PANDEMIC: A CASE STUDY OF ONLINE TEACHING ACROSS VARIOUS PARTICIPANT GROUPS IN THE INDIAN CONTEXT

The world of education, learning and teaching has undergone drastic transformation with the killer pandemic hitting all cross sections of the society. Teachers in India have adopted new pedagogical methods for online teaching to engage students to achieve learning objectives. Technology and internet connectivity are now the basis for online and peer learning. Role of faculty is now evolving around creating a learning environment, encouraging interaction and provoking the spirit of enquiry and self-directed learning. The various limitations of online engagement owing to technology, student learning environments and motivation are the key challenges in online teaching. Going forward in to the future online teaching will remain mainstream considering its strategic advantages and in providing flexibility to students and faculty members. The whole eco system is undergoing change and all the stake holders are required to align or perish in the emerging circumstances. Corporate are maximising engagement and productivity enhancement through online training initiatives. This case study throws light on the dimensions of online learning and learning via virtual classrooms.

This work is an attempt to explore aspects of online teaching and its related impact from the perspective of stakeholders in education. The paper outlines faculty experience and effectiveness in the online teaching environment, perspective requisition of students, and the support and resource building called for from academic leaders. We use observations, viewpoints, practical steps taken or needed by higher education institutions and universities in India. The primary and secondary data are content analysed and are further informed by literature. We state that academic leadership, collaborative peer learning, know-how of digital technology and online learning tools, training of faculty, dean review, readiness of students and discourse are important to create an ecosystem for effective online teaching. The unforeseen emergence of COVID-19 pandemic compelled academic institutions worldwide to shift from the physical mode of teaching to the online mode. This rapid and unexpected transition from face-to-face to online teaching has not only entailed a number of challenges and constraints but also opportunities that need to be examined. The primary objective of this study is to examine the current landscape of the online teaching mode, compare various aspects of its implementation with the conventional offline teaching mode and discover strategies to ensure continuous enhancement of the teaching learning process whether the teaching takes place online, offline or in a blended manner. To find out the teachers' attitude towards online learning, primary data has been collected from teachers teaching in various colleges and universities in Delhi/NCR and other regions of North India through Google forms using convenience sampling. The study concludes that online learning makes the teaching-learning process student-centered, innovative and flexible. Online mode is not in a position to replace the offline mode but could compliment the same in a number of ways. The present study brings out interesting findings and implications for the teachers and educational institutions and identified innovations and new developments in terms of delivering online content more effectively and presented ideas to integrate the new modes. The study also identifies key problems encountered by teachers in the online mode and proposes actionable recommendations to address the same.

Teacher education is the corner stone for improving quality of education in India. The teacher education programs have to take the first step towards realizing this goal and provide highly trained teachers who are capable of taking on the challenges of the present and the future. The most immediate transformation that the education system is undergoing today is the blending in of educational technology for the purpose of teaching and learning. One of the dimensions of educational technology is online learning technology and student teachers should be prepared to integrate it into their teaching and learning practices. There is a vast array of online learning resource that the student teachers can freely access and benefit from. Having at least a familiarity with online learning environments is extremely essential for the student teachers not only during their pre-service training but also for their in-service trainings in the future to be in the mainstream of the requirements of the changing society. There is also tremendous scope for them to use online learning environments for teaching purposes. However, their access and exposure to these resources seems to be very limited. This study analyzes the extent to which the student teachers are aware of the online resources and are able to use it for the teaching and learning purposes. It highlights the present status of the teacher training programs regarding their knowledge and involvement with online learning technology.

PARADIGM SHIFT AND CHALLENGES IN DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION: A JOURNEY THROUGH COVID TIMES

Since the advent of the unprecedented global pandemic Covid19 in March 2020 and due to the nationwide lockdown, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are completely shut-down for over 1.5years.Betwixt this socio economic in quietude, the TeachingLearning paradigm is radically shifted from the traditional classroom to online mode. HEIs are now compelled to continue their entire curriculum and activities using virtual platforms. This study has been conducted to assess the perception of immediate stakeholders of the HEIs towards the ultimate upshots of this new normal mode of education. The questionnaire has been prepared and data has been collected from the teachers and students of Kolkata and it’s sub urban areas during the month of June 2021. To empirically analyse the data Cronbach’s Alpha (test of reliability), Kendall’s and Spearman’s correlation coefficient, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk (test of normality) has been used. Findings of the the study states that learners and educators of HEIs are not completely satisfied as the process of virtual education is not yet methodically instigated in India due to paucity of any standardised Online Teaching Learning Framework. The HEIs and the educational policy makers thus need to grasp the impetus of learning curriculum, promulgate the amenities to reinforce its evidence- based practices in commensuration with sound mental health of the stakeholders.

