'Oopiri' Review: Touching And Beautiful

'Oopiri' Review: Touching And Beautiful

Movie: Oopiri Rating: 3.5/5 Banner: PVP Cinema Cast: Nagarjuna, Karthi, Tamannah, Jayasudha, Prakash Raj, Kalpana, Ali, Nora,  Adivi Sesh, Anushka, Shriya and others Banner: PVP Cinema Dialogues: Abburi Ravi Music: Gopi Sundar Cinematography: P S Vinod Producers: Param V Potluri & Kevin Anne Direction: Vamsi Paidipally Release Date:  25 March 2016

One of the most awaited movies of this year is Nagarjuna and Karthi’s multi-starrer movie 'Oopiri'. With nearly Rs 60 Cr budget, this bilingual was shot lavishly in Paris and Belgrade and the trailer was a hit. Since Nagarjuna has delivered two blockbusters in a row, this movie has become hotter in the trade circles and created huge expectations.

How does the film fare?

Story: Vikram Aditya (Nagarjuna) is a billionaire who is paralyzed down the naval in an accident. He runs a big business and is assisted by able managers and a secretary (Tammanah) but he is looking for a caregiver. He wants a caregiver who shouldn’t be a mere physical help but someone who can cheer him up.

Sreenu (Karthi) who is out of jail applies for this job. Surprising his own staff, Vikram Aditya picks up Sreenu among all the applicants who come for the interview. What quality does Vikram Aditya see in Sreenu? How does Sreenu change Vikram Aditya’s life?

Artistes’ Performances: Nagarjuna is pillar of the movie. He has acted in highly challenging role of a person who is handicapped and can’t move his legs. Nagarjuna has given most matured performance.

But the real surprise and soul of the movie is Karthi. Karthi is perfect as street- smart guy. This is his first movie in Telugu; his dialogue delivery is commendable.

Tamannah is beautiful and her chemistry with Karthi is perfect. Jayasudha, Kalpana, Prakash Raj and host of other seniors have done their justice to their roles.

Technical Excellence:   Stunning view of Paris and beautiful visuals throughout the movie are the major feature of “Oopiri”. P S Vinod who also did the camerawork  for Nagarjuna’s “Manam” and “Soggade Chinni Nayana” has filmed the movie perfectly. His camerawork is the main highlight.

Other noteworthy work in the technical department is Gopi Sundar’s music. Songs are neat but his recording is the best. Runtime of the movie has exceeded two and half hours.

PVP Cinema has invested huge money to make a high quality movie. This is one of best directed movies in the recent times and all the credit goes to Director Vamsi Paidipalliy.

Highlights:

  • Story and Screenplay
  • Nagarjuna and Karthi
  • Terrific direction
  • Rich cinematography
  • Many touching moments
  • Quality production values
  • Perfect music
  • Too lengthy
  • Drags on towards the end

Analysis: The film is official remake of a French film called “The Intouchables”. When most of the Indian filmmakers are copying international movies, director Vamshi Paidipally and PVP Cinema have bought the official rights and adapted it, which is commendable.

The French movie was a blockbuster. Vamsi Paidipally has been faithful to the original story though he has done some changes which are superb to the say the least.

He has not changed the structure of the original movie. Two unlikely people meeting and forging a friendship is told in the most humorous way possible here. There are fun moments, there are daring acts, and there are sentiment scenes.

The first half of the movie is narrated in a fun way while the second half has more drama. Given the storyline, the film could have been a sentimental tearjerker but it is not. Director Vamshi Paidipally has balanced that on rightly.

When Karthi is helpless in his sister’s marriage issues, he pouring out to his emotions to Nagarjuna and the subsequent episode touches the heart. Very classy way of telling a scene by the director and writers. In the second half, when Nagarjuna feels the pain when Karthi leaves him, the scene also stands out.

The movie is filled with many emotional moments all the while keeping humor intact. This is the director’s movie. And Karthi’s show all the way. Despite length, “Oopiri” is one of the best made heart-touching movies in Tollywood. It is seeped with classiness.

Bottom-line: Classy Feel-good Drama

People who've rated this movie very highly have definitely not watched the original French version of it. The Telugu cast and remake is a pathetic attempt. The Telugu version feels incredibly fake and it's hard to tell at the end of it that the movie is based on a true story. The french actors and director did a far superior job, watching the original will make a lot more sense!

