The Masters Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) Programme of Ignou consist of six core courses and two elective courses. In addition to main subjects which are theoretical, The student have to submit the Ignou MLIP 02 Project work which consist of 4 Credits full Course (100 marks). The aim of library science Project/Dissertation is to provide a chance to the learners to apply the knowledge they get while writing the project and to develop skills in the areas of various courses of this Programme.
Synopsis of the project should be ready in consultation with the supervisor or guide. The synopsis must consist all the objectives, review of literature, methodology and other aspects of the project. It must contain the detail of this justification, sampling, tools for use, constraints if any, and potential directions for additional research. The student need to write the project proposal in A4 dimensions paper typed in dual space together using that a permission letter of this Supervisor/Guide along with also the proforma for acceptance. A student can pick a manager of their own option. The qualification of a individual to become Supervisor/Guide is provided below.
The minimal qualifications Of the manager are as follows:
Ph.D in Library and Information Science.
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science with two years experience in a library or information centre and in a lecturers’ grade or its equivalent.
B.E./B.Tech. (Computer Science)/M.C.A. or equivalent with minimum of two years experience in a reputed library. Library, information centre and similar organisation.
A student have the right to choose the supervisor according to his decision for his Ignou mlip 02 project work. The proposal must attach the bio-data of supervisor, Duly signed with him. If you have taken the supervisor from outside or external it will be accepted by the Faculty of Library and Information Science prior to the project is checked. A Supervisor cannot guide more then 5 students.
Learner should send the synopsis, must be written according to the Ignou project guidelines along with supervisor resume and his signature in the performa to the Programme Coordinator (MLIS), Faculty of Library and Information Science, School of Social Sciences, Academic Complex, Block-F, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi – 110068. If the synopsis will be incomplete then it will get rejected straight away. A written communication letter of acceptance / Non-approval of the synopsis will be sent to the learner.

The Project Report/ Dissertation will be checked by the Faculty or External supervisor, as essential. There’ll not be any viva for analysis of this project/ dissertation.
For successful conclusion of the Ignou MLIP 02 project work, a Student should secure at least 50 percent marks at the Project/Dissertation work.
