If i were you ill print it in A4 size because most/all documents printed in A4.

But do not over think this. Focus on important requirements.. There is no specific paper size for documents.

COVERING UP: THE COVER LETTER EXPLAINED (AND YES, IT’S CALLED A COVER LETTER)

Jul 27, 2016

First things first: the cover letter has been called a COVER letter for decades, and that one name works just fine. Do we really need another name for something that has a perfectly functional name already? No? Great, let’s stop calling it an APPLICATION letter then. Yikes.

But what is a cover letter, you might ask? Defined simply, the cover letter is a written (or typeset) correspondence included in a formal application. Applicants use it to inform their prospect employer’s recruitment team that they are interested in and qualified for a vacant position being advertised. It works similar to our definition of a “letter of intent”.

Cover letters have been in widespread use for the better part of the last century. Unfortunately, this art is beginning to show signs of being lost to the changing times especially since more employers are choosing to omit the cover letter from application requirements. They do this so that they can use a more efficient screening process.

So what do we need to rediscover about cover letters? Quite a few things, actually; and we’ve put them all together here for your convenience.

In days gone by, the cover letter was a professional gesture showing a person’s genuine interest to apply for work. Nowadays, employers with strict standards and codes of conduct still consider it a proper part of application documents, to the point that they reject resumés sent in without cover letters or applications with poorly-written letters.

How do we avoid poorly-written cover letters? The diagram above shows the various components of a cover letter. Let’s take a look; just follow the numbers.

1. Margins – Like any letter, margins make the document look neat and organized. Let’s throw paragraph alignment into this topic as well. Simple 1-inch margins on each side and at the top of the cover letter combined with left or justified paragraph alignment should make your cover letter appropriate for most companies in the Philippines. Of course, if the company being applied to requires a specific margin and alignment format, follow their requirement instead.

2. Dateline – All that’s needed for this part is to make sure that you’re printing out or sending a letter with the correct date. It has to be the same date that you’ll walk in to apply or the same date as when you’ll email your application documents to your prospect employer. It may not seem like much, but for companies with date- or time-sensitive operations this can be a pretty big detail.

3. Recipient/Addressee – This is where research comes into play. Find out the name of the person who will be receiving and reading your application documents, including their position within the company. Make sure to spell the company’s name and mailing address correctly. There’s nothing more embarrassing than showing the company that you don’t even know who they are. Getting this step right will help to ensure that you use the correct…

4. Salutations – There are 2 places where salutations can be said: after the address line, and after the body of the letter. These are used to show that you are addressing the recipient with professional respect. So for the love of all that’s good, try to avoid the clichéd “Dear Sir or Madam” and “To whom it may concern” because they’re pretty inconsiderate to the reader. Also, use a colon [:] instead of a comma [,] for the most proper way to punctuate the opening and closing salutations.

5. Main Body – This is where you introduce yourself and state your intention to apply. The greatest impact can be achieved through introducing yourself and sharing a short story of how you found out about the vacancy and the company, to show that you are genuinely interested. You can actually use keywords from their job ad and include them in the letter, to increase your chances of getting noticed even if they use electronic document screening software .

When describing yourself, be direct about your professional and educational background, your experiences and why you would be perfect for the vacant position and for the company. Also, avoid just enumerating your qualities and skills, because the reader can’t be expected to simply take your word for it without proof. Try to provide examples of tasks or projects and the results that you helped your team achieve.

At the end, reiterate your intention to apply and make it clear that you are hoping and expecting to hear from them after reviewing your application. Remember to thank them for their attention to your letter!

6. “From” line – This one is rather simple, really. Just make sure your name is spelled correctly and sign it legibly. That’s it.

7. Paper – The worst thing to do to a cover letter would be to print it on substandard paper. Make sure it uses the proper paper size in the word processor (letter, 8.5 inches by 11 inches), then print it on proper letter-sized bond paper using black ink. If that’s a bit pricey, especially if you need more than 1 copy, print an original copy on good paper and have it photocopied using the same kind of paper.

