Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On Football For Lower Primary Classes

Today’s increasing pressure on the children in school is several folds higher than a few years ago. An essay on football for classes 1, 2 and 3 kids captures kids’ interest and helps them gain some writing skills. However, this change has helped get Indian children up to a good ranking globally, and there is a visible improvement in students’ vocabulary and language skills. These essays are mainly targeted toward common interests like an essay about football in English or other interesting topics and famous personalities like Sachin Tendulkar and Chandrashekhar Azad. Here is how you can develop a good write-up on football.

Essay writing plays a major role in this pursuit of better language skills, and children are made to write articles, paragraphs, and essays starting from a young age, class 1 in most cases. Here is a list of points to understand how to write an essay on football.

  • Always start your essay with a short introduction.
  • Be clear with your facts. Since it is a popular sport, do not add things you are unsure about.
  • In the case of short articles for lower classes, it should be fine to stick to general statements.
  • Maintain a good continuity between your paragraphs.

When writing a few lines on football for your children, keep a good balance between personalised content and general facts. Here is how you can write a short essay for classes 1 and 2.

  • Everyone in my class has their favourite hobbies, and so do I.
  • My favourite hobby is playing football after school.
  • I play regularly on the ground next to my home with my friends.
  • I also enjoy watching football matches at home with my parents.
  • My favourite player is Lionel Andres Messi, and he is my role model.
  • My favourite part about playing football is when I score goals for our team.
  • We play very friendly and keep a healthy competition between us.
  • I have taken part in many league matches in our school and hometown.
  • I also have a few medals and certificates for my wins.
  • I wish to grow better and improve my football skills with practice.

Since the popularity of football is sure to be maintained through many years to come, it is a very common topic to be asked for an essay or composition. You can write about the game as a small paragraph.

Football is one of the most popular games all over the globe. It is played in many forms in different countries, like soccer, rugby, American football and more. As a thumb rule, a team comprises of 11 players, where one is a goalkeeper. The players run around during the whole game, scoring goals by kicking the ball through the post. It is a fun game that many school-going children enjoy across many countries, including India. The game is also known as soccer in South Africa, Australia, and North America. There are many famous tournaments which are played as well. The most widely known one is the FIFA world cup, which takes place every four years. I enjoy watching football and playing it with my friends every day!

When you write a short essay on football for relatively higher classes, it would be more appropriate to include more facts like the rules and regulations of the game or so. Here is how you can write up a good paragraph.

My favourite game is football. I have been a big fan of Manchester City’s team ever since I started watching football on TV with my father. I watch all their matches without missing even one. Especially the FIFA world cup is something that keeps me excited for many days before it starts. I also play football in school with my friends every day, and I am the goalkeeper of my team. We have participated in a few league matches and tournaments with other schools. I want to improve my skills like my favourite players in the future. The game of football is so much more than just a simple sport. It is a complex exercise for physical and mental health as it involves a lot of concentration and focus. It also helps to build good team spirit while playing in teams. That’s why, it is my favourite sport.

As we progress to higher classes, the write-ups require longer paragraphs with additional subheadings. When such a situation arises, another factor of paragraph continuity should be kept in mind. Here is an example essay for class 3 on the topic of football.

Football is a game which requires combined mastery and skills in different aspects like strength, fitness, cleverness, and teamwork. It is a game played by 11 players in most cases and for 90 minutes. This game is a fun and entertaining one, where you get to witness the players pass around the ball with swift techniques and score goals left and right.

History And Origin Of Football

Folk football has always been part of medieval times. In ancient days, the ball the players used were made with a wide range of materials, many of which were quite weird. Some even used balls made out of the pig’s bladder, obtained after blowing up the animal. Records say Tsu’ Chu, a game played in the Han Dynasty, was closer to football as it involved a ball that players used to push through a 30-40 cm opening.

Benefits Of Playing Football

There are many benefits of playing football every day, and a few of the noteworthy ones include the following.

  • Improved aerobic capacity because of intense activity for 90 minutes.
  • Better cardiovascular health while maintaining good health and burning calories.
  • Lowers body fat
  • Improves muscle tone and strength
  • Promotes teamwork
  • Good exercise for coordination
  • Better self-esteem
  • How Is Football Played?

