To give tribute to the famous Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, emperor Akbar founded the Fatehpur Sikri from the twin villages of Fatehpur and Sikri in 1569. Jallianwala Bagh is a historical garden near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, which was established by the Indian Government in 1951 to commemorate the massacre of Indian protesters by British military troops. It is a site of a sad but defining moment in the freedom struggle of India’s history. On 13th April 1919, following the instruction of Brigadier General R.E.H. Dyer, the British troops did open fire on a large group of unarmed protesters. In this firing, more than ten thousand people were killed, which is also known as the Amritsar Massacre.

Gateway of India: The Gateway of India subsequently played a significant part in India’s history. It is an arc monument built in the 20th century. Presently, it is situated in Mumbai city. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. When India attained Independence, the last British troops departed through it in 1948.

Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a historical fort in old Delhi. It was built as a palace by the 5th Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, as he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi in 1638. The capital was known as Shahjahanabad which is currently present in Old Delhi. The fort represents the Mughal architecture under the Shah Jahan emperor that combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions.

Ajanta Ellora Caves is the largest rock-cut Hindu temple in the world which is carved into hillside rock in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. There are around 100 caves at the site, but only 34 caves are open for public view.

Our school had already announced that we were going to see the Taj Mahal. We were elated and were wondering how thrilling, and exciting this experience would be. We had heard and read about it- there was a full chapter in our history book on Taj Mahal, but now we were about to see it for real.

Our principal and teachers had planned for all of us to visit the Taj Mahal on a full moon night. We were told that on the full moon night the monument looks even more glamorous and glorious, and it makes for a splendid spectacle. This added even more excitement to the previous announcement. We would have had to stay awake the whole night but so what? For such a wonderful experience, it was not a big deal.

We were asked to assemble on a Saturday afternoon at the school campus. We were instructed to carry our packed dinner-boxes and water bottles. We were strictly prohibited from buying any eatables there or littering the Taj Garden’s premises. We were warned against buying the souvenirs from the crafty hawkers. These instructions and warnings were repeated to us over and over again. First by our Principal, then by the respective teachers who were in charge of our groups into which we were divided.

We had brought consent from our parents in writing for this trip. From Delhi to Agra, we had to travel by bus, it was around a 5 hours journey. We assembled at the school campus at the given time, and were divided into groups. The teachers took charge of the respective groups, our teacher in charge asked us to stand in a queue, she called out our names from a list that she carried. The items each one of us was carrying were inspected, and then we went ahead to board the buses. 

As we started to move out of the school campus, we all hailed the school with three cheers in a chorus and the journey began. After about 5 hours we were told that we were at The Taj Mahal. The full moon was shining in the sky right above us. The premises seemed like it was filled with the milky hue. We left our buses at a little distance and stepped down. Again, our teachers called out our names from the lists, and we all stood in a straight line. We followed our teacher and walked towards the monument.

After a little while, we were at the main gate of The Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal glowed in the full moonlight in its grandeur. We all felt wonderstruck by the majesty, beauty, and opulence of the dome structure. The moonlit premises added elegance to the mystique. The Taj Mahal resembled a white swan standing still in a sprawling milk lake. The fountains on the campus were bubbling and bursting along the pathway. The fountains were flanked by the green lawns on either side. It was heavily crowded. Men, women, and children were trying to find a way for themselves. There were so many foreigners looking at the monument like they were totally wonderstruck.

We had to ramble to make it to the main platform, took off our shoes at the entrance, and were up on the main platform on which stood the great monument. The four minarets stood like sentinels on the four corners. After about two hours of wandering and rejoicing around the ‘Dream in Marble’, we came down to the lawns to open our dinner packets. Thereafter, it was time to begin our return journey.

Last Sunday, I visited the Taj Mahal with my family. It was a dream come true for us to have visited the architectural marvel about which we have heard so much and had read so much in our books. We started feeling proud of our country to have this magnificent form of art.

Our history teacher asked us to assemble at a place and started explaining how the Mughal emperor Shahjahan got this monument built as a mausoleum for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. He had stated his desire to be buried by her side after his death. So, there were the two graves inside the mausoleum placed side by side.

We roamed around, kept adoring the astounding beauty, and were amazed at the artistry of the fine carvings. How gifted must those hands be which created that piece of art with so much artistry, we pondered. We looked at the Taj Mahal at one glance and in the second looked at the full moon in the sky. The Taj Mahal looked no less marvellous than the moon in the sky.

River Yamuna flows on the backside of this magnificent monument. It was as if the Yamuna was washing the feet of this marvellous wonder with a full sense of gratitude. For two hours, we went around this monument only rejoicing and wondering.

I visited the famed Prayag relic, Patalpuri Temple, one of the oldest remaining pre-Muslim buildings. Close to the arsenal's northern wall sits this shrine. It seems the fort was built to be erected far higher than the temple.

