సందీప్ కిషన్, దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్ హీరోహీరోయిన్ గా తెరకెక్కిన మూవీ మైఖేల్. కాగా ఈ రోజు రిలీజ్ అయిన ఈ చిత్రం ఎలా ఉందో సమీక్షలోకి వెళ్లి చూద్దాం.

మైఖేల్ (సందీప్ కిషన్) చిన్నప్పటి నుంచే తన తండ్రిని చంపాలనే కోరికతో గురునాథ్ (గౌతం మీనన్) అనే పెద్ద గ్యాంగ్ స్టర్ దగ్గరకు చేరతాడు. అక్కడ తన పనితనంతో గురునాథ్ కి బాగా దగ్గర అవుతాడు. ఐతే, గురునాథ్ పై హత్య ప్రయత్నం చేసిన వారిని చంపమని మైఖేల్ కి చెబుతాడు. ఈ క్రమంలో జరిగిన కొన్ని నాటకీయ పరిణామాల నేపథ్యంలో మైఖేల్ తీరా (దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్) కి దగ్గర అవుతాడు. ఆమెను ప్రేమిస్తాడు. దాంతో, గురునాథ్ చెప్పినట్టు చెయ్యడు. ఆ తర్వాత జరిగిన కొన్ని సంఘటనలు కారణంగా గురునాథ్ కి – మైఖేల్ కి మధ్య గ్యాప్ పెరుగుతుంది. అనంతరం మైఖేల్ ఏం చేశాడు ?, ఇంతకీ, మైఖేల్ తండ్రి ఎవరు ?, ఈ మధ్యలో మైఖేల్ కి సాయం చేసిన విజయ్ సేతుపతి పాత్ర ఏమిటి ? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

మైఖేల్ జీవితంలో జరిగిన పరిణామాలను, అలాగే తన తల్లికి అన్యాయం చేసిన వ్యక్తి పై పగ తీర్చుకునే క్రమాన్ని కొంతవరకు బాగానే ఎలివేట్ చేశారు. అదే విధంగా మైఖేల్ గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్‌గా ఎలా ఎదిగాడు అనే కోణంలో ఎమోషనల్ గా చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. మైఖేల్ పాత్రలో సందీప్ కిషన్ నటన ఆకట్టుకుంది. ముఖ్యంగా అతనిలోని ఆవేశం, ధైర్యసాహసాలు, అన్యాయం జరిగితే ఎదురుతిరిగే లక్షణాలను సందీప్ కిషన్ తన హావాబావాలలో బాగా పలికించాడు.

ఇక హీరోయిన్ గా నటించిన దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్ తన నటనతో పాటు అందంతోనూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. అలాగే వరలక్ష్మి శరత్‌కుమార్ బాగా నటించింది. అనసూయకి కీలక పాత్ర దొరికింది. విజయ్ సేతుపతి పాత్ర సినిమాకి ప్రత్యేక ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచింది. అలాగే గౌతం మీనన్, వరుణ్ సందేశ్, అయ్యప్ప శర్మ పర్మార్మెన్స్ లు కూడా బాగున్నాయి. అలాగే మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్రల పరిధి మేర బాగా నటించారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

మైఖేల్ కథలో డెప్త్ ఉన్నా.. సీన్స్ కన్ ఫ్యూజ్డ్ గా స్లోగా అండ్ రొటీన్ గా సాగాయి. పైగా మెయిన్ ప్లాట్ లోని మెయిన్ క్యారెక్టర్స్ మధ్య ప్రధాన కాన్ ఫ్లిక్ట్ సరిగ్గా కనెక్ట్ కాలేదు. అలాగే ఎమోషన్ కూడా ఇన్ వాల్వ్ అయ్యేలా లేదు. పంజా, మున్నా, ముఖ్యంగా కేజీఎఫ్ చిత్రాలకు కాపీలా సాగింది మైఖేల్ ప్లే. అసలు ఇలాంటి యాక్షన్ ఎమోషనల్ కాన్సెప్ట్ తీసుకున్నపుడు ఆ కాన్సెప్ట్ కి తగ్గట్టు సినిమాని ఆద్యంతం ఉత్కంఠ రేకెత్తిస్తూ ర‌క్తి కట్టేలా సినిమా సాగాలి.

అయితే, ఈ మైఖేల్ సినిమాలో అలాంటి అంశాలు మిస్ అయ్యాయి. అలాగే కొన్ని ఇన్సిడెంట్స్ మరీ సినిమాటిక్ గా అనిపిస్తాయి. అలాగే సెకండ్ హాఫ్ లో చాలా సన్నివేశాలు అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోవు. పైగా మైఖేల్ పాత్రను డిజైన్ చేసిన విధానం కూడా బాగాలేదు. దీనికి తోడు సినిమాలో ఇంట్రసింగ్ ప్లేను బిల్డ్ చేయలేకపోయారు. హీరో క్యారెక్టైజేషన్ ను ఇంకా ఎఫెక్టివ్ గా రాసుకోవాల్సింది.

ముఖ్యంగా పలు యాక్షన్ చిత్రాల తాలూకు సీన్స్ యాక్టివిటీస్ ఈ సినిమాలో ఎక్కువగా ఉండటం మైఖేల్ కి బాగా మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. పైగా కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో నాటకీయత ఎక్కువడంతో ఆ సీన్స్ లో సహజత్వం లోపించింది. ఓవరాల్ మైఖేల్ లో లాజిక్స్ కూడా వదిలేశారు.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

టెక్నికల్ గా చూసుకుంటే సినిమాలో సాంకేతిక విభాగం వర్క్ బాగానే ఉంది. సామ్ సిఎస్ సంగీతం సినిమాకు ప్లస్ ఆయింది. అదే విధంగా సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలుస్తోంది. కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో కెమెరామెన్ పనితనం చాలా బాగుంది. సినిమాలోని నిర్మాతలు భరత్ చౌదరి, పుస్కూర్ రామ్ మోహన్ రావు పాటించిన ప్రొడక్షన్ వాల్యూస్ బాగున్నాయి. అయితే దర్శకుడు రంజిత్ జయకోడి రచయితగా దర్శకుడిగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయారు.

యాక్షన్ ఎమోషనల్ డ్రామాగా వచ్చిన ఈ మైఖేల్ మూవీలో మెయిన్ పాయింట్ తో పాటు కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. ఐతే, స్క్రీన్ ప్లేలో ఇంట్రెస్ట్ మిస్ అవ్వడం, అలాగే ట్రీట్మెంట్ తో పాటు మెయిన్ క్యారెక్టైజేషన్స్ కూడా బలహీనంగా ఉండటం, పంజా, మున్నా, ముఖ్యంగా కేజీఎఫ్ వంటి చిత్రాలను ఎక్కువగా అనుకరించడం వంటి అంశాలు సినిమాకి బాగా మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. ఐతే, సినిమాలో సందీప్ కిషన్ నటన బాగుంది. మైఖేల్ పాత్ర తాలూకు కొన్ని ఎమోషన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ చిత్రంలో కొన్ని యాక్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ ప్రేక్షకులకు కనెక్ట్ అవుతాయి.

Michael Movie Review: టాలీవుడ్ హీరో సందీప్ కిషన్ నటించిన తాజా చిత్రం మైఖేల్. దివ్యాంశ కౌషిక్ హీరోయిన్‌గా చేసిన ఈ సినిమా శుక్రవారం ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. మరి ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉందో ఇప్పుడు చూద్దాం.

