Dear Sir/Madam, 

I am enclosing the application and the documents herewith for the extension of stay for my parents who are currently in the US on a B-2 tourist visa. According to their current I-94, their authorized stay expires on 02/28/2022. However, they would like to extend their stay in the US until 06/05/2022.

Since they are elderly, they have not been able to make extensive travels as it would be very exhausting for them. Moreover, my work schedule and commitments don’t allow me to take multiple longer vacations in a short duration. During their current stay, they have seen several places on the east coast. However, they are yet to see many other famous tourist locations in the western United States, such as Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Hollywood, Disneyland, San Francisco, etc. Since they are getting older, they may not be able to visit us again. Therefore, I would like to show them tourist destinations in the western United States during this visit itself.

During their extended stay, they will continue to stay at my house located at 123 Park Avenue, Iselin, NJ 08830, and I will continue to provide all financial support to them during that time.

Please find the following documents enclosed herewith: * Copies of Form I-94 * Copies of all pages of passports * Copies of Return airline tickets * Proof of financial support including  Form I-134 , bank statements, employment letter, recent paystubs and account verification letter from the bank

Please note that my parents have strong ties to India. They have their business, other children, grandchildren, and other family in India. They have absolutely no intention to stay permanently in the USA. I assure you that they will promptly return to their home in India before the end of their authorized extension of stay.

Therefore, I respectfully request you to approve their extension of stay and provide us with an extended I-94.

Tourist Visas are not exclusive for the rich, the working, or those with businesses. How about those unemployed, can you apply for a tourist visa? Of course, you can; however, you need to prove your ties, your financial capacity and your purpose. If you are not working, don’t be afraid to apply. Don’t be too negative and think that you will be immediately rejected if you are unemployed. In this article, we will give you some tips and suggestions on how to pass and get your visa. This will include extra documents you might need. Just take note that you must prove that you are there for tourism; meaning no working, no looking for jobs, or no living permanently. 1. Make a Cover Letter

If you have no work, one document that can explain your situation is the cover letter . Here, you can enlighten the Embassy as to why you are unemployed; e.g. you are a housewife/husband, you just resigned, or your contract recently ended, and you want to travel, etc.

You can also tell them where your funds are from; your savings, a sponsor, etc. For those who want to take a sabbatical leave to travel, you can show your travel history (stamps and visas). Don’t forget to mention your purpose and that you will surely come back to the Philippines.

2. Prove that you are Financially Capable of Travel

Another important thing is your financial capability. Since you don’t have work, you need to show that you have enough funds to travel . You can show your savings and where you got them. So, for example, you’re an OFW, and your contract has just ended, then you can show your previous work contracts. Another, if you have a past business, then you can show your certificates, etc.

However, if you don’t have enough money to travel, then you can check our guide on applying without a bank account . One tip there is getting a sponsor; it may be your family member, relative, or loved one. You’ll need to pass their financial documents as well as your Guarantee or Sponsorship Letter in the format given by the embassy if there is one. Also, a proof of relationship is submitted; e.g. Marriage Certificate , Birth Certificate , or conversations, pictures, etc.

In case your boyfriend or girlfriend is sponsoring you, it’s better if you have already met or been together. The Embassy, like our country’s immigration officers, doesn’t like trouble, and going with a person you don’t know much might get you red-flagged as a person to be likely trafficked. So it’s better if you let your partner visit first or have a good travel history.

3. Have a Proof of Rootedness in the Country

The key to being approved for a tourist visa even for unemployed applicants is that the embassy is confident that you will come back to your home country. You can show your deep ties to the country if you have properties, children, or pets! Aside from that, you can also show them other sources of income like investments, rental of properties, gigs, etc. Don’t forget a flight ticket back to your home country .

You could also prove that you have other activities, like hobbies or clubs, organizations you are a member of. State it in a cover letter and also show some proof. Like for example, “Even though I am unemployed, I am a member of the Liturgy Ministry in our Church. We have monthly assignments, and I will be scheduled to serve a few days after my tour.”

4. Attach Tourism Related Documents

To also demonstrate that you are doing tourism-related activities, you could attach a detailed travel itinerary, hotel bookings, attraction bookings, etc. This will let the Embassy know that your intention is to travel around their country and not to look for a job, especially as you are unemployed. Those bookings will be very helpful.