The Akshaya Var tree was again in my path as I continued walking. This tree's wish-fulfilling well is said to be a popular destination for folklore lovers. Akbar stopped it. The Mughal Governor's (Military Commander's) pavilion, however, was  most inviting with Beautiful pillars. They had impeccable taste.

The British decided to demolish a considerable portion of the fort to make place for a school, reducing its beauty. At present, the historic palace is now an arsenal.

Then I went back to Triveni for a swim. I lauded the Ganga's merits after my Allahabad Fort visit. Comparing the old and new forts at Allahabad, it is evident that the old fort at Allahabad is in ruins, while the new fort at Allahabad demonstrates neglect.

It may have been called a joy forever, but unfortunately in the materialistic world of today, even the beauty of the Taj Mahal is in danger because of the effluent Nitrous oxide and Sulphur dioxide being emitted by the Mathura refinery. Let us hope the scientists are able to find a fix and can save our Taj Mahal.

Last Sunday that is on 30 th July 2023 I visited the Matheran hill station with my family to enjoy and take a fill of monsoon. Matheson hill station is famous tourist place in India. Our journey began from Kalyan. We were not aware about train routes and timings so we traveled booking a private car by Ola from Kalyan city to our destination point which was Matheran. The cab we booked was for four people, my father, mother, elder brother and me and it was really comfortable ride. We reached the base of hill station were the local resident stopped our Ola car and said further no online cars or auto rickshaw can be send. Only the own vehicles can be passed on their own risks. So we travelled from base of Hill station to upside in another vehicle drivers by local resident who were experienced about the drive and route. Whiling going upside, the route way really risky for new driver to go on. The route was all zigzag but finally after 15 mins we reached the upside of hill station upto where cars can be allowed. Further their was the main gate of Matheran. Matheran is a big place and yet we were not at the destination place exactly. There was facility of Train and Horses to travel. We preferred to walk and explore the place. We didn’t had much luggage with us, only the sag around our shoulders. Me and brother were so excited to see the place.  There were people who would guide us through all the places on horse and also charge for it. But my father is smart he already had a map and we followed him and visited various points on the Matheran hill station,  as it was afternoon time we reached there so we decided to visit sunset point at the last. We started with Heart point, monkey point and then we went through short cut through the jungle and reached the echo point. It was really awesome view at each point. It was more adventurous when it started raining a bit, just like shower. It was 4 pm and the last we wanted to visit was sunset point to see the beautiful scene of sun setting down so we rested at a small hotel and had a over look of photographs we took at each points.

My First Travels Were Through Stories My Grandmother Told

It was eight in the morning, and the prickly July humidity had already seeped through my skin as I hopped out of the cab in Singapore’s Little India . Greeted by the bustle of vendors setting up, I was transported back to my childhood, to days spent wandering the neighborhood with my grandmother. The aroma of fresh coriander from vibrant spice stalls spurred memories of her tangy coconut prawn curry. The musky fragrance of jasmine adorning colorful flower stalls reminded me of how she’d woven them into my braids. She never would again.

The air around you changes when someone you love leaves this world. My grandmother’s death was not a surprise, but the shock that I would no longer make new memories with her broke me. When I moved to Vancouver nearly seven years earlier, I’d left behind my family—her most notably, my eternally curious grandmother, who taught me how to be the same, how to notice the world.

She spoke many languages : English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi—even a little Japanese, since she grew up during the Japanese occupation of Singapore. Words confidently left her lips as she spoke with native speakers in their mother tongues. I’ve heard that mastering a language as an adult was difficult, but the sight and sounds of her code-switching with confidence to connect with others encouraged me to follow my own curiosities.

When I first arrived in Vancouver, in 2012, my natural reaction was to find something familiar, a Singaporean community —not particularly difficult given the city’s strong Asian diaspora. But there was a voice in my head that told me to try something new; perhaps it was my grandmother’s. After I signed up on a whim to volunteer at an annual Mexican independence day celebration, I started Spanish lessons too. Years later, I now split my time in Medellín and Vancouver; my hard-earned fluency has paid off. My curiosity has reaped dividends. I have my grandmother to thank for it.

In 2019, when my mother in Singapore said that my grandmother wasn’t doing well, I booked the first flight home. But flights are long and phone calls don’t make it through. She died while I was somewhere over the Pacific ; I missed saying goodbye to her by five hours. At her funeral, I navigated conversations with people I hadn’t seen in almost a decade, opening the door to a past self: that of a young Nikkita too afraid to voice her opinions, too concerned with good impressions. That identity was one I’d long outgrown after my time in Vancouver, where I knew no one, where I had a chance to develop my individuality, where I incorporated the lessons my grandmother instilled in me.