Michael Movie Review: టాలీవుడ్ యంగ్ హీరోల్లో పర్ఫార్మెన్స్ విషయంలో సందీప్ కిషన్ శైలి ఎంతో ప్రత్యేకం. నటన పరంగా తనకంటూ ఓ మార్కును ఏర్పాటు చేసుకున్న ఈ యువ హీరోకు సరైన హిట్ పడే చాలా రోజులే అయింది. కెరీర్ ఆరంభంలో ప్రస్థానం, వెంకటాద్రి ఎక్స్ ప్రెస్ లాంటి విజయాలను సొంతం చేసుకున్న ఇతడు.. ఓ మంచి మాస్ హిట్ కోసం చాలా రోజులుగా చూస్తున్నాడు. ప్రస్తుతం అతడు నటించిన మైఖేల్ చిత్రం మాస్ యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లర్ జోన్‌లో తెరకెక్కింది. పాన్ఇండియా స్థాయిలో విడుదలైన ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉందో ఇప్పుడు చూద్దాం.

మైఖేల్(సందీప్ కిషన్) అనాథగా పెరుగుతాడు. తల్లిని మోసం చేసిన తండ్రిని చంపడమే లక్ష్యంగా ముంబయిలో అడుగుపెడతాడు. అప్పటికే అక్కడ పెద్ద డాన్‌గా ఎదిగిన గురునాథ్(గౌతమ్ మీనన్) అతడిని చేరదీస్తాడు. రెండు సార్లు గురు ప్రాణం కాపాడి అతడి అనుచరుడిగా మారతాడు. గురుకు మైఖేల్‌కు దగ్గర కావడం అతడి భార్య చారు(అనసూయ), కుమారుడు అమర్ నాథ్‌(వరుణ్ సందేశ్)కు నచ్చదు. ఇదిలా ఉండగా గురుపై దాడి చేసిన ఆరుగురును చంపేందుకు మైఖేల్‌ను రంగంలోకి దింపుతాడు. ఒక్కొక్కరిని చంపుకుంటూ చివరి వ్యక్తి కోసం మైఖేల్ దిల్లీకి చేరతాడు. అక్కడ తీర(దివ్యాంశ కౌషిక్) ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. మరి ఈ తీర ఎవరు? గురునాథ్‌ను చంపేందుకు ప్రయత్నించిన ఆరో వ్యక్తి ఎవరు? బాస్ అప్పగించిన పని మైఖేల్ పూర్తి చేశాడా? లాంటి విషయాలు తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.

ఎలా ఉందంటే..

అనాథగా పెరిగిన ఓ కుర్రాడిని ఓ డాన్ కింద చేరి ఒకానొక దశలో అతడికే ఎదురు తిరిగి మధ్యలో ఓ ఫ్లాష్ బ్యాక్ ఎపిసోడ్, చివర్లో ఓ ట్విస్ట్, ఫైట్. తెలుగు సినిమాల్లో ఇలాంటి తరహా కథలు కొత్తేమి కాదు. బాలు నుంచి పంజా వరకు చాలా సినిమాల్లో ఈ పోకడలు కనిపిస్తాయి. ఇదే కాన్సెప్టుకు తల్లి సెంటిమెంటుతో కేజీఎఫ్ రికార్డుల వర్షాన్ని కురిపించింది. మైఖేల్ కూడా కేజీఎఫ్ మాదిరిగానే అనిపిస్తుంది. చాలా చోట్ల కేజీఎఫ్‌ స్ఫూర్తి పొందిన సీన్లు కనిపిస్తాయి. ఆ సినిమాను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకునే దర్శకుడు రంజిత్ మైఖేల్ కథను రాసుకున్నాడేమో అనిపిస్తుంది.

90ల నేపథ్యం, మాఫియా కథ, విజువల్స్, ఫైట్స్, ఎలివేషన్లు ఇలా మొత్తం కేజీఎఫ్ అనుకరణలు చాలానే కనిపిస్తాయి. ఇక ఎలివేషన్ల విషయానికొస్తే ఓ రేంజ్‌లో ఉన్నాయి. కొన్ని సార్లు మరీ శృతి మించాయని కూడా అనిపిస్తుంది. కథనంలో అవసరాన్ని బట్టి హీరో ఎలివేషన్ ఉంటే బాగా వర్కౌట్ అవుతుంది. కానీ ఇక్కడ మాత్రం మిస్ ఫైర్ అయిందనే చెప్పాలి. ప్రతి ప్రతి నిమిషాలకు ఓ సారి హీరో ఫైట్లు చేయడం, గన్ పట్టుకుని పేల్చడం లాంటి జిమ్మిక్కుల వల్ల ప్రేక్షకులకు విసుకు వస్తుంది. హీరోయిజాన్ని ఆడియెన్స్ ఫీలవ్వాలి కానీ.. బలవంతంగా చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేయకూడదు. అలా చేస్తే మొదటికే మోసం వస్తుంది. మైఖేల్ విషయంలోనూ అదే జరిగింది. హీరో పాత్రను, సీన్లను స్టైలిష్‌గా ప్రెజెంట్ చేయాలనే దర్శకుడు చూశాడే తప్ప.. కథ, కథనంలో దృష్టిపెట్టలేదు.

గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్ సినిమాల్లో దాదాపు ప్లాట్ ఒకేలా ఉంటుంది. కానీ కథ, కథనాల్లో వైవిధ్యం ఉంటే ఆ సినిమాలు ఎక్కడికో వెళ్తాయి. మైఖేల్ మాత్రం ఈ విషయంలో అంచనాలను అందుకోలేదనే చెప్పాలి. ఆరంభ సన్నివేశాలతో మైఖేల్ పాత్ర నుంచి ప్రేక్షకులు డిస్ కనెక్ట్ అయిపోతారు. సాగే కొద్ది ప్రేక్షకుల సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెడుతుంది. పోనీ విజయ్ సేతుపతి పాత్రతోనైనా ఆడియెన్స్ ఎగ్జయిట్ అవుతారా? అంటే అది లేదు. సేతుపతి కనిపించిన రెండు, మూడు సన్నివేశాలు ఫర్వాలేదనిపించినా.. అప్పటికే ఆలస్యమవుతుంది.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే..

మైఖేల్ పాత్ర కోసం సందీప్ కిషన్ పడిన కష్టం తెలుస్తుంది. చూసేందుకు చాలా స్టైలిష్‌గా ఉన్నాడు. తన లుక్‌పై బాగానే దృష్టిపెట్టాడు. నటన పరంగా కూడా ఫర్వాలేదనిపిస్తాడు. అయితే దీని వల్ల అతడికి పెద్దగా ఒరిగిందేమిలేదనే చెప్పాలి. హీరోయిన్ దివ్యాంశ కౌషిక్ పాత్ర నామమాత్రమే. అయితే ఈ ముద్దుగుమ్మ చాలా క్యూట్‌గా కనిపిచింది. విజయ్ సేతుపతి కనిపించిన కాసేపు తన స్క్రీన్ ప్రెజెన్స్‌తో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. ఇక డాన్‌గా కనిపించిన గౌతమ్ మీనన్ ఫర్వాలేదనిపించాడు. ఆయనతో మంచి ప్రతినాయకుడి పాత్ర చేయించవచ్చు. కానీ దర్శకుడు గౌతమ్‌ను పెద్దగా వాడుకోలేదనే అనిపిస్తుంది. వరలక్ష్మీ శరత్ కుమార్ చిన్నపాత్రలో కనిపించింది. అనసూయ పాత్ర సాధారణంగా ఉంటుంది.

సాంకేతిక వర్గం..