5. Prepare for your Interview

In case you get interviewed before getting a tourist visa, the US, for example, you can practice answering questions. Here’s a list of sample questions and answers for B2 (Tourist) US Visa. You will probably ask “What’s your purpose of traveling?” “ Who is paying for your trip? ” “ Why are you not working? ” Don’t answer too shortly, you need to elaborate your answer. Like for example: “ Why are you not working? ”

I just resigned from my job. – It’s too short, and this will lead to another series of questions, instead, say)

I recently resigned from the company I have been working with for five years. Before looking for another job in the Philippines, I think I deserve a break. So, I’ve decided to travel to the US using the savings I got from working. – Unlike the first one, this explains much more about your situation and the interviewer can go from there.

6. Gather complete documents

Check the requirements for the Tourist Visa Application. In case you don’t have Bank Statements or Bank Certificate asked, as per number 2, have a sponsor or proof of financial capacity . If you are also missing things, use your cover letter as to why you don’t have those. You can also attach numbers 1 to 4, so that your application is strong, meaning there’s not much loopholes or reasons as to why you will be denied.

Make sure that the rest of your documents are also valid, like for example your passport’s validity is at least 6 months valid from your departure. Your application form is also complete, and the details are the same as your supporting documents, etc.

7. Follow Instructions

After you have gathered all of your documents, follow instructions on how to apply for a tourist visa. If you need to use a travel agency like Japan and South Korea, then get one. If you need an appointment like Schengen, US, Canada, or UK, then book one at the Visa Application Center. If you need personal appearance, then do so.

Those are our tips on how to apply for a tourist visa if you are unemployed or not working. It’s not impossible to be approved for a tourist visa. Bear in mind that your purpose is really to travel there and not to be TNT or an illegal worker. Prove to the embassy that you will indeed come back. Hi! I am planning to go on a trip to Australia as a tourist kaso my income is about ₱15,000 a month. Would that affect my application even if I show enough funds to cover for my expense via bank deposits. I do plant to fund the travel myself and would be taking a leave from work. That’s a bit hard po if “kunin” yung term mo, as it implies you will live there and work there po; and that’s a red flag pag-UK. It’s better to tour nalang for a few days and have strong proof of ties in the Philippines . Or if gusto mo mag-work doon, apply for a job muna and get hired.

What’s the point, are there different types of visa cover letters.

​Likewise, a cover letter for a visa concerning medical reasons will require documents related to diagnosis, treatment, etcetera. The  visa cover letter  is often not mentioned in the list of required documents although it’s  necessary  for all circumstances. Remember, the  consulate  reserves the right to request additional documents at any point during the application process.

​Is there anything else I should know?

There are some other things too. It’s best to treat the process as if it’s a  job interview , i.e. to be professional and courteous, to arrive prior to your scheduled appointment, and so on. The embassy staff are there to help you with the process, but it’s best to approach the situation almost as if you’re there to help them.

Travelling through the  Schengen area  you will certainly notice that some countries are much stricter than others. Some consulates may not accept reservations from websites that allow for last minute cancellation while others may. If you are planning to go anywhere outside the country of entry within the  Schengen   area , the embassy you are applying to must know about it.

You will have to choose between a  single-entry or a multiple-entry visa  on your application form. A Schengen Visa Cover Letter (or Covering Letter) is a document written by you and addressed to the Schengen Embassy/Consulate along with the other documents you are required to submit. 

The letter should provide additional information concerning the purpose of your trip and your intentions to return to your country of residence. 

The letter acts as a personal introduction as it shows to the Embassy/Consulate officers a brief summary of your travel background (e.g., travel dates, employment background, etc.). 

In other words, your cover letter is a summary of your Visa application . 

Your Covering Letter For Schengen Visa Is The First Direct Contact Between You And The Embassy

The cover letter represents a way of communication between you and the embassy officer, in which you are explaining your reasons for your trip and why you should be accepted. 

Please note that some Embassies/Consulates have chosen to outsource the Visa application process meaning that you have to submit your application through an outsourcing company such as VFS Global. 

In this case, your cover letter is your only chance to communicate with the Embassy/Consulate officers and explain your details and the reason why you believe they should grant you a Visa as well as your intentions to only travel and not to overstay your Visa, as they will not be able to see you face-to-face.

