Free Printable Homework Pass Set for K-12 Teachers

Plus ideas for using them.

Set of four free printable homework passes on a blue background with school supplies

The homework pass just might be the most coveted of all school rewards. It’s easy for teachers too, since it doesn’t cost a thing. Make it even easier to hand out homework passes with our free printable set of two options, each in two styles. Just fill out the form on this page to grab them.

Homework can be a surprisingly controversial topic. While many assume it’s just a natural part of a child’s education, others feel that homework isn’t all it’s cracked up to be . As we seek to encourage a better work-life balance for adults, is it possible homework is sending the wrong message to kids ?

That being said, very few schools have banned homework altogether , and it does have its benefits. It’s especially useful in subjects like math and reading, where students profit from lots of skills practice. Sometimes, though, it’s nice to offer kids a break with no penalty, or at least the chance to postpone their assignment to a better night. That’s where the homework pass comes in.

Homework Pass Options

Our free printable homework passes come in two options, with styles for both elementary and middle/high school:

  • No Homework: This pass allows kids to skip a homework assignment, with no penalty to their grade.
  • One Day Late: This one gives them an extra day to turn in their work, which can be really helpful if they have a busy night of after-school activities or aren’t feeling well.

Most teachers put some limitations on their homework passes, specifying that they’re for certain assignments only. (You don’t want to give a student a free pass on a big project or paper.) Make sure you explain any restrictions when you hand yours out.

Some teachers give every student a certain number of passes to use each semester or year. Others use them as rewards or prizes for in-class competitions or quizzes.

The Magic of a Homework Pass for Classroom Management

Middle school classroom management requires a teacher to have many different strategies at their fingertips. Add the homework pass strategy to your classroom management plan to help engage and reward students from the 2 Peas and a Dog blog.

I surprised all of them this morning with a HAPPY NEW YEAR homework pass. I rarely hand out paper homework passes because I am trying to cut down on my class’ paper consumption. This year students have received only three paper homework passes Welcome Back, Birthday and Happy New Year.

Students get so excited when they get a homework pass. The majority of my students do not use them. They like to collect them throughout the year to see how many they can collect and not use. I taught some of my current students last year in my 7/8 split. They asked me on the first day of school if their homework passes carry over.

Do you use homework passes in your classroom? What is your procedure? Please share your ideas in the comments section below.  Try reward passes in your classroom. Find this resource on Shopify CAD and Teachers Pay Teachers USD .

K-Hope you are feeling better soon! I love the idea for the passes! I don't do this because I expect homework to be done and I give students plenty of time to get it finished and handed in on time. I do use something similar to you though..I stopped having a prize box this year and I have a set of cards…I got the idea from PINTEREST..and I laminated them. Things like, Special Supply Box, Specialty Seating, Wear a Hat in Class, Wear your IPOD in class. The kids LOVE it. I keep track of them in a method similar to yours…but I do hand out the pass…the kids love picking one out and then they have to submit it when they want to redeem it. I guess I don't worry too much because I laminated them, so they will get used again and again. This has motivated my students much more than the regular "pull something out of the prize box" and it has cost me next to nothing! Get better soon!

3 Remaining free agents the Milwaukee Bucks should make room for

By dalton sell | aug 1, 2024.

Brooklyn Nets v Milwaukee Bucks

Despite having limited resources to do so, the Milwaukee Bucks have done a wonderful job of filling out their 18-man roster.

Highlighted by the Gary Trent Jr. signing , general manager Jon Horst has addressed several of the team's needs without breaking the bank financially. Now, the question is whether the Bucks will stroll into the season with this roster or if they still plan to make some tweaks. Considering there are still a handful of quality free agents left on the market, the team may be wise to keep retooling.

If the Milwaukee Bucks bring aboard one of these free agents, they would first have to shed one of their current contracts. The two likeliest names if that were to happen are Pat Connaughton and MarJon Beauchamp, given Connaughton's contract and Beauchamp's value dipping following his sluggish Summer League stint.