ఈ సినిమా నిర్మాణ విలువలు ఉన్నతంగా ఉన్నాయి. మంచి ఔట్ పుట్‌ కోసం మేకర్స్ బాగానే ఖర్చు పెట్టారు. బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ సంగీతం పరంగా శ్యామ్ సీఎస్ అదరగొట్టాడు. హీరోయిజాన్ని ఎలివేట్ చేయడానికి బాగానే కష్టపడ్డాడు. కానీ ఆ బిల్డప్‌కు, సన్నివేశాల్లో ఉన్న కంటెంట్‌కు సంబంధం ఉండదు. ఫలితంగా పెద్దగా రుచించకపోవచ్చు. అతడి పాటలు బాగున్నాయి. కెమెరామెన్ కిరణ్ కౌషిక్ పనితనం కనిపిస్తుంది. విజువల్స్ ఉన్నతంగా ఉంది. ఇక దర్శకుడు రంజిత్ జయకోడి మాత్రం ఈ సినిమా పూర్తిగా విఫలమయ్యాడు. అతడి టేకింగ్ స్టైలిష్‌గా ఉంది తప్పా.. మిగిలిన ఏ విభాగాల్లోనూ మెప్పించలేకపోయాడు. కథలో బలం లేకపోవడం ఇందులో ప్రధాన లోపం. ఇంత పెద్ద తారాగణం ఉన్నప్పటికీ దర్శకుడు వారిని వినియోగించుకోలేదనే అనిపిస్తుంది.

చివరగా - మైఖేల్.. ఎలివేషన్ తప్పా.. ఎమోషన్ లేదు

Sundeep Kishan attempted a pan-Indian project with "Michael" after appearing in many bilingual films. It piqued people's interest.

Let's see if Sundeep Kishan's optimism paid off or not.

Story: It's the mid-'90s, and a young man named Michael has decided to kill his father. Gurunath (Gautam Menon), impressed by the boy's bravery, takes him under his wing. As an adult, the boy proves to be Gurunath's most reliable ally and protector.

When Gurunath’s son (Varun Sandesh) sees how much faith his father has placed in Michael (Sundeep Kishan), he becomes envious.

Gurunath eventually orders Michael to kill Theera (Divyansha Kaushik) and her father in Delhi. But Michael falls for her charm, and this sets off a chain reaction of events in which he is never quite sure who is on his side.

Artistes’ Performances: To look the part, Sundeep Kishan slimmed down. His Michael persona is spot on; he has less to say and more to do with action. The transformation of Sundeep Kishan is good.

Divyansha Kaushik is stunning at first, but her performance fizzles out later on. Vijay Sethupathi plays a small part that serves primarily to increase the film's star power.

Gautam Menon is miscast as a don. Varun Sandesh's portrayal of the jealous son is perfect.

Technical Excellence: The technical aspects of the film are excellent. The cinematography is superb, and the colour palette complements the theme perfectly. Besides the cinematography, the background music score is top-notch. The production values are first rate.

The editing department, however, ruined the mood due to the film's tedious pacing and lengthy runtime.

Analysis Similar to the opening of "KGF," in which a narrator who witnessed the entire event relates it in detail, "Michael" also begins with a narrator recounting the events he witnessed.

The story opens with the hero in his early years. It takes place in the middle of the 1990s. The visuals, music, and storyline all bring to mind "KGF" and "Vikram" films.

Ayyappa Sharma, who provides the voiceover for "Michael," effectively establishes the tone at the outset. Even though the sequences move at a painfully slow pace, the first interaction between Sundeep Kishan and Gautam Menon, the romantic track between Sundeep Kishan and the heroine Divyansha, and the first twist are all quite interesting.

Ranjit Jeyakodi, the film's director, uses the technique of withholding information and then revealing it in the film's climax. The film is interesting at first, but it quickly becomes tedious. It's easy to see that the director has lost control after a point.

This whole segment with Vijay Sethupathi and Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar, and the subsequent fight scenes, are incredibly tedious. By the introduction of Vijay Sethupathi, it becomes clear that the director lost the plot.

Also, with all this foreshadowing, we anticipate a surprising turn of events. But in the end, it's obvious that it's just a rehash of the "Munna" movie starring Prabhas.

So much buildup for a regular revenge drama!

It would have been different if the director had placed as much emphasis on the story as he did on the style. However, "Micheal" devolves into a futile attempt to tell a standard revenge drama in a stylized manner.

Overall, "Michael" is another example of a film that is more about style than substance. It's a gangster story. Sundeep's makeover, technical prowess, and slick visuals don't add much to the film, which suffers from a lacklustre narration.

‘Michael’ movie review: A labour of love that does not soar

Sundeep kishan reinvents himself in this moody period gangster drama by director ranjit jeyakodi that has a lot going for it, yet falls short of finding its strong voice.

Some films instantly draw viewers into their world and the many characters that inhabit it. Some films keep viewers at an arm’s length, unmoved by what is happening on screen. And then there are movies that are midway between the two possibilities. Michael , the Telugu-Tamil gangster drama that is also dubbed in Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi and starring an impressive Sundeep Kishan, falls in the third category. It is a labour of love that benefits hugely from an ace technical team that adds to the mood of the drama, and yet, towards the end, Michael falls short of rising to its potential. 

The story unfolds over different time periods — the 1980s and 90s but is largely anchored in the mid-1990s. The drama is set in Mumbai and Delhi; we learn about the titular character from the point of view of Swamy (Ayyappa Sharma) and this portion is curiously captioned ‘after the climax’. We first see Michael as a young lad in a chapter captioned ‘before the beginning’ — before he became a gangster.

The young Michael comes across as a brooding boy who can hide his emotions and not shy away from brutal violence. His quest will involve a bloodbath. There will be a backstory of his mother, as indicated by a photograph and a few of her possessions he holds on to.

In the 90s, however, Michael wins the trust of Gurunath (Gautham Menon), an underworld gangster. Things do not go as planned when Michael is tasked with killing a girl and her father.

Ranjit doffs his hat to The Godfather, John Wick franchise and several gangster dramas. He is aware that he is not reinventing the wheel, and manages to create a make-believe world with intriguing characters in an atmosphere that adds a lot to the drama. 

Cinematographer Kiran Koushik’s palette is filled with warm tones, often revelling in deep browns and blacks. Gandhi Nadikudikar’s production design recreates the period setting with cars, landline telephones and accessories of the time. The action sequences choreographed by Dinesh Kasi appear raw and real.

When you strip Michael down to the bare bones, it is a revenge drama of a man who hunts with fire in his eyes. Several visual references try to amp up the flames, symbolically.

The layers peel slowly to reveal the true colours of some principal characters. Several of them, including Michael, are neither stark white nor black. A few are sinister from the word go but do not add to the film despite all the aura around them; like Anasuya Bharadwaj and Varun Sandesh’s characters. Anasuya is no stranger to a gangster drama (Pushpa - the rise) and does her best in the role assigned to her, as a scheming woman who knows to play her cards. Varun amps it up to fit into an over-the-top character fairly well. 

However, the film belongs to Sundeep Kishan. As Michael, he speaks very little and conveys the character’s mystery and menace through his body language that stays firmly on cue. The film’s trailer indicated that this is a story of a man who fought and lost in love. When Michael meets Theera (Divyansha Kaushik), an unusual romance brews. She keeps reminding him not to fall for her and that she will break his heart. There is another love story at the heart of Michael that is revealed later. 

In the pre-intermission portions, when one of the pivotal character’s true colours is revealed, it is an indication that the film has a lot more cards to reveal. All of them come out swiftly towards the last 10-15 minutes. Since the climax shoulders the weight of the story, the portions immediately post-interval come across as middling and even boring. 