Do note that these guidelines apply to both hard copies of your letter and letters sent via email (except the part about paper quality.)

Despite all these things to keep in mind, the cover letter can be a powerful tool for shaping and changing career direction. With the proper use, it can become a functional added touch that sets an application apart from the rest. Don’t worry, if writing a cover letter is not really for you, it’s ok as long as the application requirements of your targeted employer don’t include it.

In case you do apply to a company that requires a cover letter, like some of the big names in the corporate world, remember that the letter can make or break your application. So go ahead, get in touch with your inner letter-writer and start reaping the benefits of this often-forgotten career-seeking tool!

What is Bond Paper: A Brief Overview

In the realm of paper, bond paper holds a significant position. Originally, it found its use in printing bond or debt certificates, hence the moniker. Created with durability in mind, bond paper exhibits higher-end characteristics that set it apart from regular paper. It’s heavier, stronger, and more resilient, making it ideal for documents that require a professional touch – think business letterheads, resumes or official reports.

Understanding the guts of bond paper also exposes you to its key feature – its basis weight, a crucial parameter indicating a paper’s density, typically defined in pounds (lbs). For bond paper, you usually see weights like 20, 24, or 32 lbs. This figure simply implies the weight of 500 sheets (a ream) of 17×22-inch paper. Unsurprisingly, as the weight increases, so does the thickness and sturdiness, fostering a more tangible sense of quality.

Buying Guide: Choosing the Right Bond Paper

application letter size of bond paper

When you’re in the market for bond paper, consider several factors to facilitate a high-quality print job. These include paper size, weight, and finish, to ensure compatibility with your specific project or printer.

1. Consider the Paper Size. Bond paper comes in various dimensions; the choice depends on your project requirements. For instance, the common sizes for bond paper are letter (8.5″ x 11″), legal (8.5″ x 14″), and ledger or tabloid (11″ x 17″).

2. Evaluate the Paper Weight. Bond paper weight, measured in pounds (lbs), directly affects the paper’s feel and durability. It ranges from 20lbs to over 100lbs. Lighter bond papers (20-24 lbs) work well for general office use, while heavier ones (28-32 lbs and over) suit presentations and formal documents.

3. Assess the Paper Finish. Bond paper offers different finishes such as wove, laid, embossed or linen. Each finish affects the paper’s look and feel; choose accordingly based on your project needs.

4. Check Printer Compatibility. Not all bond papers suit all printers. Confirm that your selected bond paper supports your printer model. For example, inkjet printers need bond paper with higher absorbency; on the other hand, laser printers work best with heat-resistant bond paper.

5. Ascertain Product Quality. The quality of bond paper influences the print quality and, by extension, the final look of your project. Look for features such as brightness, opacity, and archival qualities by reviewing the product specifications.

Remember, the right bond paper enhances a project, communicates professionalism, and ensures long-lasting results. Therefore, make smart choices when buying bond paper, keeping these factors as your guiding principles.

Role of Bond Paper in Sustainable Environment

Continuing from the significance of knowing bond paper characteristics and purchasing aspects, let’s delve into the environmental considerations. Foremost, bond paper’s role in supporting a sustainable environment relates closely to recycling and sustainable sourcing.

Specifically, bond paper gets a thumbs up for being highly recyclable. Unlike some paper types with special coatings or treatments that hinder recycling, it clears the hurdle with ease. In practice, it means it has a high likelihood of being reused, reducing the need for raw materials, primary production, and, by extension, the environmental damage connected with these processes.

Additionally, bond paper production often includes a certain proportion of post-consumer waste. What’s more, some reputable bond paper producers go an extra mile, incorporating into their manufacturing processes pulp sourced responsibly from certified forests. It implies a significant reduction in failed environmental sustainability attempts, as deforestation is mitigated, and sustainable forestry practices are enhanced.