This letter is not a mandatory requirement meaning that the applications that do not include it will not necessarily be rejected or delayed. 

However, we strongly recommend and urge you to submit it as it does more than make a good impression on the Embassy/Consulate officers and speed up your Visa application process – Your cover letter can significantly increase your chances of success because it summarises every item you have provided. 

You should submit a Visa application cover letter even if you have been invited by a partner company to the Schengen Region and you are applying for a Business Visa .

The Importance Of The Schengen Visa Cover Letter

The cover letter is an important document as it gives you the chance to introduce yourself and make your travel purpose clear. 

The letter is important for your application because:

● It gives you the opportunity to provide information that your other documents cannot provide.

Most of the documents that you must submit are official documents that cannot clearly highlight your travel background. 

In other words, your covering letter is the only document that can actually tell a story. 

Telling a story can be a powerful communication tool because the Embassy/Consulate officers can understand who you actually are and why you should get a Visa.

Embassies/Consulates receive hundreds of applications weekly.

How To Get A Schengen Visa Cover Letter

Getting most of your Visa application documents depends on bureaucracy/laws in your country of residence/other people that must write and sign your documents. 

The cover letter is the only document that you must write and sign by yourself (together with the Visa Application Form and your day-to-day travel itinerary ).

Once you have gathered all of your documents, you can write the letter on your computer. 

We recommend you write it after you gather the rest of your documents because the letter should include a list of the documents that you are submitting for your application.

Common Mistakes To Avoid When Writing A Schengen Visa Cover Letter

Even though the cover letter should not be very long and must contain only key information about you as an applicant, there are several mistakes that you should avoid making. 

Also, do not forget that the cover letter does not have to be too long and the information on it must match the information on your other documents .  

Not all the below errors can lead to the rejection of your application but your chances of approval may decrease. 

Therefore, we strongly recommend you double-check your covering letter before submitting it so that you can be sure it does not contain one of the following mistakes:

• Not using logical arguments to explain the purpose of your trip and your intentions to return to your country of residence

Logical reasoning is a powerful tool not only for your covering letter but also during the interview with the Embassy/Consulate officers. 

Make sure you know how to explain the reason as to why you travel to the Schengen Region and your intentions to return to your country of residence. 

For example, “ I want to visit France because I like it ” or “ I want to visit France because it is a nice country ” are not logical reasons as to why you want to visit France (or another Schengen country). 

You should be more specific. For example: “ I want to visit France because I’ve been fascinated by French culture ever since I was a child ”. 

The same rule applies to the explanation of your intentions to return to your country of residence. Writing “ I will return to my country of residence because I cannot stay in the Schengen Region ” is not a logical reason as to why you will not overstay your Visa. 

You can write instead: “ I will return to my country on August 15 because my employer did not allow me to take more than 3 weeks off ” or “ I will return on September 20 because I must attend a vocational training course upon the request of my employer .”

• Providing the same information that is already outlined by your other documents

One of the purposes of your covering letter is to outline details about your trip that are not indicated by your other documents. 

For example, in case of a tourist Visa application you should not write: “ I will be travelling to France between October 20, 2020, and November 17, 2020, and I will stay at Hotel Lafayette in 23 Rue des Messageries, Paris .” 

Of course, this information is important because it shows relevant details about your trip but the Embassy/Consulate officers can easily understand your trip details by checking your flight and hotel reservations. 

As we mentioned above, you should try to tell a story in your covering letter (even though you have to maintain a professional tone). 

For example, you can write: “ I will be travelling to France between October 20, 2020, and November 17, 2020. I have chosen to spend almost one month in France as I strongly believe that I need time to visit the most important tourist attractions and get to know the French culture. I will stay at Hotel Lafayette in 23 Rue des Messageries because the hotel is located within walking distance of the most important places of interest in Paris.”   

• Submitting a cover letter that contains spelling mistakes

Not all applicants have an excellent command of English, and the Embassy/Consulate officers won’t judge you if you make some grammar mistakes (especially because it is highly likely that English is not their native language).  

But a covering letter that contains too many spelling mistakes and does not follow some specific layout rules (the way that words are set up on the page) will make the Embassy/Consulate officers believe that you do not have a sense of consideration for the event and are not respecting the application process (which is your Schengen Visa application). 

