required

Can be slow — but, there are ways to speed up your VPN connection

As well as being one of the best ways to bypass content blockers, reliable VPNs like AVG Secure VPN offer a wide range of server locations, meaning you can customize your connection to access your favorite sites and services while away from home — all while masking your activity behind a virtual IP address for maximum privacy and anonymity.

2. Unblock websites using Tor

Tor is another option for getting around content blocks and bypassing geo-restrictions. Tor — or The Onion Router — routes your online traffic through many layers of encryption, hence its name. Tor lets you access the web anonymously and get around most content restrictions.

While Tor offers strong online privacy, its downside is slow speeds. That’s because the Tor network and browser are an open-source project maintained by volunteers. Another downside is that you usually can’t install Tor on a school, work, or public computer.

Here’s how to unblock websites using Tor:

Go to the  Tor website and install the Tor browser.

Open Tor and configure it according to your preferences.

Then, connect and enter the URL you want to access.

A screenshot of the Tor browser homepage.

The Tor browser offers a powerful cloak of anonymity, helping users bypass content blocks and explore the uncharted corners of the internet. But it lacks the flexibility of a VPN, is blocked by many content services, and can slow down your browsing speed considerably, meaning it’s not the ideal choice for streaming.

Secure and encrypted

Run by a non-profit, with no data mining

Lets you access the dark web

Works well to unblock many sites

Can’t bypass some specific blocks against Tor nodes, including Netflix

Slow speeds

Requires downloading

No customer service to help configure Tor properly

3. Unblock websites using a web proxy

A  web proxy works well for quickly unblocking content on public computers. And if you need a website unblocker for school — for Chromebooks, say, which run Android apps — and you can’t download a VPN or Tor, then try a web proxy. You’ll connect to a proxy server first, and then on to your desired website — hiding your actual location in the process.

Learning how to unblock websites on a school computer or Chromebook is easy when you use a web proxy. To use a proxy server, go to a proxy website, enter the URL of the actual website you want to visit, and press a button to access it.

The downside is that before visiting the site you want, you need to navigate to the web proxy first — every time, in every tab. It can be a little annoying and generally isn’t great for  streaming content online .

A simplified diagram illustrating how a web proxy works.

And while web proxies are usually free, they don’t provide the same privacy and security protections as a VPN or Tor. But they are easy to access and use. Simply navigate to your web proxy site of choice, enter the site you want to access, select your server, and go.

Can bypass basic content blocks

May break some website functionality

Doesn’t safeguard private personal data

Not optimized for speed

Not guaranteed to unblock all sites

You have to open the web proxy every time you visit a new site

4. Unblock websites using a browser extension

A proxy  extension  is like a more convenient web proxy, and it’ll get you around content blocks on a school computer very quickly. A proxy extension sits right in your browser, so you won’t waste time constantly navigating to the proxy — it’s ready whenever you want to access blocked content.

Proxy extensions in the Chrome Web Store are vetted by Google for security

Usually encrypt your browser connection

Can choose your server location

Usually free

Won’t disrupt any of your other Chrome security extensions

Requires installation on your computer

May show ads

May not be optimized for streaming content

If you can’t download a VPN or Tor (maybe your school or business forbids it), don’t want to use a proxy, but still need to unblock something quickly, there are some other quick methods to access blocked websites that could work.

The following methods for unblocking sites may not be as reliable or user-friendly as the options outlined above, but they can be effective site unblockers in a pinch.

5. Use a URL shortener

If your school or work network is using a very basic blocking method, using a URL shortener might help. Services like TinyURL shorten a website’s URL, which will help you unblock websites without  a proxy, VPN, or Tor . For example, if your school blocks Facebook but you need to use the social network for research or some other academic reason, creating a different (shortened) URL may help you access it.

Here’s how it works:

Go to a URL shortening site like is.gd , TinyURL , or Bitly .

Enter the website you want to unblock into the URL field, then click the button to shorten it.

Copy your new, shorter URL and paste it into your computer browser.

A screenshot of the is.gd URL shortener for bypassing website blockers.

If the alternative URL bypasses the content blocker’s filters, you'll be able to get to the site you want.

No downloading required

Quick and easy

May or may not work to unblock sites

No security

6. Try switching protocols

A graphic illustrating HTTPS to HTTP protocol switching.