Moreover, with reference to greenhouse gases, bond paper production has shown improvements in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions over the years, as a result of modern technological advancements and industry efforts. Though not entirely greenhouse gas-free, bond paper producers make an effort to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their operations.

Apart from these, it’s worth noting that bond paper’s durability gives it an environment-friendly edge. Given its robustness, bond paper effectively reduces waste, as needs for replications due to damaged or worn-out print jobs are minimized.

While aiming for high-quality print jobs, one can rest assured that they are also contributing to environmental sustainability by simply opting for bond paper. Therefore, continue to consider purchasing quality bond paper, and in doing so, you’ll not only have professional print outcomes but also play your role in fostering a viable environment.

In decision making, weigh these pros and cons, and choose wisely. Your choice impacts the quality of your prints, budget management, and even your environmental footprint.

Bond Paper: Beyond the Office Supply

Delving deeper into the realm of bond paper, it’s evident that this versatile medium transcends its common perception simply as an office supply staple. It branches out with applications extending far beyond regular office needs.

Its superior printability makes it a worthy contender for an array of applications. High-quality collateral materials, such as brochures and flyers, benefit from the use of bond paper. With its crisp printing ability, it gives color and text a sharp, professional look.

Its dimensional stability allows for precise layouts in architectural and engineering blueprints. Dimensions remain unchanged, despite changes in moisture or temperature, making it a valuable asset in the field of precision drafting.

However, bond paper grapples with a few setbacks. Cost becomes a significant consideration for businesses on a tight budget. It’s pricier than standard copy paper, and for mass printing exercises, expenses can pile up.

Printer compatibility surfaces as another concern. Not all printers accept heavier bond paper, adding an extra layer of complexity to the selection process.

The absence of water resistance, too, presents an issue. Exposure to moisture can result in ink bleeding or paper distortion, which might be a drawback for outdoor promotional materials or humid environments.

Lastly, the creative space with bond paper isn’t as broad. Lacking the flexibility and texture variations of other specialty papers might bottleneck more innovative printing projects.

Despite a few limitations, bond paper establishes itself as a viable choice beyond the realm of office supplies. Its versatility, superior printability, and sturdy attributes position it as a preferred choice in specific fields. But remember, it’s essential to consider its challenges – cost, printer compatibility, moisture resistance, and limited creativity – to make an informed decision.

So, you’ve journeyed through the ins and outs of bond paper. You’ve seen its strengths in durability and print quality, its eco-friendly nature, and its broad applications from brochures to blueprints. You’ve also taken note of its challenges, like cost, printer compatibility, and limited creative options. But remember, every type of paper has its pros and cons. The key is to understand your specific needs and weigh them against these factors. When used right, bond paper can be more than just an office staple – it can be the secret weapon in your print arsenal. Just remember to keep its limitations in mind and you’ll be set to make the most of this versatile paper.

Setting Paper Size in Word and Google Docs

Microsoft word.

Whether you are drafting an essay or creating a report, setting up your document to the correct paper size is crucial. In Microsoft Word , to set up a long bond paper size, you can click on the “Page Layout” tab, then the “Size” button, and choose the 8.5″ x 13″ size from the list.

Google Docs

In Google Docs , you can adjust the paper size by clicking on “File” and then “Page setup” in a new or existing document. In the “Page Setup” dialog, you can select the appropriate paper size.

Uses of Bond Paper

Bond paper is a versatile material that finds widespread use in various sectors. Here are some of its most common uses:

  • Printing : Bond paper’s smooth texture and durability make it ideal for everyday printing tasks.
  • Letterheads and Official Documents : Owing to its high-quality appearance and feel, bond paper is often used for letterheads and official documents.
  • Drawing : Uncoated bond paper is perfect for everyday drawing, as its lack of coating provides a less porous surface for the inks, leading to sharper text and images.

Origins of Bond Paper

The history of bond paper is as interesting as its uses. The name “bond paper” comes from its original use for creating government bonds , hence the term “bond”.