Oopiri Review

Oopiri Review

Oopiri Review, What’s Behind: King Nagarjuna playing a paraplegic is an enough factor to pull our attention towards the film which also has Karthi, Tamanna in leads. Directed by Vamsy Paidipally, this ‘Oopiri’ is largely inspired from French hit ‘The Intouchables.’ Known for lavish production standards, let us see how far PVP Cinema restored the soul from original?

Oopiri Story: Seenu (Karthi) is an Awara just out from prison on parole with help of advocate (Ali). Unable to mingle with his family (Mother Jayasudha and brother, sister), Seenu goes in search of a job and is selected as caretaker for paraplegic business tycoon Vikramadithya aka Vikram (Nagarjuna). Fed up with commiseration from people around, Vikram wants to live life on his own terms. So, he falls for the originality, openness and carefree attitude in Seenu which bonds them together. Meanwhile, Seenu goes on flirt the bewitching beauty Keerthi (Tamanna), Secretary to Vikram. How Seenu changes the life of Vikram and in turn how Seenu understands the real meaning of life in company of Vikram forms the rest of emotional narrative.

Oopiri Artists and Technicians: For any film, a basic theme or what we say soul is an important part to drive the screenplay. Vamsy Paidipally’s wonderful inclination in understanding ‘The Intouchables’ and valiant perspective to pick up Nagarjuna, Karthi for main leads has put the film on half way to victory. Rest lied in emoting the needed excellence from artists building the beautiful relationships between them. A wafer thin storyline with herculean message infused made ‘Oopiri,’ the real winner. Vamsy Paidipally’s adaptation from French original is just perfect. The emotional screenplay and every scene, every character knitted properly into execution isn’t an easy task. Hats Off to writing department for coming out with beautiful colors. PS Vinod camera work is a feast for eyes. Editing from Madhu is so smooth and doesn’t let you drift away from the emotional feel. Gopi Sundar composed a couple of excellent melodies and BGM is stood out as the best. Production values of Prasad V Potluri and PVP Cinema is a fresh breath.

Onto performances, Nagarjuna is just brilliant in a dignified character with lot many emotions expressed only through eyes. You are sure to connect with Vikramadithya. The actor to run away with major credits is Karthi. He is power house for entire show. His comic timing is impeccable and how come a Tamil actor drawing enormous ease in rendering Telugu dialogues will surely surprise us. He was spontaneous and natural. Tamanna is gorgeous and did the part effortlessly. Thanks for dubbing on her own. Prakash Raj does the role with grace and his transformation scene with Karthi is spellbound. Jayasudha is authentic and so are her family members. Tanikella Bharani, Ali added their part. Rest, everyone gave their best.

Oopiri Rating Analysis: The first area Vamsy Paidipally needs to be appreciated is stretching a 120+ minutes movie inspired from ‘The Intouchables,’ in fact the original ends just with our first half. Entire second half, although looks dragged but the way Vamsy locked each character into the screenplay wrenching a feel good emotion is superb feat. Nowhere, we find lose characters or waste episodes. Elements of friendship, son and mother family sentiment, beautiful romance and finally, the subject of rich Vs poor or the role of money Vs companion in our life are dealt with grace.

To summarize ‘The Intouchables’ in few words, you will laugh in joy; cry in painless heart pinching and take the exit door with a haunting feel good emotion. Despite there are few drawbacks in second half yet ‘Oopiri’ is a new experiment with a Telugu star hero and Tamil star hero joining as a team to deliver a top quality product. Emotions cannot be differentiated between class and mass public. A feeling that hooks us in tenderness is forever remembered.

‘Oopiri’ is a collective show of entire team from artists to technicians. They provided a film with humanity and idiosyncrasy. ‘Oopiri’ is simple, smart and a winning one. This is honest depictions of beauty in real life with fictionally created characters. Exhausted watching the regular commercial masala entertainers, this product from Nag, Karthi and Vamsy oozed a fresh lease of life.

Commercially, ‘Oopiri’ had all the stuff to catch the pulse of class audience and how far it reaches to masses has to be wait and seen. Congratulating the entire PVP team for their out of box thinking, Cinejosh rates ‘Oopiri’ with 3.25 stars.

Oopiri Cinejosh Verdict: Honestly Beautiful Film!

                                                    Oopiri Cinejosh Rating: 3.25/5.0

సమీక్ష : ఊపిరి – తెలుగు సినిమాకు కొత్త ‘ఊపిరి’!