But it’s important to note that HTTP is an unsecured protocol and should be avoided whenever possible . And never enter any personal information or passwords into a site using just HTTP, because of potential   security vulnerabilities that can be exploited .

No security; HTTP protocol is unsecured

If all else fails, protocol switching may be worth a try. But as well as leaving you exposed to man-in-the-middle attacks , you can’t use it to access sites or content that are geo-blocked in your location.

Use AVG Secure VPN to help unlock URLs, encrypt your connection, and switch your virtual location.

7. Use web archive

If you encounter restrictions accessing a live website, a potential workaround is to access the blocked content by visiting the Wayback Machine , an internet archive that stores copies of countless web pages. Just input the blocked URL into the archive's search bar and click "Browse History." Unless the Wayback Machine itself is blocked, you may discover an archived version of the content you're seeking.

The internet archive search bar on Wayback Machine.

Using an internet archive is a nifty way to access restricted content — even on school or work computers that won’t let you access proxies or download software. But of course, it has its limitations. The archived material may not be up to date, and you won’t be able to bypass geo-blocking or access streaming services.

May or may not work for all blocked content

May display outdated content

8. Use Google translate

Another Google-based workaround is to use Google Translate to unblock websites. This method for accessing restricted sites might not show the page you want to view perfectly, but it may be enough to let you read the content you’re looking for.

Here’s how to use Google Translate to unblock websites:

Go to  Google Translate.

Choose any language for the from field and English for the to field.

Paste your desired website or URL into the box.

Copying a URL into Google Translate to bypass a website restriction.

Click the link.

You may now be able to view it as an unblocked website.

Be aware that some elements on the page may break.

Accessing a blocked website by running the URL through Google Translate.

In this method, Google Translate accesses the website on your behalf and presents you with a cloned image of the site on its own URL. The advantage of this technique over some others is that Google Translate itself is unlikely to be restricted, and it’s possible to interact directly with the website clone — albeit with limited functionality.

May or may not work as a true website unblocker

9. Use a dynamic IP address

Some websites block connections from certain groups of IP addresses due to spam or cybercrime concerns. If that includes your IP address , you won't be able to visit that website. A dynamic IP address — one that changes with each use — will let you bypass this restriction. It’s the same trick phone spoofers use to keep calling you from different phone numbers.

Most ISPs use dynamic IP addresses, so simply restarting your router may get you a new one. Otherwise, connecting to a VPN or proxy server is the easiest way to get a dynamic IP address.

Increases your online privacy

If done manually, it’s free

May require a subscription

Can involve some technical know-how

If you’re on Windows, you can also use Command Prompt to change your IP. Open Command Prompt by simultaneously pressing the Win + R keys, then type cmd  and click OK . In the window that opens, type ipconfig /release (including spaces) and press Enter . Then type ipconfig /renew (including spaces) and press Enter , then close Command Prompt.

10. Use Safari Configurations

For Mac users, configuring a proxy directly within Safari is another option worth considering. While it requires slightly more effort during the initial setup compared to using browser plug-ins or extensions, it avoids the need to manually connect via a proxy service whenever you wish to unblock a specific website.

Here’s how to configure Safari proxy settings:

Launch Safari.

Open the Safari menu and select Preferences .

Navigate to the Advanced tab.

Click the Change Settings button.

Changing settings in the Safari browser Advanced Preferences menu.

Look at the proxy protocol options.

Ensure that the right proxy is selected.

Add the proxy service endpoint address.

Finally, click OK followed by Apply .

Selecting a desired proxy protocol in the Safari menu.

Although configuring a proxy server directly through your Safari browser settings has some advantages over using a web proxy , their fundamental plusses and minuses as website unblockers are mostly the same. But avoiding the need to manually connect via a web proxy service isn’t just convenient — it bypasses access restrictions to web proxy sites themselves.

If you’re looking for an effective, reliable, and easy-to-set-up method to help unblock website restrictions, look no further than AVG Secure VPN . As well as securing your connection with ironclad encryption and masking your internet activity, it comes with over 50 global server locations to choose from, helping you optimize download speeds and access your favorite content.

11. Use an HTML to PDF converter

If you just want to read the contents of a particular webpage, and you don’t need to visit the actual site, you can use a PDF converter to convert the HTML source code into a readable PDF.