A long-drawn voiceover spells out how a character can return from oblivion. It goes on and on and after a point, I wanted to say, please move ahead. 

The welcome addition to Michael is the presence of Vijay Sethupathi and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as a couple full of spunk who can instil courage in a bruised younger couple and tell them, ‘leave it to us’. 

Sundeep’s performance is the spine of Michael; he owns his part and looks like a man who is hungry and possessed. Divyansha gets a role that requires her to appear mysterious and enigmatic and she makes it appear believable. For those who have watched Gautham Menon in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, his portrayal of evil will not come as a surprise. He plays the gangster warlord with a poker face and Ranjit tries to add to his charisma by making him read books such as The Godfather, The Old Man and The Sea and Macbeth . Does all this add to the intrigue? Not quite. 

An asset to the film is the music by Sam CS. For instance, take Divyansha’s introduction sequence that’s heavy on guitar and ends with her playing one after a dance performance. The music does the talking, even as Michael is reminded of his own mother’s photograph with a guitar. Appreciably, the women of Michael are no pushovers.

The story puts forth several questions concerning forgiveness and redemption. Some of the dialogues are sharply written. However, the gangster drama has a been-there-seen-that aura that robs the film of its sheen. 

Michael is a labour of love that, at times, feels too laboured and tries hard to impress. Despite an earnest effort by its actors and the technical team, the film falls short of finding its own strong voice in the melee of gangster dramas we have seen in the last decade.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

మైఖేల్ జీవితంలో జరిగిన పరిణామాలను, అలాగే తన తల్లికి అన్యాయం చేసిన వ్యక్తి పై పగ తీర్చుకునే క్రమాన్ని కొంతవరకు బాగానే ఎలివేట్ చేశారు. అదే విధంగా మైఖేల్ గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్‌గా ఎలా ఎదిగాడు అనే కోణంలో ఎమోషనల్ గా చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. మైఖేల్ పాత్రలో సందీప్ కిషన్ నటన ఆకట్టుకుంది. ముఖ్యంగా అతనిలోని ఆవేశం, ధైర్యసాహసాలు, అన్యాయం జరిగితే ఎదురుతిరిగే లక్షణాలను సందీప్ కిషన్ తన హావాబావాలలో బాగా పలికించాడు.

ఇక హీరోయిన్ గా నటించిన దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్ తన నటనతో పాటు అందంతోనూ ఆకట్టుకుంది. అలాగే వరలక్ష్మి శరత్‌కుమార్ బాగా నటించింది. అనసూయకి కీలక పాత్ర దొరికింది. విజయ్ సేతుపతి పాత్ర సినిమాకి ప్రత్యేక ఆకర్షణగా నిలిచింది. అలాగే గౌతం మీనన్, వరుణ్ సందేశ్, అయ్యప్ప శర్మ పర్మార్మెన్స్ లు కూడా బాగున్నాయి. అలాగే మిగిలిన నటీనటులు కూడా తమ పాత్రల పరిధి మేర బాగా నటించారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

మైఖేల్ కథలో డెప్త్ ఉన్నా.. సీన్స్ కన్ ఫ్యూజ్డ్ గా స్లోగా అండ్ రొటీన్ గా సాగాయి. పైగా మెయిన్ ప్లాట్ లోని మెయిన్ క్యారెక్టర్స్ మధ్య ప్రధాన కాన్ ఫ్లిక్ట్ సరిగ్గా కనెక్ట్ కాలేదు. అలాగే ఎమోషన్ కూడా ఇన్ వాల్వ్ అయ్యేలా లేదు. పంజా, మున్నా, ముఖ్యంగా కేజీఎఫ్ చిత్రాలకు కాపీలా సాగింది మైఖేల్ ప్లే. అసలు ఇలాంటి యాక్షన్ ఎమోషనల్ కాన్సెప్ట్ తీసుకున్నపుడు ఆ కాన్సెప్ట్ కి తగ్గట్టు సినిమాని ఆద్యంతం ఉత్కంఠ రేకెత్తిస్తూ ర‌క్తి కట్టేలా సినిమా సాగాలి.

అయితే, ఈ మైఖేల్ సినిమాలో అలాంటి అంశాలు మిస్ అయ్యాయి. అలాగే కొన్ని ఇన్సిడెంట్స్ మరీ సినిమాటిక్ గా అనిపిస్తాయి. అలాగే సెకండ్ హాఫ్ లో చాలా సన్నివేశాలు అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోవు. పైగా మైఖేల్ పాత్రను డిజైన్ చేసిన విధానం కూడా బాగాలేదు. దీనికి తోడు సినిమాలో ఇంట్రసింగ్ ప్లేను బిల్డ్ చేయలేకపోయారు. హీరో క్యారెక్టైజేషన్ ను ఇంకా ఎఫెక్టివ్ గా రాసుకోవాల్సింది.

ముఖ్యంగా పలు యాక్షన్ చిత్రాల తాలూకు సీన్స్ యాక్టివిటీస్ ఈ సినిమాలో ఎక్కువగా ఉండటం మైఖేల్ కి బాగా మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. పైగా కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో నాటకీయత ఎక్కువడంతో ఆ సీన్స్ లో సహజత్వం లోపించింది. ఓవరాల్ మైఖేల్ లో లాజిక్స్ కూడా వదిలేశారు.

సాంకేతిక విభాగం :

టెక్నికల్ గా చూసుకుంటే సినిమాలో సాంకేతిక విభాగం వర్క్ బాగానే ఉంది. సామ్ సిఎస్ సంగీతం సినిమాకు ప్లస్ ఆయింది. అదే విధంగా సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ సినిమాకే హైలెట్ గా నిలుస్తోంది. కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాల్లో కెమెరామెన్ పనితనం చాలా బాగుంది. సినిమాలోని నిర్మాతలు భరత్ చౌదరి, పుస్కూర్ రామ్ మోహన్ రావు పాటించిన ప్రొడక్షన్ వాల్యూస్ బాగున్నాయి. అయితే దర్శకుడు రంజిత్ జయకోడి రచయితగా దర్శకుడిగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయారు.

యాక్షన్ ఎమోషనల్ డ్రామాగా వచ్చిన ఈ మైఖేల్ మూవీలో మెయిన్ పాయింట్ తో పాటు కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. ఐతే, స్క్రీన్ ప్లేలో ఇంట్రెస్ట్ మిస్ అవ్వడం, అలాగే ట్రీట్మెంట్ తో పాటు మెయిన్ క్యారెక్టైజేషన్స్ కూడా బలహీనంగా ఉండటం, పంజా, మున్నా, ముఖ్యంగా కేజీఎఫ్ వంటి చిత్రాలను ఎక్కువగా అనుకరించడం వంటి అంశాలు సినిమాకి బాగా మైనస్ అయ్యాయి. ఐతే, సినిమాలో సందీప్ కిషన్ నటన బాగుంది. మైఖేల్ పాత్ర తాలూకు కొన్ని ఎమోషన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. ఓవరాల్ గా ఈ చిత్రంలో కొన్ని యాక్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్స్ ప్రేక్షకులకు కనెక్ట్ అవుతాయి.

Michael review: A stylish action drama that is bogged down by déjà vu

Ranjit Jeyakodi’s directorial is successful in giving a rustic makeover to Sundeep Kishan but more originality would have made it memorable.

Gangster films are one of the most clichéd genres in the history of Cinema, across all languages. It has been attempted in different forms, starting from the classic Godfather series directed by Francis Ford Coppola. There is hardly anything new left to explore.

However, a well-made gangster film is always exciting to watch, provided the director can bring a different dimension within the familiar territory.

