Céim bheoga sna meáin agus sa Ghaeilge is ea an BA (Cumarsáid & Gaeilge), a bhíonn á teagasc go hiomlán trí mheán na Gaeilge ar champas na Gaillimhe, agus a mhaireann ar feadh ceithre bliana. Tá meascán tomhaiste inti den staidéar acadúil agus den oiliúint phraiticiúil san iriseoireacht, sa léiriú teilifíse agus raidió, sa chraoltóireacht agus sna hilmheáin, chomh maith le staidéar ar theanga agus ar litríocht na Gaeilge. Céim chruthaitheach dhá ábhar onóracha atá inti, agus tá sí á tairiscint ag an Acadamh i gcomhpháirt le Roinn na Gaeilge, OÉ Gaillimh. Treisíonn an cur chuige seo gnéithe d’oidhreacht liteartha, chultúrtha agus teanga na Gaeilge, agus tugann sé deis duit cáilíocht mhúinteoireachta sa Ghaeilge a bhaint amach ina dhiaidh.
Sa tríú bliain beidh deis agat taithí oibre a fháil in earnáil na meán, nó tionscadal ‘foghlaim sa phobal’ a chur i gcrích. Gheobhaidh tú cúnamh agus tacaíocht aonair agus taithí fhíorluachmhar sna meáin mar intéirneach le TG4, RTÉ, Raidió na Gaeltachta nó san earnáil neamhspleách raidió agus teilifíse. Beidh deis agat cur le do chumas sa Ghaeilge agus tuiscint níos doimhne a fháil ar shaíocht na Gaeltachta agus tú ar Sheimeastar Gaeltachta ar an gCeathrú Rua i gceartlár Ghaeltacht Chonamara.
An raibh a fhios agat? Chomh maith leis an gcéim ainmnithe seo, is féidir staidéar a dhéanamh ar na meáin trí Ghaeilge mar chuid den chéim GY101 BA (Comhonóracha). Eolas ar fáil anseo: http://www.nuigalway.ie/acadamh/cursai/cursai_ceime/leann_cumarsaide/ Má roghnaíonn tú Léann na Cumarsáide mar ábhar ar GY101 BA (Comhonóracha), beidh deis agat athrú sa dara bliain go dtí an chéim ainmnithe, GY122 BA (Cumarsáid agus Gaeilge) ag brath ar do chuid torthaí sa Chéad Bhliain. An buntáiste a bhaineann leis seo ná go mbeidh deis ansin agat tairbhe a bhaint as an taithí oibre luachmhar sa tríú bliain den chéim ainmnithe GY122.

Seimeastar Gaeltachta & Socrúchán Oibre Beidh an chéad seimeastar den tríú bliain ar siúl in Ionad na hOllscoile ar an gCeathrú Rua i gcroílár Ghaeltacht Chonamara. Beidh deis agat ansin barr feabhais a chur ar labhairt na teanga, agus tuiscint a fháil ar oidhreacht agus ar dhúchas na Gaeltachta. Sa dara seimeastar beidh deis agat taithí oibre a fháil in earnáil na meán, nó tionscadal ‘foghlaim sa phobal’ a chur i gcrích. Gheobhaidh tú tuiscint ar leith ar shaol na meán comhaimseartha san intéirneacht sin, déanfaidh tú teagmhálacha luachmhara, agus gheobhaidh tú scileanna praiticiúla ar an láthair oibre a sheasfaidh leat agus tú sa tóir ar phost amach anseo. Más maith leat na deiseanna a bhaineann le socrúchán oibre thar sáile nó clár Erasmus a fhiosrú, beimid lánsásta comhairle a chur ort ina dtaobh.