Being a short game of just 90 minutes, the game’s entirety is filled with excitement. Every time a player tries to take the ball towards the goal post, it is similar to watching a movie. There are many associated factors like what the opponents do to defend and how much effort they put into scoring the goal. It is always interesting to watch pro players like Ronaldo and Messi show off their skills on the field.

The football teams consist of 11 players and are played in several tournaments both nationally and internationally. The game is literally what is stated in its name, where players kick the ball with their feet towards the goalposts on either side to score points for their team. The different techniques and skills used by professional teams from diverse backgrounds are more interesting. These players tend to show variations with every game, and many fans find it very interesting to keep track of such information and details.

By writing essays about how football is an interesting and exciting sport, your child will be motivated to get into good physical activity as a regular hobby. As we discussed before, having a hobby like a football is good in multiple aspects. Your child also learns about the game’s details while framing the composition on football.

Every child must know how to write a proper essay to improve their writing skills. Hence it is essential to start teaching them such skills from a young age.

Essay on a Football Match

Matches are an essential pan of sports and games. Matches give rise to competitive spirit and sportmanship. Moreover, sport matches are a kind of get-together where players, apart from playing and displaying their physical stamina, exchange ideas and information and have frue and frank discussion among themselves.

Both the teams were in high spirits. They were dressed smartly and neatly Both seemed to be equally strong. The spectators were expecting a well-contested game. The ground and its surroundings were jampacked by the public.

The Khalsa team soon recovered their lost position and in the heat of the moment they scored a goal. The team was lustily cheered by their supporters But at the same time, the right half of the DAV team was badly injured and the captain had to bear the brunt throughout the entire game.

Again, the referee whistles and the match restarted. Now the DAV team gird up its loins and played with caution. The goalkeeper of DAV team also became alert In the first few moments, the Khalsa team put pressure on the DAV team their left half made three hits one after another in the goal of DAV but the goalkeeper of DAV team showed his extraordinary skill by kicking the ball back.

Then, in the heat of the game, the DAV side took the ball to the rival side and within no time, their lett half gave a pass to the right half and the right-half kicked the ball straight into the goal. Thus a goal was scored.

Personal Experience and Impressions of Watching a Football Match Essay

  • To find inspiration for your paper and overcome writer’s block
  • As a source of information (ensure proper referencing)
  • As a template for you assignment

I watched a live soccer game between Manchester United football club and Aston Villa football club as broadcasted by Manchester United TV on the internet. The match was played on the 12 th of December 2009 at 3pm local time for a period of 90 minutes plus a few extra minutes. The venue of the match was Old Trafford; a football stadium located in London with a capacity of 50,000 seats thus its ability to accommodate a considerable percentage of football fans. It is owned and managed by Manchester United. The outcome of the soccer game was 0-1 in favor of Aston Villa football club.

The offensive tactics of the game were varied as seen in the desire of each team to outclass the other. Manchester United’s focused on deploying two strikers that is Wayne Rooney and Dimitiar Berbatov to the flanks leading to Aston Villa’s goal post. These two strikers were served with long shots from mid fielders like Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs. Immediately Rooney and Berbatov received the ball they interchanged positions thus confusing Aston Villa’s defenders. This technique was also aimed at beating the offside track. The perfect result of such actions would have been a goal however Aston Villa’s tactics proved to be more effective. Another offensive tactic utilized by Manchester United was evident during free kicks and corners as seen in the manner in which the ball was directed towards the mid field with the aim of starting a fresh attack. The defensive tactics were seen in the coordination of efforts between Wes Brown and Vidic who guarded the flanks from the speed and talent exhibited by Aston Villa players.

The offensive Tactics utilized by Aston Villa basically incorporated the use of low passes and counter attacking mechanisms such that immediately Manchester United lost the ball while attacking Aston Villa rushed to counter attack before reorganization of the defense team took place. These attacks were carried out by Young and Agbonlahor. The defensive techniques utilized by Aston Villa basically incorporated strengthening of the midfield in a tactic known as playing defensively in the mid field. This restricts Manchester United’s players from accessing the last quarter of the area to Aston Villa’s goal post.