Ranjit Jeyakodi’s Michael is well-mounted with a lot of technical finesse. But all that sheen is not enough to cover a weak storyline. At more than one place it looks like he wanted to make another KGF .

Michael is set in Mumbai in the 90s. Sundeep Kishan plays an orphan (titular role) who grows up in Mumbai.

Gurunath (Gautham Vasudev Menon) is a leading gangster in Mumbai and Michael saves Gurunath from his enemies, not once but twice. Gurunath treats Michael as his son, much to the disdain of his real son Amarnath (Varun Sandesh).

Michael quickly climbs up the ladder and soon becomes a vital cog in the circle of Gurunath. Gurunath even hands over the business of a bar to him. This bar is frequently visited by some of the worst gangs in Mumbai.

Things take a turn when Michael is assigned a huge responsibility. Gurunath gives him the task of finding out the last living member of his rival gang who wants him dead.

Michael heads to Delhi and his path crosses with that of Theera (Divyansha Kaushik). He gets close to her with a particular purpose and ends up falling in love with her, despite Theera’s repeated warnings.

However, Amarnath, who is meanwhile burning with jealousy, has his plans. The rest of the story looks at multiple things.

Is Michael successful in his mission? But more importantly what is the true motive of Michael in saving Gurunath?

The performances

Sundeep Kishan is someone who is known for a particular image. But, with Michael , the actor is successful in showing a different side of himself.

As Michael, he doesn’t speak a lot but is super effective in conveying the character’s mystery and menace through his body language.

Gautham Vasudev Menon makes for a classy antagonist. There is a certain swagger that the filmmaker-actor brings to the table.

Anasuya Bhardwaj’s role is an extension of what she did in Pushpa . But still, she is effective in conveying the anguish of a mother who has lost her son.

Vijay Sethupati and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar appear midway through the second half. They have extended cameos and the presence of these two momentarily lifts the second half.

In spite of the familiar terrain, there is no denying that Michael starts well. The introduction of Sundeep Kishan and his makeover as an action hero is wonderful to watch.

Also, the interaction between Michael and Gurunath is peppered with some wonderful lines.

There are certain scenes where Gurunath reads lines books from such as “ Macbeth ” and “ The Godfather ”. This adds a certain layer to the role of Gurunath.

Even Varun Sandesh’s hammy portrayal of a jealous son keeps the audience invested.

The initial portions between Michael and Theera have a certain intrigue about them.

The romantic portions start on an unusual note and we are constantly guessing about the real motivations of Theera. But the film soon starts slipping and never really recovers.

After a point, Theera spends most of her time crying. But at no point does the audiences feel any emotional connection with her.

A major reason for that is weak writing. As a result, Theera ends up being just a prop in the larger scheme of things.

The technical crafts

The second half, in particular, tests the audience’s patience with endless action scenes.

The big reveal in the climax isn’t hard to guess as it is an amalgamation of Yash’s KGF films and Prabhas-starrer Munna .

There is also a long-drawn voiceover at the end which goes on and on.

The action scenes choreographed by Dinesh Kasi are definitely effective when viewed in isolation. But when viewed in the context of the film, they feel never-ending, particularly in the second half.

Technically, the film comes across as a polished product.

The cinematography by Kiran Koushik is excellent. Sam CS’s background score and music are also in perfect sync. They hugely contribute to elevating the scenes even though the script lets the film down.

The 90s of Mumbai have also been successfully recreated.

This Michael has the required style and swagger but the missing element is substance!

Michael Review: Sundeep Kishan Stars in a Wannabe Mix of 'Pulp Fiction' & 'KGF'

'michael' is a telugu-tamil gangster drama that is also dubbed in hindi, kannada, and malayalam., 'michael' review: sundeep kishan stars in a wannabe mix of 'pulp fiction'& 'kgf'.

Presented by Vikram fame Lokesh Kanagaraj , Michael is directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi and set in the streets of Mumbai. The story revolves around Michael (Sundeep Kishan), an orphaned kid who raises himself against all odds to become a gangster.

But why does he want to conquer the underworld? Why did he choose blood and gore over a simple life? Is he here to settle a score? These are some of the questions the film intends to answer.

Like Rocky in KGF , Michael is driven by the most important woman in his life—his mother. Her words become his purpose. Meanwhile, Michael saves a leading don, Gurunath ( Gautham Vasudev Menon ), not once but twice. Gurunath soon becomes his godfather and treats him like his own son.

Michael is a class apart with its excellent visuals and nuanced colour grading. Kiran Koushik’s brilliant cinematography simply amps up the mood of the film.

With Pulp Fiction -like rustic sequences that are aesthetically shot, every frame in the film screams exquisiteness.

The action sequences in this revenge drama are choreographed in such a way that they perfectly let you experience the adrenaline rush.

While the film is so obsessed with style, one cannot help but notice that it loses focus on its screenplay. It lacks novelty in its narration. It is good but feels way too simple. The twists and turns toward the climax get predictable.

Also, for a bilingual film, it neither feels like a Tamil original nor does it do justice to the Telugu landscape. The mismatched dialogue delivery keeps you from feeling connected with the film, and moreover, the plot is as generic as it can get, jumping across Bombay and Delhi without any context as to why it is happening.

The heroine in the film keeps saying, "Don’t fall for me; I will break your heart." I just felt the director indirectly spoke about the film to the audience.

Knowing that this is filmmaker Ranjit Jeyakodi's follow-up to his successful Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raaniyum , starring Sundeep Kishan and Gautham Vasudev Menon, as well as some interesting cameos by Vijay Sethupathi and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar , I fell for Michael , and it did break my heart.

Michael is running in cinemas now.

కథేంటంటే.. మైఖేల్‌(సందీప్‌ కిషన్‌) చిన్నప్పుడే తల్లి చనిపోవడంతో అనాథలా పెరుగుతాడు. పదేళ్ల వయసులో ముంబైలోనే అతి పెద్ద డాన్‌గా చలామణి అవుతున్న గురునాథ్‌(గౌతమ్‌ మీనన్‌)కు దగ్గరవుతాడు. రెండు సార్లు అతని ప్రాణాలు కాపాడడంతో మైఖేల్‌ని తన ప్రధాన అనుచరుడిగా నియమించుకుంటాడు. అయితే ఇది గురునాథ్‌ భార్య చారు(అనసూయ), కొడుకు అమర్‌ నాథ్‌(వరుణ్‌ సందేశ్‌)కు నచ్చదు. కొడుకు ఇవ్వాల్సిన ప్రాధాన్యత ఇవ్వడం లేదనే కోపం ఇద్దరికీ ఉంటుంది. మరోవైపు తనపై దాడి చేసిన ఆరుగురిలో ఐదుగురిని దారుణంగా చంపేస్తాడు గురునాథ్‌.

మిగిలిన ఒక్కడు ఢిల్లీలో ఉన్నట్లు తెలుసుకొని అతన్ని చంపే బాధ్యత మైఖేల్‌కి ఇస్తాడు. ఢిల్లీ వెళ్లి మైఖేల్‌ ..అక్కడ తీర(దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్‌)తో ప్రేమలో పడతాడు. అసలు తీర ఎవరు?     గురునాథ్‌ని చంపడానికి ప్లాన్‌ చేసిన ఆరో వ్యక్తి ఎవరు? బాస్‌ అప్పగించిన పనిని మైఖేల్‌ పూర్తి చేశాడా లేదా? గురునాథ్‌కు, మైఖేల్‌కు ఉన్న సంబంధం ఏంటి? ఈ కథలో విజయ్‌ సేతుపతి, వరలక్ష్మీల పాత్ర ఏంటి అనేది తెరపై చూడాల్సిందే. 