For the past several years, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions around the world to close their doors and as a result, the academic calendar has been badly put on the line. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a global realization that the current way of the education system is not going to work and it needs serious reforms in developing countries like India where most of the curricula are designed for traditional offline modes of education. Online education is one of the most reliable methods that can help combat the inevitable crisis faced in India by the education sector due to COVID-19. There have been numerous challenges and opportunities created by the sudden change in teaching and learning methods. A critical analysis of the educational sector's impact during an Indian disease outbreak is presented in this article. Moreover, various aspects of how India approaches this critical situation through online education are discussed. In addition, the article provides information about how to handle the challenges of online education. The results of the investigation carried out in this paper indicate that majority of respondents are prepared to enroll and utilize the benefits of the online education system with few hurdles that need to be tackled by the government of India in order to spread this adoption to the masses.

The undergraduate and postgraduate studies of colleges and universities in India have been affected badly amidst the lockdowns for COVID-19 pandemic. The Government has insisted to start the academic activity through online platforms. The biggest concern for the academic institutions now is to select an appropriate e-learning platform. This paper compares different features and facilities available in some widely used online platforms and analyze their suitability from the perspective of socio-economic constraints of students in India. A generic framework for conducting online classes is described that meets the special requirements of the unprivileged students. Some strategic plans to overcome the challenges are identified and suggested. A technical solution for implementation of time-bound assessment module is also proposed.

This study has been compiled during the lockdown period due to the outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic in India. This work has been carried out at the time when the “work from home” initiative was announced by the Government of India, and all academic institutions were advised to take online classes. Observing the situation, research on establishing the online teaching system was conceived. In the second week of lockdown period, when there was an appeal for inviting ideas/suggestions, during the campaign launched by the MHRD, India 1 , this research work became even more certain of the academic transformation. Thus, the results of this study have proved the actual aspect of the online teaching-learning process. The predictions substantiated by fact may continue to come true in the future as well. These results have come about as a response of 310 teaching staff to the survey conducted and evaluated during the period.

The new education policy reforms in the academic year 2020 has faced many challenges due to the pandemic. The education ministry has introduced many reforms with the vision of reshaping the education system. The Education ministry has long term perspective till the year 2040. There are multiple changes in the education policy like renaming of MHRD to Ministry of Education. Academicians has analyzed the gap and challenges of online teaching – learning outcomes. This research paper focuses on the reforms and impact of online teaching mode. There are many innovation and according to the report released by KPMG India, the market for online education in India is expected to witness a spectacular growth of eight times in three years, i.e., from USD 247 million in 2016 to USD 1.96 billion in 2021. Such high growth in online education market is projected to be the outcome of increased number of paid online education users from 1.57 million in 2016 to 9.5 million in 2021.

e-Learning plays a vital role in the present technological era as it leads to the development of individuals along with that of the nation. The concept of e-Learning evolved in the late 1990s by keeping in mind the objective of enhancing the knowledge of people through the usage of interactive devices (Vora, 2020). Due to its flexible nature, the demand for e-Learning has been increasing day by day. Conventional learning doesn&#39;t necessarily give the expected outcome i.e. quality education. Also, conventional learning doesn&#39;t allow teachers to be present at many places at the same time-e-Learning can remove the barriers that are innate to conventional learning such as limited to the physical space of a classroom, time-bound, limited learning etc. e-Learning leads to the intellectual development of an individual (Vivekananda, 2017). In a country like India, e-Learning is a boon and plays a vital role in developing critical thinking skills among students. In the Indian context, the entire focus in e-Learning is on the development and implementation of new methodologies in the context of technologies such as gamification, mobile e-Learning, cloud-based e-Learning, micro-learning, internet of things etc. The current study aims at &#39;Unfolding Online Mode of Teacher Education in Context of Indian Education System&#39;. It is based on secondary data. Therefore, researchers did a review of the collected literature. In the present study, the research tool used for the analysis of data is content analysis and the research method is descriptive research. The findings of the study indicate that e-Learning is beneficial for all the stakeholders-teachers, learners, society and the nation.