The star players for Manchester United as portrayed both in this match and other matches are Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vedic. Rooney is recognized for his speed and accuracy. In this particular match he created numerous chances however it was Dimitiar Berbatov who did not execute such chances. Nemanja Vedic is perhaps the best defender in the world, he is a Serbian recognized for his physical and mental strength especially in restricting strikers from advancing into the penalty area of the soccer pitch. The star players in Aston Villa are Young and Agbonlahor. These are strikers recognized for their goal scoring abilities as evident in their stylistic footwork that confuse strikers. This is the reason for their goal against Manchester United football club. Aston Villa’s goalkeeper is also recognized for his skills in saving balls that could have otherwise been goals had it been another goal keeper guarding the goal post.

The goal of the match was scored by Agbonlahor who shielded off Manchester United’s Wes Brown. He then passed the ball to Young who further shielded off Nemanja Vidic. Agbonlahor then dashed towards the open space close to Manchester United’s goal post. This was for the purpose of receiving the ball crossed by Young after which he scored with a header.

The Koreans were really fast and scored the first goal within ten minutes. The Indian team had to struggle very hard but managed an equaliser before half-time. Should College Football Players Be Paid Essay

College football is a great business that brings millions of dollars and provides coaches with high salaries. Athletes train hard to present their universities and receive career opportunities. However, they should not be paid for it as they already receive scholarships or grants and have all the training facilities. Many other students contribute to their colleges and don’t receive payment either. Sports scholarships give many opportunities to talented athletes. Some of them cover all the costs of education and living expenses. Education is not cheap in the United States – even half of the annual payment is a significant sum. Football scholarships offer a “full-ride” for the students who participate in Football Bowl Subdivision. That is why they graduate without loans and don’t have to work during college. Moreover, they can receive a degree and sports opportunities after graduation, thanks to the scholarships. Funding can be considered as payment for their hard work and dedication. All the sports facilities on campus are relatively expensive. Colleges pay for the equipment and its maintenance so that athletes can use it all for free. Football athletes have a place to train, coaches, psychologists, and recognition. All this creates perfect conditions for working out and concentration. Of course, it is an investment, and colleges also earn money on selling tickets, drinks, snacks, and merchandise. As for students, the ability to train and play are the investments in their future careers.

Essay on Concussions in Football

Concussions are the most frequent traumas in American football. While uniforms’ design should protect the athletes, it is still a valid problem. Repeated concussions can cause chronic traumatic encephalopathy that results in brain deterioration and mass loss. The symptoms include memory loss, impulsive behavior, depression, and even dementia. Why are safety measures during training so necessary? It is hard to notice CTE during the first stages. An athlete could not spot the first symptoms for months, years, or even decades. JAMA published a study that shows that among 202 deceased former football players, 177 had CTE. It is hard to imagine, but safety and proper care could have saved the lives and health of those athletes. Such measures as rapid screening, adequate rest, and regular mental health screens should be integral parts of every football player’s life. They also should not return to play the same day the concussion was diagnosed and gradually return to sports. Full recovery takes up to two weeks for adults and up to a month for kids. We need to work on risky behavior. Coaches and healthcare providers have to educate football players on concussions and possible consequences from a young age. While it is impossible to control the risks during competitions fully, it can be achievable during training. It should be every team’s goal to prevent injuries during pre-season practice…

Yesterday I saw a football match. It was played between the teams of Delhi Public School and DAV Public School on the grounds of Modern School, Delhi.

At 5 p.m. the teams entered the field. At that time there was a large number of spectators. The referee whistled and the match began.

From the very beginning DAV Public School played an offensive game. So the other team had to play defensively. The captain of DAV Public School got the ball just before the interval. He passed the ball to his colleagues who kicked it to the captain again. Then he kicked the ball. The goal keeper could not check it. It was a clear goal.

After the interval, the teams changed sides. Delhi Public School began an offensive game. The players did their best to score a goal, But DAV Public School defended successfully.

First before the end of the match, the goalkeeper of DAV Public School slipped. So the captain of Delhi Public School scored an easy goal.

The time was over. The referee whistled. Both the teams had scored a goal each. So the match ended in a draw. It was a very exciting match. Luck favoured both the reams. There were many ups downs.

I enjoyed it very much.