ఎలా ఉందంటే..  అనాథలా పెరిగే ఓ కుర్రాడు ఓ పెద్ద డాన్‌ని దగ్గరవ్వడం... ప్రధాన అనుచరుడిగా ఉంటూ ఒకనొక దశలో అతనికే ఎదురు తిరుగుతాడు. తర్వాత ఒక ఫ్లాష్‌ బ్యాక్‌.. చివర్లో ఓ ట్విస్ట్‌... ఈ తరహా కథలు తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకులకు కొత్తేమి కాదు. ఇదే కాన్సెఫ్ట్‌కి మదర్‌ సెంటిమెంట్‌ జోడించి తెరకెక్కించిన కేజీయఫ్‌ చిత్రం రికార్డులు సృష్టించింది. బహుశా ఈ చిత్రాన్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొనే మైఖేల్‌ కథను అల్లుకున్నాడేమో దర్శకుడు రంజిత్‌ జయకొడి.

కేజీయఫ్‌ తరహాలోనే హీరో గురించి ఓ వ్యక్తి వాయిస్‌ ఓవర్‌ ఇవ్వడం.. పెద్ద పెద్ద డైలాగ్స్‌..ఎలివేషన్స్‌తో సినిమాను ప్రారంభించాడు. అయితే ఇవన్నీ చెప్పుకోవడానికి బాగానే ఉన్నా.. కేజీయఫ్‌ తరహాలో తెరపై పండలేదు. పైగా అతి చేశారనే భావనే కలుగుతుంది తప్పా.. ఎక్కడా వావ్‌ మూమెంట్స్‌ ఉండవు. సినిమా చూసినంత సేపు కేజీయఫ్‌, పంజా, బాలు చిత్రాల తాలుకు సీన్స్‌ గుర్తుకు వస్తాయి. కథ, కథనంలో కొత్తదనం ఉండదు. రెట్రో స్టైల్లో సినిమాను తెరకెక్కించారు. విజువ‌ల్స్ ప‌రంగా, యాక్ష‌న్ స‌న్నివేశాల‌ను తెర‌కెక్కించే సంద‌ర్భంలోనూ ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు హ్యండిల్ చేసిన ప‌ద్ధ‌తి ఆక‌ట్టుకుంటుంది. విజయ్‌ సేతుపతి, వరలక్ష్మీ శరత్‌ కుమార్‌ లాంటి స్టార్స్‌ని సరిగా వాడుకోలేకపోయారు. సినిమా నిడివి కూడా ఎక్కువైన ఫీలింగ్ ఉంటుంది. గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్ సినిమాలు ఇష్టపడేవారికి మైఖేల్‌ నచ్చే అవకాశం ఉంది. 

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే..  మైఖేల్‌ పాత్ర కోసం సందీప్‌ చాలా కష్టపడ్డాడు. ఆ కష్టమంతా తెరపై కనపడింది. మైఖేల్ పాత్రకు సందీప్ కిషన్‌ సాధ్యం అయినంత వరకు న్యాయం చేసేందుకు ప్రయత్నించాడు. ముఖ్యంగా యాక్షన్‌ సీక్వెన్స్ లో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. నటుడిగా సందీప్ కిషన్‌ని ఒక మెట్టు ఎక్కించే సినిమా ఇది. ఇందులో గౌతమ్‌ మీనన్‌ చాలా ప్రాధాన్యత ఉన్న పాత్రను పోషించాడు. గ్యాంగ్‌స్టర్‌ గురునాథ్‌ పాత్రలో ఆయన ఒదిగిపోయాడు. తీర పాత్రకు దివ్యాంశ కౌశిక్ న్యాయం చేసింది. 

నెగిటివ్ షేడ్ ఉన్న అమర్‌నాథ్‌ పాత్రలో వరుణ్‌ సందేశ్‌ తనలోని మరో కోణాన్ని చూపించాడు.సెకండాఫ్‌లో వ‌చ్చే విజ‌య్ సేతుప‌తి, వ‌ర‌ల‌క్ష్మి శ‌ర‌త్ కుమార్ తమ పాత్రల పరిధిమేర చక్కగా నటించారు. గురునాథ్‌ భార్య చారుగా అనసూయ తన పాత్ర పరిధిమేర చక్కగా నటించారు. ఇక సాంకేతిక విషయానికొస్తే.. శ్యామ్‌ సీఎస్‌ సంగీతం పర్వాలేదు. కొన్ని సన్నివేశాల్లో నేపథ్య సంగీతం చాలా ఫ్రెష్‌గా ఉంటుంది.సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. నిర్మాణ విలువలు సినిమా స్థాయికి తగ్గట్లు ఉన్నతంగా ఉన్నాయి.

Michael Telugu Movie review

Sandeep Kishan, Vijay Sethupathi and Vasudev Menon’s gangster drama Michael got released today. Michael is the first big-budget film for Sandeep Kishan and the producers have believed in the story rather than the hero and pooled money on this. Let us have a look at Michael’s review:

Michael is in the shades of 90’s. A ten-year-old boy Michael (Sandeep Kishan) saves Mumbai Gangster Gurunadh (Gautam Vasudev Menon) from an attack and he starts living with him. Guru is so dependent on Michael rather than his son Amarnath (Varun Sandesh). Guru assigns a task to Michael to kill Teera (Divyansha Kaushik) and her father Ratnakar (Avinash Kuruvella), who lives in Delhi. The story behind Michael and Vijay Sethupathi’s role and Michael’s link with Ratnakar is the story plot. Analysis:

Michael is an old school story. KGF shades are seen in the film at the time of projecting the roles, but nowhere the screenplay sounds convincing because of the highly elevated charecters. Director misses creating not even a single exciting moment on screen. There are plenty of serious talks and needless repetitive scenes. Michael has flavours of KGF, Godfather, Vikram and many more gangster films. A misleading act of the director while projecting Michael’s character impacts the movie big time. Director Ranjith Jeykodi’s work lacks freshness in the film. The elevation screens for each character are only saving factors. Sandeep Kishan was portrayed neatly. Vijay Sethupathi’s role is strong, but the dull screenplay is a big demerit.

Screenplay is poor and the lengthy runtime tests the patience of the audience. With a bunch of artists in the film, the director failed to use them. Lack of emotional attachment is also one of the minuses.

Performance:

Very first thing to talk about in the film is Sandeep Kishan. He has done so much hard work for the film and that is projected on screen. Action scenes are well-directed. Vijay Sethupathi and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar are impressive from their side, but they don’t have much screen time for performance. Anasuya Bharadwaj had done a very small role. Gautham Vasudev Menon has come out with the full-length role as a Mumbai gangster. He has done his part quite well, but his monotonous action is boring. Divyansha Kaushik is stylish and the chemistry between the lead pair is good.

Background score and visuals are top-notch. Production values are good. Michael is definitely a stylish gangster drama. But with the poor writings of director Ranjith, the movie will not impress the audience.

Verdict: Michael is a stylish film with bad screenplay and writing. It would end up as a disappointment.

Actor Sundeep Kishan’s latest movie, Michael, which has been making a lot of noise, has finally been released today. The trailer showed a lot of promise, and let’s see how the film has turned out to be.

Michael is a young boy raised by a gangster in Mumbai. Michael has one goal in life, towards which he is focused at all times. Michael also has a past that very few know about. What is the past and what is Michael’s goal in his life, form the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Sundeep Kishan is good in his part, with his action sequences especially standing out. Without doubt, the actor has given his best performance to date in Michael, and has reinvented himself thoroughly with Michael. Despite his very honest and no holds barred performance, Michael doesn’t seem to have the substance to give him his much-needed break.

