University of the People AHIST1401 Art History Unit 2 Written Assignment

Introduction The influence of the Greek and Roman style of the building have helped to revolutionize the world. Their distinctive building style can be seen predominantly in the area. The Greeks were the pioneer, after which the Romans were introduced to and went ahead to enhance the Greek building style and were able to create a niche for themselves. The objective of this essay is to compare and contrast the similarities and the differences the Greek Parthenon and the Parthenon from Rome.
The development of the Parthenon started around 447 BC and wrapped up 432 BC (the Parthenon n) it took almost 15 years for it to be completed. The goddess Athena, who was associated with wisdom, handicraft and warfare (Wikipedia n) who the Greek believed was their provider, was the one the Parthenon a sanctuary was dedicated and committed to. The development of the grand sanctuary was called for by Pericles who was a well-known politician of that. the main objectives were not really for worship but to demonstrate the control of the political party (History, 2019). The column of the sanctuary was long and narrow and this style is referred to as Doric (Parthenon n), whereas the column capitals were decorated with whirls. This particular style is meant for both columns and extra buildings. The building was constructed to have steps encompassing the rectangular shape on all sides. The pantheon was constructed after the Parthenon in 126AD. It was described as the sphinx of the Campus Martius (Ranogajec, P, n). it was supposed to be a private and sacred region of Marcus Agrippa Property. Around 609, it became a church and later serves a tomb for important personality. It is circular in shape, unlike the Parthenon which was rectangular. The front was