Oopiri review

'Oopiri' review: It is a tragicomedy with a spoonful of Hyderabadi dum biryani

'Oopiri' review: It is a tragicomedy with a spoonful of Hyderabadi dum biryani

Cast : Nagarjuna, Karthi, Tamannaah, Prakash Raj, Ali, Jayasudha, Gabriella Demetriades, Anushka, Shriya Saran, Adivi Sesh.

Director : Vamshi Paidipally.

Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, and Kamal Haasan are some of the A-list stars in Telugu cinema who are not hell-bent on wooing the most attractive woman they spot on the streets or coffee shops on-screen now. After doing that for several decades, they have started accepting roles based on the honesty of the script, and their sense of relatability toward other things that make the movie they are going to be a part of.

Nagarjuna has his thinking hat on for a while now. ‘Manam’, ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’, and now ‘Oopiri’, are the by-products of his intelligence. Vikramaditya (Nagarjuna) and Sreenu (Karthi) are half-lives. They are waiting on the edge of their scarred hearts. They need each other to pour their weights into troughs of emotional fulfillment. ‘Oopiri’ happens when a quadriplegic billionaire loses hope and a good-for-nothing youth starts looking for the purpose of life.

Karthi acts as the hands and legs of Nagarjuna. Nag doesn’t want a caretaker; he wants a friend, who he can count on, in the middle of the night. In the original French film, ‘The Intouchables’, the caretaker offers cigarettes, but in this Telugu adaptation, there are no cigarettes. Nag stays away from alcohol, too. Still, the makers have let an item song into the ‘Oopiri’ party. Just when my smile started to come down from my lips to my heart, the item number pulled it back. These are the marks of localizing the content.

Tamannaah is the lady Karthi has set his eyes on. Nag gives a couple of tips to encourage the slightly loud-mouthed youth and it eventually works well like a fairy tale. Though, Karthi and Tamannaah get a dance number to show that they are the couple of the film (included to cash in on the success of the on-screen pair, as well), Nag and Karthi are the true pair of ‘Oopiri’. From the bottom to the top, Vamshi Paidipally has treated ‘Oopiri’ like a buddy film. The ladies of the house, Tamannaah, Jayasudha, Kalpana, Anushka, Shriya Saran, Gabriella Demetriades, (along with the supporting men, Prakash Raj and Ali), make a sizable contribution to the overall scheme of execution, nevertheless, the characters played by the two leading male stars are the ones that you find in the night sky.

oopiri telugu movie review

Karthi is as clueless as a speechless bird when Nag decides to buy a painting that has nothing on it but screaming red spots. Encouraged by the buyers’ stupidity, he goes ahead and creates a masterpiece of his own. Of course, he is not stingy with colors. So, there are more colors and strokes in his painting. Similarly, when he visits the Eiffel Tower, he’s not awestruck by the magnificence of the architecture; it’s just another cell tower for him. On the other hand, Nag is unhappy about not being able to get a glimpse of the topmost part of the Tower because of his disability. That’s the difference between their styles of living.

When an impromptu car race pops up, a scroll runs at the bottom of the screen saying speeding is dangerous. We already have them for smoking, drinking, and usage of CG. What’s next? Wear seatbelts while driving / get an Aadhaar card? It’s annoying to watch such text messages as they add zero value to the films and they also rob the thrill of experiencing the creators’ imagination.

We’re all a little broken on the inside. What keeps us moving is a piece of Sreenu’s mantra of enjoying to the fullest without having boundaries, and a piece of Vikram’s mantra of accepting the past and learning to take the first step in the right direction.

‘Oopiri’ is definitely Vamshi’s best, so far. Karthi’s walk of fame in Telugu cinema has just begun, and if Nagarjuna’s upcoming projects are as exciting as his recent releases, he’s a double scoop winner.

Film: Oopiri Cast: Nagarjuna, Karthi, Tamannah, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Kalpana, Harshavardhan, Ali, Adivi Sesh, Anushka Shetty, Shriya and others Story based on: ‘ The Intouchables’ by Olivier Nakache, Eric Toledano Dialogues: Abburi Ravi Screenplay: Hari Music: Gopi Sundar Lyrics: Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry, Rama Jogaiah Sastry Director of Photography: P S Vinod Edited by: Madhu Presented by: Pearl V Potluri Banner: PVP Cinema Produced by: Param V Potluri, Kavin Anne Directed by: Vamshi Paidipally Release date: March 25, 2016 CBFC Rating: U Runtime: 2 hr 32 min

What’s it about!