Gautham Vasudev Menon gets a meaty role in the film. With the kind of scope and importance that his character has, one would expect a lot of gravitas to be added by his character, but Gautham falls very short of that. His character lacks the impact because of his underwhelming performance. Gautham is surely a huge miscast in the film. Vijay Sethupathi and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar are grossly underused by the director, and are only seen for a brief period in the film.

Leading lady Divyansha Kaushik got a good role but she couldn’t make much of an impact.. Varun Sandesh’s role in the film was hyped up prior to the film’s release, but there’s not a lot that his character offers except for the pre interval episode, and he has done his part right..Anasuya Bharadwaj doesn’t get anything new to do in the film and is given a role that is very similar to the one she has been seen in previously.

Off-Screen Talents:

Director Ranjith has come up with a weak story line and many a times, one would get the feeling of watching KGF film franchise, especially when Guru’s main henchman narrates the story of Michael. With the exception of the last 30 minutes of the film, the rest of the film drags on, and is very slow at its pacing. The director also grossly underused actors like Vijay Sethupathi and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, while he overused Gautham Menon, who gave a very stone faced performance, which is a major drawback. The director should have put in more effort into the core element – story, than stylizing the film. The movie also doesn’t have a lot of entertaining parts, which might not sit well with regular audiences. The film has a very dark tone, which would only appeal to audiences that are into such kind of movies.

The cinematography of the film is top notch, and gives a very stylish look to the entire setup. The background music needs special mention, especially in the later half of the movie.

The production design of the film is good, but the editing could have been better, with a lot of scenes cut short, and the pacing improvised.

Plus Points:

• Visually pleasing/Stylish

Minus Points:

• Lack of interesting story line
• Gautham Menon’s performance
• Slow paced narration
• No emotional connect

Verdict: Michael is a movie that had a lot of scope if focused more on story line and emotions than other crafts of the film. It is a movie that caters only to those who are into dark themed gangster films. While the second half of the movie is little bit better than first half in terms of story and pacing, it still falls short of worthy watch. Sadly, Sundeep kishan might have to wait until his next movie to taste success..

7:00 PM   EST: Michael finds out who is trying to kill Guru and founds something unexpected. A twist happens in the story which leads to half time break.

8:00 PM   EST: Story continues at a similar pace in the second half. Director tried KGF style narration which did not appease to the audience.

Hero Sundeep Kishan’s actioner Michael under the direction of Ranjit Jeykodi is carrying good expectations among the audience. Co-starring Vijay Sethupathi in a key role, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it fares.

Story: Set in 90s time period, Michael ( Sundeep Kishan) an orphan with no identity saves Mumbai gangster Gurunadh( Gautham Menon) from danger and wins his trust. Later, Gurunadh sends Michael to Delhi on an assignment. What is the assignment? How is Teera’s ( Divyanshu Kaushik) father interlinked with it? Will Michael able to finish the task? Reason behind of the entry of Vijay Sethupathi’s character? To know that, you have to watch the film in the cinemas near you.

Performances: Sundeep Kishan’s hardwork for the role in visible on screen. His makeover with a ripped body is good and adds realistic texture to the proceedings. He performed risky action stunts with dedication. Literally, he kept blood and sweat to the film.

Gautam Menon gets a meaty role. His subtle acting and dialogue delivery as a gangster are good. The confrontation scenes between Gautam and Sundeep are executed on a decent note. Varun Sandesh is okay with his getup but the character lacks intense in it.

Vijay Sethupathi is a suprise package for the film. Though his character is left abruptly, the star actor mesmerizes with terrific screen presence in the extended cameo role. Heroine Divyanshu Kaushik’s character lacks soul in it.

Varalakshmi Sarathkumar is fine with her performance but her character lacks proper detailing. Though Anasuya is projected as a lady with aggressive behaviour, the role lacks depth in it. Other supporting artists such as Ayyappa are fine in their respective roles.

Technicalities: The cinematography work by Kiran Koushik is top-notch. He presented the entire film on a rustic note and made sure that each frame resembles 90s texture.

The music by Sam CS is fine as he used fresh instrumentation for the background score. The film has a couple of situational songs which are visually appealing.

Editing by R. Sathyanarayan is okay.Production values and production design work for this tight budget movie are alright. The choreography work for Divyanshu Kaushik’s introduction song is done nicely.

Analysis: Director Ranjit Jeykodi’s thought of exploring 90s action vibe on to the screen is good but the content lacks freshness in it. Surprisingly, the film has slow motion elevation shots on each and every key character in the film.

Along with the stylish making, if the director would have focused on a gripping narrative, the result would have been somewhat better. To summerize, Michael is a technically solid and has a couple of high moments after the entry of Vijay Sethupathi’s character but the dull screenplay and unengaging scene order comes as demerits.

Verdict: Tests patience!

క‌థేంటంటే: ఒక పేద కుటుంబానికి చెందిన రాయ‌న్ (ధ‌నుష్‌)కు ఇద్ద‌రు త‌మ్ముళ్లు (సందీప్‌కిష‌న్‌, కాళిదాస్ జ‌య‌రామ్‌), ఒక చెల్లి (దుషారా విజ‌య‌న్‌). చిన్న‌ప్పుడే త‌ల్లిదండ్రులు దూర‌మ‌వుతారు. టౌన్‌కి వెళ్లొస్తామ‌ని చెప్పి మ‌ళ్లీ తిరిగిరారు. ఆ త‌ర్వాత చోటు చేసుకున్న ప‌రిణామాలు రాయ‌న్ చేత క‌త్తిప‌ట్టిస్తాయి. భ‌య‌ప‌డకుండా పోరాటం చేయ‌డం అప్ప‌ట్నుంచే అల‌వాటవుతుంది. త‌న తోబుట్టువుల‌కు అన్నీ తానై, ముగ్గురినీ వెంట‌ పెట్టుకుని టౌన్‌కి చేరుకుంటాడు రాయ‌న్‌. ఓ మార్కెట్లో ప‌నిచేస్తూ న‌లుగురూ అక్క‌డే పెరిగి పెద్ద‌వుతారు. అక్క‌డ దురై (శ‌ర‌వ‌ణ‌న్‌), సేతు (ఎస్‌.జె.సూర్య‌) గ్యాంగ్స్ మ‌ధ్య ఎప్ప‌ట్నుంచో ఆధిప‌త్య పోరాటం కొన‌సాగుతుంటుంది. ఆ గొడ‌వ‌లు రాయ‌న్ కుటుంబాన్ని ఎలా ప్ర‌భావితం చేశాయి? త‌న తమ్ముళ్లు, చెల్లెలు కోసం రాయ‌న్ ఏం చేశాడు? రాయ‌న్ కోసం వాళ్లు ఏం చేశారు? త‌దిత‌ర విష‌యాల్ని తెర‌పై చూసి తెలుసుకోవాల్సిందే.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: ప్ర‌తీకారంతో ముడిప‌డిన గ్యాంగ్ వార్‌ కథలు, అందులో ఉండే పాత్రల మధ్య సంఘర్షణ ఆ సినిమా విజయానికి కొలమానంగా నిలుస్తాయి. కథగా చూస్తే ‘రాయన్‌’లో కొత్త‌ద‌న‌ం లేకపోయినా, కొన్ని మ‌లుపులు, కుటుంబ డ్రామా, క‌థా నేప‌థ్యం ప్ర‌త్యేకంగా మార్చేశాయి. ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం చాలావ‌ర‌కూ ఆయా పాత్ర‌లు, వాటి ప్ర‌పంచాన్ని ప‌రిచ‌యం చేయడానికే ప‌రిమితమైంది. రాయ‌న్ కుటుంబానికి దురై గ్యాంగ్ నుంచి స‌వాలు ఎదురు కావ‌డం నుంచే అస‌లు క‌థ మొద‌ల‌వుతుంది. విరామానికి ముందు వ‌చ్చే ఆ స‌న్నివేశాలు సినిమాని మ‌రో స్థాయికి తీసుకెళ్ల‌డంతోపాటు, ద్వితీయార్ధంపై ఆస‌క్తిని పెంచుతాయి.

