Essay on Our National Flag 500+ Words
The national flag of India, frequently referred to as the “Tiranga,” embodies more than just a piece of colored fabric; rather, it serves as a potent symbol of our nation’s unity, diversity, and rich history. In this essay, we will delve into the profound significance of our national flag and elucidate why it elicits immense pride in every Indian.
The Colors of Unity
Our national flag holds profound meaning through its three vibrant colors. Firstly, courage and sacrifice are represented by the topmost color, saffron. Secondly, purity and truth are signified by the color white in the middle. Lastly, the color green at the bottom symbolizes growth and auspiciousness. Consequently, these colors together convey the unity of our diverse nation.
The Ashoka Chakra
At the center of our flag lies the Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, signifying the ‘Dharma Chakra,’ a symbol of righteousness and justice. Derived from the Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath, an ancient emblem of India’s rich heritage, this timeless representation holds a special place.
The Historical Journey
History steeped the journey of our national flag. The Parsee Bagan Square protest in Calcutta hoisted the first version of the flag on August 7, 1906. However, the Indian National Congress session officially adopted the flag we know today as the flag of the Indian National Movement on January 26, 1930.
A Beacon of Freedom
Our national flag played a vital role in our struggle for independence. It symbolized our determination to break free from British colonial rule. The hoisting of the flag on August 15, 1947, marked the dawn of a new era, a free India.
The Flag Code
In order to honor our national flag and maintain its dignity, the Indian government has established the Flag Code of India. Consequently, this code lays down rules and guidelines for the display and use of the flag, thereby ensuring that it is treated with the utmost respect
Celebrations and Observations
The national flag plays a pivotal role in numerous national celebrations and events. People proudly unfurl the flag during Republic Day, Independence Day, and other significant occasions, evoking feelings of pride and patriotism. Furthermore, it serves as a poignant reminder of our heritage and the sacrifices made for our freedom.
The Pride of Every Indian
Every Indian takes immense pride in our national flag. It unites us all, transcending differences in language, culture, and religion. When we see the flag waving high, it fills our hearts with a sense of belonging and love for our country.
A Symbol of Respect
Respecting our national flag is not just a duty; it is an expression of our gratitude to the countless freedom fighters who gave their all for our nation. When we stand still and salute the flag during the national anthem, we pay homage to their sacrifices.
Conclusion of Essay on Our National Flag
In conclusion, our national flag of India symbolizes our identity, our history, and our unity as a nation, rather than being just a piece of cloth. The colors, the Ashoka Chakra, and the historical journey all tell a story of courage, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom, weaving together a narrative. As proud Indians, we must always honor and respect our national flag because it represents the hopes and dreams of millions and serves as a beacon of unity and pride for generations to come.

100 Words Essay On Our National Flag
The National Flag represents our distinct identity as citizens of a sovereign nation. Each independent country has a distinctive flag. Our country's Flag is a representation of freedom and solidarity. On every national holiday, a government representative hoists the Flag. The Indian National Flag was officially adopted on July 22, 1947. The Tiranga, our country's Flag, is a gorgeously designed tricolor banner.
It is constructed of handmade Khadi garments. It is strictly prohibited to make the Indian Flag out of anything other than Khadi clothing. The National Flag is predominantly saffron, with white in the centre and deep green at the bottom. White colour represents truth and purity, green represents youth and vigour, and saffron represents sacrifice and selflessness.
200 Words Essay On Our National Flag
Saffron, white, and green are the three colours that make up the Indian Flag, also known as the Tricolor. On July 22, 1947, the Constituent Assembly took the Pingali Venkayya-designed flag. For Indians, the Indian Flag represents national pride and patriotism. To maintain respect for the Flag, there are rules about handling and showing it. According to the regulations, the Flag must never touch the ground or anything else underneath it. Additionally, citizens are not permitted to wrap it around their bodies.
Our country's Flag teaches us the importance of humanity, peace, and solidarity. It supports our faith in unity and truth. Mahatma Gandhi invented the handmade khadi clothing that makes up our country's Flag. Flying a national flag made of items other than Khadi is forbidden in our country.
For us, the national Flag represents bravery and inspiration. It prompts us to reflect on the sacrifices made by our outstanding Indian independence heroes. It reminds us of how endeavoring that time was for them. Gaining independence from the British was a struggle in which the whole country participated and fought for India’s freedom. We must always honor our Flag and never allow it to be destroyed in the service of our country.
500 Words Essay On Our National Flag
The pride of India is its national Flag, also known as the Tiranga. It is a crucial and essential element of the Republic of India. It is revered by the populace and symbolises the nation's sovereignty. It is flown on all Indian government buildings. At national holidays like Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day, and Republic Day, it is customary to raise the Indian Flag.
Background Of The Indian Flag
In 1947, Pingali Venkaiah created the Indian National Flag. It has a deep saffron rectangle with a navy blue wheel in the centre, sitting on top of a white canvas. This wheel also referred to as the "Wheel of Time," has twenty-four spokes that stand twenty-four hours a day. The uppermost green represents youth and energy. The white centre represents truth, peace, and purity.
In 1921, when the fight for Indian independence was still ongoing, Mahatma Gandhi had the concept of an Indian National Congress flag. The centre of the Flag included a spinning wheel representing Bapu's mission to empower Indians to produce their clothing. With time, the Flag's design changed and was improved. When India gained independence, the spinning wheel was changed to the Ashoka Chakra, the eternal wheel of law.