Set 3: Essay On A Football Match

Last week my father took me to the Netaji Stadium to watch the finals of the football match between Shri Ramaswamy College and a visiting team from South Korea. During his college days, my father was the captain of his team.

We bought our tickets and settled down in our seats, and soon all the stands were filled to capacity.

The game started on time and it was not long before the captain of the S R College inspired his team by scoring an early goal. The Koreans were very fast and it did not take them long to score their first goal. From them on the SR College team had to struggle and on two occasions missed netting the ball. At half time, the score remained at one all.

Five minutes after the break the South Koreans scored their second goal. Their teamwork, speed and dribbling was so fantastic that it was difficult for the SR College team to get past their defence. The SR College team tried very hard to even the score, but in the end they lost to the South Koreans by 4-1.

It match to watch. I was sitting at the edge of my seat right through the match. The Koreans proved to be a superior team than the SR College team, and all who were watching the match, had something to learn from them. It was a great experience that I shall not forget easily.

Set 4: Essay On Watching A Football Match

Watching a football match is an exciting experience. The other day I saw a football match between Seva Sadan Warriors team and L.E.H.S Challengers team. Hundreds of spectators had gathered to see the exciting match. Admission was based on tickets. All the stands in the ground were packed. Students of local schools, shopkeepers, parents and other football lovers had gathered to witness the match. This match was a yearly event and the fans were very excited to see the competition. For two successive years, Seva Sadan Warriors had shown their dominance. Even this year they fought successfully to retain the championship. However, this time the fight was little harder than before.

The captain of the Seva Sadan Warriors, Mussadilal, could not have had a better day than he had on this occasion. He had given his team an inspirational start with an early goal. He received the close support from Bhatia with whom he sprinted with grace. They both impressed all with their speed.

From the the start, the defence of L.E.H.S Challengers faced a serious attack. This helped Seva Sadan Warriors to have three corners. In the 20th minute Rajesh, player of Seva Sadan Warriors raced in a beautiful single run, for a goal. He took a magnificent pass across the stretched defence and the ball came back from the bar. There was a roaring cheer among the spectators.

L.E.H.S Challengers had no answer about what was happening. However, in the 24th minute of the first half Lalu Shukla’s break through was cut short by Patel of Seva Sadan Warriors who conceded a corner. Then with dramatic quickness, the L.E.H.S Challengers struck a goal in the next minute. The score was even. Few remaining minutes of the first half were spent by Seva Sadan Warriors in efforts to regain the lead. However, they didnot succeed.

In the second half, Chellangers attacked continuously and with powerful effect on the opposing defence. Goalkeeper Firoz stopped their first attempt with a diving save. Than Pandey’s shot went straight into Firoz’s hands. The L.E.H.S team was resisting wilfully, but their fight could not continue to be effective for long.

Soon the attack of Seva Sadan Warriors increased and L.E.H.S Challengers seemed in danger. Finally, the struggle of the Challengers was broken as Warriors succeeded in making two goals in last seven minutes and won the match.

L.E.H.S Challengers had certainly put up a great performance, but the championship had to remain with the holders. The applause of the spectators could not be described. There was wild cheering all around.

Madden 25 vs. College Football 25 - which EA game is better?

With both Madden 25 and College Football 25 now on store shelves, many will want to compare them and see which one is the better game. Both are developed by EA Orlando and published by EA Sports. Both are football video games that share many similar features. But if you're a lover of both collegiate and professional football, you might find yourself deciding on which one to get. Therefore, we compared Madden 25 vs. College Football 25 to see which one we think makes for a better game.

Madden NFL 25 vs. College Football 25

Why Pick College Football 25?

College Football 25 is the first NCAAF video game from EA Sports since NCAA Football 14, released in 2013. For years, fans have always wanted to see the series return. And after a decade full of legal battles and NIL discussions, we finally get to hit the virtual field as our favorite schools.

In our opinion, College Football 25 offers a better overall gameplay experience than Madden 25. Players movement feels faster, abilities like jukes and spins feel more effective, and the revamped passing system works really well.

Additionally, College Football 25 lets you play as any of the 134 FBS schools in the NCAA. Want to play as #1 Georgia Bulldogs, or perhaps the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers? The game lets you play in all their stadiums, including many neutral sites for bowl games, conference games, championships, and more. That's just a part of College Football 25's deep level of presentation.