A billionaire Vikram Aditya (Nagarjuna) runs a business empire although he is quadriplegic. Leading life on a wheelchair, he wants to have a caregiver who can be trustworthy and energetic. After interviewing many, with the help of his secretary (Tamannah) he picks up a guy with mass attitude Sreenu (Karthi) for this job. Sreenu moves in to Vikram Aditya’s residence. With his good nature, jest for life and adventure, Sreenu changes the life of Vikram Aditya and becomes this billionaire’s mate.  Along the journey some turns, some back stories are also revealed.

Based on French film ‘The Intouchables’ (2011), ‘Oopiri’ tells the story of two persons belonging to two different strata’s of society coming to know the real essence of life and celebrating it. While the original movie is focused on the relationship between an aristocratic Parisian and a black immigrant, the story of ‘Oopiri’ centers on a rich Telugu guy and an awara kind of guy from Hyderabad.

The story and the screenplay is changed slightly by director Vamshi Paidipally and writers team to suit the tastes of the Telugu audiences but the main plot and spirit has remained the same.

The beauty of the story lies in the situations that develop camaraderie between the two individuals who have nothing in common. Plenty of humour is created between them. The film grows on as the story progresses. In the penultimate stages of the movie, you really get great feeling about life, friendship and love.

Many scenes stand out in the film…

1. The scene where Karthi’s sister finds the real side of him when Tanikella  Bharani comes to their home

2. The painting sequence is hilarious and intelligent

3. Nagarjuna meeting the special person in his life in Paris in the second half

4. The climax moments

As wine becomes tastier with the age, Nagarjuna is becoming the best as an  actor as the years passing. In ‘Manam’, we had seen the mature performance of  Nagarjuna. Two years later we are seeing him in this beautiful act as a quadriplegic. A star like Nagarjuna accepting this role itself is a sign of matured  thinking. Moving only face, Nagarjuna communicates varied emotions. A tough job indeed, but he has pulled it off so well.

The movie is about Nag and Karthi. And Karthi scores in a major way. He is the strength to this emotional ride. Karthi in his first straight Telugu film gives his best in this role which has required him to show the variation of a guy with low class nature in the beginning of the story and high maturity as the story progresses. He is exceptional in emotional sequences. He has also got his Telugu right.

Tamannah is beautiful and she is good. Prakash Raj, Kalpana and Jayasudha the seasoned actors have excelled. Prakash Raj appears for a brief time but he has once again shown what a matured actor he is. Anushka, Gabriella Demetriades and Adivi Sesh appear in brief credible roles.

The movie is drenched with rich frames. Cinematographer P S Vinod capturing the nature in all its beauty, he lends to the mood of the movie when Nagarjuna is discovering life other than the suffocating environs of his palace. The movie was shot in Paris and Belgrade in rich manner (high production values by PVP Cinema). Gopi Sundar’s music is soothing and carries the mood. “Okate Life..” song is beautiful. A crispier editing would have been better, some unnecessary moments are there.

The film has some beautiful lines written by Abburi Ravi and Hari. Director Vamsi Paidipally has grown as director with this movie. Known for directing action dramas with big heroes, he has shown his command over sentiment scenes and humor. Not only bringing out the best performances, and  maintaining the film’s story on right balance between comedy and sentiments, he has done the best. As a director, he has strengthened his position. This is his best work to date.

Bottom-line!

‘ Oopiri ’ is heart-warming drama with many soothing and highly emotional moments. Aided by class performance from the lead actors and rich visuals, the movie entertains till the end. Based on highly appreciated French film ‘The Intocuhables’, the film is an uplifting dramedy. Best adaptation of the French movie . Go for it.

Live Love Laugh

The trailers showcased Oopiri as a celebration of life and indeed, the film as a whole stands up to all its hype and hysteria. Nagarjunas life changing performance and Karthis liveliness create magic on screen and make things work big time. Though one feels that the film is majorly catered to class audience, it has the capacity to even impress the front benchers because of its universal emotions. Very rarely does one come across such a meaningful film in Telugu which holds your attention with its beautiful narration. Finally, if you ignore the slow pace of the film during the second half, Oopiri is one film which stands apart and cannot be missed. (more)

“Oopiri”: A Beautiful Adaptation of a Beautiful film

The much-awaited official Telugu remake of the box-office blockbuster French film “Intouchables” comes with a breath of fresh air and a rollercoaster of emotions. While the original film collected over $250 million with over 40 million ticket views, there was a gap of almost four years since the original swept the top honors in 2012. Thanks to the PVP and a wonderful starcast blessed by stars Nagarjuna and Karthi, Tollywood has got a heartwarming movie that blends the right mix of nativity with unique content that evokes universal emotions.