If the Bucks were to clear a roster spot by salary dumping either of these two or any other player, here are three remaining free agents they should pursue.

Dennis Smith Jr.

The Milwaukee Bucks beefed up their backcourt this offseason by signing Delon Wright to a one-year deal. Although Wright could play backup point guard, he's also no stranger to sliding to the two-guard slot and playing off the ball. If the Bucks were to continue strengthening their backcourt by signing an energetic player in former Nets guard Dennis Smith Jr., Wright would play shooting guard.

On impact, Smith would bring more defense, athleticism and youth, three things the Milwaukee Bucks clearly made a priority to add this offseason. At 6-foot-2, the 26-year-old isn't the largest, but he's still a hound on the defensive end, making every possession difficult for his matchup. He can also create a highlight at any given moment, as he's become known for his high-flying dunks.

In Milwaukee, Smith, who is a former teammate of Bucks point guard Damian Lillard from their time in Portland, would give this team a second-unit sparkplug. A team can never have too many perimeter defenders on the roster, so if the Milwaukee Bucks were to free up a roster spot, aiming to fill it with Smith would be justifiable.

Tiny Michigan village filled with 'pure joy' as Paul Whelan is released from Russia

green homework pass

Manchester's quaint downtown was abuzz Thursday with the news that Paul Whelan is coming home .

The former Marine, whose parents live in a farmhouse less than a mile from Main Street, was detained more than five years in Russia on charges of espionage that he and the U.S. government have said were fabricated.

"He's finally free," one man said as he paid the bill for his lunch at the Manchester Diner.

A woman holding a menu at a nearby table broke into a broad grin upon hearing the news that Whelan, the 54-year-old former global security chief for auto supplier BorgWarner, was released Thursday in a historic prisoner swap that included two other U.S. citizens, an American green card holder, five Germans and seven Russian citizens who were held as political prisoners in their own country.

Leslie Kirkland, 57, who owns the diner, said this small Washtenaw County village about 25 miles southwest of Ann Arbor was filled with "pure joy" Thursday. Whelan's parents, Rosemary and Edward Whelan, are regular customers. They've been distraught, she said, since their son's arrest in Moscow in December 2018.

"We have been here, supporting them, all this time," said Kirkland, pointing to the poster that hangs in her restaurant's window that says, "Team Free Paul Whelan." She recalled the countless conversations she has had over the years with Whelan's parents.

Some days, Edward and Rosemary Whelan would come into the restaurant and talk about their son and how he was faring at IK-17, a labor camp in the Russian province of Mordovia. Other times, they didn't want to talk about it.

"It really means a lot for the community because not only have we supported them, but they've supported us, you know?" Kirkland said. "They're always around town. They didn't hide themselves away. We have their posters up; there's the ribbons all over so we don't forget, and that kind of thing. Everyone's just so happy for them."

More: Paul Whelan released from Russia in prisoner swap that includes reporter Evan Gershkovich

More: Biden: Paul Whelan's 'brutal ordeal is over' after release from prison in Russia

Jack Coluccy, 18, works part time at Sharon Valley Bicycle Shoppe. He remembered helping years ago in the effort to tie yellow ribbons for Whelan to lampposts and tree trunks along Main Street so people would have a constant visual reminder of Manchester's stolen son.

"I saw a community post about it, and just went out and helped," he said. "No tourist inside a foreign country should be detained for espionage if their intentions were clearly to be there as a tourist. I am grateful that he's been released. I'm hoping to see him around here soon."

Whelan was in Russia to attend the wedding of a friend in late 2018 when he was arrested and accused of spying . He, his family, and the U.S. government denied the Kremlin's allegations, saying Whelan had been set up by the Russian government and was wrongfully detained. In June 2020, he was convicted in a closed-door trial in Moscow and sentenced to 16 years in a labor camp.

As Whelan's detention stretched from weeks to months and eventually to years, he lost his job as head of global security for auto suppler BorgWarner and his family had to let go of his apartment and store his belongings, his brother, David Whelan, told the Free Press in early 2020 .