Between mascots, fight songs, school specific chants, fan sections, and much more, College Football 25 offers great presentation. You'll see something new in every game as you play as your favorite NCAAF players. Yes, College Football 25 features well over 10,000 real players who opted-in to have their NIL in the game. It truly feels like an authentic experience.

Lastly, College Football 25 brings back two classic modes, Dynasty, and Return to Glory. The former lets you coach any school, recruit new players, and fight for a championship. The latter lets you live out your own collegiate career before heading off into the NFL (Madden 25).

Why Pick Madden 25?

If you're an NFL fan who doesn't watch College Football 25, then Madden already has an advantage in earning your purchase. Quantity doesn't always equate to quality, and playing as the best of the best is sometimes an unbeatable experience. Is it fun to play as Quinshon Judkins and abuse his spin move? Of course. But sometimes you want to play as absolute ballers like Justin Jefferson, Lamar Jackson, or Christian McCaffrey.

Madden 25 is the only video game on the market that features fully licensed NFL teams with complete rosters. And while I love College Football, I've personally always been a bigger NFL fan. Plus, I've always preferred the structure of the NFL because you don't need to worry about a polling system. If you go 16-0, you'll probably earn the #1 seed. In College Football 25, you're fate is determined by something out of your control.

Additionally, Madden 25's Franchise mode lets you import up to 32 total Team Builder teams in one franchise. In College Football 25, you can only use 16 teams per Dynasty. You and your friends could create an entire league of team builder teams if you wanted.

Speaking of Franchise, Madden 25 makes some new presentational improvements to the mode this year. Between an improved Draft Night featuring Roger Goodell, three total commentary teams, and new Breakout Storylines which connect you with your players, there's more effort to make the mode more immersive.

And personally, we feel that Superstar mode in Madden 25 is better than College Football 25's Road To Glory. You can actually pick your own plays, which seems like a minor thing but actually makes a major difference. There's a bit more control on Gameday, which feels more convenient to the player.

Conclusion – Should you get Madden 25 or College Football 25?

We believe that College Football 25 is currently a better video game than Madden 25. Although updates could improve the latter, we think the collegiate side of EA Sports' latest football games offers a much better experience. Between the better gameplay experience, and the fact that it's the first College Football video game in over a decade, there's more reason to try this one out than Madden.

But if you prefer the NFL and do not really watch College Football, then there's a chance you might grow bored of CFB 25 quickly. After all, it's hard to maintain your interest if you're not playing as your favorite team in your favorite league. Additionally, Madden 25 offers a better player-career mode (Superstar) which offers you more control pre-snap.

Nevertheless, College Football 25 wins this one. But at the end of the day, there's things both games can learn from each other. College Football 25's Superstar mode could let you actually call your own plays in the huddle. And Madden 25 could offer better player movement if it runs on the same engine. Overall, we hope to see both titles improve in the future so that at the end of the day, both the consumer and developer win.

And that wraps up our comparison of College Football 25 vs. Madden 25. If you decide to pick up both games, learn how to import your RTG player into Madden 25 Superstar mode.

Illinois football predictions 2024: Game-by-game picks based on ESPN matchup predictor

essay about a football match

The Illinois Fighting Illini are on the cusp of a possible bowl bid in 2024 if ESPN's matchup predictor is any indication. The Illini are picked to win five of their 12 games ahead of the 2024 college football season — with at least four of those nearly virtual coin flips, according to the data pulled from ESPN's Football Power Index .

The Illini schedule is ranked the 42nd most difficult, according to College Football Network , and 14th among 18 teams in the Big Ten. Matchup predictor considers Illinois' three toughest games to be on the road at Big Ten newcomer Oregon and in Happy Valley against Penn State. Not far behind is a difficult home game against reigning national champion Michigan.

Florida State football begin Georgia Tech, Dublin game week preparation | 4 things to know

essay about a football match

It's game week for Florida State football as kick-off against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland is five days away.

The Seminoles ramped up preparations for the start of the season during Monday morning's practice. Drills were run a little quicker and the intensity was high as FSU put together a complete practice on both sides of the football.

