Finding license free photos on the internet can be difficult. Many good pictures are not free or not usable for commercial purposes – looking for good ones that are free to use can get exhausting. Therefore, we decided to show you our 5 favourite websites for free images that you can use for PowerPoint presentations (or for anything else).

1. Unsplash

Unsplash is an amazing resource for high-quality images, which can be used for private or commercial purposes and can even be modified. Pictures are distributed by photographers all around the world. Even though crediting isn’t required, it is very much appreciated and a way for the artist to gain more prominence.

The Pexels-License is simple – you can edit photos as you like and use them for all purposes. Crediting is not required. We adore this resource for its huge variety of categories and professionally shot images.

3. Freerange

Freerange images are distributed by their “in-house”-photographers or by the community. Just like the previously mentioned ones, it is free for non-commercial as well as commercial use – attribution not necessary. You can find all kinds of content in the photos, and the amount grows every day.

CC is a giant network that was built to provide content that is free to use. They provide public licenses and a feature for searching pictures – where you can choose if you want something for commercial purposes, something that can be modified, or both.

In France, Team USA earned two wrestling golds — one less than Tokyo — while its total medal total dropped from nine to seven. Paris 2024 marked the first time the U.S. left a Games without a men's freestyle gold in 56 years, dating back to Mexico City 1968. 

But the pair of American golds, won by 20-year-old Amit Elor in 68kg and 30-year-old Sarah Hildebrandt in 50kg, represent perhaps the country's most compelling Olympic wrestling storyline: The U.S. women's wrestling team continues to fire on all cylinders.

Japan earns eight of the 18 contested golds

In the overall medal count, Japan placed third at these Games with 20 gold medals overall. A whopping eight of those came from wrestling.

To put that into perspective: Japanese athletes topped 44.44% of all contested wrestling events in Paris.

From Blades to Hildebrandt, Team USA's women shine

There were 18 wrestling events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Of those, 12 involved men competing against other men. Yet half of Japan's wrestling golds resulted from women topping the podium. 

The United States reached four wrestling finals at these Games: women's 50kg, 68kg, 76kg, and men's 57kg.

California's Amir Elot won 68kg gold, the first contested final against Kyrgyzstan's Meerim Zhumanazarova , on Aug. 6. The following evening, Indiana's Sarah Hildebrandt defeated Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman to make the U.S. 2-for-2.

No two American women had won wrestling gold at a single Olympics before Paris. 

Twenty-year-old Kennedy Blades of Illinois had the opportunity to extend that record to three golds — but lost a tight gold medal match, 3-1, for silver. 

The fourth American woman to earn a wrestling medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics was none other than Helen Maroulis , who became the first-ever American to win a gold medal in women's freestyle wrestling at the Olympics at the Rio 2016 Games. She earned bronze in Paris competing in the 57kg weight class.

U.S. men leave Paris without freestyle or Greco-Roman gold

On the flip side of the coin, U.S. men failed to win an Olympic freestyle wrestling for the first time in more than half a century.

The closest to a gold run: Pennsylvania's 25-year-old Spencer Lee , who — like Blades — fell to a powerhouse Japanese wrestler, 28-year-old Rei Higuchi . 

Legendary Lopez wins fifth gold, leaves shoes on the mat

Cuba's Mijain Lopez won his first Olympic gold in men's super heavyweight wrestling at Beijing 2008. 

Mijain won the event at each Games since: London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024. 

He's the only athlete to win five-straight golds in a single individual event. 

After securing his latest Olympic medal, Mijain removed his shoes and left them on the Parisian mat, signifying retirement. They'll be impossible shoes to fill.

Why Republicans are calling Walz 'Tampon Tim' — and why Democrats embrace it

Republican critics of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz have given him a new nickname: “Tampon Tim.”

After Vice President Harris announced her pick , Stephen Miller, a former adviser to former President Donald Trump, tweeted , “She actually chose Tampon Tim.” Chaya Raichik, who runs the far-right social media account Libs of TikTok, photoshopped Walz’s face onto a Tampax box.