Bliain a hAon Sa chéad bhliain faigheann tú tuiscint ar an léiriú físe agus fuaime trí ghearrfhíseáin a thaifeadadh ar an bhfón cliste, eagarthóireacht a dhéanamh orthu, agus gnéithe den chraoltóireacht raidió a chleachtadh. Forbraíonn tú do chumas anailíse agus machnaimh agus an litearthacht chriticiúil trí staidéar a dhéanamh ar théacsanna ábhartha, forbraíonn tú do chuid scileanna cur i láthair trí pháirt ghníomhach a ghlacadh i ndíospóireachtaí bríomhara, agus cuireann tú go mór le do chumas i labhairt agus i scríobh na Gaeilge. Faoi mar a tharlaíonn i gcláir léinn eile sna Dána, sa chéad bhliain déanann tú staidéar ar thrí ábhar léinn. Chomh maith le Cumarsáid agus Gaeilge, mar sin, roghnóidh tú ábhar amháin eile as na cinn seo a leanas: Léann an Aistriúcháin, Fraincis, Béarla, Stair, Matamaitic, Léann an Dlí, Síceolaíocht, an tSibhialtacht Cheilteach, Eacnamaíocht, Léann na Socheolaíochta agus na Polaitíochta, Teicneolaíocht na Faisnéise, an Bhreatnais, Spáinnis, Seandálaíocht. Moltar duit Léann an Aistriúcháin a roghnú chun cur le do chumas teanga.
Bliain a Dó Sa dara bliain cuireann tú le do chuid scileanna san iriseoireacht chraolta agus scríofa, scrúdaíonn tú tionchar na meán mar uirlisí múnlaithe meoin, agus déanann tú iniúchadh ar stair na meán Gaeilge. Scrúdaíonn tú gnéithe éagsúla de litríocht na Gaeilge sa tréimhse 1200-1900 agus gnéithe den nualitríocht, agus leagtar béim ar shealbhú na teanga mar theanga bheo labhartha. Cuireann tú leis an tuiscint atá agat ar an íomhá shocair agus ar an íomhá ghluaisteach, ar 'ghramadach na seatanna' agus ar 'ghramadach na heagarthóireachta', agus forbraíonn tú do chuid scileanna i réimse na teicneolaíochta faisnéise agus sa chraoltóireacht i gcoitinne.
Bliain a Trí Buntáiste mór a bhaineann leis an gcúrsa is ea an deis a fhaigheann tú sa tríú bliain taithí luachmhar a fháil mar intéirneach le TG4, RTÉ, Raidió na Gaeltachta nó san earnáil neamhspleách raidió agus teilifíse. Gheobhaidh tú tuiscint ar leith ar shaol na meán comhaimseartha san intéirneacht sin, déanfaidh tú teagmhálacha luachmhara, agus gheobhaidh tú scileanna praiticiúla ar an láthair oibre a sheasfaidh leat agus tú sa tóir ar phost amach anseo. Chomh maith leis sin caithfidh tú seimeastar iomlán i mbun staidéir in Ionad na hOllscoile ar an gCeathrú Rua i gcroílár Ghaeltacht Chonamara. Beidh deis agat ansin barr feabhais a chur ar labhairt na teanga, agus tuiscint a fháil ar oidhreacht agus ar dhúchas na Gaeltachta.
Bliain a Ceathair Sa bhliain dheiridh leanfaidh tú den staidéar ar theanga agus ar litríocht na Gaeilge, agus déanfaidh tú iniúchadh ar chuid de na dúshláin a bheireann na meáin shóisialta do na meáin thraidisiúnta. Curriculum Information
Glossary of terms, year 1 (60 credits), year 2 (60 credits), year 3 (60 credits), year 4 (60 credits).