"He will come back to no job, no apartment, no income, you know? No health care. Everything will just be sort of completely shattered for him," David Whelan said at the time. "So we're going to try and just nurse as much of that as we can to make it last as long as possible because it would be terrible to come back and ... have just every part of your life destroyed."

Denise Collins, 64, of Manchester, burst into tears when she heard the news Thursday afternoon.

She was on the phone at her restaurant, Frank's Place, and told the person on other end of the line, "I'm going to have to call you back."

Tears spilled down her cheeks, and she said: "His parents are the sweetest people ever, and you know, they're getting older. I'm so happy for them. The last time I saw them, I gave them a big hug and I said, 'I say prayers for you all the time.'

"They're the most wonderful people you have ever met. Five years! And he was held there for no reason whatsoever."

At Reed Barbering up the street, Terry Biegas, 64, of Brooklyn, snipped off the long pieces of a customer's hair Thursday and talked about how much the Whelan family's suffering has weighed on her mind.

Edward Whelan has sat in her barber chair in the past, telling her while she cut his hair that he and his wife stayed home every Saturday, hoping that their son would call.

"When you talk to the family members and you see what they're going through, it's really terrible," Biegas said. "The U.S. government couldn't get him out. The military hasn't been able to get him out. What do you do? You're helpless on this side. Who do you ask for help?

"They basically were staying home every Saturday for that one phone call."

Whelan was passed over in two other U.S. prisoner exchanges with Russia in recent years involving another former Marine, Trevor Reed, and women's basketball star Brittney Griner. Whelan, his family, and friends feared a deal to bring him home before the end of his 16-year sentence might never come to pass.

"I really never thought it was going to happen anytime soon," Kirkland said. "I've watched his parents get older in these last few years, and I thought, I hope they get to see him."

And now, they will.

Though Kirkland hasn't been able to talk with the Whelan family yet about details, she said she's planning a big party at the diner to celebrate his return to Michigan.

"Maybe not the entire community, but for friends, family, businesspeople that have supported them," she said. "We'll do something. Someone else had mentioned we should do a parade. So who knows what's going to happen, but I'm going to do something here soon with their permission."

Who is Vladimir Kara-Murza? What we know about Russian-born dissident released in swap

Russian-born vladimir kara-murza, a journalist and critic of moscow, was among those released thursday in a massive east-west prisoner swap..

green homework pass

One of Russia's most outspoken critics was among the 16 prisoners the Kremlin released as part of one of the most significant East-West prisoner exchanges since the Cold War.

Russian-born Vladimir Kara-Murza, a journalist and contributing columnist to the Washington Post, had been imprisoned since 2022 on charges of treason. The 42-year-old dissident had been sentenced last year to a 25 year prison term before Russia agreed to release him and others in exchange for the return of eight individuals held in the U.S., Germany, Norway, Slovenia and Poland.

Wall Street Journal reporter  Evan Gershkovich , former U.S. Marine  Paul Whelan  and Alsu Kurmasheva, a Russian-American journalist, were also released from Russian custody Thursday as part of the swap. The exchange follows months of secretive negotiations and marks a rare moment of cooperation between Russia and its geopolitical adversaries in the West after more than two years of Russia's war in Ukraine.

“Their brutal ordeal is over, and they are free,” U.S. President Joe Biden said from the White House .

Prisoner swap: Beyond Paul Whelan, who else was released in the US-Russia prisoner exchange

Here's what we know about Kara-Murza:

Who is Vladimir Kara-Murza?

Born in Moscow, Kara-Murza has also had British citizenship since his  mother married a man from England when he was a teenager.

The journalist and Post contributor has long been an outspoken critic and dissident in Russia, repeatedly condemning Russia's war in Ukraine, calling for sanctions against Moscow and accusing Russia President Vladimir Putin of running a murderous dictatorship, according to Reuters .

In May, Kara-Murza was awarded the  Pulitzer Prize for commentary "for passionate columns written under great personal risk from his prison cell, warning of the consequences of dissent in Vladimir Putin's Russia and insisting on a democratic future for his country."

When was Murza arrested?