Interestingly, the standard size of bond paper is 17 by 22 inches, and it is often sold in a 20-pound weight. This refers to the weight of a 500-sheet ream of this size. However, before the paper is sold to consumers, it’s cut to the standard letter size of 8.5 by 11 inches.

It’s also worth noting that there’s a variety of bond paper known as “ rag paper ,” which is more durable and cloth-like, distinguishing it from the regular wood-pulp variety.

Whether it’s for printing your next report or crafting a stunning piece of art, bond paper is a versatile and reliable choice. Understanding its different sizes, uses, and the history behind it can help you appreciate this essential everyday material even more.

The English application: Cover letter

Cover letter: format and layout.

The cover letter must be clearly arranged and easy to read. Long sentences, insufficient line spacing and too many paragraphs are all inappropriate because they overload the letter. Bright colours do not belong in a cover letter nor does an overload of different colours, fonts, boxes, graphics and the like. Furthermore, you must ensure a consistent layout for both, cover letter and CV.

Font and size

An appropriate font size facilitates reading for the recipient. Choose a font size of 10 to 12 points and avoid fancy fonts. Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri are standard options. Note also that the font style and size on your cover letter should match those on your CV.

Paper format

In the US and in Canada, the standard cover letter is written on the letter format. This measures 21.6 cm x 27.9 cm and differs in size from the standard European A4 format, which is approximately 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter in length. Your best option is to set up the cover letter in this format at the beginning. This will save you the trouble of making adjustments to the layout later. You can use the A4 format for applications to the UK.

Final follow-up

At the end, check whether the layout is consistent throughout the document. The CV and the cover letter should not differ in terms of layout. It is advisable to show both documents to a friend: he/she might notice if the line spacing differs in parts, or if there are other layout mistakes.

Regardless of whether you are applying in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK, the cover letter must never be longer than one page.

  • Short and sweet
  • Simple and clear structure
  • Maximum length of one page
  • Consistent font and layout
  • Appropriate font size (10–12 points)
  • Avoid bright colours and graphics
  • Special letter format for US and Canada

Assume you wish to make a visual with graphic design software (such as Adobe Photoshop) and print it on long bond paper. In this instance, you must understand the pixel equivalent size of this sort of paper. By this, you would know  what size is long bond paper.

To convert the size of long bond paper into pixels, determine your image’s resolution first, then use the following formula: Pixels are equal to inches multiplied by resolution.

Assume your image has a resolution of 72 PPI (pixels per inch), which is the norm for online photos. To get the size of long bond paper for this image, multiply:

8.5 inches x 72 PPI = 612 pixels

Long Bond Paper Size Dimensions and MS Word Settings

Long bond paper is a popular paper size used in the Philippines and other parts of the world. It offers a range of advantages over other paper sizes and is widely used for various purposes. In this article, we will explore everything you need to know about long bond paper size, including its uses, dimensions, advantages, and printing guide.

Uses of Long Bond Paper

Long bond paper is commonly used in schools, law offices, and other private agencies. It is widely used for printing documents, such as contracts, legal papers, business letters, and academic papers. Its length and width make it suitable for printing forms, and other official documents. It is also used in printing books, manuals, and other lengthy documents that require multiple pages.

For many years, the Philippine government utilized long bond paper for its official documentation. However, on August 1, 1986, Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, s. 1986 was released, announcing that the government would be standardizing the size of writing paper used for all official communication and purposes. The use of long and short bond paper (8” x 13” and 8” x 10.5”, respectively) was no longer permitted, and instead, the government would be adopting the A4 size (210 mm x 297 mm), which is a metric measurement. This decision was made in compliance with various laws and regulations pertaining to standardization and the use of metric measurements in the Philippines, with the ultimate objective of promoting consistency and efficiency in government communications and processes.