HTML to PDF converter tools change the contents of any URL into a PDF document, including the text and pictures on the site. Then, you can either preview the PDF online, download it to read it later, or print it.

Free and easy

No installation needed

12. Use a private browser

Another effective way to try to unblock sites and view blocked content is to use a web browser built for privacy and security . Not only will a private browser help prevent unwanted tracking while you browse, but it can also help you access blocked websites.

One such browser is AVG Secure Browser , which includes built-in access to AVG Secure VPN — together, they can help you bypass website access restrictions, while also encrypting your connection and concealing your online activity.

To start accessing blocked websites:

Download and install AVG Secure Browser .

Open AVG Secure Browser.

Click the green shield in the top-right corner.

Open the Security & Privacy Center .

A screenshot of the AVG Secure Browser Security & Privacy Center.

From there, you can activate multiple privacy features — including AVG Secure VPN — to help hide your presence from blocked websites and access restricted content.

Easy access to a built-in VPN with a kill switch

Helps stop phishing attacks and online trackers

Includes a built-in private browsing mode for extra privacy

Includes a customizable, easy-to-use adblocker

Requires extra installs to access all premium features

Requires browser installation

Using a top-rated private browser like AVG Secure Browser isn’t just a great way to access additional built-in features like a VPN. Built from the ground up with privacy and security in mind, its advanced suite of anti-tracking and fingerprinting technology helps you hide your identity and bypass bans and blocks — all while enjoying a seamless browsing experience.

13. Change your DNS server

Changing your Domain Name System (DNS) server — either manually or via a smart DNS proxy server — also helps you access geo-blocked content, by tricking a website into thinking you’re in a different location.

You can change your DNS server on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS (iPhone or iPad). Or, you can change the DNS server within your browser or via your router. The biggest difference between a smart DNS proxy and a VPN is that your IP address is still visible if you use a smart DNS proxy alone.

What’s the best way to unblock websites?

Now let’s review the main website unblocker methods described above and get a snapshot overview by rating them across a variety of factors including ease of use, speed, security, and more.

Green dots mean the method scores highly in that category, while orange dots mean it’s less optimal, and a red dot indicates low performance or complete absence of a feature.

As you can see, although each method has its drawbacks, VPNs score highest overall, especially in the categories that are critical for effective website unblocking. But if you need a no-download option to use on a public device, a web proxy service is probably your best bet.

An illustration of the various strengths, weaknesses, and features of different methods for unblocking websites.

Why do websites get blocked?

Websites get blocked when they detect an IP address that isn’t supposed to access the restricted content. Your IP address identifies your device on the internet and reveals your physical location. That’s what lets websites find your IP and block (or allow) your device.

If you use a VPN, it’s easy to hide your IP address so that it appears you’re coming from a different physical location, which can let you access blocked websites. But websites can also detect data stored in browser cookies . And if you’re trying to access a subscription site or paywalled content, the page will be blocked unless the site can verify that you’re logged in and have a subscription.

Geo-restricted content

Geo-blocking is common for streaming services — such as Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify — that have licensing agreements for the content they provide. Those agreements specify the films and TV shows they can deliver in each region they serve. That’s why many people traveling abroad use VPNs to unblock content that’s available in their home country.

A graphic illustration showing that website access can be blocked in different countries.

School and work restrictions

It’s obvious why your school or workplace might not want you to access certain things such as adult content or unsafe websites . But if they’re preventing you from streaming music or accessing news sites, it’s probably because they’re worried about productivity and bandwidth consumption.

Some countries censor online content within their borders because of cultural, religious, or political concerns — in other words, to limit the flow of information. China, with its Great Firewall , is probably the most notorious example, blocking lots of sites like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). When countries censor the open web, their citizens often find ways to unblock banned websites.

A graphic illustration showing that state censorship is a common reason for blocked websites.

Internet service providers (ISPs) typically block websites for legitimate reasons — URLs known to contain or traffic illegal or pirated content are often blocked by most ISPs. If you live in a country with strict censorship laws, ISPs may be required to block websites according to local regulations too.

A graphic illustration showing that ISPs themselves may not allow access to certain sites.

Is it legal to unblock websites?