“Tampon Tim is hands down the best political nickname ever,” tweeted conservative commentator Liz Wheeler. “It’s so… savagely effective. In one word tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about Tim Walz’s dangerous radicalism.”

The moniker refers to a law that Walz, the governor of Minnesota, signed last year, requiring public schools to provide menstrual products — including pads and tampons — to students in 4th through 12th grades.

The products are free for students, with the state paying about $2 per pupil to keep them stocked throughout the school year.

Takeaways from Tim Walz's introduction to the national stage

The law, which was the result of years of advocacy by students and their allies, took effect on Jan. 1, though students say the rollout has so far been smoother in some school districts than others .

It makes Minnesota one of 28 states (and Washington D.C.) that have passed laws aimed at giving students access to menstrual products in schools, according to the Alliance for Period Supplies.

The issue enjoys broad popular support: 30 states have eliminated state sales tax on menstrual products, and Trump himself signed a 2018 package that requires federal prisons to provide them.

But Republicans appear to be taking issue with the wording of the legislation, which says the products must be available “to all menstruating students in restrooms regularly used by students.”

Some Minnesota Republicans initially tried to limit the initiative to female-assigned and gender-neutral bathrooms, but were unsuccessful. Even the author of that amendment ultimately voted for the final version of the bill, saying his family members “felt like it was an important issue I should support.”

The bill’s inclusive language reflects that not all people who menstruate are women, and not all women get periods, which was important to those who lobbied for the legislation.

“It will make it more comfortable for everyone … then people can use whatever restroom they want without being worried,” Bramwell Lundquist, then 15, told MPR News last year.

But some in the Republican Party — which has increasingly promoted anti-transgender policies and rhetoric — see that aspect of the bill as a reason to attack Walz.

“Tim Walz is a weird radical liberal,” the MAGA War Room account posted on X, formerly Twitter. “What could be weirder than signing a bill requiring schools to stock tampons in boys' bathrooms?”

'Midwestern Nice' and 'Fun Dad' posts abound after Tim Walz is named VP pick

Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt made a similar argument in a Tuesday appearance on Fox News .

“As a woman, I think there is no greater threat to our health than leaders who support gender-transition surgeries for young minors, who support putting tampons in men’s bathrooms in public schools,” she said. “Those are radical policies that Tim Walz supports. He actually signed a bill to do that.”

LGBTQ rights groups have cheered Walz’s selection and praised his track record, which includes a 2023 executive order making Minnesota one of the first states to safeguard access to gender-affirming health care, as dozens of states seek to ban it .

Walz, who once earned the title “ most inspiring teacher ” at the high school where he taught and coached football, hasn’t responded publicly to the “Tampon Tim” taunts. But he had strong words for his Republican opponents on Tuesday night.

“I'll just say it: Donald Trump and JD Vance are creepy and, yes, weird,” he tweeted , repeating the put-down he helped popularize in recent days. “We are not going back.”

Many on the left see “Tampon Tim” as a compliment

Democratic Minnesota Rep. Sandra Feist, the chief sponsor of the bill in the state House, sold it as a "wise investment" , explaining to her colleagues last year that “one out of every 10 menstruating youth miss school” due to a lack of access to menstrual products and resources.

She defended it again in a tweet on Wednesday morning, saying she was grateful to have partnered with Walz to address period poverty .

“This law exemplifies what we can accomplish when we listen to students to address their needs,” she wrote. “Excited to see MN representation at the top of the ticket!”

Feist ended the tweet with the hashtag #TamponTim.

Other Democratic figures have embraced both the hashtag and the policy behind it.

The case for free tampons and pads in schools

Many social media users responded that providing tampons in schools isn’t the bad thing that Republicans are making it out to be — and in fact, they see it as the opposite.

Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said it was “nice of the Trump camp to help publicize Gov. Tim Walz’s compassionate and common-sense policy,” adding, “Let’s do this everywhere.”

Former Georgia State Rep. Bee Nguyen said Walz, as a former teacher, understands how the lack of access to menstrual products impacts educational outcomes.

“This makes me an even bigger fan of Tampon Tim,” she added.