Newly named starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei carried over his momentum from last week's practices, having another good day under center. The offense as a whole was clicking well, putting together a string of good practices in a row.

Defensively the Seminoles remained sound, with the usual contributors popping up with some nice plays throughout practice.

Here are four things to know from fall camp.

A consistent display from Uiagaleleli, wide receivers

The Seminoles offense ended last week with a bang, having arguably the best performance of the fall during Thursday's practice. That momentum carried over into the first game week practice on Monday, with Uiagalelei leading a consistent showing .

Uiagalelei was placing the ball well, finding his receivers in stride with some nice passes. He connected on a nice deep ball to Lawrance Toafili in team activities, following that up with an impressive downfield throw to Deuce Spann in passing work.

Some moments maybe could have been cleaner, but it was an overall solid showing from Uiagaleleli.

One of the biggest areas of improvement for the offense comes from the wide receivers, with the group starting to find their stride days before kickoff. After some up and down days in the early part of fall camp, there has been a consistent impact from the group as players like Malik Benson , Jalen Brown and Kentron Poitier have made big strides.

Benson has established himself as a leader of the group, not only running his routes efficiently but also taking time to coach up his teammates.

Brown is another name that has emerged, earning a starting role against Georiga Tech. He followed up being named starter with an impressive day that included an impressive downfield diving catch in traffic, prompting an excited response from players and coaches alike.

Darion Williamson had an impressive showing, catching nearly every ball thrown his way and fighting through tough coverage to make some impressive plays. On one play, Williamson fought off aggressive coverage from Quindarrius Jones, who got his hand on the ball in Williamson's hand, but the receiver shook him off to complete the reception.

Running backs make an impact

The running back room has been arguably the most consistent on the offensive side of the football, with players like Toafili, Roydell Williams and Kam Davis making some impact plays during Monday's practice.

Toafili flashed his ability as a pass catch with the previously mentioned catch from Uiagalelei's pass, and he added a few more reps where he made some nice grabs in traffic. On the ground, he was solid when called upon, making quick moves to secure extra yardage.

Williams and Davis both impressed on Monday, with both players showing the combination of speed and strength they possess.

Williams fought through the tackles well and was able to turn in some impressive runs in team activities. Davis showed his quick step, making several cuts when running the ball that left the defense chasing shadows at times. The freshman has been one of the more impressive players in recent weeks.

The offensive line was solid Monday, opening gaps and creases for the running backs to exploit. Andre' Otto continues to impress, winning his pass protection reps and looking strong against the defensive line.

Versatility across the defense

There were big moments from each area of the defense on Monday.

Be it an improbable and athletic interception from Azareye'h Thomas , an impressive day for some of the linebackers or the athleticism of the defensive front, there was some big plays from the defense.

Thomas matched up with a receiver in one-on-one coverage, and while the initial pass looked to be a catch, Thomas got his hand on the football to pop it loose and then he climbed the back of the receiver to secure the interception. The play drew a big reaction from the defensive backs and coaching staff.

Cam Riley put in another consistent shift at the linebacker role, grabbing an interception in passing drills. He continues to impress and earned praise from defensive coordinator Adam Fuller during and after practice for his performance on Monday.

Marvin Jones Jr and Darrell Jackson both had big moments on the defensive line, with Jones flashing his speed and power off the line to disrupt some plays and run impressive drills. Jackson showcased his reach, reaching his arm out while latched to and offensive lineman to blow up a run play. It was an impressive day for both players.

Georiga Tech, Ireland preparations take center stage

The first game week of the season brought out an uptick in intensity from the Seminoles as every rep in drills and live action was run with a bit more purpose.

Players like Thomas and safety Shyheim Brown were not afraid to let friendly trash talk fly and the team seemed to be practicing with a closer to gamelike mentality.

The Seminoles will depart for Ireland on Wednesday evening following practice, and the team will have two more practices in Ireland before gameday against Georiga Tech.

Colt McCoy announces retirement from NFL, move to college football broadcasting for NBC

Mccoy's first broadcast will be colorado-nebraska on sept. 7 in primetime.

Quarterback Colt McCoy is retiring after 12 NFL seasons and 14 years in the league overall. However, he'll stay busy with a jump right into broadcasting, which was formally announced on Monday.