The legality of unblocking websites varies depending on location. Many countries (even China, to some degree) allow VPNs. For more details about specific countries, research what local laws say about VPNs. If you’re torrenting copyrighted media, that’s almost always illegal, whether you’re using a VPN or not.

Bypassing content restrictions to access specific shows on platforms like HBO Max or Netflix isn’t illegal — but it may be against their terms of use. Likewise, unblocking legitimate websites on an institutional device won’t get you in any trouble with the law, but could land you in hot water with your school or employer.

Will any of these methods allow me to access blocked websites at school?

Yes, some of the above methods to unblock websites will work at school. But due to restrictions imposed by the network administrator, it’s likely that you won’t be able to download a VPN or Tor. That means a proxy or one of the quick methods outlined above will be your best bet if you need to unblock sites and access materials for a school project.

How about unblocking sites at work?

If you have a fixed workstation or can download any software you want on a laptop, a VPN is perhaps your best option to unblock websites at work. If that’s not the case — if you have a hot-desking setup or your employer restricts what you can download on your laptop — then neither a VPN nor Tor will work. At that point, a web proxy or browser proxy is likely your best option.

The easiest way to access blocked sites on any device

Is there a free vpn.

It’s possible to get free VPNs, but their features won’t be as comprehensive as premium products. And unreputable VPNs might even monetize your browsing activity by selling it to data brokers or other third parties. You can try AVG Secure VPN for free with a 7-day trial.

Can I unblock websites on my phone, too?

Yes, you can unblock websites on your iPhone or Android using the most common methods for unblocking websites on a computer. But, fiddling around with a web proxy or Tor might not work well due to decreased speeds.

Setting up a VPN on mobile is one of the best ways to unblock sites on your phone. VPNs are easy to set up, easy to use, and protect you on unsecured Wi-Fi networks. Whether you use Android or iOS , AVG has you covered with a top-of-the-line mobile VPN app. Give it a try today.

How can I unblock a website on Chrome?

Here’s how to unblock sites on Chrome: Open Settings and change or reset permissions while you’re on the website you want to visit — this will help you get around content blocks on Chrome immediately. Tor is a separate browser, but it also has an extension for Chrome . Both VPNs and web proxies work well on Chrome too.

How do I unblock a website without a VPN?

It is possible to unblock websites using alternative methods such as the Tor browser or proxies, but there are downsides to both. Using a VPN not only helps you access restricted content, but it also encrypts your data for airtight privacy and security.

How do I unblock sites on my laptop?

A VPN is among the best and most convenient tools for unblocking websites on a laptop. As well as helping you quickly and easily watch TV online and bypass other content blocks, you’ll also enjoy other benefits of a VPN, such as a choice of optimized server locations and encryption to help block your activity from being tracked .

How do I unblock websites on a Chromebook?

You can unblock websites on a Chromebook with a VPN, as long as the VPN has an Android-supported app. If you need a website unblocker to conduct research on a school Chromebook, try a web proxy server — though you may have to search for one that the IT department hasn’t restricted yet.

Introduction

Are you tired of encountering the frustrating message "This website is blocked" when trying to access your favorite websites at school? Many educational institutions impose strict restrictions on internet usage, preventing students from visiting certain websites deemed inappropriate or distracting. While these restrictions serve a valid purpose in maintaining a focused learning environment, they can also hinder access to valuable resources and entertainment during free time.

Fortunately, there are ways to bypass these restrictions and unblock websites on the Chrome browser , providing students with the freedom to access the content they need and enjoy. In this article, we will explore various methods to unblock websites at school specifically on the Chrome browser. Whether you're looking to access educational resources, social media platforms, or entertainment websites, these techniques will empower you to navigate the digital landscape more freely within the confines of your school's internet restrictions.

By understanding the underlying reasons for website restrictions and exploring effective solutions, you can gain valuable insights into navigating internet limitations while maintaining a respectful and responsible approach to online activities. Let's delve into the strategies that can help you reclaim access to the websites you need and want to visit, even within the confines of your school's internet policies.

Understanding School Website Restrictions

Schools often implement website restrictions to maintain a secure and focused learning environment for students. These restrictions are designed to prevent access to websites that may be deemed inappropriate, distracting, or potentially harmful. Commonly blocked websites include social media platforms, online gaming sites , and certain entertainment portals. By limiting access to these websites, educational institutions aim to minimize distractions and safeguard students from exposure to unsuitable content during school hours.