India's Constituent Assembly made a significant choice about the national Flag in 1947. The spinning wheel would remain in place, but an eternal wheel would be used instead. The country's advancement through countless centuries would be symbolised by the Ashoka Chakra, also known as Ashoka's wheel of law.
Importance Of Our National Flag
India's culture, civilisation, and history are reflected in its national Flag. The Indian flag is the symbol of freedom and pride. The sacrifices done by the freedom warriors to rid our nation of British tyranny is brought to the attention of the Indian people through the flag. Additionally, it encourages them to be modest and appreciate the freedom and independence they have earned after much effort.
A representation of the law of Dharma is the Ashoka Chakra, which is printed in the centre of the Flag on the white side. It implies that the primary guiding principles of individuals who serve the country must be Dharma or virtue. It also represents motion, encouraging people to continue despite difficulties and obstacles.
Codification Of The Indian National Flag
It is against the law to fly the Tiranga using anything other than Khadi or hand-spun cloth.
The Flag must never be lowered before anything and must always be flown high.
The people present must stand at attention whenever the Flag is in a marching column and salute as it passes them.
Thousands of people flew the Flag in Nagpur during peaceful anti-British protests in May 1923, and hundreds were detained. At the party's annual convention in August 1931, the Congress flag received official recognition and began to represent nationhood for India. At the same time, the stripes' current configuration and the substitution of a deep saffron colour for red were accepted.
Our pride is in our national Flag and since it represents the freedom obtained through years of adversity and sacrifice, it must always be flown high.

But did you know that every country has its own set of colours that are displayed in their national flags? And each colour symbolises a certain meaning and holds a value for the people of the respective country.
As for our national flag, it is a rectangular fabric and horizontally coloured with saffron at the top the colour is also called Kesari, white in the middle and green at the bottom. A navy blue Ashoka Chakra with 24 spikes is placed at the centre. This triband is also called ‘Tiranga’ which means tri-colour.
Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and a Gandhian ideologist, designed our national flag. It was first adopted 73 years ago on 22nd July in the year 1947 by the Constituent Assembly of India. When we were a republican and the same year when we obtained our independence. It has since been referred to as the Indian National Flag. And is representative of our nation on the world stage. In 1921, the idea for a flag was first proposed to the Indian National Congress.
The top saffron band denotes courage and strength that was exhibited by our young and new nation, the white band in the middle represents peace and truth. And the green band represents the growth, fertility as well as auspiciousness of our motherland.
The most striking symbol in our national flag is at the centre and the middle of the white band. The symbol is the Ashoka Chakra or the Dharma Chakra. Chakra means a wheel that further reinforces the idea that change is the only constant and our lives like the wheel must move ahead because in stagnation lies death. And of the fact that India should embrace change instead of resisting, as that makes the dynamism more peaceful.
This design of the chakra or the wheel is seen on the abacus of the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka or the Ashoka Pillar, with 4 lions on top, which is the National emblem of our country. Made during the Mauryan Dynasty by the emperor Ashoka- The Great.
It is really interesting to see that our Indian National Flag has gone through numerous changes since it was first originated. It was recognised or discovered during our struggle for independence. The evolution of the Indian National Flag has drifted through various alterations to come up to its present stage. In one way, it shows the development in the nation. Here, I am going to describe the historical milestones in the evolution of the Indian National Flag.
The first unofficial flag of India has hoisted in Green Park or Parsee Began Square in 1906 Calcutta. It was composed of three colours- red, green and yellow. The red strip had a symbol of the sun and a crescent moon. The word ‘Vande Mataram' was written on the yellow strip. And the green strip had eight half-open lotuses.
The second flag (Berlin Committee Flag) was hoisted in 1907 Paris by Madam BhikajiCama and her band of exiled revolutionaries. This flag was similar to the first flag but had only one lotus at the top strip and seven stars denoting Saptarishi. This flag was also exhibited in Berlin at the Socialists conference.
In 1917, the third flag went up. LokmanyaTilak and Dr Annie Beasant hoisted it during the Home Rule movement. This flag had four green and five red horizontal strips arranged alternately, with seven stars imposed on it forming Saptrishi. The left-hand top corner had Union Jack and the other corner had a crescent moon and a star.
During the political session of the All Indian Congress Committee at Bezwada now Vijaywada in 1921, the flag had two colours representing two major religious communities in India. It had red colour representing the Hindu community and green colour for the Muslim community. Gandhi suggested adding a white strip in middle representing all Indian communities and a spinning wheel for showing progress in the nation.
In the history of the National Flag, the year 1931 was a landmark. Revolutionaries started adopting tricolours in the national flag. This flag was similar to the present flag. It had saffron, white and green colour along with a spinning wheel at the centre.
The Constituent Assembly adopted the previous flag as the National Flag of Free India on July 22 1947. However, the spinning wheel was replaced with Ashoka Chakra in the present national flag.
Our National Flag also evokes a sense of patriotism, in every aspect of our country from its diversity in culture, rich heritage and history. There is no other country in the world as diverse as ours, and we must take pride in that. Unlike earlier when the use of our national flag was limited, today national pride can be expressed in many ways and many civilians do so by the use of Tiranga in our cars, homes, clothes and homes. Every time our flag is raised I am reminded of what a great country I was born into and our flag completely justify its representation.
Thank you.