The story is unusual but relatable. A billionaire Vikram (Nagarjuna) falls off a para gliding trip and becomes a vegetable consigned to a wheel chair, limbless and lifeless. He needs a male attendant who can tend to his care. The advertisement lures a vagabond called Sreenu (Karthi) who is out on parole. A bond develops between Sreenu and Vikramaditya as the rustic, no-holds barred Sreenu treats Vikram with rules that think outside the medical box of conventional bounds that imprison the billionaire all these years in a lifeless way. Tamannah who plays Nag’s secretary balances both the male protagonists with a striking role. There are no villains in the film just a pure interplay of human emotions entrapped in the worlds inhabited by both the characters Nag and Karthi that drives a mesmerising story forward.

For the Telugu audiences, the content is sure to strike gold at the box office because of the unique story of male bonding without the awkwardness of any sexual preferences and the poetic justice to the many aspects of the unfinished business in each of the hero’s lives. Director Vamshi Paidipally who last made “Yevadu” deserves alround praise for not only making a wonderful film that carries the essence of the original French film intact but also embellishing it with superb nativities that resonate with the Telugu mass and class audiences alike. In 158 minutes, the director recreates a magical world that makes you laugh and cry with sensibilities that surprise you. In many ways, as the director said in pre-release, he has discovered himself new and that shows in most scenes. Unlike his earlier films, there is no dosage of violence and no deviant comedy track and no over-dosage of melodrama and contrived family drama just the strain of the story fleshed out with lot of care and restraint. Only, the second half has a few lags that slow down the tempo of the film cruising at three nautical miles per hour. The scenes that show Nagarjuna’s obsession with romance are a bit overdone leading to repetition of his old heroines like Anushka and Shriya and an unnecessary French Diva which lengthen the film.

Performances-wise, Karthi is the real hero of the film and dances on screen with agile acting and animated performance. He plays a role that suits his persona and literally carries the film on his shoulders. Whether egging on Nagarjuna to go after his emotions or serenading Tamannah or completing with his dysfunctional family, Karthi gives a flawless performance. The title credits also show “Introducing Karthi” aptly because this is his first official Telugu film, and if you forget his last box-office hit in Telugu from dubbed version (“Awara”), this is the film that will revive his career at the box-office again. Nagarjuna is regal and mature in his role as a chair-consigned patient, he is the soul of the film and tugs at the hearts of millions of people who have elders at home who demand that extra care. He conveyed the mind of such geriatrics effortlessly as he straddles one emotion after another without moving his limbs or standing up once – that alone must be a stand-out performance for a hero who rarely took such a challenge early. He looks aged without much makeup and pulled a role with dignity that will give hope to many patients who live lives of quiet desperation and loneliness. Some of his lines and those of Karthi are what keep ringing in your ears long after you walk out of the hall – “Where there is love, there is fear and vice-versa”, “We must seek what we lost wherever we last lost it”, “The mind doesn’t travel to every place that man travels to”. The lines written by Abburi Ravi have a Proustian touch to it (“Don’t travel to new places, see with new eyes always”). Tamannah in her performance is refreshingly different than what we saw of her in many of her recent movies where it became routine to see her as a lissome heroine. Dubbed in her own voice, she gives a glamor touch to a male-dominated story with a mature corporate look. Prakash Raj and Jaya Sudha perform their roles with a mechanical touch, no surprise from them.

Scene-wise, some of the best scenes happen indoors when the characters mature in their interaction with each other. But the highlight of the film is the Paris trip which the three main characters take to. The director and the cinematographer capture the essence of Paris City in remarkable detail and depth – nobody would have shown the Eiffel Tower in such a canvass before and that car chase scene is a paisa vasool action sequence that you don’t see even in mainstream action films. There are atleast six scenes in the film where your eyes turn misty and give you goosebumps. Comedy scenes are embedded with the story and the characterisation, it is restricted to the “painting” joke that repeats throughout the film between Karthi and Prakash Raj. Needless, of course are the item song and the series of romantic tracks between Nagarjuna and the women in his love life – it is a necessary aberration that must have got insisted by the King of romance films of our time but bearable. But for it, the length would have admeasured the original French film and looked taut enough. Music by Gopi Sundar is good in the songs but fails to jazz up the BGM. For the original French film, famous music composer E.Ludovico rhapsodised the moods of the film brilliantly. Gopi Sundar made efforts to localise his music but there is not a strain of one melody that stands out in the BGM score. Songs, on the other hand, are well-composed and picturised by director Vamshi.