McCoy's retirement was first reported by Fox Sports' Peter Schrager , who also alluded to the quarterback's big move into television.

After 14 years, Colt McCoy tells me he is retiring from the NFL. One door closes, another opens. McCoy already has a high profile broadcasting job secured, which will be announced later today. Congrats to Colt on an awesome NFL career! @ColtMcCoy — Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) August 19, 2024

On social media , McCoy said goodbye to football on the field while also hinting at what's to come in his career.

NBC Sports then announced that McCoy is joining the network's Big Ten coverage for the upcoming season. It's a nice promotion to a featured role for McCoy, who previously called USFL games for the network (in case anyone wondered why a player who starred in the Big 12 will call Big Ten football).

He'll work as a game analyst and also contribute to NBC's "Big Ten College Countdown" studio show. McCoy's debut in the broadcast booth will be for a prominent non-conference game with Colorado playing Nebraska on Sept. 7.

With Colorado coach Deion Sanders always a draw, Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders a preseason Heisman Trophy contender and five-star prospect Dylan Raiola expected to start at QB for Nebraska , the matchup figures to draw plenty of attention and is getting a primetime network TV showcase. So plenty of viewers will be tuned in for McCoy's first college football broadcast.

"College football has always held a special place in my heart. With the expansion of the Big Ten and new era of college football, it is the perfect time to join NBC Sports," McCoy said in NBC's official announcement . "I can’t wait to share in the passion, excitement, and competitive spirit every week."

Thank you football. Excited for the next chapter. https://t.co/w93xRUKbCy — Colt McCoy (@ColtMcCoy) August 19, 2024

McCoy had an outstanding college career as a four-year starter for Texas, completing 70% of his passes for 13,253 yards and 45 touchdowns. His Longhorns teams went 45-8 under coach Mack Brown, winning the Alamo, Holiday and Fiesta Bowls. Texas lost to Alabama in the BCS national championship game in his senior season.

As a junior and senior, McCoy won All-American honors, while also finishing as a Heisman Trophy finalist. Additionally, he won the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien and Manning Awards during his senior season.

In the NFL, McCoy was a third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns and played with them for three seasons. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers , Washington Commanders , New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals during his career. During his 14 years as a pro, McCoy threw for 7,975 yards, 34 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

Texas A&M football 2024 game-by-game predictions: A&M surprises in Elko’s first year

Game-by-game predictions for Texas A&M football in 2024: Aggies leverage solid defense, surprising offense to huge year

Well, Texas A&M football fans, the time is almost here. I write this on Monday evening of the final week before the first game week of the year—and it's hard to believe it's nearly time.

That in mind, it's time to actually get down on paper (or, I guess, on the internet) how I'm feeling about this Aggie team. I've written a lot of words without making actual predictions yet (the Notre Dame game excepted ), but now the time has come where the rubber meets the road: how many games will the Aggies actually win in this 2024 season?

Let's jump right in.

Texas A&M football vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

17. 443. . vbnxfgbnfbxfbx. 535. . 30. .

In my earlier preview of this game, I had the Aggies winning 34-21. Since then, I've begun to think that we won't see quite as much offense in this one. Though it's exciting that Terry Bussey is reportedly making the switch over to the offensive side of the ball, and I expect him to make some big plays in this one, I'm becoming a bit leery of the Ags' ability to blow the doors off on offense in game one under a new regime.

Similarly, I think that the Irish won't be all that when they try to move the ball. The more I learn about this ND team, and Riley Leonard in particular, the more I think that this is a bad matchup for the Golden Domers.

This one won't be comfortable for the Ags until halfway through the fourth quarter, but I think the game control metrics will look good for the Maroon and White at the end of things. I've got A&M winning, 30-17, to start off the year 1-0.

LB Kristian Welch

DENVER – Kristian Welch has played enough football to know there's only so much a player can control when trying to make an NFL 53-man roster.

To his credit, the Packers' fifth-year linebacker keeps finding ways to get noticed for the right reasons.

Welch was responsible for one of the highlights of an otherwise forgettable 27-2 preseason loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, intercepting a Jarrett Stidham pass that had been batted in the air by Green Bay defensive lineman James Ester at the line of scrimmage.