The rationale behind these restrictions is rooted in the school's duty to provide a conducive learning environment while ensuring the safety and well-being of students. By controlling internet access, schools can mitigate the risks associated with unrestricted browsing, such as exposure to explicit content, cyberbullying, or online predators. Additionally, restricting access to non-educational websites encourages students to focus on academic tasks and discourages excessive non-academic internet usage during school hours.

While the intention behind these restrictions is to foster a productive and secure learning environment, they can also pose challenges for students who require access to specific websites for educational purposes or those seeking harmless recreational activities during designated break times. As such, it becomes essential for students to explore legitimate methods to bypass these restrictions without compromising the school's internet policies or the integrity of the learning environment.

Understanding the reasons behind school website restrictions can help students approach the issue with a balanced perspective. By acknowledging the school's responsibility to maintain a safe and focused learning environment, students can seek alternative methods to access necessary resources and entertainment without undermining the school's policies. This understanding forms the foundation for exploring effective and responsible ways to unblock websites on the Chrome browser within the school environment.

By recognizing the rationale behind website restrictions, students can navigate the process of unblocking websites with a sense of respect for the school's guidelines and a commitment to responsible internet usage. This awareness sets the stage for exploring the practical methods that enable students to access valuable online content while upholding the principles of digital responsibility within the school setting.

Using Proxy Websites

When faced with website restrictions at school, utilizing proxy websites can be a viable solution to bypass these limitations and gain access to blocked content. Proxy websites act as intermediaries between the user and the restricted website, effectively masking the user's IP address and allowing them to circumvent the school's internet filters.

To use a proxy website, students can simply navigate to the proxy site's URL and enter the desired website's address into the provided search bar. Upon submission, the proxy server fetches the requested website and relays the content back to the user, effectively bypassing the school's restrictions. This process enables students to access blocked websites while appearing to be connected to the proxy server rather than the restricted site, thus evading the school's website filters.

It is important to note that while proxy websites offer a straightforward method to unblock content, they may come with certain drawbacks. Some proxy sites may be unreliable or slow, leading to a subpar browsing experience. Additionally, the use of proxy websites may raise security concerns, as the user's data could potentially be intercepted or compromised by the proxy server.

Despite these potential drawbacks, proxy websites remain a popular choice for students seeking to bypass website restrictions at school. By leveraging proxy servers, students can access educational resources, social media platforms, and entertainment websites that are otherwise inaccessible within the school's network.

It is essential for students to exercise caution and discretion when using proxy websites, ensuring that they prioritize their online security and privacy. Additionally, students should be mindful of the school's acceptable use policies and adhere to responsible internet usage practices while utilizing proxy servers to unblock websites on the Chrome browser.

In summary, proxy websites offer a practical and accessible means for students to circumvent website restrictions at school and access blocked content. By understanding the functionality and potential limitations of proxy servers, students can make informed decisions regarding their use, enabling them to navigate the school's internet restrictions while upholding principles of digital responsibility.

Using VPN Services

When confronted with website restrictions at school, employing Virtual Private Network (VPN) services can serve as an effective method to bypass these limitations and gain unrestricted access to blocked content. A VPN creates a secure and encrypted connection between the user's device and the VPN server, effectively masking the user's IP address and encrypting their internet traffic. This encryption ensures that the user's online activities, including website visits, remain private and inaccessible to third parties, including the school's network filters.

To utilize a VPN service , students can install a reputable VPN application on their devices, such as laptops, tablets, or smartphones, and connect to a VPN server of their choice. Once connected, the VPN establishes a secure tunnel through which the user's internet traffic is routed, effectively bypassing the school's website restrictions. By connecting to a VPN server located outside the school's network, students can access blocked websites without being subject to the school's internet filters.

It is important to note that while VPN services offer a reliable and secure method to unblock websites, students should exercise caution in selecting a reputable VPN provider. Opting for well-established VPN services with strong privacy policies and robust encryption protocols can help safeguard the user's online privacy and security. Additionally, students should be mindful of any applicable laws or regulations regarding VPN usage within their school environment.

Furthermore, VPN services provide additional benefits beyond unblocking websites, including enhanced online privacy, protection against potential cyber threats, and the ability to access geo-restricted content. By encrypting their internet traffic, students can mitigate the risks associated with unsecured public Wi-Fi networks and protect their sensitive data from unauthorized access.