From the time I was five years old, my grandmother brought me along on a weekly ritual she kept with her sisters. Every Thursday, they picked an activity to explore Singapore anew, meeting first to pray at Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple in the city’s Little India. The tradition became so ingrained that my parents got used to writing sick notes for me; they eventually ran out of mysterious ailments to give me so I could skip school for the day. These midweek escapades were a highlight: Sometimes we escaped the tropical heat at the nearby Cathay Cineplex , Singapore’s first air-conditioned cinema, where we watched foreign movies, traveling through films. On other days, we toured goldsmiths across Little India—though we always returned to her favorite, Meena Jewellers . Through their jewelry, my grandmother taught me about hand-carved designs that incorporated Hindu mythology and Indian gemstones, like sapphire and moonstone, with gold.

I admired my grandmother’s resoluteness whenever she ventured outside her comfort zone. She often traveled alone from Singapore to India —to Trivandrum, Kerala, near where her parents were born. This was in the age of calling cards, and we wouldn’t hear from her for days. Whenever we finally reached her, she would nonchalantly recount her adventures across Kerala, including visits to the gold-plated Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and the almost 2,000-year-old Janardhana Swamy Temple by Varkala’s seaside.

Nair’s grandmother once recounted a stay aboard a houseboat such as this one in Kerala, and her description of sleeping on the backwaters transported Nair.

Spiritual as her pilgrimages were, she was more fascinated by centuries-old architecture and pilgrims she’d meet while traveling alone—the culture of the people who lived in the area, the food they ate, the way they lived. I recall how, when I was nine years old, she let me help her unpack her overloaded suitcase after she’d returned from one of her trips. She told me about how she stayed on a houseboat in Kerala and what she ate onboard—chakka thoran, one of her favorite dishes, a stir-fry made with coconut and tender jackfruit. As she described being lulled to sleep along green-colored backwaters fenced by slender coconut palm trees in Alappuzha, I learned to explore the world through her stories, by what she shared with me. It’s these details my grandmother remembered—that I remember now—that taught me that to see and to notice is, in some small way, to travel.

On my last day in Singapore, seven days after her funeral, I roamed past refurbished two-story shophouses in Little India, admiring the intricate architecture that spanned generations, much like the temples my grandmother marveled at during her trips to Kerala. Growing up, I’d never noticed the colorfully painted façades; but on that day, I saw them carefully restored in pastel-colored hues. Many storefronts I recalled from my childhood were still around: established restaurants like Komala Vilas with their vegetarian South Indian cuisine, and Muthu’s Curry , a favorite for their zesty fish-head curry. Yet much had changed, like the DVD shops I’d visited with my grandmother, where we had eagerly purchased every Bollywood movie ever released. In their place were more eateries and even more goldsmiths, ones my grandmother would never notice. But everything, I realized, runs its course.

I wandered through narrow paths, cutting between shophouses and avoiding crowds, proud that I was not lost in the streets I hadn’t seen in seven years—that I had last seen with my grandmother. At that moment, without her, I was finding my own way.

If your device was ever signed into an organization using a work or school account , the recovery key could be stored in that organization's account. You might be able to access it directly, or you might need to contact the IT support for that organization to access your recovery key.

From another device, open a web browser and go to  https://aka.ms/aadrecoverykey

Sign in with your work or school account

Select Devices  and expand the device for which you need to retrieve the recovery key

Select the option View BitLocker Keys

Using the key ID, find the related recovery key and use it to unlock the drive

On a printout

You might have printed your recovery key when BitLocker was activated. Look where you keep important papers related to your device.

On a USB flash drive

Plug the USB flash drive into your locked device and follow the instructions. If you saved the key as a text file on the flash drive, use a different device to read the text file.

What if I can't find the recovery key?

If your device is managed by an organization, check with your IT department to retrieve the recovery key.

If you can’t find the BitLocker recovery key and are unable to undo any changes that caused it to be needed, you’ll have to reset your device using one of the Windows recovery options .

Resetting your device will remove all of your files.

Important:  Microsoft Support is unable to provide, or recreate, a lost BitLocker recovery key.

Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, the newly announced running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris, has worked with his state’s Democratic-controlled Legislature to enact an ambitious agenda of liberal policies: free college tuition for low-income students, free meals for schoolchildren, legal recreational marijuana and protections for transgender people.

“You don’t win elections to bank political capital,” Mr. Walz wrote last year about his approach to governing. “You win elections to burn political capital and improve lives.”

Republicans have slammed these policies as big-government liberalism and accused Mr. Walz of taking a hard left turn since he represented a politically divided district in Congress years ago.

Here is an overview of where Mr. Walz stands on some key issues.

Mr. Walz signed a bill last year that guaranteed Minnesotans a “fundamental right to make autonomous decisions” about reproductive health care on issues such as abortion, contraception and fertility treatments.

Abortion was already protected by a Minnesota Supreme Court decision, but the new law guarded against a future court reversing that precedent as the U.S. Supreme Court did with Roe v. Wade, and Mr. Walz said this year that he was also open to an amendment to the state’s Constitution that would codify abortion rights.

Another bill he signed legally shields patients, and their medical providers, if they receive an abortion in Minnesota after traveling from a state where abortion is banned.