దురైతో పోరాటం త‌ర్వాత సింహంలా బ‌లంగా క‌నిపించిన రాయ‌న్, ఆ త‌ర్వాత తోడేల్లాంటి సేతు (ఎస్‌.జె.సూర్య‌) ఎత్తుల‌కు దొరికిపోయాడా?లేదా?అనే విష‌యాలు కీల‌కం. ప్ర‌థ‌మార్ధం వ‌ర‌కూ ఒక సాధార‌ణ అన్న‌దమ్ముల క‌థ అనిపించినా, ద్వితీయార్ధంలోకి వ‌చ్చేస‌రికి స‌రికొత్త డ్రామాతో క‌థాగ‌మ‌నాన్ని మార్చేశాడు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ధ‌నుష్‌. రాయ‌న్‌కీ, త‌న చెల్లెలు దుర్గకీ మ‌ధ్య స‌న్నివేశాలు సినిమాకి హైలైట్‌. ముఖ్యంగా ఆస్ప‌త్రిలో పోరాట ఘ‌ట్టాలు, సేతు మ‌నిషిని ఇంటికి పిలిపించి చంపి, టీ తాగ‌డం త‌దిత‌ర స‌న్నివేశాలు ప్రేక్ష‌కులల‌తో ఈల‌లు కొట్టిస్తాయి.

సేతు, త‌న ఇద్ద‌రు పెళ్లాల చుట్టూ అల్లిన స‌న్నివేశాలూ అల‌రిస్తాయి. ప‌తాక స‌న్నివేశాల్లోనూ వైవిధ్యం క‌నిపిస్తుంది. ర‌క్త‌పాతం, త‌మిళ వాస‌న‌ల‌తో కూడిన కొన్ని అతి స‌న్నివేశాలు ఉన్న‌ప్ప‌టికీ... ఒక మామూలు క‌థ‌ని ధ‌నుష్ త‌న అండ‌ర్ ప్లే న‌ట‌న‌తో, వైవిధ్య‌మైన కొన్ని మాస్ ఘ‌ట్టాల‌తో ర‌క్తి క‌ట్టించే ప్ర‌య‌త్నం చేశాడు. హ‌త్తుకునే భావోద్వేగాల్ని పండించే అవ‌కాశం ఉన్న క‌థే అయినా, ధ‌నుష్ ఆ దిశ‌గా దృష్టి సారించ‌లేదు.

ఎవ‌రెలా చేశారంటే: ధ‌నుష్ న‌ట‌న ఈ సినిమాకి ప్ర‌ధాన బ‌లం. అండ‌ర్ ప్లే చేస్తూనే హీరోయిజం ప్ర‌ద‌ర్శించిన తీరు ఈ క‌థ తీరుతెన్నుల్నే మార్చేసింది. ద్వితీయార్ధం స‌న్నివేశాల‌తో త‌న న‌ట‌నే కాదు, త‌న‌లో ఎంత మంచి ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ఉన్నాడో కూడా చాటి చెబుతాడు. సందీప్‌కిష‌న్‌, కాళిదాస్ జ‌య‌రామ్ త‌మ్ముళ్లుగా ఒదిగిపోయారు. దుషారా విజ‌యన్ పాత్ర, ఆమె న‌ట‌న చిత్రానికి ప్ర‌ధాన‌బ‌లం.

ఎస్‌.జె.సూర్య విల‌న్‌గా భ‌య‌పెడుతూనే చాలా చోట్ల న‌వ్వించాడు. శ‌ర‌వ‌ణ‌న్‌, అప‌ర్ణ బాల‌ముర‌ళి, ప్ర‌కాశ్‌రాజ్‌, వ‌ర‌ల‌క్ష్మి శ‌ర‌త్‌కుమర్‌ల పాత్ర‌ల ప‌రిధి త‌క్కువే అయినా గుర్తుండిపోతాయి. ఎ.ఆర్‌.రెహమాన్ నేప‌థ్య సంగీతం. చాలా స‌న్నివేశాలు ఆయ‌న సంగీతంతో మరో స్థాయిలో పండాయి. ధ‌నుష్‌కి ద‌ర్శ‌క‌త్వం కంటే న‌ట‌న ప‌రంగానే ఎక్కువ మార్కులు ప‌డ‌తాయి.

Sony YAY! , the kids entertainment channel from Sony Pictures Networks India, is ramping up its anime content and developing original Indian IPs for international platforms as it looks to grow beyond traditional broadcasting.

Launched in 2017, Sony YAY! has established itself as a top three player in India’s competitive kids’ television market. The channel’s strategy focuses on Indian content and popular anime titles to capture young audiences.

Sony YAY! is currently producing “Karna the Guardian,” an anime-style reimagining of a character from the Indian epic “Mahabharata.” Karna, a complex and tragic figure in the ancient Sanskrit epic, is being adapted for a new generation of viewers. The series aims to blend traditional Indian storytelling with modern anime aesthetics, potentially appealing to both domestic and international audiences.

Another original production, “The Curse of the Robin,” is an anime concept following a teenage girl who discovers a magical makeup box that transforms her from a timid Indian girl into a more confident version of herself. Bardhan emphasized that the transformation goes beyond superficial changes, focusing on how the protagonist perceives the world and herself. This series is being developed as a movie, with plans to pitch it to international markets upon completion.

While deals are still being finalized, Bardhan said “Karna the Guardian” is close to signing with a major platform. For “C.I.D.,” an animated adaptation of a long-running crime series, Sony YAY! plans to produce a full season before taking it to market.

On the anime front, Sony YAY! recently acquired popular Japanese series “ Shin chan ” after its 17-year run on other Indian channels. The company sees potential to expand “Shin chan” through licensing, merchandising and experiential offerings aimed at both kids and nostalgic adult fans.

Sony YAY! is exploring partnerships to create “Shin chan” apparel for adults and other product categories. While a full theme park isn’t among immediate plans, Bardhan said the company is open to smaller experiential offerings as the brand gets established.

Sony YAY! has launched eight anime titles so far. Its flagship shows, French animation “Oggy and the Cockroaches,” “Shin chan” and “Honey Bunny” are available in seven languages: Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bangla, Kannada and Odia. Japan’s “ Naruto ” is offered in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Bangla.

To serve growing demand, Sony YAY! has launched dedicated anime channels on the Airtel and Tata Play platforms. Tata Play Anime Local is available in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, while Airtel Anime Booth, a value-added service channel, offers content in Hindi. Japan’s “Black Clover” is available exclusively on the Anime Booth VAS channel.

“The hunger for anime titles in India is real,” Bardhan noted. “It’s not waiting to grow, it is already there.”

Looking ahead, Sony YAY! plans to stay focused on animation rather than expanding into live-action content for kids. The channel’s brand positioning centers on creating a “#Happyverse” where kids can freely use their imagination.

While open to preschool content, Sony YAY! aims to prioritize entertainment over overt education in its programming. “We want to remain that brand that is not going to judge kids on whether they are grasping education out of our content or not,” Bardhan said.