Kara-Murza was arrested in 2022 two months after Russia invaded Ukraine. when the Kremlin accused him of spreading false information about the armed forces.

The father of three was later charged with treason over speeches he had made about the war, including one to the Arizona House of Representatives in March 2022 in which he said Putin was bombing Ukrainian homes, hospitals and schools, according to Reuters .

In April 2023, he was sentenced to 25 years behind bars, a ruling Russian's Supreme Court upheld in May after Kara-Murza filed an appeal in which he said he was being punished solely for exercising his right to speak out freely against Putin, Reuters reported.

Since his arrest and conviction, Kara-Murza has been in solitary confinement in a maximum-security prison in Siberia. He also suffers from a nerve disorder after surviving two attempts to poison him, according to Reuters.

In his  most recent column  in June, titled "I am not a foreign agent," Kara-Murza described his time in captivity and his anticipation of another criminal trial this fall. He wrote that he faces more charges on top of the 25-year term.

"It appears the Russian state is not done with me yet,” he wrote.

Description

Homework passes have never been easier! This download includes editable homework passes with 5 different border designs. There are 2 black and white and 3 color designs. I would recommend copying the black and white passes onto colored paper to make them look more special to students.

These homework passes all have editable titles . The words in the title will auto-size, so your titles can be as long or as short as you need! Biden administration announces new steps aiming to crack down on fentanyl

The Biden administration on Wednesday announced it is pursuing two new actions aimed at curbing the flow of illicit fentanyl and other synthetic opioids into the U.S.

What You Need To Know

The biden administration on wednesday announced it is pursuing two new actions aimed at curbing the flow of illicit fentanyl and other synthetic opioids into the u.s.  the steps include issuing a national security memorandum and calling on congress to pass new legislation to address the crisis  the proposed legislation would establish a national pill press and tabletting registry, impose new penalties on drug smugglers and traffickers; permanately make fentanyl-related substances schedule one drugs, and require importers to provide more information to customs and border protection to better identify packages containing fentanyl precursor chemicals  overdose deaths  soared during the covid-19 pandemic  and the rate of deaths from synthetic opioids like fentanyl  was 18 times higher in 2020 compared to 2013,  according  to the centers for disease control and prevention .

The steps include issuing a national security memorandum and calling on Congress to pass new legislation to address the crisis.

Through legislation, a senior administration official told reporters on a call previewing the announcement, President Joe Biden is hoping Congress can make progress in closing loopholes exploited by drug traffickers through four pathways.

Those include establishing a national pill press and tabletting registry, which would help enforcement officials track the machines used to press fentanyl into pills that look like legitimate prescription medication; imposing new penalties on drug smugglers and traffickers; permanently making fentanyl-related substances schedule one drugs, the most restrictive category, and requiring importers to provide more information to Customs and Border Protection to better identify packages containing fentanyl precursor chemicals.

The national security memorandum set to be issued by President Joe Biden, meanwhile, will direct federal departments and agencies to step up efforts to take on illicit fentanyl and synthetic opioids through expanding intelligence collection, increasing coordination and communication and leading work with the private sector.

“It requires departments and agencies to do even more, to work together, to share information across intelligence and law enforcement and within different law enforcement channels, and to break down any existing information silos so that we can more effectively go after drug traffickers and the supply chain,” the official told reporters on the call.

Overdose deaths soared during the COVID-19 pandemic and the rate of deaths from synthetic opioids like fentanyl  was 18 times higher in 2020 compared to 2013, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The senior official told reporters that the U.S. has seized more than 442 million potentially lethal doses of fentanyl at the border in the last five months, adding that the administration has seized more of the substance in the last two years than the previous five years combined.

Provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that drug overdose deaths decreased slightly last year from 2022, marking the first annual decline since 2018.

Combating fentanyl was a large part of Biden’s meeting with China’s Xi Jinping last year on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco. The president emerged from his sit-down with Xi touting that China had agreed to take action to stem the flow of precursor chemicals and pill presses from China to the Western Hemisphere.