Nearly 1 in 4 students have struggled to afford period products in the United States, according to a 2023 study commissioned by Thinx and PERIOD. Experts say period poverty is more than just a hassle : It’s an issue of public and personal health, dignity and more.

The Minnesota students who lobbied for the bill testified last year about having to miss class because they were unable to afford menstrual products, being distracted from schoolwork and tests and feeling that adults didn’t take their concern seriously.

“We cannot learn while we are leaking,” high school student Elif Ozturk, then 16, told a legislative hearing in 2023. “How do we expect our students to carry this burden with them during the school day and still perform well? The number one priority should be to learn, not to find a pad.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris promised Saturday to work to eliminate taxes on tips paid to restaurant and other service industry employees, echoing a pledge that her opponent, Republican Donald Trump, has made, and marking a rare instance of political overlap from both sides.

Harris made the announcement at a rally on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where the economy relies heavily on the hotel, restaurant and entertainment industries. Trump vowed essentially the same thing at his own rally in the city in June — though neither he nor Harris are likely to be able to fully do that without actions from Congress.

“It is my promise to everyone here that, when I am president, we will continue our fight for working families of America,” Harris said. “Including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

Trump responded on his social media site a short time later, posting that Harris “just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy.”

“The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes!,” the former president wrote. “This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me.”

Harris’ campaign said afterward that as president she would work with Congress to draft a proposal that includes an income limit and other provisions to keep hedge fund managers and lawyers from structuring their compensation to try to take advantage of the policy. She also would push for the proposal alongside one to increase the federal minimum wage.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, came to Nevada as the final stop of a five battleground-state blitz in which their party has shown new energy after President Joe Biden exited the race and endorsed Harris. On Sunday, the vice president is holding a San Francisco fundraiser that has already raised more than $12 million, her campaign said, with House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi among those set to speak.

There were 12,000-plus people inside the campus basketball arena on Saturday and, before the event started, local law enforcement halted entry to the event because people were becoming ill while waiting outside in 109-degree heat to go through security. About 4,000 people were in line when the entrances were closed.

Walz referenced that during his speech, but turned it into an applause line by telling Nevada, “don’t worry, we’re going to be back a lot.”

As part of the trip, Harris is hoping to build greater support among Latino voters. In 2020, Biden narrowly defeated Trump by 2.4 percentage points in Nevada.

The 60,000-strong Culinary Workers Union announced its endorsement of Harris. About 54 percent of the union’s members are Latino, 55 percent women and 60 percent immigrants. The union also issued a statement supporting Harris’ call for a higher minimum wage and to “ensure that there are no taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

Harris made her promise on eliminating tip taxation as part of a broader appeal to strengthen the nation’s middle class, seizing on a theme that was a centerpiece of Biden’s now-defunct reelection bid.

“We believe in a future where we lower the cost of living for America’s families so they have a chance, not just to get by, but to get ahead,” she said.

AP VoteCast found in 2020 that 14 percent of Nevada voters were Hispanic, with Biden winning 54 percent of their votes. His margin with Hispanic voters was slightly better nationwide, a sign that Democrats cannot take this bloc of voters for granted.

“There’s an incredible energy here among the college students and community members who are coming together to support and listen to our next president, Kamala Harris,” said Imer Cespedes-Alvarado, 21. Studying political science at UNLV, Cespedes-Alvarado is a first generation American citizen who spent his childhood in Costa Rica before making the difficult decision at 16 to return alone to the U.S. for better opportunities.

The vice president also promised to tackle immigration, leaning heavily into the issue as she did the previous night during a rally in Arizona.

“We know that our immigration system is broken, and we know what it takes to fix it,” Harris said in Las Vegas. She also endorsed an “earned pathway to citizenship” for some people in the country illegally and slammed Trump, who she said “talks a big game about border security but he does not walk the walk.”

The vice president has in recent weeks tried to seize the political offensive on an issue that Trump and top Republicans have frequently used to slam her and the Biden administration. In doing so, Harris is hoping to drive a wedge with Republicans.