In summary, VPN services offer a reliable and secure means for students to bypass website restrictions at school and access blocked content on the Chrome browser. By understanding the functionality and benefits of VPNs, students can make informed decisions regarding their usage, enabling them to navigate the school's internet restrictions while prioritizing their online privacy and security.

Using Chrome Extensions

Chrome extensions provide a convenient and user-friendly approach to unblocking websites at school on the Chrome browser. These extensions are specially designed to enhance the functionality of the browser, offering a diverse range of features including website unblocking, privacy protection, and content customization.

One of the key advantages of using Chrome extensions to unblock websites at school is the seamless integration with the browser interface. Students can easily browse the Chrome Web Store to discover a variety of extensions tailored to bypassing website restrictions. These extensions often come with intuitive interfaces and straightforward installation processes, making them accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise.

When selecting Chrome extensions for unblocking websites, students can explore options that specifically cater to bypassing internet filters and accessing restricted content. Popular extensions in this category may include VPN extensions, proxy extensions, or specialized unblockers designed to circumvent website restrictions. By installing these extensions, students can effectively bypass the school's internet filters and access blocked websites directly through the Chrome browser.

Furthermore, Chrome extensions offer additional functionalities beyond website unblocking, such as ad-blocking, malware protection, and privacy enhancements. This multifaceted approach allows students to not only unblock websites but also safeguard their online activities and personalize their browsing experience according to their preferences.

It is important for students to exercise caution when selecting and installing Chrome extensions, ensuring that they opt for reputable and well-reviewed extensions from trusted developers. By prioritizing extensions with positive user feedback and a demonstrated commitment to user privacy and security, students can mitigate the risks associated with potentially unreliable or malicious extensions.

Additionally, students should be mindful of the school's acceptable use policies and adhere to responsible internet usage practices when utilizing Chrome extensions to unblock websites. Respecting the school's guidelines while leveraging these tools demonstrates a conscientious approach to navigating website restrictions and upholding digital responsibility within the school environment.

In summary, Chrome extensions offer a user-friendly and versatile solution for students seeking to unblock websites at school on the Chrome browser. By exploring reputable extensions tailored to bypassing website restrictions and prioritizing user privacy and security, students can effectively navigate internet limitations while enhancing their browsing experience within the school's network.

In conclusion, navigating website restrictions at school while using the Chrome browser can be a challenging yet surmountable endeavor for students. The implementation of website restrictions by educational institutions serves a valid purpose in maintaining a secure and focused learning environment. However, these restrictions can inadvertently hinder access to valuable resources and harmless recreational content, prompting students to seek alternative methods to unblock websites without compromising the integrity of the school's internet policies.

By exploring the methods outlined in this article, students can gain valuable insights into navigating website restrictions responsibly and effectively. Proxy websites offer a straightforward means to bypass restrictions, allowing students to access blocked content by leveraging intermediary servers. While proxy websites provide accessibility, students should exercise caution to ensure their online security and privacy.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) services present a robust and secure approach to bypassing website restrictions, offering encrypted connections that shield users' online activities from network filters. By connecting to VPN servers, students can access blocked websites while prioritizing their online privacy and security. Selecting reputable VPN providers is crucial to ensuring a reliable and secure browsing experience.

Chrome extensions emerge as a user-friendly and versatile solution for unblocking websites on the Chrome browser. These extensions not only facilitate website unblocking but also offer additional functionalities such as ad-blocking and privacy enhancements. Students should carefully select and install reputable extensions to mitigate potential security risks and uphold responsible internet usage practices.

In navigating website restrictions at school, it is essential for students to approach the process with a sense of respect for the school's guidelines and a commitment to digital responsibility. By understanding the rationale behind website restrictions and exploring legitimate methods to bypass these limitations, students can reclaim access to valuable online content while upholding the principles of responsible internet usage within the school environment.

Ultimately, the methods discussed in this article empower students to navigate website restrictions at school while using the Chrome browser, enabling them to access necessary resources and harmless recreational content within the confines of the school's internet policies. By approaching website unblocking with a balanced perspective and a commitment to digital responsibility, students can effectively navigate internet limitations while fostering a respectful and secure learning environment.