The official on the call said the administration believes there is “a lot more” China needs to do but noted conversations are on-going. The official said a delegation of senior officials are coming to meet on Wednesday to continue discussions on the matter.

China and Mexico play a large role in the flow of synthetic fentanyl into the U.S., with chemicals coming from China and the drugs largely mass-produced in Mexico before being trafficked into the U.S.

Biden has also worked with Mexico on the issue.

Packers Injury Report: Jacobs, Cooper Questionable for Family Night

Bill huber | aug 1, 2024.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper

  • Green Bay Packers

GREEN BAY, Wis. – A pair of Green Bay Packers newcomers, running back Josh Jacobs and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, are questionable for Saturday’s Family Night practice at Lambeau Field.

Jacobs, the 2022 NFL rushing champion who signed with the Packers in free agency, was held out of Thursday’s practice with a groin injury.

“I wouldn’t call it an injury,” he said.

Instead, he called it a “tweak.”

“Nothing serious,” Jacobs said. “If we were playing today, I’d be playing. It’s nothing like that. I could’ve even practiced today but it’s more so trying to protect me from doing anything and making it worse. It’s Aug. 1. So, we’ve got time to figure it out.”

Jacobs wasn’t sure about whether he’d participate on Saturday.

“They’re trying to protect me from me just because I tend to like to practice hard,” he said. “I don’t know. I kind of feel like I’m going to feel the atmosphere and I’m going to want to do everything. We’ll see how it goes.”

Cooper, a second-round pick who is battling for a starting job, sustained what he called a “little hip injury” at practice on Wednesday.

“We’ll see. We’ll see,” he said when asked about his availability for Saturday.

Cooper is in a heated competition with veteran Eric Wilson for the third linebacker spot alongside Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie.

“I think I’m doing real good,” he said. “Just taking it day by day and trying to get better and doing what I can do. Some things happen, and you just try to push forward.”

Cornerback Carrington Valentine, who is trying to mount a challenge to Eric Stokes at cornerback, was out for a second consecutive day.

“I think we’re still kind of going through that right now, but certainly we’re going to be very cautious when it comes to those,” coach Matt LaFleur said before practice. “It’s unfortunately the price of doing business at times. You get into camp, they’re bound to happen sooner or later for somebody, and he’s been doing a lot of good things. He tried to power through it; it’s just that’s not something that you want to fight through usually.”

Four veterans got the day off: defensive ends Rashan Gary and Preston Smith, guard Elgton Jenkins and tight end Tyler Davis.

“Rest day’s good for me,” Smith said. “I guess the coaches decided to look out for us and give us a rest day. They do a great job of taking care of our bodies, from warming up to workouts to meeting times, and making sure that we’re well taken care of.”

Smith is the team’s oldest player at age 31, while Jenkins (2021), Gary (2022) and Davis (2023) have ACL injuries in their histories

“Days like this don’t come very often,” Gary said. “So, when they come, take full advantage of it, as I tried to do today. I’m not participating in practice, but just try and give tips to the young guys. Today they were taking heed. It was fun to watch.”

Gary and Smith are the starting defensive ends. In their place, Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbare got the first-team reps.

It’ll be Gary and Smith, as usual, when the No. 1 defense is on the field on Family Night.

“Every time you step in Lambeau, man, it’s a blessing,” Gary said. “Being able to have a practice in front of our fans and everybody, that energy, especially getting through camp. That’s going to give us a lot of energy to finish throughout the day and keep stacking our days for camp.”

Packers Injury Report

New injuries: RB Josh Jacobs (groin), CB Don Callas (hamstring), LB Edgerrin Cooper (hip).

Returned to practice: Nobody.

Old injuries:  CB Carrington Valentine (hamstring), G Donovan Jennings (knee), DE Deslin Alexandre (lower leg), DE Keshawn Banks (groin).

Also did not practice: C Josh Myers (personal), DE Rashan Gary (rest), DE Preston Smith (rest), TE Tyler Davis (rest) and G Elgton Jenkins (rest).

PUP:  TE Tucker Kraft (pectoral).