To sum up, “Oopiri” is worth the wait and delivers on entertainment in a uniquely native style rendered by the director with honesty and clean narrative. The last  Nagarjuna film released in 2016 grossed up above Rs.45 crores already. If this film with its positive content and resonating theme generates bigger buzz during this long weekend, it can cross that tally easily. For the Telugu audience it is going to be a well-sought film because a story of this magnitude in male bonding hasn’t hit the screens for a long, long time. It may be NTR Jr’s miss that the meatiest role in the film went to Karthi’s credit and he made most capital out of it. It now remains to be seen whether producer PVP makes money on his capital – which doesn’t look difficult considering the film is mostly short in Annapurna Studios. More power to Tollywood and congratulations to the makers for choosing films that are one up on substance than style.

Oopiri Reviews

Suresh Kavirayani

Despite its climax which drags a bit, Oopiri is a touching film, adapted well by Vamshi and ably supported by the cast. It marks another hit for Nag, who has shown the way in experimenting with his roles.

Reviewer Profile

From ensuring the soul is intact to successfully recreating a story for a completely different set of audiences, Oopiri sets a benchmark for adaptations in Telugu cinema and paves the way for more exciting genres. Director Vamshi Paidipally makes a difficult task seem easier than reading out ABC! And, he does that by bringing together two leading mainstream actors from different film industries. Can it get any better?

With the right cast and the perfect team, Vamsi has pulled off a decent drama, which retains the soul of the original.

Bollywood Life

Do not miss this film for anything in the world. It will make you laugh, make you self reflect and it will inspire you like nothing has ever done before. And watch this film with your best buddies and family for the best experience!

It has been a while since the audience in Prasads clapped after a movie. Today, once the morning show ended, the clapping started slowly, but it increased in intensity and took a while to stop. Go book your tickets for Oopiri - this one's a must watch.

It’s no mean feat to make a mainstream Telugu film where the hero sits on a wheelchair. But the next time an unconventional film is made, let’s hope the item number can be done away with.

Oopiri has a fine direction, good performancesand some well executed sequences too. But with nothing new to revealor surprise in its content for me its content, for me it just remainsa good one time watch and not anything more than that as beingprojected.

Venkateswara Rao

Oopiri is all about moments and emotions. It cannot be seen as a simple film based on two people. There is so much depth into it and there is life in it. This is one of those films that cannot be missed at any cost. It is an experience that needs to be cherished by every film lover. Leave everything and just book your ticket now. Highly recommended.

Oopiri surely remains as the best film in Nagarjuna’s career after Geetanjali. Nagarjuna has made a hat-trick with Oopiri after the success of Manam and Soggade Chinni Nayana. Karthi, who made a straight Telugu film for the first time recorded success with this film. Overall, the film Oopiri gives a cool breath for the audience in this summer season.

Must watch soothing emotional light-hearted family entertainer. Long weekend should allow everyone to hit theaters. Might stand a good competition to Sardaar Gabbar Singh if both films released at the same time. Don't encourage piracy, watch in theaters.

In one word, Vamsi Paidipally’s Oopiri is an out and out emotional and fun entertainer that can satisfy all stages of audiences. Nagarjuna and Karthi’s pair stood as the biggest asset for this film. Even though, there are many emotional elements in this film, the maker has perfectly balanced the story by adding comedy and romance in it.

‘Oopiri’ is heart-warming drama with many soothing and highly emotional moments. Aided by class performance from the lead actors and rich visuals, the movie entertains till the end. Based on highly appreciated French film ‘The Intocuhables’, the film is an uplifting dramedy. Best adaptation of the French movie . Go for it.

i enjoyed karthi's action in this movie ,nag done his job

Midhun Ben Thomas (Dilseben)