Therefore, you need to pay attention to the spelling, punctuation, capitalisation, and layout of the letter. 

Please read carefully the two cover letter sample paragraphs below (please note that none of them is a complete sample cover letter and you need a more detailed template/sample in order to write a cover letter for Schengen Visa application):

Sample 1: 

“Dear sir madam I would like to apply at your consulate general for a schengen visa for visit friend in Netherlands.

My name is raji anand. I will be travelling from new delhi to amsterdam between octobr 15 and November 17  My employer has already approved my vacation and leave from work for the duration of 1 months. I hold an Indian passport no xxxxxx and I have attached passport size pictures to these cover letters. please do not hesitate to contact me for more information !Thanking you in advance, Raji anand. ”

“Dear Visa Officer,

I would like to apply for a Schengen Visa upon my intention to visit the Netherlands between October 15, 2020 and November 17, 2020.

My name is Raji Anand and I am an Indian citizen. I will be travelling from New Delhi to Amsterdam to visit my close friend, John Smith, who has also provided a sponsorship letter to support my Visa application as he will be covering all of the expenses for the duration of this trip.

I have attached to this letter the following documents [List of documents] .

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any questions and clarifications.

Bad spelling and writing mistakes (like the ones in the first sample) will make you seem less credible and the Embassy/Consulate officers may believe that you do not have a sense of consideration for your application process. 

At the same time, attention to details such as spelling, punctuation, and capitalisation (as shown by the second sample that we provided as an example) will make the Visa officers think that you are an organised and responsible person who put effort into preparing the Visa application.  

• Not presenting the list of documents you are submitting in order of priority

Show the Embassy/Consulate officers that you are an organised person. 

You should mention the list of documents that you are submitting for your application in order of priority (and not randomly). 

Start with the documents that are mandatory for all applicants no matter their personal situation (application form, passport, insurance, etc.) and then add the documents that are mandatory according to the purpose of your trip (e.g., hotel reservations ,   flight reservations , and travel itinerary – if you are applying for a tourist visa) and the documents that are mandatory according to your personal situation (e.g., employment contract , No Objection Certificate (NOC) Letter from your Employer, payslips , your bank statements , etc. – in case you are employed and you pay the expenses for your trip by yourself).

• Submitting a Cover Letter that does not align to information and facts provided in other documents

The details and reasons outlined within your cover lettering must align to the same information and evidence you have provided in every other document you are submitting. 

If you contradict or state a point in your letter that does not align to the documents you provide to the Embassy/Consulate, you could jeopardise the entire application, which may cause your Schengen Visa to be rejected.

For example, if in your cover letter, you outline that you are travelling to stay with your family who lives in Italy but you do not include an invitation letter or sponsor for accommodation letter from them, then it contradicts the information in your application. 

Another example is that you say you are traveling for tourism but then you have an invitation letter from a business in your documents. Or, when your passport number and other personal details in your letter do not match the details in your other documents.

The Single Entry Tourist Visa allows foreign nationals a single entry into Thailand for tourism, leisure, or medical purposes, with a validity of 3 months from the time of approval. This means that travellers have 3 months to enter Thailand from the date their visa is approved. When arriving in Thailand, a permit to stay for 60 days will be stamped in the passport.

The cost of a single-entry tourist visa varies from country to country, but it is generally estimated to be between $30 and $50 USD. Many embassies only accept payment in USD, so it is important to confirm the cost and accepted currency with your local Embassy or Consulate.

Sir Keir Starmer has met with Joe Biden in the White House.

The pair have been pictured together in the Oval Office laughing.

Sir Keir Starmer is set to address the NATO summit tomorrow, speaking at a session on Ukraine.

He will say: "NATO was founded by the generation who defeated fascism. They understood not just the value of our strength, but the strength of our values.

"Those values are under attack once again. Putin needs to hear a clear message ringing out from this summit – a message of unity and determination, that we will support Ukraine with whatever it takes, for as long as it takes to uphold our shared values and our shared security."

Sir Keir will also recommit to the £3bn per year support package for Ukraine promised under the previous government.

It follows today's announcement that the UK will be part of a £40m package to provide vital assistance to Kyiv - including on drone protection.

