Most students go for the Descriptive Paper for Tier 3 unprepared. And here is where the essay writing goes all wrong and they are not able to qualify it. Tier II and III play a decisive role in cracking SSC CGL in achieving your dream role. Hence, only those candidates who are securing at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination are eligible to appear in the Skill Test.
SSC CGL Descriptive Paper for Tier 3
The interview or the personality test has been replaced by the descriptive exam. It aims to test the aspirant’s proficiency in the language. This offline, pen and paper based exam aims to test on how a student formulates his or her ideas to form firm arguments and opinions on a certain topic. This essay writing carries the maximum weightage of around 40-60 marks.
The descriptive paper evaluates a student’s writing or communication skills. It determines how effectively a candidate conveys his or her ideas in a precise manner.
To qualify Tier III a candidate needs to score at least 33 marks. But without a proper strategy for essay writing, you could ruin your exam.
Essay Writing
Candidates often are in a dilemma while giving an informational and impressive touch to their essay in the exam. They stuck in a situation when they instantly try to represent all the related ideas that pop up into their mind. There is a set format that is required for the exam. It should be a composition that is summarized after drawing keywords and information regarding the given topic.
For instance, you need to cover topics like Demonetization, Caste Based Reservation in India, Climate Catastrophe, Social Media etc. and all the Current affairs based trending topics like the Doklam Issue, Bullet Train, or the Challenges After GST Implementation etc.
Practicing essay writing having a word limit is 250 words will not only boost your confidence but also makes you abound in words.
Prepare tips for the Essay Writing
- Read newspapers, articles, and magazines related to political issues. This would significantly increase your vocabulary and teaches your mind to form concrete ideas quickly. A good reading habit always improves writing skills.
- Hindi medium students should go for newspapers like Hindustan or Dainik Jagran and English medium students must read The Hindu, The Indian Express, Economic Times, etc.
- Reading editorials will teach you to get ideas and how to approach an essay.
- Read a good essay book, especially which is designed for this exam.
Tips for a better Performance in the Exam
- You need to be neat in your presentation or avoid cutting or overwriting. Your handwriting must be readable. If the marks allotter doesn’t know what you’ve written he would hardly allow you the marks.
- While writing the descriptive paper you need to avoid grammatical errors. Reading books like Wren and Martin can supply you with basic grammar rules. You can also go for books like Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis.
- If vocabulary is not very good, use simple words and phrases to properly explain your ideas. Pay heed to grammar and see that your language is correct.
- Don’t mention a quote by any famous personality to validate your points or point of view, if you don’t remember it properly. Also, use relevant examples.
- Practice is the key to your success. It will give you a control over the language, but also allow you to form comprehensive ideas. Follow some of these instructions to bring efficiency to your writing skills. For the sake of practice, select topics of your choice and write them with a limited time frame.
Two Points to keep in Mind
- You need to prepare an outline or diagram of your ideas, the body, and the introduction. W
- Write the conclusion and add the finishing touches.
A candidate would not be allowed to write any of details in the inner pages. He/she would not have to write the essay on a plain paper. Instead, the boxes will be provided. He/ she will be needed to fill the boxes with each of a single word forming the essay.
Note: Put in the Name, Roll No. Ticket No. and Signature in the required boxes. 250 words are the most accepted limit in an essay writing.