Dimensions of Long Bond Paper

The standard dimensions of long bond paper in centimeters (cm) are 21.59 x 33.02 cm or 8.5 x 13 inches. In millimeters (mm), it measures 215.9 x 330.2 mm, and in pixels, it measures 2550 x 3900 pixels. The long bond paper is longer than the standard A4 paper size, making it more suitable for printing long documents.

Advantages of Using the Long Bond Paper

One of the main advantages of long bond paper is its length. It allows for printing longer documents without the need for stapling or binding multiple pages together. Additionally, it offers more space for printing tables, charts, and graphs, making it a suitable option for business and academic documents. It also has a professional look and feel, which is ideal for official documents.

How to Set the Long Bond Paper Size in MS Word

If you’re looking to print a document on long bond paper, you may find that Microsoft Word doesn’t automatically offer this option. This can be frustrating, especially if you’re working on an important project that requires specific paper size requirements. Fortunately, setting up a long bond paper format in Microsoft Word is relatively easy. In this guide, we’ll take you through the steps to set up the long bond paper in Microsoft Word, so you can print your documents with confidence.

To set up the long bond paper size in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Microsoft Word and create a new document. Click on the “Page Layout” tab at the top of the screen.

Step 2: Click on the “Size” button, which is located in the “Page Setup” group.

Step 3: Scroll down the list of paper sizes and choose the 8.5″ x 13″ option. If you cannot find it, scroll down and select “More Paper Sizes.”

Click Layout, Size, then choose the paper size.

Step 4: Your document will now be set up for long bond paper format. You can start typing or formatting your document as you normally would.

Once you’ve set up your document for long bond paper, you can print it just like any other document. However, it’s important to ensure your printer can accommodate this paper size before attempting to print. If your printer doesn’t support long bond paper size, you may need to adjust the paper size or use a different printer.

Long Bond Paper vs A4 Size

The table below highlights the main differences between long bond paper and A4 paper.

Long bond paper, also known as legal-sized paper, is bigger than A4 paper and is often used for legal documents and reports. A4 is the standard paper size used in most countries for letters, documents, and notes.

The long bond paper can be used in either landscape or portrait orientation, while A4 paper is primarily used in portrait orientation. The former has a higher print capacity than the latter due to its larger size. However, it is more difficult to fold and may not fit into standard file folders.

While A4 paper is an international standard, long bond paper is not. As a result, it may be more challenging to find it in some countries. It is generally more expensive than A4 paper due to its larger size and lower demand.

In terms of weight, long bond paper is heavier than A4 paper. This can make it more durable, but it can also make it more challenging to carry and store.

Overall, the choice between long bond paper and A4 paper will depend on the user’s specific needs. Those requiring larger print capacity or more durable paper may prefer long bond paper, while those needing a standard size for everyday use may prefer A4 paper.

It is important to note that while the long bond paper size is widely used in the Philippines and some other countries, it may not be the standard paper size in other parts of the world. Therefore, it is crucial to verify the appropriate paper size for specific documents, especially when dealing with international businesses and organizations.

In conclusion, long bond paper is a versatile and reliable paper size that offers several advantages for printing lengthy documents. Its dimensions make it ideal for various purposes, such as legal papers, business letters, and academic documents. By following the guidelines provided in this article, you can easily set the long bond paper format in Microsoft Word and your printer settings, allowing you to print professional-quality documents with ease.

Part of the ANSI standard

Letter is part of a set or range of page sizes, called the ANSI/ASME Y14.1 standard. This US standard was established in 1995. Two ANSI A pages next to each other in a spread equals the ANSI B paper size, which is also known as Tabloid or Ledger , depending on the orientation.

A4 size or letter size?

Hi everyone! Don't know if this sounds silly, but I was wondering which size of paper is best for printing out the filled-out forms and also the evidences. Confused between A4 size and letter size, or if any other size is better. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

tink23

I think the standard 8 1/2 x 11 would be best as that is what is normally used by most people on a daily basis. I imagine it may not really matter, but I would just go for the regular, letter sized, 8.5 by 11.