It was the second straight week Welch helped generate a takeaway for the Packers' defense coming out of halftime. A week earlier, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker corralled a fumble en route to a 23-10 win over Cleveland.

Welch used every inch of his vertical to do it, high-pointing the ball and maintaining possession once he hit the ground.

"I just knew there was probably going to be some pursuit from the offense," Welch said. "It was pretty high up there for a tip. I just tried to high-point it and make the play. I just take it one play at a time and try to take advantage and win that play. That's really my mindset."

A native of Iola, Wis., Welch started last year on Green Bay's practice squad before becoming a core member of the special-teams unit. Since re-signing in March, the veteran linebacker has been competing all offseason amongst a deep linebacker room.

Welch maximized his minutes Sunday, recording six tackles (one for a loss) with the INT while playing most of the game with Green Bay not dressing veterans Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie and rookie second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper , who's been out with a hip injury.

Welch's pick seemed to be a turning point for the Packers' defense, which conceded just 90 total yards in the second half. The Broncos' 10 second-half points came off a fumble recovery and a turnover on downs at the Green Bay 34.

Welch lamented the final outcome and the missed opportunities that went along with it but also knows big plays are what help make sure he's on the roster when the games truly matter. In that way, Sunday was a step in a positive direction.

"There's only so much you can control at this point in training camp," Welch said. "I've just been trying to take full advantage of every play that I get. Just gotta try to make the ones that come to you and not try to do too much and do your job on every single play. That's kind of been my mindset. Just try to make the ones that come to you."

Morton's moment: On his 11th day as a member of the Packers, first-year defensive end Zach Morton prevented his new team from getting shut out.

Having signed with Green Bay due to injuries at the position, Morton busted through the Broncos' line in the third quarter to sack quarterback Zach Wilson for a safety to secure the only two points the Packers would score.

"As an undrafted guy, the preseason means everything," Morton said. "I treat it like it's honestly my Super Bowl. I just try to go out there and do what I can do. I know everybody's watching. It definitely pays off."

Unfamiliar territory for Sean Clifford and Co.: As well as things went for the second- and third-team offense in Cleveland, the Packers' offense struggled to get going while facing most of Denver's defensive starters in the first half.

Clifford and rookie quarterback Michael Pratt were 16-of-26 for just 95 passing yards. Clifford's last pass was an interception in the second quarter, while Pratt fell victim to a strip-sack midway through the third quarter.

It was a learning experience for both young QBs, who'll look to bounce back in Saturday's preseason finale at Lambeau Field.

"Last week was great. … We were efficient and then now you get skunked, and I've not gotten skunked in my life," Clifford said. "So that's very humbling. I'm not gonna walk out of here with my head down. I'm gonna make sure that I put my best foot forward my whole week. There's gonna be mistakes and there's gonna be some tough conversations when it comes to some of those plays."

Hopper leads defense in debut: Rookie linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper led Green Bay with a game-high 11 tackles in his first NFL appearance.

The third-round pick out of Missouri missed last week's game against the Browns due to an ankle injury. With Walker, McDuffie and Cooper out of the lineup, Hopper even had a chance to wear the communication helmet and relay calls.

"I take a lot from it. I was able to learn a lot of things, see a lot of different things that I haven't seen before," Hopper said. "I feel like this will definitely be a plus being able to get those reps. Just learn from my mistakes and learn from the things that I did well, too."

Undrafted rookie linebacker Ralen Goforth sustained a concussion in the second quarter, leading to both Hopper and Welch seeing increased snaps in the second half.

An emotional night for Tyler Davis : In his first NFL game in more than a year, the fourth-year tight end was selected as one of Green Bay's three captains for the coin toss.

It was a meaningful honor for Davis, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament just minutes after scoring a touchdown in a preseason game last August against Cincinnati.

While disappointed with the outcome, Davis was grateful for the opportunity.

"It was emotional to say the least; definitely shed some tears in pregame," Davis said. "To be out there with my team again, be out there with my guys, that's what meant the most to me.

"Just being out there and everybody coming up to me and just (saying they) couldn't wait to see me play, that meant the world to me because they saw how much I worked for it. They want to see me do well. It was special to be back out there."
