StatsBomb Release Free Lionel Messi Data: PSG And Inter Miami
As part of our commitment to supporting the development of the grassroots analytics community, we regularly release free datasets of our industry-leading event data for budding analysts to work with.
In the last 12 months alone, we've released:
This latest data-drop brings us to 2,000 games released for free in 2023 alone. And that's not including the recent Tom Brady Data Biography that we've started publishing on the American Football side of the business, containing event and tracking data for TB12.
The Lionel Messi Data Biography was the first public data release we ever did, containing every single league match from Messi's career. But, up to now, it's only contained the Barcelona era from 2004 - 2021. Today, we're rectifying that by releasing the missing 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons from Paris Saint-Germain and the 2023 season from Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
Accessing The Data
It's now possible to analyse how effectively Messi's skills transferred from the familiar environment of Barcelona to the new surroundings in Paris. In his first season, Messi contributed a modest 19 goals + assists (six goals, 13 assists), but backed it up with a 16 goal, 14 assist season in 2022/23.
Then the move to Inter Miami came about. For now, there are only six appearances worth of MLS minutes to analyse of Messi's time with Miami. It'll be interesting to see to what extent his skillset declines, if at all, as he enters the twilight of his career.
Lastly, it’s important to note that if you intend to publish your work on social media – which we greatly encourage you to do if you want your skills to be noticed by professionals – then please do remember to abide by our user agreement and credit StatsBomb as your data source when doing so.