We did letter size, but i really thing that is not a big issue.

Jurjen

I suppose it doesn't make a big difference, as long as everything is well readable. A4 should do the trick just fine.

In India, the standard A4 size is 21.0cm x 29.7cm Whereas in Canada, the same A4 size won't be available and the size that comes is: 21.5cm x 27.9 cm I am facing the same issue with the mismatch in the sizes. I think as the group discusses, it should be fine. Thank you all

Hey guys. I had the same confusion as the papers (just the signature pages from each form) sent by my wife from India were A4, whereas the rest of the form pages I printed in Canada were letter size. By reading through the thread, I assume no one faced any issues with the mix of paper sizes within the forms itself? Appreciate any confirmation. Thanks

History of Chelyabinsk Oblast

People began to settle in the Southern Urals in the Paleolithic era. Bogdanovka site on the Ural River (Kizilsky district) is the most ancient archaeological site found on the territory of the region (about 70 thousand years). The age of Paleolithic layers in Ignatievka cave (Katav-Ivanovsky district), famous for its wall paintings, is about 15 thousand years. There are numerous archaeological sites of the Stone Age, settlements of the Bronze and Iron Ages.

In the 13th century, the territory of the Southern Urals was part of the Mongol Empire. Kesene mausoleum, preserved to our days near Varna village, is an outstanding monument of the late Horde time. The first Russian settlements in what is now the Chelyabinsk region appeared in the late 17th century.

Administratively the formation of the region began in the 18th century. It was the result of Peter’s I policy aimed at developing producing forces of the country and the expansion of its borders. This was reflected in the activities of the Orenburg expedition. For military and commercial purposes the expedition founded a number of fortresses, one of them was the fortress of Chelyabinsk (1736).

More Historical Facts…

In 1737, Isetskaya province was founded that included the northern part of the present Chelyabinsk region and the Kurgan region. In 1743, Chelyabinsk became the center of the province. In 1744, Orenburg gubernia was formed, it included Isetskaya and Ufimskaya provinces.

In the second half of the 18th century, mining and metallurgical areas of the Southern Urals began to grow rapidly. Several large mining plants were built, which became the basis for future towns. The first towns were Chelyabinsk, Verhneuralsk (1781) and Troitsk (1784).

In the early 19th century, most of the territory of the region was part of the Orenburg gubernia. Since the mid-19th century, Orenburg Cossacks started the rapid development of the steppe areas. New settlements were named in honor of the battles and victories of the Russian army: Varna, Fershampenuaz, Borodino, Paris and others.

After the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway (1891-1916), the province became the largest transportation hub connecting central Russia, the Urals and Siberia.

In 1919, Chelyabinsk gubernia was formed. November, 3, 1923, Ural Oblast with the capital in Yekaterinburg was formed. January 17, 1934, Ural Oblast was enlarged and was named Chelyabinsk Oblast. Later on, the territory of the region was diminished not once. In 1943, 32 districts were transferred to the newly formed Kurgan Oblast. After that, the borders of Chelyabinsk Oblast remained almost unchanged.

During the Second World War, this region played an important role producing metals, ammunition and military equipment. After the war, Chelyabinsk became the supplier of equipment and human resources for the restoration of Stalingrad, Donbass and other areas of the USSR.

In the 1950s, part of the territory of the region was subjected to radioactive contamination as a result of the accident at the plant for processing waste “Mayak”.

The collapse of the USSR had a negative impact on the economic situation in the region. From 1990 to 2000, rail transportation halved. In 1995, the decline in production in all sectors was 52%, in agriculture - 44%.

February 15, 2013 a relatively large meteorite flew over the territory of the oblast. It became known as the Chelyabinsk meteorite (diameter - about 17 meters, weight - about 10 thousand tons). The meteorite exploded in the vicinity of Chelyabinsk, at an altitude of 15-25 km. Several fragments of it fell in the area of Lake Chebarkul.