On this auspicious Sunday, I would like to wish all my friends & well wishers a peaceful & joyful Easter. It's been a while since I had watched a Tamil movie & when I happened to see the trailer of "Thozha" which is actually a bilingual with the Telugu flick titled "Oopiri", it kinda enticed me to check it out. Actually the primary reason for that being the combination of Nagarjuna & Karthi which seemed to ooze oodles of bromance. So was it as good as the tempting trailer??? Sreenu (Karthi) is a petty thief who was out on parole & on the look out for a suitable job which would earn him brownie points with the judiciary to earn an early release from prison. His search eventually leads him to the quadriplegic billionaire Vikram (Nagarjuna) who was seeking the assistance of a caretaker. Inspite of numerous qualified applicants, Vikram appointed Sreenu as the latter seemed to impart a positive vibe which lifted his spirits. As for Sreenu, he couldnt have hoped for a better job & though reluctant decided to take it up seeing the posh lifestyle that he could enjoy being there. In due time, both of them warm up to each other & as to how each one proves to be an inseparable part of each one's life forms the crux of the movie. Since I am not so well versed with Telugu movies, I would have to admit that I haven't watched much of Vamsi Paidipally's previous ventures except for "Yevadu" which was inspired from "Face off". To be frank, I had watched it since I am a huge fan of Allu Arjun (like many other Malayalis) & though it didn't quite blow me off I was kinda satisfied with what the film offered. His latest effort is an inspiration yet again as it is the official remake of the French movie "The Intouchables". Since I haven't watched the original, there is no point of reference which is good in a way as we inevitably tend to be biased towards the original. The biggest positive of the movie is undoubtedly the chemistry between Nagarjuna & Karthi which was brilliant to say the least. A special word of mention for the dialogues by Raja Murugan which was both hilarious & insightful. However, rather than being crisp Vamsi chose to touch on a myriad of issues including the sequence in Paris that was way too long & laborious making the audience look at their watches which doesnt augur well for Praveen's editing credentials. As for other aspects, Gopi Sundar's music was average while P S Vinod deserves praise for his visuals. Karthi was aptly casted as Sreenu since the character had to be mischievous & project a declasse attitude which comes quite naturally to him. Even Nagarjuna has given a praise worthy performance as the serene billionaire with a heart of gold though I felt he wasn't as effective when it came to displaying the vulnerability of a disabled person. As for the rest of the cast, Prakash Raj & Jayasudha was impressive while Vivek barely got noticed & Tamannah had more to do being an eye candy rather than perform. Even Kalpana was there in a small role which I believe was the last movie she had worked on before she breathed her last in Hyderabad. There were a host of cameos as well which included Anushka, Shriya etc which didnt provide them much scope for performance. Verdict: With an enviable star cast the film should have the initial hype working in its favour & with the story also being reasonably good, I would expect it to become a superhit or maybe even a blockbuster. It's surely a feel good movie with ample dosage of bromance. There is no doubt that the film would have been much better off if they have edited about half an hour, but inspite of that it's worth watching. In short, wont hurt to give it a try!!! Rating: 3/5 Regards...Ben

A human being expresses his feelings and emotions through entire body. Hands play an important role in conversations. Nagarjuna Akkineni has done the best work of his career with the character of Vikramaditya, a person whose body is paralyzed below his neck. He has to get all emotions expressed through his eyes, face and voice. The intensity in his voice during Paris race episode is an example of his acting. Being a frontline mainstream star of Telugu cinema, Nagarjuna has risked by doing this character and he will end up gaining more respect from Telugu movie lovers. Nagarjuna probably is the only star in Telugu cinema who doesn’t care about so-called image/trend/commercial-constraints to do films like these and change the course of Telugu cinema.

I was skeptical about casting of Karthi and thought that he was cast because PVP wanted a bilingual. Karthi proved me wrong with his terrific work. He epitomizes the Awara character with perfect body language. His dubbing in Telugu is also perfectly suited the role. The innocence in his looks and mass appeal in his demeanor is a lethal combination on screen. It worked perfectly well for the character of Seenu.

is excellent in the role of secretary and her dubbing is good. is aptly cast as mother and she is at her best. is nice as a well wisher of Nag and he creates good fun in Karthi combination scenes. has just two scenes and she is gorgeous. appears as an old flame of Nag. , and has justified their roles. South African model plays a Paris based cameo. sizzled in an item song.

This film is an official remake of French film ‘The Intouchables’. I have watched The Intouchables twice. Vamsi has adapted The Intouchables to Telugu nativity exceptionally well. He has brought in much required human drama with elaborate background stories for Nag and Karthi. 90% of the original was covered in the first half. It made me wonder how the director would take the story forward for the remaining half. The Paris episode where Nagarjuna rediscovers himself and the following episodes where Karthi connects with his family are beautifully written. Nowhere in the film, you will feel out of context though Vamsi has maintained the uber rich texture to his narration. Vamsi Paidipally has gone beyond the league of commercially successful directors and entered into an elite league where different content guarantees money.