And a fresh order of 120,000 artillery shells, worth £300m, will also be placed by the UK-administered International Fund for Ukraine.

Overcrowding in Britain's prisons is one of the domestic crises facing the new government, one which saw the previous Tory administration allow for the early release of some prisoners.

Sir Keir Starmer had pressed Rishi Sunak to guarantee this wouldn't include any high-risk inmates - and has been asked whether he can make the same promise now he's prime minister.

Speaking from the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington DC, the PM said: "We will make a statement, in relation to this in coming days."

Sir Keir said this would include the question of "risk categories", and "what we intend to do about it".

Thousands of inmates could be let out early

It comes after Sky News reported an announcement was due in the coming days.

Sky News understands one of the core proposals being considered is a lowering of the automatic release point, from the 50% mark in an inmate's sentence to 40% or 43%.

At the moment, prisoners serving standard determinate sentences - those with fixed end dates - are released at the halfway point.

Once released, they serve their sentence on licence - meaning they are supervised by the probation service in the community and must stick to certain conditions.

A lowering of the automatic release point could mean thousands of additional inmates being let out early.

Mark Icke, president of the Prison Governors Association., said they welcomed the announcement.

He said: "We look forward to the government announcing their proposed measures and are hopeful that it will be an approach that is clear and can be effectively delivered by staff in prisons and the probation service. 

"We're hopeful that the penal populism of the last government is a thing of the past and that the new government is willing to invest in our service so that we can effectively protect the public by reducing the likelihood of reoffending by those in our prisons and under supervision in the community."

Following the meeting of NATO leaders, a declaration has been agreed by the members and published.

Part of this is in support of Ukraine.

It starts off by saying: "We fully support Ukraine's right to choose its own security arrangements and decide its own future, free from outside interference.

"Ukraine's future is in NATO."

The countries note that Ukraine is working to meet the requirements to join the alliance.

The declaration goes on to say: "As Ukraine continues this vital work, we will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership.

"We reaffirm that we will be in a position to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the alliance when allies agree and conditions are met."

The declaration repeats criticisms of Russia, and calls for it to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

In the last few minutes, England beat the Netherlands to make it through to the final of Euro 2024.

Downing Street has confirmed Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will be attending the match in Berlin on Sunday.

Sir Keir managed to watch part of tonight's match despite being at a NATO summit in the US.

We've been focusing on the NATO summit in Washington this evening, as Sir Keir Starmer carries out his first engagement on the world stage as prime minister.

Here's what you need to know:

• Sir Keir Starmer has held his first meetings with world leaders at his first NATO summit as prime minister, including with Germany's Olaf Scholz and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy;
• He has also taken part in a NATO council meeting, and been pictured alongside Joe Biden and Jens Stoltenberg;
• As well as the summit itself, Sir Keir will also be heading to the White House for talks with Mr Biden  - where he and his wife Victoria will also join a special dinner tonight with other leaders and their partners;
• The PM has also found time to watch the England match with his Dutch counterpart.
• But the PM is under pressure to set a timeline for  when the UK will hit the defence spending target of 2.5% of GDP  given he wants NATO allies to spend more too;
• Our defence and security editor Deborah Haynes says the government being non-committal on a timescale will look weak to both its allies and foes;
• Nonetheless, our US correspondent Mark Stone reckons Sir Keir will be a welcome presence at the summit, given it comes less than a week after his landslide election win at a time when other Western leaders are struggling.
• The Conservative Party leadership competition plunged into further chaos, with rivals Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch clashing on social media;
• Former Tory MP and minister  James Heappey revealed who he thought should be in the running to replace Rishi Sunak - and encouraged his party not to get in a battle with Reform;
• Rishi Sunak appeared before backbench Tory MPs, and once more apologised for his party's performance in the election.

As part of his visit to the US, Sir Keir Starmer has met political leaders in Washington.

This includes the US Republican speaker of the House Mike Johnson, and the Democrat minority leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Sir Keir is set to meet Joe Biden later this evening.

Sir Keir Starmer, the prime minister, has taken a step away from the NATO summit to catch up on the football.

He has shared a video of himself and his Dutch counterpart Dick Schoof watching the Harry Kane penalty.

As Sir Keir says in the tweet, he "picked the right moment" to watch.
