Screenwriting practice is now a flourishing mode of research within universities internationally, whereby the act of writing a screenplay or developing screenplay works is not only understood but also celebrated as a legitimate form of knowledge discovery and dissemination. The resulting work of this creative practice research, which we might call the ‘academic screenplay’, thus functions simultaneously as a method of research enquiry and a ‘non-traditional’ research artefact. In this chapter, we explore what it means to develop and write a screenplay in the academy, under the conditions of and for research. By positioning screenwriting alongside and in between the disciplines of creative writing and screen production, we reflect on how it can draw from both disciplines at different times and for different purposes and can be influenced by their specific—and sometimes contradictory—discourses. By doing so, the chapter provides a comprehensive overview of screenwriting as a growing mode of research, and its practice as an important addition to the academy.

Traditional approaches in Multimedia systems force the user to segment video material into simple descriptions, which usually include endpoints and a brief text description in the form of keywords. We propose to segment contextual information into chunks rather than segmenting contiguous frames. The computer can help us organize sets of descriptions that are related to the recorded moving image: it can help us remember what we have shot. Such descriptions can overlap, be contained in, and even encompass a multitude of other descriptions. Parsing moving image sequences is reduced to simply parsing the contextual information which forms the description. Our approach, Stratification, also has important ramifications in terms of an elastic representation of moving images. Ambient sound can provide us with important contextual clues as to what is going on within the frames. Using audio to find patterns of content is an important step towards the eventual automatization of the logging pro...

Abstract A continuity script describes very carefully the content of a movie shot by shot. This paper introduces a framework for extracting structural units such as shots, scenes, actions and dialogs from the script, and aligning them to the movie based on the longest matching subsequence between them. We present experimental results and applications of the framework with a full-length movie and discuss its applicability to large-scale film repositories.

The paper presents a theoretical and analytical examination of tolerance and ethics within ethnoreligious citizenship groundwork, aiming to objectifies intolerance to irreligion within a religious-national identity synergically paradigm. It aims to present the role that religion plays in determining the national identity of the peoples of the Balkans, pointing out that religious institutions and clerical politics occupy more and more public space, together with the unification of national and religious identity, challenge those who identify irreligiously. The liberating human potential of cultural value decreased and reduced to the conservative revolution’s identity basis and ideological instrument. In the post-communist period, the return to the past implied a contest for the symbols, ethnoreligious values, and dormant concepts. Moreover, post-war ethnic homogeneous entities and ethnoreligious identities lack diversity and alternative contemporary citizenship worldviews. The Balkan radical primordialism systematically turned to the past, sought to complete the retraditionalization and clericalization of societies created by the disintegration of Yugoslavia. True tolerance is possible only towards those who recognize the right of free thought and action as a universal right of all community members. Self-initiative and freedom of civil society are the actual content of any democratic order. Civil society should possess a socio-psychological pluralism and a level of comprehension and sympathy for others. The experience of the Balkans is not dissimilar to other countries where a specific religiosity is given an all-embracing socio-cultural-political authority that effectively circumscribes human behavior.

Stress testing is one of the effective and popular ways to alert bank management with regard to adverse unexpected outcomes related to variety of risks and provides an indication how much capital adequacy ratio (CAR) might be needed to absorb losses if any large shocks occur. In this paper, Sonali Bank Limited is considered, operates in Bangladesh based on BB rules. Besides that, several indicators for conducted stress testing of non-performing loan (NPL), non-performing loan in two major sectors, equity price risk, liquidity shocks and Interest rate shocks. This study has been used the data for the years of 2013 and 2014 taken from the annual report of SBL. Finally, this study has some interesting implications that might help the senior management, policy makers, depositors, owners as well as stakeholders of the bank.

This paper analyses the glass vessels and mosaic beads with face masks from sites of the Sântana de Mureş-Chernyakhov culture in Eastern Romania, i. e. Vaslui County. 84 glass vessels of different types are listed in the database (developed according to the project Corpus der römischen Funde im europäischen Barbaricum), dating from the end of the 3rd to the beginning of the 5th century AD (especially the Kowalk and conical faceted beakers). In the cemetery of Bârlad-Valea Seacă was found the largest number of glass vessels (50 %). Only by continuing with such complete catalogues for all the neighbouring regions we can get an overview of the socio-economic relations, the technologies and the area’s trade.