MA/Dioplóma Iarchéime (Cleachtas Gairmiúil sna Meáin) Cód PAC: GYA97 (lánaimseartha), GYA98 (páirtaimseartha) Páirtnéireacht eisceachtúil idir Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh agus Raidió Teilifís Éireann is ea an MA (Cleachtas Gairmiúil sna Meáin) atá á chur ar fáil trí mheán na Gaeilge ag Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge. Faoin bpáirtnéireacht seo, déanfaidh tú staidéar agus anailís chriticiúil ar na meáin agus ar chruinnscríobh na Gaeilge san Ollscoil agus ar líne; agus déanfaidh tú staidéar ar chleachtais ghairmiúla chomhaimseartha sna meáin in aonaid Ghaeilge éagsúla de chuid RTÉ i gConamara agus i mBaile Átha Cliath. Cur chuige nuálach agus tarraingteach é seo: beidh deis agat tréimhsí suntasacha a chaitheamh ar láithreacha oibre RTÉ le linn an chláir, ní mar ghnáth-intéirneach, ach mar mhac léinn a bheidh faoi stiúir acadúil leanúnach. Ar an gcaoi sin gheobhaidh tú taithí luachmhar san iriseoireacht, sa chraoltóireacht, agus i gcruthú ábhair d'ardáin ilmheán, agus tú ag feidhmiú mar 'chleachtóir machnamhach' sa mhórchraoltóir náisiúnta.
Cén fáth a roghnófá an cúrsa seo?
Deiseanna fostaíochta.
Agus do chéim bainte amach agat beidh tú oilte sa léiriú teilifíse agus raidió, sa chraoltóireacht, san iriseoireacht chlóite agus ar líne, sna hilmheáin agus i dteicneolaíochtaí digiteacha éagsúla. Beidh tú inniúil ar struchtúr an scéil agus ar theanga na físe; beidh tú in ann anailís a dhéanamh ar ról na meán sa tsochaí chomhaimseartha; agus beidh tuiscint ghrinn agat ar shaol agus ar chultúr na teanga mar theanga bheo sa lá atá inniu ann. Is é taithí chéimithe an chláir ná gur buntáiste suntasach dóibh é a líofacht Ghaeilge agus iad sa tóir ar fhostaíocht i margadh fíoriomaíoch na meán, margadh na teilifíse agus an raidió ach go háirithe. Ar na fostóirí sa bhaile agus i gcéin a fhostaíonn céimithe an chláir tá RTÉ, TG4, BBC, stáisiúin raidió áitiúla, comhlachtaí léiriúcháin neamhspleácha agus comhlachtaí caidrimh phoiblí. Is bunús láidir é céim sna meáin agus sa Ghaeilge i ngairmeacha eile: sa pholaitíocht, sa ghnó, sa bhainistíocht, san earnáil neamhbhrabúis (eagraíochtaí neamhrialtasacha agus catharthanachta), agus san earnáil phoiblí. Pointe Eolais Bhuaigh mic léinn na Cumarsáide Smedia in 2022 don Chlár Raidió Gaeilge is fearr dar teideal ‘Abair Amach É’.

During your time in University of Galway, you’ll use the Library for a range of services. You can study there, borrow course material, search the internet, consult archives, and do other things like photocopying and use computers. You can bring in your laptop as the building offers full wireless access. However, the core aim of the Library is to provide a welcoming and student-centred environment whether you come in physically to the building, or use it virtually over the University’s network. Get a brief overview on Library Services here.
‘Students with disabilities’ refers to students who have any disability whether physical, sensorial, developmental, psychological or hidden (such as diabetes, asthma and/or cystic fibrosis). It is important that we realise that the demands of people with disabilities are not about exceptions or special treatment, but about the fulfilment of rights, especially the right to fully participate.
The right to participate has been denied to many students with disabilities through the lack of facilities available in many 3rd level colleges. Fortunately colleges, including University of Galway, are becoming more aware of their obligations towards students with disabilities and are taking steps to make colleges more accessible. If you are a student with a disability and would like to find out more about the facilities available, or let us know what facilities should be made available in this college that would be of benefit to you and other students with disabilities, please contact one of the following.
For more information, contact the Disability office here.

Your mentor is a 2nd or 3rd year students who has been in the same position as you and can answer any queries you have in relation to starting your new life in University. Social engagement within the University is key to a successful student experience. Each first year is pre-allocated a mentor so you can contact them the week prior to coming to University with any queries you may have.