Background music by is outstanding. Okka Life song is exceptionally good. Cinematography by PS Vinod is of international standards. The way he captured Paris and Nag’s residence is superb. Dialogues by are simple and effective. They are an asset to the movie. Production design is exceptionally good. Editing by is nice. Producer deserves a big round of applause for backing up such a risky project and delivering it with such a finesse.

Oopiri is a film that’s extremely difficult to execute in Telugu. The team of Vamsi Paidipally, Nagarjuna and PVP (key decision makers of this project) have trusted it and went on to make it with full conviction. Not even a single unrelated scene was shot to satisfy the so-called commercial movie lovers. This film is little lengthy and second half appears a bit slow. But, that doesn’t take away anything from the emotional journey we experience through the film. On a whole, Oopiri is a thoroughly enjoyable emotional ride. Go for it!!

Oopiri movie review: Beautiful, emotional journey

oopiri telugu movie review

Oopiri Cast: Nagarjuna, Karthi, Tamannaah, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Thanikella Bharani and Ali Director: Vamshi Paidipalli Rating: 4 stars

The much-awaited Nagarjuna-Karthi starrer Oopiri, that hit the screens on Friday, falls in the league of many path-breaking films that have come out of Tollywood recently. Director Vamshi Paidipalli deserves kudos for coming up with an emotion-soaked script. It’s not easy to adopt a French film — The Intouchables — and Indianise it, but Vamshi has done a thorough job.

Nagarjuna, who delivered two successful films in a row, justifies the huge curiosity surrounding the difficult role. Tamannaah plays the female lead and PVP is the producer of this Rs 60-crore film.

Vikramaditya (Nagarjuna) is a billionaire owner of multiple companies who has been rendered a paraplegic in an accident and confined to a wheelchair. He advertises for a caretaker, and together with secretary Keerthi (Tamannaah) selects Srinu (Karthi), a pickpocket who is out of jail on parole Srinu impresses Vikramaditya and Keerthi too. The film deals with the bond that develops between Vikramaditya and Srinu.

At its very core, the story is about the bond between a billionaire and a poor boy. Such stories are not new, but where Vamshi wins is in the narration. Vamsi handles the film in a very balanced manner, dwelling on the importance of friendship, love and the values life. He does not miss out on the humour and keeps the tempo going except for a few scenes in the second half.

Nagarjuna steals the show, followed by Karthi. Oopiri adds to the list of films like Manam and Soggade Chinni Nayane where Nagarjuna has come up with some great performances.

A major star accepting the role of a character confined to a wheelchair deserves appreciation, as does the manner in which he carries the film. On par with Nagarjuna, Karthi has done a wonderful job.

This is his first Telugu film, and is certainly a landmark in his career. He deserves applause for the way he portrays the character transforming from a carefree pickpocket to a matured person.

Tamannah perfectly fits the role too. The chemistry between her and Karthi is very visible, and the pair pulls off hilarious scenes. Prakash Raj does justice to his important character. Jayasudha, Ali and Thanikella Bharani make their presence felt, while Shriya, Anushka and Adivi Sesh appear in cameos.

Abburi Ravi has come up with emotional dialogues and good one-liners and the music by Gopi Sunder adds to the story. Cinematographer Vinod captures every scene beautifully.

Despite its climax which drags a bit, Oopiri is a touching film, adapted well by Vamshi and ably supported by the cast. It marks another hit for Nag, who has shown the way in experimenting with his roles.

The first half of the movie is narrated in a fun way while the second half has more drama. Given the storyline, the film could have been a sentimental tearjerker but it is not. Director Vamshi Paidipally has balanced that on rightly. The movie is filled with many emotional moments all the while keeping humor intact. This is the directors movie. And Karthis show all the way. Despite length, €œOopiri€ is one of the best made heart-touching movies in Tollywood. It is seeped with classiness.

Oopiri is one of the best movies of our times. It is not a film but an experience. We cannot describe the pleasure of watching it in words. It has to be felt as an audience. It is a terrific adaptation of the French classic The Intouchables by Vamshi Paidipally and his team. They were successful in recreating the magic of original and also in connecting with the sentiments of our audience.