Because the vice president’s portfolio in the Biden administration included the root causes of migration, and due to some of her comments before the 2020 election, many leading GOP voices have sought to portray her as weak on the southern border and enabling illegal immigration.

Trump himself has said of Harris, “As a border czar, she’s been the worst border czar in history, in the world history.”

The former president proposed mass deportations if he returns to the White House, but AP VoteCast found in 2020 that nearly 7 in 10 Nevada voters said that immigrants living in the United States illegally should be offered the chance to apply for legal status.

Still, policy aside, many of the rallygoers in Las Vegas said they were thrilled to see the new energy Harris and Walz have brought to the race.

Krista Hall, 60, and her husband Thaddeus Hager, 58, said they haven’t been more excited about an election since Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008.

“This is as electric, if not more than,” Hall said, noting that they attended several Obama rallies at the time. Hager said he’s confident that Harris and Walz will “win in a landslide.”

The Democratic ticket over the past week also visited the crucial midwestern “blue wall” states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. Along with Nevada and Arizona those states represent 61 electoral votes that could be essential for reaching the 270 threshold required to win on Election Day.

Brian Shaw, a Republican from northern Nevada, said Harris’ arrival on the top of the ticket could make it harder for Trump to win because Biden was a “pitiful candidate” and there’s little time to expose the vice president’s “incompetence.” He said he attended Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance’s rally in Reno on July 30 and found him to be “likable, capable, polished as a politician, but not veneered.”

Trump falsely claims Harris used AI to generate visuals depicting large crowds

Former President Donald Trump has long claimed his events draw the most supporters, and when he saw Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign share visuals from recent rallies depicting large crowds, he falsely claimed they must be AI-generated .

Last week approximately 12,000 people attended Harris' events in Philadelphia and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, by the campaign's count. It said 15,000 turned out to support the Democratic presidential nominee in Romulus, Michigan, and Glendale, Arizona. Thousands on the ground witnessed the the crowd sizes at her events and multiple news outlets have confirmed the campaign's numbers are in line with what they saw.

But in a series of posts on his platform over the weekend, Trump took issue with a specific visual depicting supporters greeting Harris as she stepped off Air Force Two in Michigan. He falsely claimed on Truth Social that "There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.‘d’ it."

Harris campaign: 'This is what a rally in a swing state looks like'

The Harris campaign took to Trump's own platform to respond directly to his accusations, replying with a video of the vice president arriving with her running mate Tim Walz to a cheering crowd when they got off the plane.

“In case you forgot @realdonaldtrump: This is what a rally in a swing state looks like,” her campaign wrote.

In a post Sunday, Trump also compared his false claims about Harris' crowd sizes to his false claim that the 2020 presidential election was "stolen" from him. David Plouffe, former campaign manager for President Barack Obama and now an adviser to Harris, responded on X , formerly Twitter.

“These are not conspiratorial rantings from the deepest recesses of the internet. The author could have the nuclear codes and be responsible for decisions that will affect us all for decades," Plouffe wrote.

Trump implausibly compares Jan. 6 rally crowd to MLK march

Last week, Trump rallied in Montana, where there is a competitive Senate race and held a news conference at his Mar-A-Lago residence in Florida.

The Republican presidential nominee grew frustrated when a reporter asked him about Harris' crowd sizes, responding: "Oh, give me a break." He also implausibly compared the crowd he drew for his Jan. 6, 2021 "Stop the Steal" rally was larger than the one that turned out for Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech.

"I've spoken to the biggest crowds. Nobody's spoken to crowds bigger than me," he said.

While in Arizona Friday, Walz spoke to more than 15,000 people, the Harris campaign said, and mocked Trump for his growing obsession with crowd sizes.

"It's not as if anybody cares about crowd sizes or anything," Walz said with a smile.

Trump aides have not commented on the former president's crowd size posts.

While adding images to your documents, we sometimes need to edit them to make them more comprehensible and to ensure our message is communicated effectively. For me, switching tabs to continuously edit images on separate software before inserting them into my Word document can prove to be a little time-consuming.
